Springboks doing cheap shots? Never! If a French player slapped the head of an opponent while he was sitting defenseless on the ground, that would be a cheap shot. If an Australian player stomped on a defender after scoring a try or a Kiwi shoulder charged a player’s head while he was defenseless in a ruck, those would be cheap shots. But the side that perfected the squirrel grip in the 90s and had Bakkies Botha head butting people from behind, are wholly incapable of cheap shots.

To answer your question about the turnover penalty for SA. If you're the first person to the tackle breakdown after the tackle is completed and no ruck has yet been formed (2 people from each team over the ball), if you support your own weight (dont put knees on downed player or hands on floor passed the ball), you are allowed to go for the steal of the ball from the tackled player on the ground (who has to release it). That player (we call them the jackler) can only play the ball if he comes 'through the gate' basically from behind the back foot of the tackled player. The referee will shout 'release' or 'ruck formed' and when he does , you have to stop competing for the ball. If the player on the floor hasnt released the ball by this time, you will win a penalty for 'holding on'. Or you will simply steal possession and play will continue. Most the time, attacking players will hold on if they dont have the ruck support and concede the penalty rather than have a live turnover. At least your defence can set up properly from a penalty. You can also become the jackler if you make the tackle, release the player you tackled and then get on your feet and jackle over the ball. This is more difficult to do as you usually have a ruck formed by the time this happens. Pro teams have perfected hunting in 2's where 1 tackles and 2nd man is straight over the ball instantly looking to steal the ball before the ruck is formed. Its down to the attacking teams to also give support to the tackled player to clear these guys out instantly. 2-3 seconds of holding on is all the ref needs to see to give the penalty.
That makes perfect sense now. Thanks so much for the detailed response and insight to what happens Lewis! I really appreciate you 🙌🏽 That helps me understand the game and the rules so much better now! Thank you🙌🏽

You have to find “chasing the sun” somewhere and react to that. Its the 2019 springbok world cup build up and win… we were declining in the rankings and the country thought we would never be the best again, but along came coach Rassie Erasmus
6:57 One of the rules in Rugby is after a tackle you need to lift your arms up before you may contest for the ball again. This happens at 11:34. If you contest for the ball and the opponent holds on to the ball after a tackle your team gets awarded with a penalty. (People calls this holding) The hard part is that the person who contest needs to be on his feet and needs to support his own body weight.
Love your reaction videos mate! I am South African and play/coach rugby myself...and it is so refreshing to get this type of perspective / reaction. Looking forward to more videos! Cheers!

I coached various national teams in Germany, including the National Men's 15s and now the Women's 15s Team :) I was a winger (all back three positions) at professional level, but played 10,12,13 at club level. Outside of coaching the German National Women's Team now, I also coach my RSV Köln, a 1. BundesLiga rugby club in Cologne, Germany. @@QSNgg
At 11:35, I think the ref awarded what's known as a "penalty try". That happens when the defending team commits a blatant foul in order to stop the opposition from scoring an almost certain try.

I know there’s some full games on UA-cam of the rugby World Cup some CRAZY close matches you have to watch That number 11 you were asking about Kurt-Lee Arendse
@QSN, the problem with some of the clips is that they are not showing the whole story because they can't. So, what you see as a cheap shot is mainly a reaction to what happened prior. For instance in the first part of the video, when you saw DDA shoving Itoje's head? Itoje held DDA's leg and, for some strange reason, was not letting him go. DDA was reacting to what Itoje did!! So what you see in these clips are mostly reactions to an incident. I think what the editor is trying to prove is the comment you hear in the beginning. e.g "They can rough you up". This was said by Jason Robison in an interview with Rugby Pass, but he meant something completely different. He was alluding to the style of play, not provocation. And yes, there are yellow and red cards where there's foul play.
Thanks for the clarification and full picture on these plays. I knew I was missing the full picture on what provoked these actions. I appreciate you 🙌🏽
Yes no2 green was on his feet allowed to play ball tackled black player who did not release ball after being tackled and kept it close to his body not allowing green 2 to pick up the ball and effecting a TURNOVER hence black team penalised.
Once you're tackled you must release ball also the tackler must release tackled player the tackler must seperate from tackled player and be on his feet only then can he go for the ball. Check some plays were tackler after tackling gets on feet puts both arms up in the air to signify to the referee that he can now play towards the ball as he has seperated from the player he tackled if the tackled player support does not get their quick enough the tackler after separating can pick up the ball and play. Conversely the tackled player after being tackled must leave the ball but he to can than get onto his feet and lift his arm signifying to the ref that he can than pick up the ball and play.

On 4:22; yes absolutely that is a red card. Number 11 is Aranse (my spelling is probably wrong) Aran-SIR. Hitting the All Black at the back of the ruck wasn’t necessarily cheap, he was offside though. 11:44 he forced the turn over, you’re correct. Springboks are horrible, but they’re so good. Powerful and fast. Great video as always.
11:33 Marx legally contested the ball by Standing his ground, staying on feet forcing the player on the ground to hold the ball. Ball must be released after tackle, results penalty for South Africa
As a South African most of us agree that New Zealand ( All Blacks) are the beT team in the world... always has been so ...what most rugby fans call the greatest sports rivalry of all time is between the Springboks and All Blacks going back more than 100 years. Every teams aim to beat the All Blacks. Love the All Blacks but patriotic to my country South Africa... Props to the coaches of the Springboks...they don't select the best players on paper... They look for more which coaches explain and how much the player is prepared to fight for his country to win...
I hate reaction videos where people just react but does not add anything from their personal experience and knowledge. You do add that and that's why I have started watching your videos. Cool too see new rugby and Springbok fans around the world.
In South Africa, rugby is not a matter of life or death, it’s waayyy more important than that. Winning a second World Cup in a row, the president declared a public holiday, called Springbok day. Back in 1995 President Nelson Mandela danced in full rugby gear in the middle of the rugby pitch to the sound of We are the champions OF THE WORLD.
New Zealand is historically the best rugby team in the world, they also play the most exciting rugby. They have won three world cups. South Africa is historically the second best team in the world, however they have won four world cups.
The New Zealand All Blacks team is the most feared team in the rugby playing world. No other team even vaguely approaches the All Blacks games won vs played ratio.
There are cheap shots in every game, it's just a matter of not getting caught. The worst offenders are indeed the Springboks, New Zealand, England (Not in any particular order) and DEFINITELY Argentina and Samoa. The Georgians are an honourable mention, who are a 2nd tier Rugby nation. Any first tier team will beat them, but you will feel it the next day, those guys are hard as nails and known to get dirty. Tomás Lavanini from Argentina is by far the worst repeat offender atm, wouldn't be surprised if he gets carded every 2 or 3 games, but a great character of the game and its Rugby after all.
That makes a lot of sense for sure. I know there is a lot of gamesmanship that happens and enforcing your will on an opponent is part of that for sure. I love to see it!
Love your content . Keep it up. At the end when you were wondering what happened. It was very short so I couldn’t see properly but I think it was either playing the ball on the ground or hands in the ruck which is not allowed . I stand to be corrected but yeah😂 Sending support from South Africa. Much love bro
Number 2 won a penalty because he was competing for the ball, however the man on the ground was not releasing the ball. Number 2 Malcolm Marx - probably one of the best hookers te ever exist. He steals balls, wins penalties, scrums like a machine, beast on defence, and if thats not enough he runs well, offloads tye ball well and scores a lot of tries. 11/14 new generation wings are Kurt-lee Arendse and Canan Moodie The older gen wings are Cheslin Colby and Makazolo Mapimpi All 4 played at the 2023 world cup. Also number 7 Pieter Steph Du Toit is a beast check him out. (Also he got a red card for that clean out - but it wasn't a cheap shot, he was off balance and got pushed by a team mate from behind, this stumbling head first into contact)
When U are in the stands and U hear a tackle coming in that reverberates through the stadium cauldron like a gun shot.. Then U know U’ve been initiated into rugby at the top level.. Most teams has 1 or 2 individuals that can have that kind of impact and in the past there were guys like Brian Lima from Samoa, Sebastian Chabal from France, that could make you cringe at the other end of the pavilion when you hear them collide with someone.. They called Lima “the chiropractor” Then came Willem Alberts from South Africa and when he collided it no longer sounded like a Lima .45 revolver but rather like a 300 Rem Mag pulled next to your ear whenever he collided.. Fans dubbed him the “bone surgeon”.. The reason why Die Hard rugby called this the most “feared” team is because 40% of those players managed to pull of contact where the sound of it gives a full grown man a nugget feeling between the loins for the sheer impact and sound in the stadium when they get into it.. Most teams has got 1 or 2 guys that can do it The Boks has got 7 on the field at any time and then they bring 5 more from the bench.. then U have PSTD that looks like a soft cry baby and he is the hardest and most contradictory relentless bastard of them all.. It’s of no use to sit in front of your PC screen thinking these guys give out cheap shots.. U need to get in the stands of the cauldron and listen to it live.. Brodie Retallick from the AB’s will make your socks curl and guys like Collin Meads from the AB’s in the past or even the recently retired Bakkies Botha will make U’r skin ripple and your heart boil in the stands when U hear the contact.. Go and watch a game live between the AB’s and the Bokke and then come back and re visit this video..
I love your in-depth analysis and you're 100% right! Definitely watching behind the PC does no justice to the beauty and atmosphere of the game. I'll definitely have to see a game live

@@QSNgg Springboks vs ABs test matches are intense as they’re evenly matched but play different styles of rugby. Springboks are in your face, physically abrasive, and love the contact. Number 2 forced a turnover there, the New Zealander was supposed to release the ball but he couldn't because Malcolm Marx was on his feet over him, and if he released it Marx would just take it. Since he held on the penalty was given to the Springboks.
when you are tackled you are allowed to roll over the ball so that your team can get it, but you may not hold onto it or resist any standing opponent from grabbing it. tackling fouls are complicated, and ZA are excellent at pressurising teams into them.
I don't think it was a turnover never watched the match but Marx put his hand out for support midway through the jackel. It looked more like a penalty for not releasing the ball as the New Zealand player was lying on it.
@@keaganbanks9063He did manage to lift the ball off the ground hence the turnover penalty.. you are correct about him supporting his weight midway through although not all refs penalise that way so sometimes players get away with it

I'll definitely check out Eban. Thanks for the recommendation
When you said it was cheap shit in the beginning it was a reaction to the guy choking him with a knee on the neck...
That makes sense! Thanks for clarifying and letting me know the details of what happened. I love knowing the context of the situation

I really appreciate you 🙌🏽
That helps me understand the game and the rules so much better now! Thank you🙌🏽
Whoohooo hell yeah! Been hoping you would react to this video, the talent in South Africa is insane. And we have so much pride and love for our team. As you noted, they have excellent teamwork and chemistry

That makes perfect sense now. Thanks so much for letting me know!

Much love Melvin! I really appreciate you watching my video and your kind words. It means a lot 🙌🏽
I love that you played and coach Rugby! What position did you play and how long have you been coaching?
I played professionally for the Lions in South Africa during 2000-2004. I moved to Germany in 2011 and played here but mainly started my coaching career. I coached various national teams in Germany, including the National Men's 15s and now the Women's 15s Team :)
I was a winger (all back three positions) at professional level, but played 10,12,13 at club level.

That makes a lot of sense. Thanks so much for letting me know the rules and what was going on there

I love the culture and support of SA rugby! I can sense it really brings your nation together. I love that! I have all the love for SA 🙌🏽
New Zealand is historically the best rugby team in the world, they also play the most exciting rugby. They have won three world cups. South Africa is historically the second best team in the world, however they have won four world cups.
You kant say historically and then cite the fact that SA have more titles but are worse... No logic. Respect to second best kiwis tho...

The New Zealand All Blacks team
is the most feared team in
the rugby playing world.

11/14 new generation wings are Kurt-lee Arendse and Canan Moodie

Also number 7 Pieter Steph Du Toit is a beast check him out. (Also he got a red card for that clean out - but it wasn't a cheap shot, he was off balance and got pushed by a team mate from behind, this stumbling head first into contact)
That makes perfect sense now. Thanks for letting me know that Armand 🙌🏽
They called Lima “the chiropractor”
Then came Willem Alberts from South Africa and when he collided it no longer sounded like a Lima .45 revolver but rather like a 300 Rem Mag pulled next to your ear whenever he collided..
Most teams has got 1 or 2 guys that can do it
The Boks has got 7 on the field at any time and then they bring 5 more from the bench..
then U have PSTD that looks like a soft cry baby and he is the hardest and most contradictory relentless bastard of them all..

Great reaction vid!! Well done! The turn-over at 11:33 is by Malcolm Marx who legally 'stole' their ball as he was on his feet at the break-down.
Thanks so much Galaxy! I really appreciate you. Thanks for letting me know about the turnover as well. I was wondering what happened
I don't think it was a turnover never watched the match but Marx put his hand out for support midway through the jackel. It looked more like a penalty for not releasing the ball as the New Zealand player was lying on it.
@@keaganbanks9063He did manage to lift the ball off the ground hence the turnover penalty.. you are correct about him supporting his weight midway through although not all refs penalise that way so sometimes players get away with it
@@keaganbanks9063 sorry bud. His hands were on the ball before he goes down to support himself. As soon as the ball carrier was isolated (since both his support players were off their feet) he could take the ball. So therefore he turned it over.
