I'm glad to see some comments, people starting to think "I'm not so definitely sitting in the "I want to go camping but too nervous to go on my own"-party anymore. You're a hero. Your DNA should be preserved for the future :-) An excellent video!
Great video Lars! The forest density in this area reminds me of my own forest here, although with less conifers. Excellent job choosing your gear, and in constructing your camp. I love it. That black silky is the biggest I have seen! I did not even know it existed!
Another “AWESOME” video Lars. Your videos inspire me to get out and train more. I tend to spend 2-3 hrs. in the woods after I hunt, brushing up on my bushcraft skills. You’re completely right when saying there’s a difference in bushcraft, and survival skills learned in the military. Your simple, yet effective way of doing things is a pleasure to watch. Looking forward to the next one, and many more to follow. 11B--OUT
Merry Christmas, Lars. Also to Mrs. Survival Russia and the Pink Ninja and the little guy. All the best to you in the coming year, and may we enjoy peace.
Nice camp. At least one garment with a hood, neck gator and 1 or 2 fleece or 1 wool cap is needed for your head to have its own sleep bag. Warm head, hands and feet or you can’t sleep. I use a US GI cold weather pant liner out of same stuff as the poncho liner. Feet stay warmer with extra leg insulation. I invested in a pair of down booties with a foam sole many decades ago. They are priceless for rewarming your feet and for sleep. They weigh nothing, but have a little bulk. Can’t recommend them enough for cold temps. A chair with a foam back and bows for your feet will stop the cold as you face the fire. No need to stand or keep turning around to reward the side that is not facing the fire. Use tough plastic bag for latrine and cat litter and pack it out if the ground is frozen. It’s nasty when folks leave their deposit for others to find in the spring. I always pack a thermos of hot water for winter trips. Liked the vid.
Ha very awesome video. I hope there is a part 2 at least coming. I finally got to see a big siberian fire lit up; sweet. Thanks for the awesome post today, Merry Christmas to you. Sending awesome levels of awesomeness to you and Mrs. Survival Russia, the Pink Ninja, and Survival Russian Jr during this holiday season. Stay warm enjoy life and keep the levels of awesome really high. You can never have too much awesomeness. You enjoy what you do, and that is the real secret of the awesome for those that watch Survival Russia. The world needs more awesome stuff. Silky Saws - hey send this guy an awesome check for being your best brand ambassador on the planet!!!! Seriously I'm going buy Silky Saws to use outdoors from watching this guy use them.
Winter camping is a lot of fun. Ever thought of putting some rocks, about 10-15 pounds near the fire to warm them up and then bring them into the tent when you go to sleep?
I’m glad to have found your channel. Very good information that you provide. I’ve always been a city/suburb boy, but hopefully watching your videos will learn enough to start and get out there. Your home area seems so peaceful and lovely. Thanks for sharing it all with us. Tell the wife and pink troll hello from Nashville, TN. USA. 👋👍
What a beautiful looking forest with all that snow, we did get some ice the last few days but that's it. It was actually in the low 40's here today, so pretty mild. You always have the best gear, military surplus is usually good stuff! That fire looks and sounds awesome, have a nice night my friend. Of course it's like 8am now for you, lol. I wish you and your family a safe and awesome Christmas, and a blessed new year!
As a soft, spoiled American who never spent much time out in the wilds, this video was truly a wonderful treat to watch! Such a beautiful wilderness, and your camera/video-work was so spectacular! It looked so gorgeous out there, I hit the Full-Screen to watch it......JUST AWESOME!!
This vid today, is a true gift from *Отец мороз*! for me Thanks and a 'sto gram'* on you and your family. *a nice birch-vodka btw ^^ oh and...this tripod .... there is one idea that stuck instant in my head.... If you (have and can) put a parachute or similar bigger tarp, mylar-, PE-foil over the tripod; open to the fire to catch all the good heat around your shelter. In case there is a no need, 'cause of propper sleeping bag or what else, nothing to worry. But in some situation this may be one way to get over a extreme frosty night.
-35 here in Yellowknife today. Camp setup looks great. I'd like a Canadian Forces sleep system someday. Would be very nice. Looking forward to part two! Take care.
Merry Christmas and Happy new year. Glad you are liking the Canadian Army sleeping bag. The full system is 4 parts. You have your two down bags, the hood and a liner (some are cotton and others are fleece.). The CF has been issuing the same system since the 70s and the only real change is in recent years they came out with a gortex bivvy bag for it. I talked to a guy here who managed to do just fine in -45 on arctic training. It should get you through that roughest cold Russia has to offer. An interesting point to know is the stuff sack that was issued with it is actually huge for just the sleep system. The reason for that is you keep the stuff you need regularly inside the stuff sack with your sleep system so you don't have to go digging in your rucksack. This was particularly important with the rucksack issued before the 80s because the sleep system used to mount on the frame on top of your rucksack . It is much better for load bearing but makes it incredibly hard to get into the rucksack without taking everything apart.
Beautiful! God Jul and Merry Christmas from warm, sunny Florida! Sending ya'll a little something via PP. All the best to you, Mrs. SR, and the Pink Ninja!
That is a nice camp setup you have and the camera must be great also judging by the quality of the video. That saw you used is looking great and is necessary to cut wood for the fire. I love that you have your fire away from your tent so it won't damage the tent.
Heh, interesting "Mini Teepee" you made with the canvas. Love these videos, always good information and an entertaining presentation. That campsite looks serene, nice. A peaceful Yule to the whole Survival Russia-family! Here's to a healthy and awesome year 2018 for you and yours!
Lars my good friend the shelter looks awesome, much better then the first setup....Yes Cdn. sleep system is great...all the best to you , Mrs. Survival Russia and The Pink Ninja, temperature dropping to mid -30c temps tmrw....(Monday)....Merry Christmas
Merry Christmas Lars... I got a photo I want to show you the biggest Kansas whitetail buck I got... have a Happy New Year! Happy hunting from Kansas USA!
Frohe Weihnachten für Sie und Ihre from Canada it’s -30c here tonight me and my brother in law are going for a over night with a lean to and a Siberian log fire thanks to you
Хо! Привет! С Новым Годом! Я сам только что вернулся после недели на Альхоне. Как-то надо будет приехать к вам. Водка есть отличная! Брат подарил "Сайгу", теперь охота будет - ВО!:-)
Wish I was out in the wild somewhere but instead I'll be cooking steak and chicken on the fire pit on my back patio tonight. I'm still stuck in Florida. Two days before I was supposed to leave for Maine my mom went into the hospital so everything's been delayed. I hope you and your family have a wonderful Christmas and Santa puts lots and lots of BACON under your tree!
Man you have a large investment in Silky saws! They are not cheap and you've got at least 5! I tried one for he first time this last season, it was noticeably easier (and safer) cutting on the pull stroke rather than both or just the push. Solid mechanism too! Noticeably more secure in the blade lock and the hinge. I don't expect to have any issue with it.
Awesome video as always Lars, and merry Christmas to you and your family! I hope y'all have a great day. Oh, and this exoskeleton tripod setup looks like it really makes this tent shine! Looks so much more roomy. I'll look forward to the next video!
Second Part Tomorrow :)
Merry Christmas to you and your family
God Jul Lars, til dig og din skønne familie. :)
Since it's already Christmas day there was Santa Claus generous with the family and did the pink Ninja catch the old elf?
Nice camp.
These videos always cheer me up after a miserable day. I doubt I'll ever be able to be as free as you are, but at least I can watch.
Brrr!! Hope you have a great Christmas!!

Merry Yule Lars, to you and yours. Keep living the life of a free man!
Great video Lars! The forest density in this area reminds me of my own forest here, although with less conifers. Excellent job choosing your gear, and in constructing your camp. I love it. That black silky is the biggest I have seen! I did not even know it existed!

That shelter really worked out good using the tripod to allow it to be raised up from the top center of the canvas.
Merry Christmas to you and your family from Chicago!
