Me too. I bought the 55 two days ago (very happy with), but was looking at the 255, local store did not have one. I prefer the transflective display on the 55/255. Garmin may keep this display for the cheaper 55 series for the next model. I think Garmin will phase these displays out, which is a shame.
@@DesFit I agree that's great they kept the 245 because it's still a great one specially at it's current price. However, at that price range I'd rather go for the coros pace 2. Also, great review, I've been following your channel for a while and helped me to decide to go for the 255.
i buy and like the watch; little bit more accurate gps and hr But one big CON: In interval runs, in recovery time i don’t see how much intervals we done(like on 245), for example 8/10; sometimes I am not sure like today, very hot, Z5 running; BUT it is very important to know if you want to give 100% your self in for example last two or last interval
I have a garmin fenix 7x SS. However, i am tempted to buy this watch as well simply because the display is gorgeous and i can use it for my workouts as well!
Fantastic video! I really enjoy all of your videos bc they provide such great and valuable info! I was really hoping I could get away with the 265 (price wise) as opposed to the 965, but I really need that extra battery life for ultras such as 100 milers. But, the maps on the 965 are pretty sweet, so I guess I’ll just suck it up and open up my pocketbook and fork out the 💰 for the 965. 😊
Do you think the FR265 will be getting a golf update? Everything about the FR265 is perfect for the casual runner and fitness junkie, but no golf... And spending $150 more for the golf but then also having the extra features I do not need does not make sense either. Any thoughts? The Venu3 is also great for fitness, but does not have fitness readiness. Why can't they just make a "fitness" watch, and give it all the fitness features, instead of adding bits and pieces to each watch while leaving other things off.
Great video, wonder will this be widely available from retailers in UK, the 255 wasn't most retailers still selling 245. It is quite expensive for what it is.
Hi, I just want to thank you for helping me with buying the right watch. Your reviews have helped me immensely. I just have one question that seems to me no one has talked about: is it possible to track live map movement(while doing activity) on phone but using the gps from watch, so basically like some sort of compensation because 265 doesn't have maps?
Excellent video and great in depth explanations on both watchs. I personally have a rough time staying on pace either over pace or under, does the 265 give a verbal hints for staying on pace?
I have loved both of the videos so far today! And thank you so much for showing the stock watch faces, I am just hoping you can turn off the gradient color feature for each! I just want solid colors! I will know in 5 to 8 weeks when my 965 arrives I guess ha ha
as a forerunner 245 owner, this is EXACTLY what I was hoping for. I guess I’m one of the weird guys that doesn’t like the potato of a display that’s on the 245 lol
Thanks for review. I was very interested with screen possibilities. I love my forerunner 245 and it's screen solution. My husband has amoled screen in his smartwatch and I don't like it at all. I see in what you have shown, that this screen can be used at all time display mode, which is great. Often I have hands busy and I can't twist my wrist to check time. I didn't catch in the review though if brightness of the screen changes automatically in brighter conditions like phones do? Or you sit with one level u till you change it in brighter/dimmer? I wonder if they would ever come back to good old fashioned screens. I personally don't need super effective pixels in watch.
Hi @DesFit! Thanks for a great video! At this point in time, what do you think is a better buy, the Forerunner 265, or the Forerunner 955, especially if one wants to use it for swimming as well? It seems that the 265 has the flashier screen, but the 955 seems to have more features. Thank you for your help! Looking forward to hearing from you!
Thanks for the video, plenty of information. But there's one thing I would have liked: how many data fields can be shown at a time? The answer, taken from DCR's site: 6, both for the 265 and the 265s
Have this made obsolete the Venu series? Or asked in different way - what are the main differences between FR265 and Venu 2 Plus (Other than ECG)? Regarding the comparison with 255, I have it and it happens quite often to forget when I charged it last, that is how good the 2 weeks battery autonomy really is. Considering that the FR255 screen is essentially always on, it seams 5 days are a step back.
The Venu 2 Plus has the speaker and microphone but lacks a lot of the training feedback on the 265. I actually still see an audience for that watch that may not want or need the more advanced sports tracking but still wants good a smartwatch with solid fitness capabilities.
Thanks for the informative video, Des. I’m curious to know how the 255 and 265 fare when tracking heart rate while swimming. I’ve read that wrist based heart rate monitoring can be hit or miss in the pool. Does the higher grade heart rate monitor in the 265 provide more accurate readings while swimming? Knowing this would help me make a decision between these two watches. Thanks!
You answered my most important question: I like how the touchscreen can be disabled during a workout. I would hate for my Garmin to pause during a workout
Hi there! I am considering getting this watch and was wondering if you could clarify something about the music storage. Can I transfer podcasts from any podcast platform I use? For instance, if I download podcasts using Google Podcasts, can I transfer those to the watch and listen phone-free on a run? Or does it have to be from Spotify (and do I have to have a Spotify Premium account)? And a follow up question to the music feature is: Can you rewind and fast forward a podcast (like 10 seconds or so) directly from the watch? The answer to these questions would be extremely helpful! Thank you!
Functionality beats aesthetics all day - its the whole reason people get the Garmin watches instead of Apple or Samsung. I feel like with the 265, they have taken a step back with functionality to prioritize aesthetics which is the opposite of what their target audience wants. Poorer battery life, less visibility under sunlight, risk of screen burn-in, decreased screen lifespan.
as a 255S user what excites me the most about 265S are better battery life and training readiness feature. other than that... nah i'm happy with 255S for now
Would like to know about the build quality. Seems like a lot of reviewers tell us all the features (which we can read on the website) but how nice is the watch?
I have had the Epix 2 Sapphire for over a year now and have started to realise I never use the maps function, as I rarely run trails and when I do not normally where I would need directions and I don't play golf, but love the AMOLED screen looking at the other Garmin watches out there it seems to me the larger 265 would suffice, for the main sports I would need, namely running, cycling and strength training. Am I missing anything obvious, I have looked at the comparisons and can't see any glaring must haves?
I’m wondering the same. I am considering the forerunner 265, the Epix pro, or the Fenix pro. Unless I missed something, the only things I wouldn’t have with a 265 would be the mapping that you mentioned, the flashlight, the better heart rate sensor, and the more durable materials.
Great video Des! Will the 255 also be getting running dynamics other than running power? The cyrstal clear one is ther will be no training readiness for 255, right?
What would you recommend for someone who mostly rides mountain and gravel and wants the hrv balance and training readiness. Also need the device to work with the varia radar and I don't really want multiple devices. Thanks, love the thorough reviews!
Thanks so much for the review!!! I've heard a lot of people complaining about Bluetooth connectivity issues when the GPS is on with the Forerunner 255s, does the 265s have the same issue?
Thanks for the review! The TRUE battery life I care about is All-Systems GNSS + Multi-Band + Always On display. Do you have estimated figure in this setting?
The big question is what is important to you? Good (mostly outdoors) readability and battery life, or an eye-catching display? For me it's the former, so I wouldn't consider switching from 255 Music.
@@elmarflat728 I think most people agree that LED screen looks better than MIPS. As a full marathon runner, 265's battery is good enough for me. I don't do long hikes or triathlon.
Is this a decent watch for ultra runners? Looks like the battery may lack if race is over 24 hours. Trying to buy with the future in mind. I have a 70 mile run coming up this year with hopefully a 100 mile race next year.
Instead of gesture or always on mode do they have a mode where you have to physically click button or tap screen to wake? I have my Apple Watch set up like this and really like it!
I don't know if I missed it in your review but the 265 has 8gb of internal storage vs 4gb for the 255. My 265s has just shipped from the UK. I can't wait. Thanks for the review.
Hi Des. Thank You.I have the 955 and have been testing a 265 the past 4 days. My main issue to date is legibility during activities. During activities I find that the AOD itself is not bright enough and the gesture is not sensitive enough thus in has to turn ones arm further to activate the brighter display which is then visible. This means it is not as easy to glance at information during activities as with the MIP display.Did you have a similar experience at all?
I'm looking to buy either the 955 or the 265. Since you've used both, which do you prefer? Your comment above sounds as if the 265 display could be an issue outdoors in the sun.
@@slimpickens8589 Hi Tim. It's a challenging decision. The 955 does have better navigation features. If I had to decide today, I would take the 955 over the 265 for the following reasons: Starva/ Garmin Live segments on 955 , Maps on 955, Much better activity screen visibility at a glance in sunlight on the 955. Sure the 265 has a nice bright Amoled screen, but for day to day use the 955 screen never struck me as being an issue. I find with the amoled screen (also on the Epix that I borrowed for a run. while ago) is less visible taking quick glances in the sunlight , its as if one has to move the arm more and then concentrate better to see the information. The sensitivity of the glance movement cannot be adjusted (at this stage). The fact that the screen on the 265 (and I believe the 965) are slightly curved at the edges (unlike the Epix) the glare is even more noticeable. After testing the 265 I went back to the 955 and to my eye the ease of seeing activity data was noticeable on the 955. I borrowed a 265 over the weekend and on my Long Run Sunday which was very early and mostly in the day , the display on the 265 was better than in the sunlight. I haven't been able to try a 965 so I am not sure if the different screen size there makes any difference. The 265 is much lighter and more compact though , I could notice that. On the 955 I changed the stock band to one from Amazon (similar to an Apple Nike sport loop) and it made a huge difference to how the watch sat on my arm and the level of comfort especially for sleeping. Good Luck
Thanks so much for the great videos. I am playing a lot of beach volleyball is that someting the watch can track (dont need fancy trackimg) just want to see that i have done a workout and how exhausting the games have been. Thank you
Definitely won't be getting this if the battery is 5 days if I have a longer run then its like 3 to 5 days, and it's just a Expensive version of Galaxy Active without wireless charging.....I have the galaxy active 2, forerunner 255 and enduro.....that constant wrist turning thing is the dumbest thing....when I can't even tell the time with a watch without turning my wrist, which made it impossible when I am at work typing, or holding a cup or cooking pot.....
I’ve been noticing that the elevation data from my 265 is very inaccurate! My old 235 was far more accurate for elevation. It’s really obvious on looped runs where it varies wildly for the same spots on each loop! Not sure what to do about it.

@@zeniktorres4320I wonder whether the altimeter makes a difference between the 55 and 255.
i buy and like the watch; little bit more accurate gps and hr
But one big CON:
In interval runs, in recovery time i don’t see how much intervals we done(like on 245), for example 8/10; sometimes I am not sure like today, very hot, Z5 running; BUT it is very important to know if you want to give 100% your self in for example last two or last interval
I have a garmin fenix 7x SS. However, i am tempted to buy this watch as well simply because the display is gorgeous and i can use it for my workouts as well!
нефиг на феникс 7х ставить амулед экран. покупайте себе эпикс 2 и радуйтесь. не лезьте на фениксы
Excellent, super thorough review.
Thanks!
I bought the 265 based on this review as an upgrade from my old 235. I have it 4 weeks now and I love it!!
My Vivoactive 4s just went bad and I'm thinking to invest in the 265s.... I think this video just fully convinced me to take that "huge investment"
Check out the new Forerunner 165...that could also work! ua-cam.com/video/Nd8uaIYQ7yU/v-deo.htmlsi=lvb3x_S4d9RWjXMk
@@DesFit thank you...
I just ordered it a few minutes ago. It helped watching the video from yourself and DC rain maker ✌🏾
The winning combo 😃 Thanks!
Nice!! Waiting for Instinct 3 :D
I like it! That's awesome of you! This video is very informal
Do they have a fitness mode for "running/ jogging with stroller?" That's a whole different ball game, curious if they've added that for parents.
It's time for discount for the 255
Fantastic video!
Thanks and enjoy your new watch!
Hugely informative. It’s quite a jump compared to the 255 and massive compared to the 245 which came out 2017?
This watch seems so overwhelming 😂
Im a beginner in the fitness world so im going to use a FitBit for now until I progress to Garmin-level😂😂
Great video, wonder will this be widely available from retailers in UK, the 255 wasn't most retailers still selling 245. It is quite expensive for what it is.
Great video Des. I am seriously considering this one.
Thanks!
me too…
Hi, I just want to thank you for helping me with buying the right watch.
Most of the watch faces have gradients for the color options but some of the options are a bit more subtle. Thanks FGH!
@@DesFit thanks Des! Now get back to work on all the other videos I know you're working on around these new releases! Haha
Coffee. Send. More. Coffee.
@@DesFit bahahaha - I bet!
as a forerunner 245 owner, this is EXACTLY what I was hoping for.
Oh well, it's gonna be hard choice between 265 and 965, but I have very small wrist, so I think I will have to go with 265
Great review. Question: can you set your primary watch face to have heart rate displayed, so you can look at your heart rate without pushing anything?
Thanks!
Did you check Garmin swim?
You answered my most important question: I like how the touchscreen can be disabled during a workout. I would hate for my Garmin to pause during a workout
The only way to pause a workout is using the upper left hand button so there’s no worry with that with the touchscreen 👍
I will keep my 255
Thank you!
Nice video. Think I’ll return my 955 and get the 265
Great review. How good is GPS accuracy for both open water and pool swimming?
you're a legend
Thanks! 🙌
I ordered mine! 😅. I have the 955, Enduro 2, and Apple Watch ultra. I use all of them! Great review always.
Great review.
Thanks!
MIP for life.
Great review, did you have experience with stryd?
Not a fan of the big RUN decal on the button
Genuinely debating colouring mine in with a sharpie or something 😂
265 is only about PHP 7000 more than the 255 Regular here in the Philippines.
These watch faces are nice. I want something like that on my apple watch
I currently have a Garmin 245. How would the new Garmin 265 compare to a new Apple Watch?
Great video Des! Will the 255 also be getting running dynamics other than running power? The cyrstal clear one is ther will be no training readiness for 255, right?
Yoo can you do the evolution of forerunner series
What would you recommend for someone who mostly rides mountain and gravel and wants the hrv balance and training readiness. Also need the device to work with the varia radar and I don't really want multiple devices. Thanks, love the thorough reviews!
Hi Des, great content. Can you let me know if there will be a watch similar to this Garmin 265 from Polar anytime soon?
Thanks so much for the review!!! I've heard a lot of people complaining about Bluetooth connectivity issues when the GPS is on with the Forerunner 255s, does the 265s have the same issue?
Haven't had any issues with it. Thanks!
What is the main difference between 265 and 965? Is it worth buying 965 if I don't need maps?
Des: How many video do you want in a day?
Me: yes
And more in the works!
Thanks for the review! The TRUE battery life I care about is All-Systems GNSS + Multi-Band + Always On display. Do you have estimated figure in this setting?
That’s what I showed in the video as my real-world outdoor battery life test 👍
@@DesFit Got it. Exceeding the spec seems too good to be true? Anyway, I am happy with 10 hours in this mode. Thx!
I’d more say that Garmin is conservative with their battery life claims since use cases may vary.
Adding ‘RUN’ on button was not necessary.
😂 I’m glad I was not the only one who noticed that.
Lmfao!!! 🤣
Hey everybody!!!!! he’s wearing a fitness watch!!!!!
I like it loo
How else can I make my avatar run?
My ideal combination would be a Fenix 7X Sapphire Solar in 51mm with an AMOLED display. Hopefully the Fenix 8 will have that.
isn't the epix virtually a Fenix with an amoled display?
This video was released before the 51 mm Epix Pro came out which is essentially a Fenix 7X but with the new generation sensor as well as a flashlight.
Is this a decent watch for ultra runners? Looks like the battery may lack if race is over 24 hours. Trying to buy with the future in mind. I have a 70 mile run coming up this year with hopefully a 100 mile race next year.
Great review, as always. I have a question about "sleep mode": does this device have a sleep mode to avoid turn on display while sleeping?
Yup! It has sleep mode for the display
I noticed for an extra $100, u can go with forerunner 965. Might as well for the small price diff.
No, 150
@@jimjimplus no, $100. $499 for the 265, and $599 for 965
Instead of gesture or always on mode do they have a mode where you have to physically click button or tap screen to wake?
Good Luck
How is the 265 pulse sensor in terms of swimming? I am thinking about switching from my Swim 2. Would be great to get an info on that. Thx!
Hi looking to purchase my first smart watch and I really like this 265 but how is for swimming? Have you heard any issues (water damage , bad data)
Thanks so much for the great videos. I am playing a lot of beach volleyball is that someting the watch can track (dont need fancy trackimg) just want to see that i have done a workout and how exhausting the games have been. Thank you
Does the 265 have the lactate threshold measurement. According to the Garmin website the 255 doesn’t so have they added it to the 265?
Odd, the elevation seems to be recorded very accurately on my 255. I checked it ascending a tower, whose height I knew.
Was thinking to buy venu 2/2s for amoled but didn't coz i wanted training status and features so went for 255s n Using it from 3 months .. and just 2 days back order fenix 6 pro solar as being old premium model currently on crazy discounts say around 40..45% off . Now seeing this new 265 feeling confused which watch should i keep .. should i return fenix 6 or should I sale 255 n buy 265.. coz amoled is the screen i wanted in first place with all training features ( epix gen 2 was out of budget 😪) n now m feeling stupid what to do
Hi, I'm looking for a new garmin. While I decided to buy the forerunner 745 this morning, I heard that this model is out. Which one do you think I should choose? Thanks.
If you’re looking at the 745 in regards to features, the 245 or 265 would be the closest match. The 956/965 mainly add a maps and a few more subtle features.
