Loved Alabama from the first time I heard them on the radio and now I have a home in Myrtle Beach and eventually I will have to pay a visit to the Bowery.
As one of the dancers in this video, I love reading all the comments. Life was simple back then. Hang out with friends, dance on the weekends. It was pure and it was fun. Love seeing how this song takes everybody back to a simpler time.
Child of the 60's & 70's. Grew up going to Myrtle every summer, missing the Sun Fun festival would have been the worst thing ever! Lol. Being from SC, the saying was...if you hadn't been to Myrtle or Folly during the summer, you hadn't been anywhere. That's why I love this song. We walked everywhere and didn't realize we were having the time of our lives. Ah nostalgia...I can still remember the smells of Hawaiian Tropic and ocean. And we danced our feet off, even us kids. Everytime I hear this song I still shag a few steps and smile. Thank you Alabama for capturing my youth 😊
You have hit the nail on the head. Myrtle Beach, the strand, Hawaiian Tropic, the pavilion and music. Every summer in the 60's and 70's. Needless to say everyone we got to meet. You bet, the memories are awesome.
This has to be one of the greatest country songs to date. Singing about something real, not what will "sell" in today's industry. One of the greatest country bands (if not the best) of all time.
I'm 34 years old and when I was a teenager the strand at Myrtle beach was the place to be on the weekends. This song sure does bring back some great memories. I wish my kid would get to experience the strand the way it use to be. Now there's nothing up there.
Gosh, watching this brings back a few memories...Seeing Alabama at the Bowery when I lived in South Carolina..One of the best country groups ever and the nicest guys. They kept their country roots. Great song!!
This is beach music you right and I remember how young I was when I first heard this song I was 21 years old and I loved it the and I love it now and will be 60 year old may 19 1963
Yes I love this song. I grew up going to Myrtle Beach and continued after I married my husband . We have listened to Alabama play at the Bowery long before they became famous . I love these guys. They are just good ole country Boys and I hate that they grew up and got old like me. But I still have my memories of standing in line to buy tickets to see their concerts in many cities .
When I hear this song I am at Bradley Beach N.J. for Country Night at the Gazebo for Line and Partner dancing with Don and Linda..Don always played this I can feel the Ocean Breeze in my face when I hear this...
One of the best Beach music songs ever. Went to most of these places in South Carolina. I am from Eastern North Carolina. 64 years old and have listened to Alabama. Craig Woolard of the Band The Embers is my 4th cousin.
Oh nostalgia! I was born in the 80s but I am an old soul and feel like i should have been here for this 50ish era, cruising the strip in a convertible. I wanna go dancin, shaggin on the boulevard.
Needed an escape from the world today, and looked up this song. I loved it when it came out, and played it often. It’s just like an old friend I haven’t seen in years. Thank you Alabama!
Hot Rod Dad! I loved this song and the movie! My VCR died but still love this song! Enjoy! Life too short not to listen to what ya love! Me too! God bless!
My family came to MB every summer in the mid 80's-early 90's from West Virginia... It's the last place I saw my Mom before she passed...a piece of my soul will always be there.
I grew up in North Carolina and spent a lot of time in Myrtle Beach and Charleston when I was growing up so this song has always been and always will be very special to me.
I know just about every thing they are talking about in this song... it is sad that most of the places are just memories now. The spanish galleon is still up in North Myrtle Beach I have never been there but my cousins have
This is such a great song and a great video but are are wondering what the dance the people are doing. Love it and brings back good ole memories. Thanks Alabama
So many people will never know what it was like in Myrtle Beach South Carolina back in the 60's-80's. A time for innocence and just plain fun. No matter where you go in this world, they're no other beaches like Myrtle beach was during that time period. None in California, Florida or New Jersey. It has changed now. The Famous Pavilion is gone for some reason we don't know. Drugs have taking over parts of Ocean Blvd. Prostitutes all over the place, black bike week out of control with their vulgar dressing and actions in front of little children. This song that Alabama plays here is what it was like back then. It will never be the same again. I am one of the fortunate to have experienced this error.
I am 70 years old and not only does this tune just slow everything down a relaxing notch but the words paint such great memories of Myrtle Beach from my high school and college years when all it took was “let’s go to the beach this weekend” to get a group up for the 3 hour drive….and there we were cruising the boulevard. This is my favorite songs of all time because of the way it captures that slice of my life. Many thanks for the memories
Love the music, cruised alot in the 60's. My hubby restored a '57 T-bird just like the one in the video. We visited Myrtle Beach later in life. Would have loved to visit back when!
I live 30 mins from down town Myrtle..thats where some of my best memories are from, and yes its changed a lot from what it used to be, but is still one of the best places to go all year along.
Back when Alabama first came around, saw them in concert several times, todays concerts cost so much more! But I loved them then and still do! Always a fun concert!
I am 72 now and in my day was a good dancer. But coming from the Philly area, we did not dance or even heard music like this. I wish I had as that dance looks like a ton of fun.
I was born in 1990 and when I was young, but old enough to remember how it was those were the best times. Myrtle Beach will never be the same and its a shame that the pavilion was closed down, it was a historical landmark and well appreciated and fun place for family. Im glad to say that I was there the last day it was open. I miss the old M.B. so many great times.
I don't know why they close and tear down the places that make the beach so much fun. All they do is put up high rise condos and destroy the soul and history of Myrtle Beach, Panana City, Daytona The list goes on. The places of our good times and memories. I guess it's called progress but the steal the heart and soul of so many places. My grandkids will never experience dancing, shagging on the boulevard. What a horrible injustice progresd has done to these generations. Love love Alabama song. The were one of the greatest bands. I'm 73 and I miss cruising , the Pavilions , where young people playes the juke box, danced, laughed and met people from all over. No guns just fun.
Love this song and video by Alabama. They captured Myrtle Beach exactly during my teen years and after with my husband, now deceased. Brings back so many memories! ❤
When Rivers Ave in North Charleston wasn't happening on a summer cruise, Friday or Saturday night, we'd book up to Myrtle to cruise the boulevard which was always happening. Summerville, where I'm from and Myrtle Beach just aren't the same. '70s and early '80s Myrtle were the best. ✌️
Alabama will always be one of the greatest bands in the world!! I am a Tuscaloosa native and just in case you have been living under a rock we also play a little FOOTBALL!!!
The best time in the history of Country Music coming from the likes of Alabama, George Strait, Alan Jackson, just to name a few, made life so easy to deal with. There was a song for everything that we were experiencing. Days gone by will never be forgotten because of the tapes, records, and their concerts.
The pavilion was Myrtle Beach's heart, when the tore it down they effectively Murdered Myrtle Beach. I guess the new nickname of Murder Beach is fitting.
I had a rag top way back before kids.68 Le Man's, summer cruising Jersey Shore and upstate N Y at Sylvan Beach .But I did make it to Myrtle Beach in 1971 weekend from Fort Benning. Went to the Pavilion, great place. Why did it close?
Missing this type of fantastic music brings back Alabama at the Bowery in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina when my Aunt got on the table and started dancing 💃.
There are independent dance studios sprinkled all over! One might be closer than you realize. Plus, event halls and organizations like Elk's Lodges often host dance events.
Man i love the fact that i can say that i am from Myrtle Beach,SC (Garden City) and i know all the places. I'm stationed in Norfolk till june and i will have had 6 years in the military so I'll get to return to this legendary boulevard! Anyone who has been there knows that the place has a magic that is totally unique!
Alabama hit #3 in Billboard, 9-20-97. No offense meant here, gang, but, God bless! It's how I ALWAYS end my comments. God bless, especially to the Alabama cousins!
As a baby boomer I experienced all this -- making the scene on the strip, dancing to live music at clubs, swimming and suntanning at beaches -- I never thought it would end. This music brings it all back. Miss it more than I can say.
Saw Alabama in concert so many times, back when tickets were cheaper! The prices for tickets today are outragious! Decide to eat for a month or go to a concert!
the strand is just not the same anymore the pavilion is gone and that is a sure shame that there will be kids who will never know what a great place it was
The memories of MB. I grew up in the 60's, 70's when the beach was the place to be. Met so many girls there every summer. Even got engaged to one. But it did not work out. If only we could turn back the hands of time. This would be my place to be again. Such memories. I even had a Corvette in 71 to cruise the Blvd. Man o man, what times. MB is done now. Hey! How many hits does Alabama have? How many championships does Alabama have? You do the math.Long live the band Alabama and ROLL TIDE! HEY GEORGIA-You played a great game in the championship! Hats off to you!
This song and watching this video makes me want to cry. I remember we went to Myrtle Beach every year for vacation as a kid. What I wouldn't give to be able tongo back to those days.
Man, this video brings so many memories. My mom teaching us kids to Shag. Telling us stories of how Alabama played at the Bowery. IT was a mystical time all those years ago. MB has always had that effect. It was so cool to walk the strip at night while on vacation and see all the lights. And you didn;t experience The Pavilion unless you rode the Corkscrew and the Rainbow. MAn............
Just heard this song during a dancercise class I started attending in 2022. Love it. In 2023 I asked a classmate who was singing it and she said it was Alabama. I couldn’t believe it. It didn’t sound like a country song to me. Googled this song and started doing some of the steps I have learned. 😊👏🏽
I absolutely love this song! Alabama is one of my favorites! Saw them several times back in the 80's in Cincinnati! Tickets were so much cheaper back then!
Mark Herndon didn’t play the drums on the recording. He was primarily a live drummer. He did record the drums on their biggest hit Mountain Music but session drummers did record most of the songs.
These were the best days in MB
Myrtle Beach's Best Days Ever................Long gone now
Loved Alabama from the first time I heard them on the radio and now I have a home in Myrtle Beach and eventually I will have to pay a visit to the Bowery.
Go there! Their current house band is fantastic and reminds me of Alabama. The Bounty Hunters
Sad Day : Rest in Peace Jeff Cook.
Thank you for sharing your guitar and fiddle skills with the world.

Mark Herndon didn’t play the drums on the recording. He was primarily a live drummer. He did record the drums on their biggest hit Mountain Music but session drummers did record most of the songs.
My mom and dad was listening to Alabama when I was 10 yrs old.. I'm 39 now and I'm still listening to them.. 🌹🎤💃💃

This song is easy on the ears and good for the heart. Brings me back to my youth.
