Might depend on the river. Some PNW small coastal rivers aren’t that much different.

It's great that Brian hasnt pushed an American net brand just because he's based in USA and is American. There are some great American manufacturers eg Penn, Simms, Orvis etc but it gives me comfort that Brian says it as it is without fear nor favour to any brand or nationality. Quality is quality from wherever it comes.
I've got one of your McLean nets made in New Zealand too. Superb.

Completely agree with budget gear being effective. I believe I payed around $100 for a 9’ 3 wt rod reel and line combo just to have a super light rod for panfish and it’s just been working well for me. Don’t get much trout fishing done out here, but it’s worked great for panfish and probably have gotten around 1,000 or so bluegill and crappie on it since I got it. I’m sure a more expensive rod would work better, but I simply don’t have the money for a $250 rod and a $60 reel and $60 flyline, and I think a lot of people are in the same position as me. Never stopped me from getting out there and catching fish though.

@@Madriveroutfitters that's great news.... I've been shopping around for books about fishing soft hackles...
Also I always feel like my leader game is weak sauce. You do a good job of explaining leaders....I keep a leader journal, and try to make them ahead of time....because my memory doesn't get any better every year on my birthday. I have anticipated your "end of the line" book for some time now. I hope we get to see that soon too 😉

I live in the PNW on the west side of the cascades and I’ve been steelheading for over a year now on spey rods and I’ve caught a grand total of zero. I’m going to try high sticking for them. I catch a ton of trout using that method so it stands to reason that I should do this method for PNW steelhead as well despite all the cool kids swinging.

Question on your Leader section. The leader seems relatively close to the rio euro nymphing leader. Starts a 0x-2x for 11 feet then a trout tippet ring. Would this work as a decent substitute for a steelhead leader? Thanks for all your great videos. You guys have taught me so much!

Hi Brian, I was looking to pick up a Redington Path combo on sale at a local store. The only length/wt available is the 9ft. 8wt. I've been researching and most people say it's important for the length rod to be 9.5 to 10 ft. for more comfortable casting, and easier time mending the line. Is the length important here?
