      Random Idea, You should talk about any strange things you have witnessed in the wilderness like spooky or Cryptids. I know you have probably seen strange things in the skies.

      Long ago here in Michigan when I was growing up, the license plates for our cars said water Winter Wonderland. So I seen this title and had to watch it. Winter Wonderland... I was away in the military many years also. And home is home no matter where you live on this planet. I always missed the winters. I vowed when I came home I would never leave here again and I have not only briefly. It's nice to see that you love Russia, a place that is actually becoming better in our minds through the kindness of thoughts and actions that you have for your part of the world there in Russia. I wonder often, how many of us Americans have a Russian bloodline and do not even know it from our past. Always enjoy your videos keep up the great work!

    Opening 5 seconds ......... & I'm in love. Roaring fire, single man tent, kit ready, winter forest. WOW. Just a perfect camp.
    Instead, I'm sitting on my sofa, in the cold & wet North of England, wrapped up in a thick blanket, an electric heater on, sipping cough syrup, drinking lemsips cold powders & feeling sick as a dog.
    Thank you for you videos in 2017 (& previous years) Lars. They have been a pleasure to watch.
    All the best to you & your family over this Christmas time & I hope 2018 brings you happiness, good health & fulfilment.
    Mr Wiggysan.

    Lars... I live in a similar climate to you. It is a common misconception that the ground freezes in winter. It will freeze before the snow cover comes, but once the snow cover is on, the geothermal heat thaws the ground out under the insulating snow blanket. That allows the earth to remain "alive" through the winter hibernation. I have gone out into my garden in February and shovelled off 60 cm./two feet of snow to get garden soil to start my seedlings. :-) Mother Nature is AWESOME!!!

    • @SurvivalRussia
      @SurvivalRussia  6 років тому

      I know. I say that in many videos actually :) The things was, that I had cleaned the site from snow a few days earlier. We had very little snow after the cleaning and it was -15C in the morning. I expected the ground to be just a little bit frozen :)

    Catching up on sleep is good for your health Lars, even though the day got away from you, you probably felt incredibly well rested when you got up. Funny, -40c is exactly -40F which is exactly colder than a well digger's ass.

    Lars, keep in mind that 2-3 Soldiers would be sharing that Tent, and every couple of hours one would come in from Sentry Duty or Fire Tending or whatever and wake up someone else. So yes, it's Dark for SOLO Camping. But it didn't matter when Dawn arrived for the Soldiers. Only the Generals got to Sleep in!😉 Happy New Year to you and yours!

      Oh, i forgot about this. You mentioned camping during -40C is not awesome. I have never done this offcourse because i can imagine it is and it doesnt get -40c here. But i would like to suggest building a 'super-shelter' with a sheet of clear plastic in front and heat-reflecting sheet in the back so that the heat will hardly escape your shelter. Maybe you have allready tried it i don't know. Here is a link, but there are many others. I am very curious to see what you think of this concept and maybe you will even make a video and try it out.

    I really like the idea of the separate hood for that Canadian sleeping system. It definitely helps minimize the problem of your exhaled breath moisture from getting in the sleeping bag. Once upon a time I had a tendency to pull my head inside my sleeping bag in the winter. If you are just out for one night, some breath moisture obviously isn't going to cause much of a problem.......but you definitely don't want an iced up bag during an extended trip! Besides, your body gives off enough moisture in the bag as it is.

    • @SurvivalRussia
      @SurvivalRussia  6 років тому +3

      It's a great sleeping system. It's on the heavy side, but that is how it is with most of the durable winter gear.
      A frozen sleeping bag is not great. I tried that with the US MSS.

    We have in total 5 of those (Charintia)Junglebags in my Airsoft-team in use, in combination with the US ore BW (Charintia)Bivy we found it right for down to 10°C with only a tarp over the gang. ^^
    Even one night was down to zero °C but with a poncholiner or fleece-inlay.... and this night was "mostly ok" for all 5 of us, with this set up.
    Best thing is in my opinion: the small weight and packing size versus performance you get for.

    Pyramid tent looks like my John-tent. Do same fold up of the corners to apex, stake mid-edges as corners, and hang from tree limb. Rotating the tent footprint you can lower down 1 corner to the fire, or a corner and 2 sides to the fire. Put tent upwind of the fire for a windshield. 12x12 tarp makes best pyramid this way, although my tyvek 9x9 makes a snug 1 person tent. Only tarp, 4 stakes, cordage to hang apex. Otherwise, like here with quadpod legs, use the metal O ring and S hook on the ring and hang the corner grommets on the S hook. Another set of S hooks can be hung from the O ring and hang the ruck in the apex. Easy easy.

    Your videos have an uncanny ability of making one think "Damn, this is exactly how I should be living", haha. That awesome salted meat would serve well in any food I think. It doesn't have to look like much to be very flavourful I think. Clean new snow and the crackling of a campfire is very nice and soothing.

    The likely reason for the ground being soft is because rapid snowfall and rapid change to cold. Usually if you have a slow start on the winter and then all of a sudden it changes to cold and lots of snow, then the snow insulates the ground from freezing properly for quite some time.

    • @SurvivalRussia
      @SurvivalRussia  6 років тому +1

      The ground here is always soft under the snow, even if there have been frost for some time without snow. The reason I was a bit amazed was, that I cleaned that spot a few days earlier. There had been little snow afterwards and the morning was -15C :)

    Good morning survival russia,
    I follow her from the first video because I think she is a good person and capable in bushcraft.
    I noticed that you did not publish my previous comment, but it's not a problem, no problem. After all, when you go up a level you start to "choose" the most appropriate comments. On the one hand it can also be right and not the blame, on the other, I fall into a myth.
    At the end of the fair, I only asked for the possibility to translate (I'm Italian and I do not know English), that's all.
    That said, keep this confidential comment - of course.
    Happy new year!
    Claudio
    P.S. I have always followed Survival Lilly, but since choosing the comments and has "sold" to the business, not anymore. Do not make the same mistake.
