Cried my eyes out this week. Danni’s gloves are the same ones my mum had. She loved gardening and spent hours messing about with green things. Missing her again on Mother’s Day, but seeing the joy in Danni as she makes her green adventure start was just lovely.

To be perfectly honest I believe your stainless steel planter is actually a fish poacher used for cooking full size fish. But I'm sure it'll make a wonderful planter that won't give you any problems rusting out exclamation point

Firstly good to see you Joe with your beer, Ben and Emily mentioned it the other day.
The boxed veg bed looked really good 🤞it works out for you to have your own fresh home grown food.
Thank you for sharing. Take care and stay safe.

Waaay too early for cucumbers to germinate outdoors. You want to start them off in a seed tray (recycled desert pots are good for this) indoors and transplant out once they're small plants late in May. Spring onions should be fine, but regular onions really needed sowing before Christmas to have a long enough growing season. "Winter density" lettuce has a long growing season and is worth growing in colder months. Beetroot would probably do OK in that bed. I'd also try spinach and rocket in there - but most things probably want sowing in another month or two.

Great work on the planter Joe! It’s great to see that you are going to grow your own veggies & herbs. Did you know that you can start your spring onions, yellow & red, celery and many other veg from your kitchen scraps? If you Google “ 10 vegetables you can grow from kitchen scraps” , the Ladies name Mary Nest. She has loads of veggie garden hints for beginners. Can’t share the channel as youtube won’t let me🤨. Anyway, once you get your first harvest you will be able to use the scraps& cuttings to regrow more, thus cutting your costs. Hope you don’t mind the suggestions, just wanted to share with you. Hope your first little garden is a great success, Take care, xx💕🇨🇦

    Hi Joe, Hi Danni
What an incredible shot of the boat in the mist. I just love other shots you have accomplished with the drone.
Joe have you considered having a beer producer as a sponsor?
Joe the boards that you used to make the raised gardens, what an amazing idea. I just asked my partner if she had seen anything like them over here and the answer was NO. Where did you get them from, B&Q?
In future if you require a protective finish on wood that will not leach chemicals, look at either a marine wax or oil like Swedish or Tung. They seem to work well.

This is looking good well done, couple of suggestions, onion sets are much easier to get a return on. Spring onions, a fun trick, if you buy a bunch and when you use keep the bottom inch or two at the bulb end and plant in soil, bingo a new spring onion never fails. Then something I do to supplement early crops is buy some supermarket potted herbs and divide up often x8 plants from one, it a quick return when the soil in my raised beds is cold early in the year.

Should look up hydro/aquaponics vertical gardens. You could run drain pipe along sides of your boat and grow loads. Can use a tank and a pump and do flood and drain method or just soil and water it yourself but can be three times a day in summer.

Well done on your garden selection! If you can find a piece of thick plastic lying around you can lay it over the top and make a little greenhouse until the weather warms up.
Seeds need warm, damp soil to germinate, which is why so many people in climates like yours start seeds inside at this time of year. You could start them under your cratch cover if these don’t work then transfer them out when it’s a bit warmer.
Seed packets also fit in the pocket photo albums, and you’ll likely find a few of those in your charity shop adventures!

I was born in Watford many moons ago and you’re moored in Cassiobury Park where we played as kids ( 1960’s), we often saw workboats on the canal including “Ovaltine” and “Dickinson paper mill boats”… I’ve also moored where you are many times over the years but it can get very busy with Gongoozerlers in summer time. You’ll soon be heading toward Hunton Bridge ( under the M25) then onto Apsely where you’ll find either the “Old Red Lion” or “ The Paper Mill” pubs… 👍🏻

I guess you haven't heard. The UN says small gardens are bad for the environment as they produce much more carbon emissions than do an equivalent amount of produce from large farm operations. So, be good little UN robots, mind your betters, and don't provide for yourselves. Enjoy the WEF crickets.

Can't believe you're using a Fish Kettle as a Planter. Before I'd retired I would have paid for that Kettle, would have been really useful.

Favor to ask. Part of the fun of watching your channel is to be able to follow your trips on Google Earth. Is there any chance you could/would use what3words at the start of each video. The what3words would give your viewers the exact location of your starting point. At the least let us know what canal you're on, closest village, city and direction you're heading. A lot of time if we know the name of the canal and what bridge number you are passing under, we can Google the location of the bridge. Appreciate any help you will offer.

I grow shallots from the ones I buy. Put the bottom of the shallot bulbs into water and they will grow roots, transplant into your garden. To harvest just cut the green part off don’t dig them up as they will regrow.
You can grow vegetables from others you have also. Collect the seeds, The bulb of Celery will also grow roots and you can plant it out. I live in a temperate climate so you will need to do research for your climate.

A lot of herbs come from the Mediterranean so need soil that is well-draining and not very rich, so mix in some horticultural sand with the compost (not builders sand). Herbs hate wet sodden soil, so you need to make some drainage holes in the bottom. Yes, you have that plate with holes, but when it rains the whole fish steamer will fill up with water and the roots will rot.

Ha you 2 over our years of gardening weave found it best to just forget cost get on with the fun which there is plenty . We will leave you to figure it all out by yourselves like we did ,the one bit of advice the best bug killer is you thumb and forefinger. Zero chemicals needed you have the same exterminator as we do in your case canal birds in ours 100 rds. of Crows just drop the warms on the pool deck and were all happy you toss yours in the canal. P S keep a good journal when your in your 80 it helps to look back for info things you have for gotten or will soon forget and you will it just happens Good luck you 2 wishing you 2 all the best of health and long life. if you decide to keep a journal also make a note about the days weather.
