@@kenjude1 That sadly is the truth about Garmin. Garmin hardly sells hardware. They sell software features - useful or not - bundled with new hardware. Congratulations for your depht review, i have a question for you: do you think Is a good idea ti replace my Swim 2 with the new Forerunner 255 especially for Openwater swimming? Thanks a lot. Best regards
Hi, I am thinking of switching from Garmin Vivoactive 4 to Forerunner 255/955, but I have concerns about the possibility of using all the functions related to the training status and measurement of effectiveness. Therefore, I am asking for your support in this regard. Until now, I have not used the Vivoactive 4 to record my runs. I will also add that I do not have a power meter in the bike. I have used the Vivoactive 4 watch for swimming, cycling (without a power meter), hiking and fitness. I'm not a runner - I don't like it. However, I want to receive more statistics provided by the new Forerunner 255/955 models: it is about measuring performance and training status (e.g. stamina, performance measurement, training status, load, training readiness, rest time, body battery, acclimatisation, etc.). I read in the manual that this data depends on the VO2 MAX. In the new models, you can independently perform the VO2 MAX test (on request) with running or cycling (with a power meter is required). However, in Vivoactive only the march was enough to make estimation; there was no need to run. Can the new forerunners also estimate VO2 max from walking? In addition, I read on Garmin's website support ("What Is VO2 Max Estimate and How Does It Work?) that if VO2 Max is not estimated from running or cycling with a power meter, VO2 max can be estimated from walking (as in VIVOACTIVE 4) or from all day heart rate. Have checked if this also apply to the forerunner 255/955 watches? I did not see any writings of this in the manuals. After two weeks of only swimming (no running, no cycling, no walking), will my VO2 max be estimated from heart rate? Will this value be taken into account for statistics related to the measurement of effectiveness and training status?
Also have the same questions. Currently looking for my first Garmin and can’t decide to buy a way cheaper Vivoactive4S or the more advanced Forerunner 255S. What do you guys think?
Yeah from what he said it sounded like only the Garmin devices are supported, but I’d love to get clarity on that. If it does only work with Garmin’s pod and run strap that a pretty rubbish Shimano style move from Garmin!
In this video you mention that " VO 2 max for cycling needs does need a power meter " What do you mean by that? I have trouble with this function and Garmin Support can't offer me a clear explanation so far. Because I don't have a VO2 max for cycling my watch doesn't offer me daily suggestions for cycling. I would love to have daily suggestions for cycling....
FR 245 is deeply Discounted compared to 255. Wonder if it’s worth spending an extra $150 for the 255. Currently using a 10 year old garmin that’s finally dying on me.
hi everyone. Need an advice: my fenix5s needs a head unit replacement. for my activities, my fenix is still good enough. Just wondering if is relevant to spend some money to repair a watch of 7 year old when with double cost i can get a brand new 255. What do you think about that?
What is going on on battery life between the various models? Is (say) the difference between (say) the GPS only time between the bigger 255, the (non solar) 955 and the mis size Fenix 7 only dictated by small differences in case size or is Garmin artificially hobbling the lower price points to make battery life a premium feature? This will, as you have frequently pointed out, be irrelevant to almost everyone save a tiny minority of ultra folk but is hugely frustrating for those in the latter category who don’t want the weight or price of the premium casing…..

Is this watch worth it in 2024? I read watches only get 2 years worth of security updates. I like the 265 but i dont want to spend too much on a watch ill be replacing every 2 years. I currently have the instinct solar and looking for an upgrade.
If you’re worried about updates, Coros is your path. I have the 3, I chose it over the 265. Coros still updates their very oldest watches.
I wish more watches added some basic scuba diving / freediving features. Like how deep, how long, and how much rest time going up... 🙏
They want us to buy the Garmin Descent :/
your eyes must still be good to see the data on a "small" watch. they have the decent line for diving
Might be time to upgrade my FR225!
lol..255 dude not 225
@@areyen7849 no I do mean 225.
Hm... after all these additions I wonder if there will be any room left for a red 755. But I guess we will see it after your 955 videos 🙂
What about a comparison between the 255 and the 745 since it appears to be very similar in features and price? Thanks in advance!!
Subscribe, I just wanna know, in my country fr255 and 945 are now in the same price, what would you pick?
I know 945 was your favourite for 2021
Thanks for replying
Thanks for the review. I currently have a 945. Will I see an improvement in features with this watch or am I better of keeping the 945? Keep up the good work!!
Looks good but now I wonder when I’ll see all these new race and running training widgets on Fenix 7 etc :(
Do you see segments from Strava on this watch?
Congratulations for your depht review, i have a question for you: do you think Is a good idea ti replace my Swim 2 with the new Forerunner 255 especially for Openwater swimming? Thanks a lot. Best regards
Would you recommend this watch over a Fenix 6, given it's new features and multi band?
Been wondering the same question. Do you by any chance got the answer on this one?
Also have the same questions. Currently looking for my first Garmin and can’t decide to buy a way cheaper Vivoactive4S or the more advanced Forerunner 255S. What do you guys think?
@@ardiancandraputra2559 still anyone has not replyed
Thanks, this is great! What Garmin model is best for you?
I don't care for activity. What watch should I look for to get polished notification functionality and always on MIP display with >2wh battery life?
Wait. So it has multisport support and Garmin pay?! Why the heck would I buy the 955?
Thank you very much for the very nice review!!
If I understood right the 255 must be a better watch than the 945?
More accurate and advanced right?
Would you say this a better than the coros pacer 2? I am looking for a new watch
Thanks for the review. Does the watch seem faster/snappier than the 245? Thanks
Will native running power data fields support STRYD? Or only Garmin power meters?
Yeah from what he said it sounded like only the Garmin devices are supported, but I’d love to get clarity on that. If it does only work with Garmin’s pod and run strap that a pretty rubbish Shimano style move from Garmin!
In this video you mention that " VO 2 max for cycling needs does need a power meter " What do you mean by that? I have trouble with this function and Garmin Support can't offer me a clear explanation so far. Because I don't have a VO2 max for cycling my watch doesn't offer me daily suggestions for cycling. I would love to have daily suggestions for cycling....
If now fenix 6 is for £299 and same 745 is it better to choose 255 for £399 or better is buy fenix6?
What size of the forerunner 255 would you choose. The 255 or the smaller 255s?
Just a quick question. So, the Instinct 2 will have the exact same training load metrics (plus HRV) as the forerunner 255, right?
Great review as usual.
Would love to know exactly what you're missing out on going for the 255 vs the 955. Doesn't seem like much (touch screen aside).
@@Jay151 255 has routing, just no built in maps.
Can you perform a lactate threshold guided workout with a chest strap on the 255? (It wasn’t possible on the 245)
FR 245 is deeply
Discounted compared to 255. Wonder if it’s worth spending an extra $150 for the 255. Currently using a 10 year old garmin that’s finally dying on me.
Was thinking of going for a coros pace 3 but this feels like the better choice. Great video
Hey there! Nice video! If you had to opt between Suunto 5 and FR 245, which one would you get and why ? Thanks in advance!
What are these like to swim with? They look pretty bulky. I think it would feel annoying.
Seems like both version gets a downgrade in screen area compared to the 245 (active screen diameter / clock diameter). Is this the case?
hi everyone. Need an advice: my fenix5s needs a head unit replacement. for my activities, my fenix is still good enough. Just wondering if is relevant to spend some money to repair a watch of 7 year old when with double cost i can get a brand new 255. What do you think about that?
At 11:10 you said power meter is required for cycling VO2 Max, did you mean to say HRM? Assuming you don’t need a power meter to calc VO2?
What’s the better watch? The 255 or the instinct 2? Both say 30 hours of gps which is the most I would ever need. Thanks for the help.
Very information video. I am in between choosing 255 and 745 both with same price. Can you suggest
I'd probably go FR255, since it's going to get updates going forward for quite some time. You'll be missing ClimbPro from the FR745 though.
Great job as always 👍
What is going on on battery life between the various models? Is (say) the difference between (say) the GPS only time between the bigger 255, the (non solar) 955 and the mis size Fenix 7 only dictated by small differences in case size or is Garmin artificially hobbling the lower price points to make battery life a premium feature? This will, as you have frequently pointed out, be irrelevant to almost everyone save a tiny minority of ultra folk but is hugely frustrating for those in the latter category who don’t want the weight or price of the premium casing…..
Hi can anyone tell me what hrv and vow means please? Great video but I am new to smart watches and didn't understand this. Also what does multi and GPS mean please? Thank you for an excellent video..Natalie 😁
Seriously looking at a garmin watch , but still struggling to pick one. Main interest are cycling (road, gravel & MTB)
do you think they will keep the 745 now that this is a multisport watch? should we expect an update for that too?
Where can you buy the 255? I don’t see it at REI, Best Buy, Cabela’s - anywhere. I want to see it in person before dropping $400.
Does the multiband GPS improve real time speed accuracy/responsiveness?
Only GPS gives 36 hours, All system 8 Hours. what about automatic nav selection? how long does it lasts?
Would you put the FR255 over the Fenix 6xpro which is the same price.
Hey, awesome review. Do you know (of course you do) what music systems the 255 music can use? I see spotify and amazon music, but what else?
Daily suggestions are only for running? What about for cycling?
Would like to configure watch via iPhone but can't find where on the iPhone I can do so. Any help is appreciated.
