Friday night dances and sock hops were always the best part of the week.* I could never count the number of times I've danced to "In the Still of the Night." I didn't understand at the time how special it was to grow up in small-town America in that era. Looking back, I can see it clearly. How did I get so fortunate?? *Just need to add that, during the summer, teen night at the pool was right up there with the Friday night dances.
My friends I live through all of that and then some grew up in New York City in the Bronx in the early 60s life was a lot simpler back then but also a heart at the same time government was not so big then Big Brother wasn't always looking over your shoulder enjoy the memories
I'm 71, knocking on 72. You're as young as you think, perhaps not as you feel. When I 1st heard this I thought, WOW! Ronnie nailed this far better than I've ever heard. My kids grew up with this music, the oldest 49, the youngest 39 & all 5 still listen to it. I just passed it on.
This is such a great song. My parents grew up in the 50’s, they don’t stop talking how great it was. Well, I grew up in the 80’s and I feel the same way. Really is a shame today doesn’t have this kind of warmth, this kind of feeling. Best to you all.
My grandparents would tell me so much about the 40's and 50's, just thinking of it and their stories makes me sad, wish they were here, and wish I could've got a glimpse of this. God bless.
Lost both grandparents in 2019 when I was a kid they would dance to this in the living room until my poor grandmas arthritis took over. Such a deep love they had for each other they were married 64 years. What a time, what a love what a life
I was 12 years old in 1956. I remember when Elvis started. And now He is gone. It just doesn't seem right. The 50s and 60s were the greatest time in history. People trusted each other. You never worried about getting shot on your front porch or at a store. People went out of there way to help each other in the 50s and 60s. People Preach forget about the past and think about the future. I don't want to forget about the past because it was a past worth remembering forever. The future is something to worry about.

I danced with my first girl with "In the Still of the Night" by the Drifters playing on a 45 rpm record way back in 1963. One of the dreamiest nights of my life.
Cool cars. Cool haircuts. Cool music. Wailing saxophones. Jerry Lee. Little Richard. James Dean. Dancing. American Bandstand. I'm so damn glad to have been alive at that time.
I was in high school in the 50's . It was the greatest time of my life. Married my High School sweetheart. We were married for 58 years. I miss it all so much.
They tell me the same thing. I stayed in the past. I just love the music from back then . Best music ever. I could dance to it all night long but i just could not find someone who felt the same
Music has a beautiful ability to heal and it doesn't matter if that healing is to the mind or spirit. Life can be hard at times. Why not remember try to remember the feelings of long ago..the beginning of all our hopes and dreams. If we are able to lose ourselves for awhile .. remember and feeling can be a blessing. Ill take all the blessings I can get. I don't think everyone will have such memories and to me that's sad. Enjoy your music Jim!
Nothing wrong with that I listen every night I was 13 in 1954 I was in the Vietnam war came home went to college university Oakland 6 yrs then went to work Thor the federal Govt but I kept Ronnie Milsap I am glad GOD gave him a beautiful wife an voice RONNIE WE LOVE YOU MY WIFE AN MYSELF I PRAY YOU LIVE A LONG AN HAPPY LIFE YOU ARS OUR HEROE GB

Remembering the past does Not mean we are living in it. What it Really means is that we have wonderful memories of the Times when we had TIME to really Know what was important in life! Love, tenderness, sharing, dancing close, and valuing what will NEVER happen again. Worlds is going out of control, but we have our GOD, our country, and our family and friends AND Memories.

I also saw Ronnie in concert, about three years ago, at a club in Annapolis, Maryland. He was AMAZING!! I'm 67 now, have loved Ronnie Milsap for over 50 years!! And that night, in Annapolis, as I watched Ronnie, so appreciative to be there, as he serenaded us with his incredible voice and sweet, warm heartfelt lyrics, I was truly "Lost in the Fifties" that night!! 🌙 🌉 ❤️
This song is so very special in so many ways! It takes us back to the grand good old days when life was simpler and family truly meant something! It tells the true heartfelt meaning of falling in love with that special someone who took your breath away!! And lastly it was what was playing in the front seat while we played in the back!!! I could relive those days over and over again!!!!
Its great to hear this music, As many of us older listeners can say, This floods our minds with so many memories. Its wonderful. God Bless all that are here to listen to this magical mans voice
Ronnie Milsap is one of the best singers ever, he's my favorite by far... do yourself a favor and binge listen all of his stuff, you'll be glad you did
I can't really describe what that song does to me but it's just a great feeling.....maybe nostalgia? maybe innocence lost? maybe because I grew up around that era? I don't know but it's cool as hell.
Love Ronnie Milsap he has such an awesome voice and is true country. I'm 54 yrs old and I grew up listening to Ronnie Milsap and George Jones and the others LOVE the old country
My husband and I listened to a 8 track of Ronnie Millsap the first night we went out and to this day we Love his music and we have a 45 rpm jukebox and we have his records on it.

Back in my teen years, I saw Ronnie Milsap in concert. He put on an awesome show, and he has a great sense of humor. I'm 58 now, and remember that concert as though it was yesterday. God Bless you Ronnie Milsap.

Those wonderful days of driving to school in your senior year with one the most beautiful girls in the senior class and walking in the main patio with her arm in arm makes up for all the boring times you are now going through as in senior in life.
Got to enjoy both Doowop worlds....in 1956 the Five Satins came out with "In the still of the night", and in 1985 Ronnie Milsap came out with "Lost in the 50's Tonight"....both versions are fantastic....in '56 I was in high school...!!! No matter, when I hear either of these songs my memory goes way back as do the emotions of those eras.
I was born in 51 so no romantic memories of the 50's but nice ones of many things in a united America. WW2 aircraft searchlights leading us to a fair or other activity. Ice cream stands, drive-ins, very dark sky at night, 2 or 3 TV channels, AM radio....
Heard it for the first time on a country radio station tonight, love the song. Brings back good memories of my late husband. Really miss him. Ronnie Milsap has an awesome voice he is so talented.
Ronnie Milsap sure can sing. Lost in the Fifties Tonight was Milsap's 42nd single to be released. At the same time, it was also his 27th No. 1 hit on the Billboard Hot Country Singles. Sad that his Mother did not want her own child because he was born blind and thought God was Punishing her. Thankfully his grandparents took him as their own at the age of one and a half. God had plans for Ronnie who is now 73 years old and is releasing Hymns...God Bless you Ronnie!~
Thank you for sharing this info.I have been searching for this version of the song for a long time. Now I know exactly who sings it and will add it to my playlist.
I went to a George Strait concert in 2008 and Ronnie opened for George and the whole crowd was singing with him and it was my first time hearing his music and I was hooked I had to listen to all of his music that night on the drive home it was amazing.
Brings back memories of my era! After football game dances, my date whispering in my ear how great I played, cruising from one end of our home town to the other! Truly a time of sweet innocents!
Sounds exactly like my youth. Depending on which year (sophomore, junior or senior), I may not have been able to whisper how well my guy had played since the one in my junior year was mostly a bench warmer. 😆 But it was okay with me because he was a good dancer. Those Friday night dances and sock hops were always the best part of the week.* I could never begin to count the number of times I've danced to "In the Still of the Night." I didn't understand at the time how special it was to grow up in small-town America in that era. Looking back, I can see it clearly. How did I get so fortunate?? *Just need to add that, during the summer, teen night at the pool was right up there with the Friday night dances.

Born 1964, still get a tear in my eye listening to this, thinking about my folks, married in '59 - and we played this song in a cover band i played in. Great tune, only Ronnie could write it
Born in 1955, so I lived through all the eras of music since then, many historical events as well, I feel lucky for that..... this song epitomises those times...

I'm 32. i am blessed to be born in a time with all these great tech stuff and a share of old tech along with some people I have meet in my life. When it comes to people now days. Makes me wish I was alive in the fifties. People were better back then and got along better. I know there are good people out there now. They are hard to find.
I graduated in 1955, I feel I grew up at the best time ever!!! the war was over and everyone was working, what a great time too grow up and the music was just wonderful, the 5 satin's really sang this song also!!!!
We can go thru the rest of our lives with this one song and only this one song sung so beautifully by Ronnie and be satisfied for our lifetimes. Just an Absolutely Amazing Talent. 🤙🏻🤙🏻🤙🏻🤙🏻🤙🏻
I'm 74 now. I would sing this song to my daughter at night as a baby. We did the father daughter dance at her wedding. Not a dry eye. One of my best work friends was Ronnie's first cousin! Didn't know that for 20 years! Lol
I'm 74 and music like this takes back to such wonderful time . God I miss it.
Music today can't compete with back then.
I met my husband at a school dance in 1957. 1 was 15 and he was 16. Ah what sweet memories.
Still married to him for 53 years.
That's beautiful. Your're so lucky
We were so innocent and naive. How lucky we were to grow up in those great years!
In the 80's we knew what...
When life was life and music was music. Can I get an amen?
Amen..no one can imagine what we experienced unless they were there.

This was one of my dad's favorite songs. He used to randomly belt out "Hooold me darlin'." I laugh cry every time I hear it.
Nice nice
who doesn't wanna get lost in the fifties? it was a time of great movies tv shows and amazing music plus it was more innocent times then!
I'm all in on that one thank you!!!
yes it was a better time than it is now
I mean besides the racism

I was getting divorced 1983, Ronnie helped.
Dave Logsdon hi DAVE! But now the question is can you still hear the whispers laugh out loud
This and the next one,Smoky Mt Rain are my favorite Ronnie songs EVER!!
Met. My Nancy in 1960 . 53 wonderful years together she passed away 20 months ago from a brain tumor .these songs keep me going Jerry.

Born 1964, still get a tear in my eye listening to this, thinking about my folks, married in '59 - and we played this song in a cover band i played in. Great tune, only Ronnie could write it
It was actually written by Troy seals, and someone else, along with Five Satins' singer Fred Parris, who wrote the song the chorus came from.
Born in 1955, so I lived through all the eras of music since then, many historical events as well, I feel lucky for that..... this song epitomises those times...
Ronnie Millsap can sing ❤️

I was born in 1949. Toward the end of the fabulous 50's Saw Elvis on the Ed Sullivan Show in 56 I was 5 they kept the Camera above his waist but I never put much thought to it. Growing up in the 50's was a good time I started School in 56. 60 year ago I was in Second grade. I would like to go back for a day.
Thank You Fred Paris and the rest of the 5 satins, and Fred is still singing today!!!!
I swear those sax's are killing me! 😀❤️😀❤️
I never knew he had a cover of this song. Love it. I knew this song from Dirty Dancing and Ronnie's version has been requested the past 2 nights on the country radio and I instantly fell in love... miss the old country legends 😔

I love Robbie’s talent and sense of humour. In this video he is driving a car; not bad for a blind man.
I have listened to this song so many times through the years.
Love the 50,s songs, they had beautiful words of LOVE with Feeling and Compasion.Great time to be a teenager growing up at that time.
I'm 32. i am blessed to be born in a time with all these great tech stuff and a share of old tech along with some people I have meet in my life. When it comes to people now days. Makes me wish I was alive in the fifties. People were better back then and got along better. I know there are good people out there now. They are hard to find.

I'm 74 now. I would sing this song to my daughter at night as a baby. We did the father daughter dance at her wedding. Not a dry eye. One of my best work friends was Ronnie's first cousin! Didn't know that for 20 years! Lol
I would love to go back to the fifties. A peaceful time in my life.
Ronnie is so great, this is a wonderful song. Thanks Mr. Milsap💖
