My mom was madly in love with Randy Owen. I remember I loved listening to Alabama with her. She went to a concert and I remember being so excited for her. I've grown and watched her beat cancer twice. She is my hero.
My dad passed away yesterday and now I'm making a playlist with all the songs he loved and I remember him by. This is one of them. Thank you dad for showing me the greatest artists of all times. Loved, missed and never forgotten 🤘🔥❤
What a beautiful youth that must have been. I was just telling my buddy it must have been amazing growing up with Alabama, real country, and classic rock.
It’s 2022 I’m 40 years old and this song still takes me back to being 10 and my grandparents dancing to this in the living room and it still brings a tear to my eye.
In 1978, I was 22. And the 1st time I ever even heard of these guys, was when my sister in laws grabbed me and said “ Do you want to go see Alabama sing?” I was like”Sure whoever they are!” And we went! That concert was in the Great Falls, Mont. high school gym. Seriously. Maybe? 1000 people attended. I was hooked on them with the first song. Mesmerized. I went home to Washington state and hunted down their albums. Not a lot of country music in my area then. I’ve been lucky enough to have seen them in concert 4 times since. And have most their albums , and their signatures. As they used to stay after concerts and sign the programs. This video reminds me so much of what it felt like to sit so close in that gym and listen to them. I’ve never forgotten or taken that for granted, how lucky I was that night.
Arguably the greatest country band ever. “Take Me Down” is a stunning piece of crossover country that still gets to me nearly 40 years later.. Those vocal harmonies are in league with The Eagles’.
I'd like to hear the argument against it. There's no country band even in the same conversation as Alabama. It's not as if they're the best, there's nobody else even mentionable. Who are we supposed to compare them to, restless heart? They easily are the greatest country band ever, they had over 40 #1 hits, no band is even close to that.
I read they played the Bowery in Myrtle Beach 6 nights a week for tips only. They would lay in bed at night before sleeping and practice harmonies. It paid off to say the least 💯
I just watched the CMT special on this band last night. Such a beautiful tribute! I had not clue that Jeff had passed away. RIP. Still an amazing group.
What a timeless, classic band. I remember seeing them in 1985 in Ft.Worth, TX. I was 9 months pregnant. Reba McEntire was their opening act. Such memories!
My first ALABAMA concert was in 1982...I was 2...still have the tiny little shirt that says, "ALABAMA on Tour 1982." I was VERY blessed that my parents took me to see ALABAMA every, single year from 1982 til around 1999. (Sometimes we got to see them twice a year when we would go to Myrtle Beach.) Through the years, we would wait and do and "meet and greet" with them after their concerts ~ they truly LOVE their fans!! All I can say now (being 42) is WoW ~ they were and are still AMAZING!!! Always loved Mark's hair here. And do y'all notice Jeff's shirt? Randy always spot on and Teddy is just way too cool.
I remember my mom and dad used to listen to this back in the 80’s and I thought they were crazy, I didn’t like country at all but I’m 51 now and love listening to Alabama and how great their music was and is, the music these days just has no soul basically it SUCKS!!!!!!!
1980's I was 12 yrs old .. 1st concert 1st kiss... Randy Owens .. on the cheek... thank you for giving me a reason to believe in the innocence of love...
IM 51, and I still listen I was a little girl when I first started listening to Alabama. I think they will ALWAYS BE MY FAVORITE BAND. I started listening to them when I was 7 or 8 years old!!!😊
I was thinking of my lovely mom , who passed away May 6th of 2024 . This song came to mind so I had to listen ( and sing along) to it. Mom loved her country music… Miss you momma 🤍🕊️…….
song will forever remind me of my parents, this journey, and eagles. we used to drive from Oklahoma back to Arizona for holidays and summer. im 30 years old and i finally found out who sings this song. I have read a lot of yalls memories and how this brings back your grandparents. You all have no idea how much i wish i had those memories. I never got to meet them, so im living vicariously thru yall. So thank you.
I hated Alabama when I was younger because they sounded too pop. Today, compared to the new country, this was stone cold hard core country music. I also find myself listening to them quite a lot.
Once I used to hate country or not listen to it at all except a few songs. Now when I am by myself when my mom isn't around I listen to it more, feeling like it's better than a lot of music out there now
@@JSharpe427 I am more open minded to music now at 50 years old than I was as a kid. The pop music I hated in the 80s I listen to a lot now too. The new country music of today is just too processed. Every song is dirt road, Chevy truck, hey girl, and bon fire. All the singers sound the same too, with the exception of a few. I think you will find that you can't go wrong with any music from the 70s -late 90s though. Good luck in your music journey, hope you discover many great songs.
Greatest band ever,,people say glad they are back ,in my world they never stopped ,been a fan since 1980 . My husband knows if I get goose bumps from music ,it's Alabama, or Elvis🥰🥰🥰

I was at Hamilton place mall in chattanooga and eating in the food court. I looked over at the next table and mark Herndon was sitting there talking to a friend. He seemed really down to earth and laid back. Thanks Mark for assuring me that not all celebrities are stuck on themselves and selfish. Oprah!

My most favorite country band of all time. I just picked up the fiddle at the beginning of my school year, my life long goal is to one day, be able to play it as well as that one guy can, love Alabama.❤
The way I've heard you play the fiddle already, sis, you are very good at it, you'll be there in no time, your very good at belting out those notes and you do it very quickly, your a very fast learner when it comes to music and a lot of things.🤗

I don't know why I never before noticed that opening riff, but this is one of my favorite songs now. Alabama is responsible for some of the very best songs ever written.
If you’re here, and lived through the 70’s, and 80’s, then you remember an America that was magical, and HAPPY. Everyone was just waiting for Friday night to chase a pretty face, and listen to great music. A big salute to everyone who found their way here to get just a few minutes of amazing memories from that time frame. We’re all that’s left of the best of what America used to be…….
I'd recommend blaming the record companies first and foremost. They have an unreasonable amount of control, and albums won't be released until the label OKs every song. I've read some instances where successful artists have been told to scrap the songs they've made to be their lead single three or four times before the label finally accepts one. Artists take a lot of heat for the crap they make, but when it comes down to it, it's either they produce "pop-country" music, or they'll get passed up for someone else who will. Artists get very little control about what they make. If they had the freedom to do their own thing, you'd hear more variety in country. Not only old school country, but artists would probably go in many different directions. It would be real, it would be unique, and there'd be a little bit of everything for everyone, rather than one specific type for a very specific demographic.
Me and Daddy use to cruise in the woods and jam Alabama. I'm 41 now and Daddy is 74... Wow how the time flys. Alabama as been there the whole time. Learned how to drive in Ol Wayne National Forest while daddy sipped on a 12 pack. When I was 14 I use to drive us home.. lol.. Home was 45 minutes away. Ol how I miss them days...
It's November 2022 and I just found out Jeff Cook died. As I sit here in Montgomery, Alabama tonight, I seek refuge in my childhood memories of growing up in Hokes Bluff, Alabama and that time in 1984(ish) I went to the Alabama Mueseum in Fort Payne with my scout troup and we heard these fellas rehearsing in a garage space in the back. One of my buddies lifted me up so I could peek in the window. Seeing them in that context was one of the most thrilling experiences of my young life. These guys were the soundtrack of my childhood. I was born in 1975 and lived in a tiny town about an hour from them. There's not a lot that we Alabamians can be proud of but these boys are that great exception. Thanks Jeff for your part in giving that little redneck boy some great songs to sing while riding my Huffy bicycle down those old back roads.
The closer you get, the further I fall I'll be over the edge now in no time at all I'm fallin' faster and faster and faster with no time to stall The closer you get, the further I fall Could I be dreamin' Is this really real 'Cause there's something magic The way that I feel in your arms here tonight The closer you get, the further I fall I'll be over the edge now in no time at all I'm fallin' faster and faster and faster with no time to stall The closer you get, the further I fall Keep fallin', oh, yeah, yeah, keep fallin', mm, fallin', oh, yeah, yeah, I'm fallin' Yes, I'm fallin' (Yes, I'm fallin' Yes, I'm fallin') Yes, I'm fallin' (Yes, I'm fallin' Yes, I'm fallin') Yes, we're fallin' (Yes, we're fallin' Yes, we're fallin') The closer you get, oh baby the further I fall I'll be over the edge now in no time at all I'm fallin' faster and faster and faster with no time to stall The closer you get, the further I fall

I Love Alabama and their great sound of guitar, drums and THEM VOCALS!!!! GREAT SONG, makes me smile and think when I was 5 years old running barefoot in the house from hearing this on mommas stereo. I would just DANCE!!🥰🤘
My all time favorite country music band and one of the biggest reasons why i love counry music because these brothers make it so much fun to sing with no matter what they play
What a rewind Alabama is for us folks in our early to mid 60 now. Back then we were in our early to mid 20s and were have'n the time of our lives. Even with as bad as things are right now in this world. Never think for one second that your not living in the best times of your life. Live it to the fullest. You'll look back on 2022 with memories that you wish you could relive too. Saw Alabama with Waylon in the 80s. What a great show it was.
Man I'll tell you this was when country was country. Alabama had a true country sound and it never changed. I really miss these days because the country today doesn't even sound like country anymore. I wish we could go back to country music like this. Or in reality this kind of country actually made sense.
I CANNOT WAIT to see you guys on June 3rd here in Roanoke VA. WHOO HOO ! Wanted 5th row on the floor in the middle & that's exactly what I got. Have loved you forever !!
I'd like to thank my Parents for introducing me to This band when I was a lil guy wearing my first pair of "cowboy boots." Missing you both endlessly= Doodle.
Alabama is THE STANDARD by which all country music, as well many other genres should aspire to achieve. Of course they can not, and will not ever be duplicated. Only imitated.
The soundtrack of my youth, Alabama. Well them and Eric Clapton. Eric collaborated with MANY artists….Eric with Alabama would have been a grand-slam home run !

You're so right Those were the good Ole days SO many great memories that I cherish
Love Alabama. The greatest country band of all time. This song is timeless.
I remember back in the day Alabama would win every country music award year after year...
I'm proud to say I'm from Ft.Payne, Alabama

I’m proud to say I’m from Etowah County,Alabama
Maplesville, Al

this is the real country music why don't we hear this any more on the radio
Jade Neidler someone killed country music . It wasn't George Strait
Jade Neidler it's to good for the radio!
My answer would be that today's country music just sucks.
So Jade Neidler then...
Please OH Please bring me back to the 80s
The closer you get, the further I fall
I'll be over the edge now in no time at all
I'm fallin' faster and faster and faster with no time to stall
The closer you get, the further I fall
Could I be dreamin'
Is this really real
'Cause there's something magic
The way that I feel in your arms here tonight
The closer you get, the further I fall
I'll be over the edge now in no time at all
I'm fallin' faster and faster and faster with no time to stall
The closer you get, the further I fall
Keep fallin', oh, yeah, yeah, keep fallin', mm, fallin', oh, yeah, yeah, I'm fallin'
Yes, I'm fallin' (Yes, I'm fallin' Yes, I'm fallin')
Yes, I'm fallin' (Yes, I'm fallin' Yes, I'm fallin')
Yes, we're fallin' (Yes, we're fallin' Yes, we're fallin')
The closer you get, oh baby the further I fall
I'll be over the edge now in no time at all
I'm fallin' faster and faster and faster with no time to stall
The closer you get, the further I fall
Back before the country lost it's mind.... and soul.

I agree.
jpringle1979 couldn't have said it better.
Ironically, this song was under fire when it was released because of the heavy use of the electric guitar as country pushed the envelope.
Alabama was the best. I lived in Idaho and during the 1980s, no Country band was better.
seen them in 85 at the Milwaukee Mile. 40 Hour Week Tour, I was just 12 years old and loved it.❤
I Love Alabama and their great sound of guitar, drums and THEM VOCALS!!!!

I have three minutes of battery left, and this is how I'm going to spend it.
I just fall in love every day for Alabama Songs. I'am so happy to be alive while they still on road.
Now this is music
For me 80s-90s country the best!
Indeed
Yes
What a rewind Alabama is for us folks in our early to mid 60 now. Back then we were in our early to mid 20s and were have'n the time of our lives. Even with as bad as things are right now in this world. Never think for one second that your not living in the best times of your life. Live it to the fullest. You'll look back on 2022 with memories that you wish you could relive too. Saw Alabama with Waylon in the 80s. What a great show it was.
Alabama ❤
Damn, they just don't make em like that no more.
don't think hank don it this away....no I don't think he created rap lyrics and kicked away the ol steel guitars
I live in Iowa City
Sure don't.
Unfortunately they don't..real country i fear is gone forever :(
No they don’t
Man I'll tell you this was when country was country. Alabama had a true country sound and it never changed. I really miss these days because the country today doesn't even sound like country anymore. I wish we could go back to country music like this. Or in reality this kind of country actually made sense.
Listen to Cody Johnson
I’m 56 , still listening too!!!
Standing drummer pounding the fu#k out of the snare drum !!! "Yes I'm falling ,yes I'm falling, yes I'm falling yes I'm falling" !
I CANNOT WAIT to see you guys on June 3rd here in Roanoke VA. WHOO HOO ! Wanted 5th row on the floor in the middle & that's exactly what I got. Have loved you forever !!
Best “crossover” band along with the “eagles” of all time. All ages, pop or country, loved this band.
I'd like to thank my Parents for introducing me to This band when I was a lil guy wearing my first pair of "cowboy boots." Missing you both endlessly= Doodle.
Much love brother
5to is a seal of the word of the word and it has
A forgotten band. Forget the genre. They were brilliant.
Had the 45 when I was 8 in 1983 when I bought it. This country so much better than today’s stuff.
These are some superbad brothers from other mothers. Their music bridged huge culture gaps. Country Rock Blues.
That close up of Randy Owen at 0:25 is so totally 80s.

Im 49.....grew up listening to Alabama....love this band.....of course......still listening ❤
Greatest country band ever.
Who is listening to true country/8/2024?
We don't let country die down here in the south! #615 #NASHVILLETN
