Random Idea, You should talk about any strange things you have witnessed in the wilderness like spooky or Cryptids. I know you have probably seen strange things in the skies.
Long ago here in Michigan when I was growing up, the license plates for our cars said water Winter Wonderland. So I seen this title and had to watch it. Winter Wonderland... I was away in the military many years also. And home is home no matter where you live on this planet. I always missed the winters. I vowed when I came home I would never leave here again and I have not only briefly. It's nice to see that you love Russia, a place that is actually becoming better in our minds through the kindness of thoughts and actions that you have for your part of the world there in Russia. I wonder often, how many of us Americans have a Russian bloodline and do not even know it from our past. Always enjoy your videos keep up the great work!
Thank you :) As you said in a video, maybe the Log Fire video, "Everyday life can be stressful, but sitting in the woods makes things a bit easier". Something along those lines :)
Opening 5 seconds ......... & I'm in love. Roaring fire, single man tent, kit ready, winter forest. WOW. Just a perfect camp. Instead, I'm sitting on my sofa, in the cold & wet North of England, wrapped up in a thick blanket, an electric heater on, sipping cough syrup, drinking lemsips cold powders & feeling sick as a dog. Thank you for you videos in 2017 (& previous years) Lars. They have been a pleasure to watch. All the best to you & your family over this Christmas time & I hope 2018 brings you happiness, good health & fulfilment. Mr Wiggysan.
At the risk of being politically incorrect, and proud to do so, Merry Christmas to you at Survival Russia. From an avid viewer in the middle of America. I also enjoy the program you're watching on your camp television. Peace.
Oh you daring rebel, you! You dared to say "merry christmas" when no one ever even tried to suggest that you couldn´t or shouldn´t say it! You are so brave. I wish we had more brave heroes like you.
Lars... I live in a similar climate to you. It is a common misconception that the ground freezes in winter. It will freeze before the snow cover comes, but once the snow cover is on, the geothermal heat thaws the ground out under the insulating snow blanket. That allows the earth to remain "alive" through the winter hibernation. I have gone out into my garden in February and shovelled off 60 cm./two feet of snow to get garden soil to start my seedlings. :-) Mother Nature is AWESOME!!!
I know. I say that in many videos actually :) The things was, that I had cleaned the site from snow a few days earlier. We had very little snow after the cleaning and it was -15C in the morning. I expected the ground to be just a little bit frozen :)
My daughter (7yrs old) and I loved both parts of the video. She's itching to camp in the snow and wants to cook on a Siberian log fire :) Brilliant video.
Catching up on sleep is good for your health Lars, even though the day got away from you, you probably felt incredibly well rested when you got up. Funny, -40c is exactly -40F which is exactly colder than a well digger's ass.
1/2 inch already melted here in Tulsa, Oklahoma, Temp 44 F. Mostly cloudy, little ☀️ sun. Have a very MERRY CHRISTMAS 🎄, Mr survival Russia, I love ❤️ your videos and your comments. Keep getting it done ✅ out there in the snow next to your failed Siberian camp 🔥 fire. Ho, Ho, HOOOO.
Merry Christmas Lars and family.God bless ya, you have validated many of my bush techniques and shown me many better practices, as well as made me proud of my Russian linage, we come from tuff stock. Look forward to following you for another year and pray God blesses me with a trip to Siberia before I check out. Stay strong.
Lars, keep in mind that 2-3 Soldiers would be sharing that Tent, and every couple of hours one would come in from Sentry Duty or Fire Tending or whatever and wake up someone else. So yes, it's Dark for SOLO Camping. But it didn't matter when Dawn arrived for the Soldiers. Only the Generals got to Sleep in!😉 Happy New Year to you and yours!
This reminded me of one bivwac at basic training at Fort Dix in February. Went into my shelter half on a very cold night and for some reason it got warm? Climbed out a 02:00 to find over a foot of ❄️snow! Nice and toasty in our new igloo!
good yule Lars! if the shelter was too dark maybe you just needed the sleep...don't feel guilty about it. these holidays are meant to relax and enjoy life and family. best wishes...BTW.. I took my Kenya'n friend hiking today. it was -29*C he loved it.
Hi Lars. Hope you are having a great Holiday. You ca make longer videos my friend. I for one don't mind and i'm sure most of us here enjoy the longer videos of you building and explaining and talking. Thanks for all the good stuff, keep it up.
Oh, i forgot about this. You mentioned camping during -40C is not awesome. I have never done this offcourse because i can imagine it is and it doesnt get -40c here. But i would like to suggest building a 'super-shelter' with a sheet of clear plastic in front and heat-reflecting sheet in the back so that the heat will hardly escape your shelter. Maybe you have allready tried it i don't know. Here is a link, but there are many others. I am very curious to see what you think of this concept and maybe you will even make a video and try it out. ua-cam.com/video/wVJIjpsx5y8/v-deo.html
Brilliant....Just brilliant. You are a better man than me Lars. love the great outdoors videos. Dont know how you manage to do half the things you do is such extreme temperature. Well done buddy
Watching you is the only White Christmas I will get, its 58 F while I write this, and we have about 11 hours of sunlight. Merry Christmas from sunny Arizona USA.
I really like the idea of the separate hood for that Canadian sleeping system. It definitely helps minimize the problem of your exhaled breath moisture from getting in the sleeping bag. Once upon a time I had a tendency to pull my head inside my sleeping bag in the winter. If you are just out for one night, some breath moisture obviously isn't going to cause much of a problem.......but you definitely don't want an iced up bag during an extended trip! Besides, your body gives off enough moisture in the bag as it is.
It's a great sleeping system. It's on the heavy side, but that is how it is with most of the durable winter gear. A frozen sleeping bag is not great. I tried that with the US MSS.
Merry Christmas Lars, I hope you and your family have a wonderful year ahead of you. Thank you for continuing to provide interesting videos for all us subscribers, All the Best Chris (Woodsman Spirit)
WOW!! An overnighter!! That too in the winters!!! While I have watched a lot of winter overnighters on other channels, I doubt whether they really spent their night in the wilderness. But with you, I am sure, hence it was amazing watching you :) I hope you do more overnighters, more so when the real winter sets in Russia !!
Oh you brought back memories of sleeping like the dead in my cozy bag!! Thank God for lamps when you sleep from night to night which really isn't a long time where you live!! Hey what did you get from Santa!!
We have in total 5 of those (Charintia)Junglebags in my Airsoft-team in use, in combination with the US ore BW (Charintia)Bivy we found it right for down to 10°C with only a tarp over the gang. ^^ Even one night was down to zero °C but with a poncholiner or fleece-inlay.... and this night was "mostly ok" for all 5 of us, with this set up. Best thing is in my opinion: the small weight and packing size versus performance you get for. Thank you for your awesome work.
Another awesome video brother, good to see you out enjoying the land. Excellent idea on the tent, plenty of room how you set it up. Have a wonderful week my friend!
Merry Christmas Amazing what staring into the "camp TV" can do for the thought process, like a crystal ball for focusing your thoughts .Looks like a most comfortable camp.
Pyramid tent looks like my John-tent. Do same fold up of the corners to apex, stake mid-edges as corners, and hang from tree limb. Rotating the tent footprint you can lower down 1 corner to the fire, or a corner and 2 sides to the fire. Put tent upwind of the fire for a windshield. 12x12 tarp makes best pyramid this way, although my tyvek 9x9 makes a snug 1 person tent. Only tarp, 4 stakes, cordage to hang apex. Otherwise, like here with quadpod legs, use the metal O ring and S hook on the ring and hang the corner grommets on the S hook. Another set of S hooks can be hung from the O ring and hang the ruck in the apex. Easy easy.
Your videos have an uncanny ability of making one think "Damn, this is exactly how I should be living", haha. That awesome salted meat would serve well in any food I think. It doesn't have to look like much to be very flavourful I think. Clean new snow and the crackling of a campfire is very nice and soothing.
The likely reason for the ground being soft is because rapid snowfall and rapid change to cold. Usually if you have a slow start on the winter and then all of a sudden it changes to cold and lots of snow, then the snow insulates the ground from freezing properly for quite some time.
The ground here is always soft under the snow, even if there have been frost for some time without snow. The reason I was a bit amazed was, that I cleaned that spot a few days earlier. There had been little snow afterwards and the morning was -15C :)
Merry Christmas and a happy new year ! You must have needed the rest being an awsome woodsman takes a lot of energy especially in the cold. I find it amazing that you can bury water and food in snow for 12 plus hours and it dosn't freeze! As always I enjoyed watching,be safe and have fun!
Merry Christmas to you and your family have a great day and God Bless, from Central California. Thanks for such a relaxing video, gotta love that🔥, it's awesome.
Good morning survival russia, I follow her from the first video because I think she is a good person and capable in bushcraft. I noticed that you did not publish my previous comment, but it's not a problem, no problem. After all, when you go up a level you start to "choose" the most appropriate comments. On the one hand it can also be right and not the blame, on the other, I fall into a myth. At the end of the fair, I only asked for the possibility to translate (I'm Italian and I do not know English), that's all. That said, keep this confidential comment - of course. Happy new year! Claudio P.S. I have always followed Survival Lilly, but since choosing the comments and has "sold" to the business, not anymore. Do not make the same mistake.
Show us a better view of the food preparation, and a 360° view from the inside of the tent, next time. Otherwise, nice video. Also, do you think an Arctic camo would be useful this time of year? Warm regards.
wow.. I tried a 3 Plash Palakas tent , real nice and big for 2 guys, all joined at the hood grommet for the peak. forth tarp for ground sheet. Moose hunt Hilton for us.
Great video, Lars! Don't be mad at the Lavvu because it gave you a great night's sleep...:-)...and...I hope you brought that super soup to a sustained, full rolling boil! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! Love it!

Among all this christmas wave of consumerism, there is nothing better than watch a video about survivalism in winter. Thank you Lars.
Happy Healthy 2018!! :)
duuude every time i have a fire i think...this was TV for countless generations, good ol camp tv =)
Enjoyed the video. I have been feeling the need to spend some nights out as well.
Thank you :) As you said in a video, maybe the Log Fire video, "Everyday life can be stressful, but sitting in the woods makes things a bit easier". Something along those lines :)
Glad to have spent the solstice outdoors.

Reminds me of those Miller beer commercials from the 80´s in the States, Miller Time ¨Boys it doesn´t get any better than this.¨
Sometimes it's good to sleep half the day away, that shelter is awesome!!:)
Good video. Thanks for keeping it real and for the tent setup and review.
Superb excursion! Glædelig jul.
Thank you Fred and Happy Healthy 2018 :)

I received a wonderful hat for Christmas. It's very awesome.
this is Christmas .. much better in the woods..

In Switzerland they have this funky piece of gear called a clock. Maybe a good idea while using a dark shelter.
Never tried buckwheat by itself as a hot cereal. Going to have to give this a try. Lars you are the king of campout!
Great looking camp, Lars! And your fire certainly looks warm and inviting! Happy holidays!
Merry Christmas to you and your family , Lars.
Fantastic 2 part video! Keep It up and stay warm!
