I taught in our survival classes to cut the bottom 1/2 inch off your t shirt leaving the sewn part so it dosnt curl up. Shoes are important. Especially if you are traveling. Without good shoelaces your boots get loose and you get blisters or loose them in mud ect. Yountake that bottom 1/2 inch of your t shirt. Spun up folded in half and spunnagain makes a fantastic bow string. Lasts forever. Its cotton so it will stretch but once you get it stretched it dosnt stretch much after that. You were one of my favorite alone contestants. Love your channel.

I'm really surprised anyone would think we should eat berries the birds eat! In Wisconsin, we call the poisonous berries 'bird berries' and I was wondering recently if that's where the saying "it's for the birds!" comes from to describe something bad or a bad idea! Haha! It also always amazed me they said moss only grows on the north side of a tree because all you have to do is walk in the woods to see that's bull crap. Greg saying maybe that (mossy) branch points north was hilarious! 😹😹😹 Thanks for another great video!
An easy one for me to remember in that regard is super hot chili peppers. Birds (parrots etc) can mainline those peppers because they are immune to capsaicin. You could put the best chili eater in the world against a regular parrot, and the parrot will dominate. This was an easy lesson for me that just because a bird can eat it, doesn't mean I can. :D
The moss part is actually correct from my experience. It has to be a stand-alone tree though. And I imagine it only works for certain climates and areas.

Sir. I was wondering the author of the book u referenced, "the old ways" survival book?. There r a # of dif topics under that headin. Thanks Ken
Mykel Hawke told his wife to drink his piss in the desert because it was THE right thing to do 😢
It was the episode where she vomited and the rescue team had to give her electrolyte water so that she could actually survive.
It could be that he actually meant to call out the book 'The Lost Ways' @@kenstevenson6545
@@kenstevenson6545 maybe he was referring to the book the lost ways?
@@chadchavez4965 thank you 4 the reply. My searches put me that way but it seems if its good, its censored
The world needs more people like you my man! Spreading good info and reminding people to be critical with the info they are given.. might just cost you your life.
I can’t believe how fast you got to your list! Thank you! Extremely refreshing!!!!
Now this is a real source I'd trust all that experience and wit .
Thank you for the video sir .
This is basically saving lives .
God bless ya .
This guy knows what he’s talking about. You can tell he’s got a ton of experience from all the knowledge he’s dropping. Definitely subscribing to this channel.
He has a chance to survive in the wild, but not in civilisation.
Unfortunately this is the exactly the kind of man in a mr ballen story
Currently on Åland Islands, watching a man teach me how to survive in an environment I've never been in, learning about plants I have never seen. The internet is a wonderful thing...
Had to look up aland islands. :)
@@zachd505 yeah most people have never head of it haha
I knew it is somewhere in Scandinavia / Baltic, but I just could not point instantly on the map (unlike the Feroer-islands for example, what I know where are, for example). But when I see the distinctive flag I knew which is the Aland Islands. :)
I'll bet you are surrounded by wild edibles and medicine everyday and have no clue what any of them are.
@@ScotttII yeah im sure. i know little of plants. but i doub't ive got the same plants over here as there are in the mountains on the other side of the world.
This video was extremely well made. Very refresher to have someone who gets straight to the point and doesn't fill in the time with uncessary stuff. Thank you so much.
You were my favorite person on the season of Alone that you did! Never listen to the hate comments. You are the man, period.
Cannot wait. I need more of Greg’s content.
Love that you just dived right into educating and selling anything else. The invitation to comment was genuine and authentic. Not scripted or forced in the slightest. The sales pitch I heard was the need to educate for survival ❤ I hope to continue to learn how to survive in the Rocky Mountains. (I live in the southern region)
Crazy, you've got 825k+ subscribers and I'm just finding your content today. Great stuff, thanks for posting.
Greg
He’s a wealth of knowledge🤍🩵🧡
Me TOO!
Just found him this day, two weeks later. I'm most DEFINATLY SUBBING, too! 🤩
I'm proud of Greg for not losing his way like Fowler its a shame too because Zach use to be just as good
You my friend are the real deal, I’ve watched and learned a lot. Keep up the great work and thanks for the knowledge…
I appreciate you telling everyone to independently verify what you just said. To me that speaks very highly of your intent in being an educator. I've seen hundreds to thousands of hours of YT videos at this point, I don't think I can recall anyone instructing people to do that.
I don't know man, I don't want to drink my piss to fact check his claims.
Can't wait for the video on backpacking essential/emergency gear. Hope we get to go out with Greg in the bush!
The moral of the story is; don't be buried by the berries. This presentation will hopefully save someone's life. Thank you Greg.
Thank you @GregOvens! I loved this video! There are many things that are taught that aren't correct! Please give us more knowledge! You sir are a gentleman and a scholar! Thank you for sharing. And please teach us the edible and medicinal plants! They are hard to learn, but you do a great Job in explaining them.❤
I don't even live in this part of the world, but I appreciate what you're doing here...
This video is why i watch Greg. Everything he does he gives the full story on whether it worked out for him or not. He doesn't just show the successes, highly edited. He gives you a feel for how hard it really is out there and the most practical ways to do things.
Mr. Greg thank you for sharing your valuable knowledge, I'm sending you my positive energy from Cyprus
Thank you for setting the record straight on this stuff, Greg!
We need more of this , maybe a series on medical plants of British Columbia.
I can't believe it took me this long, poking around on UA-cam, to discover your teaching. I love your channel.
Hi Greg, you are one of the best survival trainers on the net.
Highest level of expertise, without airs and graces.
Thanks for the great lessons.
Best regards from Germany
Attila
Man, you’re so cool and nonchalant, I admire the way you live and think and feel the world. Wish I had an uncle like you.
LOVED the Bob Ross cutaway. You both have (had) great mellow personalities. 🏴❤️
I have gone through this my self, the same way as you have.
Bradford Angier and so on. All my life iam 70 now and learning more with the internet every day. I love your and many other channels like yours. Thank you i still love learning all this great stuff. Enjoy the wild ! 🙂
I love this guy and I am glad he has found success on youtube so he can spend as much time as he wants in the bush.
Great video Greg. Well done. It’s refreshing to watch someone with good sense, not someone just looking for clicks.
I was recently thinking if buying a book on edible plants and berries. Didn't realize they could have such major errors! Thanks for sharing your knowledge and insights!
This is even worse now - there are entire AI generated "mushroom harvesting" books on amazon.
I fully recommend the books by Nicole Apelian. She knows her stuff and the books have clear full color pictures.
From my research I’ve found YOU to be one of the best practical survival channels on UA-cam 👍
I think we worked together in construction way back, but great video, I learned some things new.Thanx.
Thanks for setting the record straight on some of these myths. I was always puzzled by the claim that rubbing snow on frostbite would help.
I do wonder where they got that from, I've personally never heard that but then again I live in a quite cold region so myths like that would be proven wrong real fast
Absolutely a real Enciclopedia this man.
I use Survival Cord for my shoe lases, and there have been instances where I have needed to use them in a survival situation. Thanks Greg for letting other people know your skills. It means alot!
God Bless!

UA-cam picked this vid for me, and I am so glad. I am not a "wild food" person, or even much of a camper, but I love vids that really teach me something without a lot of extra conversation. I learned a lot! Great vid. Thanks.
Greg...your repeated invitation to fact-check you is one of the most honest and dependable pieces of advice I've seen on the internet in ages. There are so many self-proclaimed experts around that taking any advice on faith must be done at one's own peril. Thankyou for the sound advice.
Agreed, it also does show a lot of wisdom as one can be wrong at any point in time no matter how much he knows - it just takes recalling the wrong information and desaster may ensue. So encouraging to at least double check on such topics should be absolute standard which it sadly is not.
30 seconds in you already had me!
It takes a higher level person to not want to 'call-out' people who are wrong about things. but at the same time I can also understand the the internet comes with what it unfortunately a massive ego problem in that it won't accept being told it is wrong like a grown up and pay correct knowledge forward.
I just discovered your channel mate and after that 30 seconds I knew to sub.
Thank you for sharing your vast knowledge with us!
All the best from the UK mate :]
We sure did learn something.
Lifesaving stuff as well.
We appreciate you educating people.

Love this type of content, thank you, most people don't realize how much time and effort it takes to teach them valuable information that can actually save your life, just know that there are people that appreciate everything you do,I'm one of them,so thank you again and stay safe out there.
I always learn something, when I watch your videos.
If one is serious about living off the land, these videos hold a wealth of
important information.
👍
I just found you 3 days ago and already learned many things. Thank you.
Thank you for passing this on to us all. I live your show brother. My kids love trying the things you teach
Wow, amazing video! No bullshit, no unecessary small talk and long tangents that lead nowhere, just great content, thank you, earned a new sub!
You are definitely right about the skill of building a fire being the most important. Fire is an extremely important tool to survival and it has more than just one use.
It's nice to see someone encourage people are complacent about their "knowledge". Check every fact you're given, especially if you plan to depend on them.
Speaking truths I appreciate that. Hope your wonderful channel continues to flourish. People in my generation need to know these things
Can’t wait Greg. Right on!
Thank you Oven
The anchor log on your bow drill was YES!
Love your videos . I've noticed alot of UA-cam experts giving bad advice , you show what the plant is and point out it's features clearly
I always carry two lighters because even soaking wet I can make a fire out of them all the time, every time. Awesome info! I'm sure this show will save some ones life! God Bless and thank you from Alaska.
I don’t even like camping anymore but I love this guy. He’s doing it for me. Now, where did I leave my beer?
Beers are at the old camp spot brother, you know the place
This dude made this video set up like OKAY STRAIGHT TO THE Point and I love him for it.
This is a vid you save in your pile of videos for the apocalypse or water wars.
I appreciate your sincereity and dedication to the craft.
Thank you! It’s disheartening to have books out there that have the wrong information on a topic they are writing about.
Hey, I really like your profile picture and if you let me, I would make such an amazing mural out of it! If you don’t mind one of your post could be my inspiring muse for an art project i’m working on for a client. You will totally get paid for it as well as a bonus also get credits.
Nicole Apelian has the BEST books!
@@OrthodoxAtheist I wonder if the parrot feels the pepper on the way out 😳⚠️🌶️😉
My mom told me they are poisonous, and that they are only for birds too! I live in europe tho
The moss part is actually correct from my experience. It has to be a stand-alone tree though. And I imagine it only works for certain climates and areas.
Greg you and Fowler need to make a survival book, about plants all over you've been and survival and pictures and have it published.
Cheers mate, I used to be a bushman many moons ago In Australia, but it's time to brush up and get back out there.
I found your channel and mad respect for not going down that sensationalist style of videos.
no intro, nothing. just starts the video. I dig it
Thanks for sharing this video
Thanks for always being a great teacher Mr. Ovens 👍👍
