My 30 something children indicate that this music still gives them nightmares. We used to listen to it when they were very young.
I'm looking forward to this...
I'm one of those 30-somethings that used to get creeped out by the original, but now I use it as a haunting lullaby which puts me at ease after a stressful day in the modern world!
Respect to Jeff for this; there's still a lot of love for this album and if this new version inspires and captures new fans - that's only a good thing.
So long as he doesn't go all 'Lucas' and release new versions every year - with the Martians crying ' NOOOOOOOOOO' at the end!!!
War of The Worlds, now with added 90's Rave Scene synthesiser sounds.
Yeah it still creeps me out, especially when it's after midnight and I'm getting tired.
I've been listening to the new album and quite enjoy it actually. As expected there are bits I loved, and parts where I thought the original was superior. Liam Neeson does a commendable job. Worth getting as a companion to the original.
I wonder also will new paintings be commissioned?
The most song I am most excited about hearing is Horsell Common and the Heat Ray really wondering how they are going to modernise that tune.
I will be getting it on both CD & vinyl
And vinyl? Is The Next Generation having a special edition with the vinyl then? If so tell me where I can get it.
I can't wait to hear the remake of 'Spartacus'.
Do you have a link to that?
Come on now people give it a chance. Ok Gary Barlow but he is a talented performer and he has a big pair of shoes to fill with Justins legendary role. But look as this as a new kind of album from the same franchise I for one am glad to see a new masterpiece from the legendary Jeff Wayne!
Is it just me or do the fighting machines seem more terrifying than ever with the new music?
Anybody knows if the New Generations (the tour musical of course) has any new CGI animations in it? That kind of animations that have never been seen before/have been leaked to media?
Have to say, pretty excited about the cast for the album. It's gonna be a new sound alright
Just checked out a small sound snippet of Gary Barlow singing 'Eve of the War'. It's surpisingly good and sounds very close to the Justin Haywood version. So close that I'm wondering why bother re-recording this classic album. . . Hmmm, oh yeah . . . money.
Time to bring the tour back Down Under again!
I've tried to be positive about this release but it sounds like a 1990s remix. I've still got the original.
We have more of a chance of Spartacus getting a re-release than that happening.
Quite a few opinions being voiced for a bunch of people who have heard a grand total of 30< seconds of the album itself.
They replaced Justin Hayward with Gary Barlow! WHAT THE FUCK!
Love the original and I'm so excited about the new version. Liam Neeson is perfect for the Journalist role. Can't wait till TWOTW fans can experience it in the US!
wow. it sounds more upbeat than the original!
YES, PLEASE!!!!! :)))))
Now you mention it, that's a bloody good point; they've been doing remixes for years, so why should it be a scandal now? hehe
Sounds ok so far but I'm still to be convinced. Most of the cast does not fill me with confidence but let's be fair and give it a chance...Sometimes we can be surprised.
Yeah they really should not take it too serious :/ Just a remix and I think pretty good one to my mind :D
That would be nice though I would love to see a re realsesd spartacus but you would need Anthony Hopkins back dunno about Zeta Jones though.
the drums and the bassline actually sound pretty awesome, you should give it a chance... the disco drums weren't even cool or fitting to the theme back then
JOAQIN OÑATE
Wow, people are really acting like this is replacing the original forever... It's a spinoff, for goodness' sake. An alternative, not a replacement.
me likey very much
Not sure about this. Liam Neeson is probably a good choice for the narrator. Gary Barlow though? ugh
Hm... Not all that bad.. Kinda like it, actualy. Though, the original will always be better. Can't wait to hear the new album! :D
That's what worries me.
Not sure, Gary Barlow not cool enough! Huge fan of the original.
Relax the first album taught us how to defend ourselves from Martians! These guys will be a push over.
Exactly not like the original is going out of print ha.
I have to say if the WOTW remake has these tired and dated 90s dance synth sounds going on all the way through it then it's going to be a real let-down.
It is a good album, sure, just not as good as WOTW. While I agree it would be nice, I was simply stating that as a joke, just to get across how ridiculous it is for people to believe that this album is being made to replace the original WOTW album, when really it's a novelty spinoff by Jeff Wayne to see what it would be like done in today's styles.
No.
Heard a clip of Gary Barlow singing on the bbc website and i got to say i was not impressed with him there has to be better singers out there that could have done a better job, and the new version of the tune is not as good as the original. The only good thing so far is Liam Neeson doing the voice of the narrator.
To be honest,, after 30 seconds I can say the original is far better. Leave it alone
I have a very bad feeling about this. Sounds like pishy dance music
Joss Stone? Lots of tune dodging then. Oh dear.
No where near as good as the original. What a shame it had to be updated with this godawful techno crap to suit the new generation. Thank god I had the fortune to see it on stage and buy a DVD of the 'live' show before it got updated! You should NOT mess with perfection!
Jeff Wayne should be ashamed! But then he's going to make a fortune out of these young people, and that's all that matters today...not talent! He's sold out like most composers today!
I totally disagree. The new gen definitely is good. There's more content in it and the music is very good. In my opinion the "the earth under the martians" was pulled off better in the new gen then in the original. So what if it's different? Difference is good I would rather have a different narrator than have the same one as I would like it to be different but still keeping the core of it. because now we have two different versions to listen to :).
CGI Still looks like shit haha
