Really interested in these plates as I just came across them and love the multi curve...it seems it’s a pretty aggressive curve at the bottom and in some pictures appears to really bulge out in the middle at the bottom. Is it too much to where it would be annoying and cause a large gap on your back and or be annoying on the front with magazines pressing against it?

There is but I haven't seen a single american armor manufacturer do this...which gives me a VERY sneaking suspicion since they actually do bother to use this method on ceramic plates, but never steel, seems intentional. The nylon wrap around ceramic also needs to be applied to the steel with the coating already on it, this will keep that coating on it and will only maybe loose small bits of the coat now and then. Only country I know that uses this method on steel is South-Africa, but rubber foam instead of the plain rubber coating
Absolutely no problem with M855, so much so you cannot make that round go fast enough to get through. V50 was never reached as it is faster than 3500 fps. Don’t believe me, buy a set and shoot it all day long!
After watching this video I would feel comfortable with wearing CA body armour for ballistic protection. I don't have a problem with the anti-spall shield separation because after the armour stopped a round (or rounds) it would immediately be replaced with a new one.
As with any steel it's heavy and I think this is an 8lb plate. I've never had a multi curved plate however so does it carry different and/or more comfortable than a standard single curve...just curious?
When I'll body armor companies realize that spawling is bad and make a layer of kevlar in the anti spawling coat as a way to maximize the protection because as we all know now, spawling will get you faster than a bullet in metal plates if you take multiple rounds
But if you are taking that many rounds, the round that hit you some where not covered by the plate is going to be a bigger problem than spalling after more than one round.
Or just get a ceramic plate and your whole plate carrier set up with 2 plates and 3 ar15 mags weighs less than one of these plates by it self. They can be found for the same price as this plate.
FYI, ceramic plates exhibit fragmentation on the very first impact. They would fail the cardboard box test first shot. We sell those too if you’re so inclined.

Here's a test to try to replicate. How much damage would the human body suffer if a person was wearing the Caliber body armor you just used and the body armor was hit by 8 or 10 5.56×45mm NATO rounds or 8 or 10 7.62×39mm rounds? Even if the body armor catches all the rounds what damage would the shock wave from the impact of the bullets on the armor do to the human body? Would damage to the human body kill the person? Can you add more padding to the plate carrier to protect the person from the shock wave of the bullets" impact?
Wouldnt be too difficult to install an impact sensor. Some basics math that I cant give you and bring Bangor consult a trauma doctor and you have your answer
Jack Brown none. The most dangerous part is the spawling. Now perhaps shotgun slugs may be a different story.. but the transferable, internalized concussive force against AR500 and AR550 armor on the human body using intermediate rounds, even in the same spot wont transfer shockwaves into the body. “Maybe” if it was directly on the heart.. but you’f have to literally get hit in that same spot over and over and over for it to cause internal damage or get hit with a big ass slug or round such as 308 or 3006 . Id assume large calibers would be another story.. but your question of multiple intermediate rounds was the focus. That being said, after 1-3 shots, armor wearing people will get off the X and scoot elsewhere. So a continuous string of hits doesn’t really make sense.
All NIJ rated armors have to pass a maximum back face deformation & trauma protection. With a NIJ level 4 plate you can get shot by multiple 30.06 M2AP rounds(from a certain velocity, & distance) without killing you from blunt force trauma/shock.

Bilal doha M855 cannot be made fast enough to penetrate that plate. The V50 is only listed as > 3550 as the projectile couldn’t be made to go any faster. The plate has also been tested with 7.62 x 39 API-BZ. I have not had the opportunity to try any of the 5.45 x 39 variants.
I'd be willing to bet the .30-06 has put holes in more enemy soldiers, from WWI to present than any other caliber round. ...probably more than twice all others combined.
I'm sorry, the statement near the end where you say AR500 would have been cooked through, I'm calling BS on... I have a sh!tload of AR500 steel that I've got hundreds of rounds of 223/556 193 on at close range and I do t have any holes in. I've hit it with both 30-06, 6.5CM, and 12ga shot, 00 buck, and slugs at 25, 50, 100 yards from with nothing more than a few dimples, that's 3/8" and 5/16" AR500.
Ah, let's play a game. What is the thickness of the steel plate in this video? Because its 550, we can get a plate at that thickness that will rate at NIJ Lvl III. What does that mean for the weight of the plates?
Ok, I found this video after looking at Caliber's web site (no mailing list either?) I think you where confused speaking about the ar500 & ar550 that most stayed away because its to brittle , you surely most have meant ar650. To me and what I saw in the video this Caliber armor "Failed" not because of the metal but rather the poor or lack of a bond of the anti-spawl resin to metal plate , as you can see every time the entire anti-spawl layer pealed off as a whole and not just the effected area, this could also be caused by the preparation of metal prior to applying the resin anti-spawl IMHO. I did find the extra curvature interesting (I assume it mite be more comfortable then other brands) particularly if someone isn't running side plates but that swimmers cut plus the curves you'd have to find or have made a custom plate carrier. If the Manufacturer Caliber Armor could fix this anti-spawl bonding issue it mite be worth looking at again. While this video shows you put allot of rounds downrange , I have to agree with the other posters comments that this test was of smaller caliber and short slow barrels. Yes, there are a lot of pistols & 223/556, 762/308 around BUT there are lots of very common real guns out there also of larger caliber (including your "fudd" 30-06 and others). This video was defiantly meant to favor the manufacturer for demo video but a better advertisement is a manufacturer willing to show their plates being hit by larger then rated ammo to show the failing points , back deformation, edge failures, an anti spawl control , as a buyer that is something I always look for since I want to know how far I can push the rig when needed. Don't get me wrong I appreciate anyone willing to test products and share those videos for public to view, so thank you for posting the video and the manufacture Caliber armor for supplying you the plates to test.

@@thisisyourcaptin ,after Korea the military recognized how effective the -06 was against Chinese soldiers (like German and Italian before) but wanted a round that worked in a shorter action and wanted the general soldier to carry more rounds into combat b/c of changing battlefield techniques. The .308 (7.62x51) was born. The two are basicly brothers. Then going into Vietnam the 5.56 became the darling of the pentagon. But, the 7.62 family still sees action around the world. Why do youtubers say spalling when they mean deflection??? Spalling is when the back of the target becomes frag. Like when you blow a small hole in concrete but the backside blows out in a cone shape. That's spalling.
Look up the definition of the word spall. It means to break up into smaller pieces. When a round is defeated by Steel it shatters and blasts out in a cone. The coatings are also usually called antispall by the manufacturer
@@VSO_Gun_Channel it's different when you're talking about projectiles. I first learned about spalling in EOD. Here's an example: "HESH is High Explosive Squash Head. Does Wombat get Hangry when you trick him into thinking you are doing a food taste test video? Armor Plates? Really? Not food on plates? Dammit!
I’d still go for metal based armor , less hurt
Fud calibers lmfao 😂 so true
M 1 with ap a fud round ? ditch that century junk before it breaks one of many shitty welds and hurts someone get a nice cheap PTR be safe
308 30-06 same caliber
308 is basically "what's wrong with -06? FIXED"
The VSO Gun Channel I’m not arguing which is better. You said you were shooting 308 and not -06 because you don’t dabble in fud calibers. I am saying they are both 30 caliber. All in good fun
Are you actually a chemist?
I worked as one for ~5 years.
Breaking bad chemistry doesn’t count 😂
5.45 ammo? Green tip 556???
Bilal doha M855 cannot be made fast enough to penetrate that plate. The V50 is only listed as > 3550 as the projectile couldn’t be made to go any faster. The plate has also been tested with 7.62 x 39 API-BZ. I have not had the opportunity to try any of the 5.45 x 39 variants.
Did u really just call 30-06 a fudd caliber??? It's been used in every major modern war. Do you even know what that caliber was designed to hunt?
I'd be willing to bet the .30-06 has put holes in more enemy soldiers, from WWI to present than any other caliber round. ...probably more than twice all others combined.
Germans i guess...
@@RenaissanceThinking 8mm mauser has entered the chat
Woooooooo🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
no fud rounds you hunt bear with a Henry fud rifle in the fud cal 45 70 WTF
Fudd caliber? That's the dumbest thing I have ever heard. Lmfao.
Learning has occurred
Like it 🦆
I'm sorry, the statement near the end where you say AR500 would have been cooked through, I'm calling BS on...
30-06 goes straight through it, I just watched a video where a guy tested it.
Do you have black tip 30.06 ammo?
what level III rating are you using? level III, level III+, level IIIa, level .... 3 rifle? what does rifle mean? 16in 9mm? 556? 762? 338 lep? 50 bmg?
NIJ
@Farley Moab lololol at that point it's not even about stopping the bullet, it's absorbing the impact energy, you'll be wishing you had just got shot instead... shoot steel does make targets rated at >300yrds... but no padding #DIYweekend
Did you really imply that shooting, or even having, a .30-06 makes you a fudd? Wow, you might want to re-evaluate that thinking.
Yeh kmow, i've been wondrin, how is it all these/ you guys shoot'n Full A pieces, are able to, since that Sear Act meant No Sears made AFTER its Date, were OK, Useable. But All these New units obviously got em somehow !? 🤔🇺🇸⚖️🦅😎😉, WWG1WGA&QA's2/ P.T.'s 3%'rs, Ayuh
30-06 = M1 Garand = Fudd You!
There is a reason -06 was dropped
The VSO Gun Channel actually I’d like to know? Just a genuine question really. I’ve never shot it but I do shoot it’s larger brother 35 Whelen. It’s fantastic for when I hunt Alaska. Don’t know much of the 30-06 though.
The -06 after WWI and again after WWII and then after Korea saw a surge in the civilian markets as guys were coming home and wanted hunting rifles in a caliber they knew. From a ballistic standpoint there is no game in North America that the -06 can not take and is still taking. You can buy saboted rounds to ultra light grain rounds to 200+gr rounds currently for the venerable .30-06 today. Oh and you can buy surplus AP rounds that put perfect holes in steel.
As for recoil...my 128lb, 70 year old mother uses a cut down stocked remington 700BDL in -06 as her go to hunting rifle year in and year out for the last 45yrs.
Wm H thanks for info. Good to know.
I is are smart 2.
Wait what ar500 wont hold up Hu I call bull shit
lot of nonsense here - 6 round and the coating comes off that not impressive or any better than any body else
uh u shoot 100 rounds at the armor and think the the best armor I have seen ar500 armor on youtube before level 3+ was even produced take 100's or rounds so no big deal - nothing new to see here - ar500 ar550 and ar600 if its level 3 and all performs the same if its level 3+ all three armor times perform the same nothing new here spalding coats from all the manufactures take about the same damage maybe some kevlar sheet placed in the vest would do the same or add protection but nothing new
30-06 IS a fudd round.
Its a charge meant to create spall(small fragmentary pieces of metal from the inside of the tank itself) without actually penetrating the tank or whatever."
@@edjecollins4141 you're the first person I've met who seems to go by a different dictionary than everyone else. We're talking about body armor, not EOD.
FUDD calibre ? Still kills and better range. Just for real men!
Really wish we could have seen how a 556 from a 20" barrel would fare as that's known for poking holes in AR500 armour.
