It was Vince Gill's brother that passed away. His version is very powerful, but from a very personal place. I actually like Home Free's version better, but either one will hit you squarely in the "feels." Thank you for sharing.
I am 100% in agreement with your impression of Rob. His voice is not only pure and beautiful, but he seems like the guy everyone would want for a brother or best friend. Whether he’s being funny, intense, or tender, he hits me in the feels every time. I love each and every one of them. Austin’s passion, Tim’s unbelievable range and personality, Chance’s rich baritone, and Adam ... there are no words for the scope of his talent. But Rob (and I don’t mean this in a creepy way) I just want to hug like a favorite teddy bear. Not only can he sing, and I mean SING, I would be shocked if he is anything other than the nicest guy and best family man and dad he appears to be.
Nice to see you! . Thanks for doing this reaction for us.. Yeah Rob is exceptional as they all are. Nice to hear his voice more.. he sure can sing!! Stay safe!!
Yes their earlier version was live. This song always makes me think of my Mother, whom I lost in 2009, which bring on the tears. This video, brought up so many more tears. The boys just standing in a field singing their hearts out. Thank you, Ms. D. Please stay safe & stay strong. Much love coming your way. ❤
I loved both versions, but this one hit me really hard. Especially with having so many of my family members in the service, during many different wars. Starting back in WWI all the way to present day. Thanks, D. Loved your reaction.
Phenomenal! This has become one of my favorite songs of all time (both Gill and HF) and I'm a rock & roll guy. Had I not subscribed to you, I would not have known that they had rerecorded it. For that, THANK YOU. Stay well.
D, I'd have to agree -- fits perfectly, the feeling anyway. The story behind.... @Gary Winters is correct, it was Gill's brother who passed (expectantly; had been sick for some time) that inspired Vince to complete or finish the song. The song started as a tribute to Keith Whitley, a rising mega-star in the country music world, who died from alcohol poisoning 3/9/89. Vince and Keith started out in bluegrass music -- which naturally, with their abilities, sound and unique voices lead them to country music. The song originally performed by Vince Gill and "hand picked" choice artists Ricky Skaggs and Patty Loveless!!! Both Ricky and Patty come from bluegrass as well --- many, many country hits by each. If ya wanna know more, you can ask but I'd have to look it up... but nothing says that you can't yourself ----- but I'd do it :) .... LOL and who'd thought Nightwish, huh!?! Be Safe
Comparing the two, this one is richer, as if there were some voiceover tracks., As beautiful as it is, I loved the stark simplicity of the unadorned version from the church. This was clearly filmed back in the fall (evidence Austin's beard), so in keeping with their promise of two music videos a month moving forward, it's a logical release.
They are great, But.... Vince Gills is hard to beat. You need to do the one where Vince Gill is singing at George Jones funeral. Unbelievable emotional.
Hey D. Lynn!!! As usual I loved this reaction! They are always spot-on with how I feel about the songs. I love their version actually better than the original which isn't unusual for me with these guys. Most of their covers make me feel like that. As far as Rob's vocals on this song, and I know considering the song it's not the right way to put it but, Rob KICKS ASS!!! I just can't come up with anything else that would be appropriately descriptive enough. Thank you for everything that you do to keep us entertained during all of this. WE LOVE YOU D. LYNN!!!! :)
That was simply beautiful!! It brought the tears!!!Angelica Hale is now 12 years old and released a piano cover of Stone Cold today on her channel!!! Here is the link if your interested!!!! m.ua-cam.com/video/i3TZXOdr2Fk/v-deo.html
Vince Gill originally began writing the song when one of his best friends country sing Keith Whitley died from alcoholism, but he could not finish it, until his own brother died a few years later in the mid-nineties. It was a tribute to both his friend and brother. Vince sings it beautifully and so emotionally as well.

I like both versions. Gospel Rob makes this particularly powerful. Great analysis.

This video is such an honor to veterans everywhere. It is really well done.
Thanks for the reaction. Please take care off.
I really like this video better then the church session. It brings a real meaning to the song, and tears started to form.
Your "Weekend" would keep me up all night! Beautiful song, beautiful D.

There is something special about Rob's "new" tone. I am convinced Rob's voice is evolving. And he syaryed from very good.
R.I.P.- Kenny, George & all we lost to the virus 😢😢..Stay safe & healthy!💕
Btw, this is beautiful, live...💕
I think this is Vince Gills best song. There harmony's are always spot on.
Thank you for entertaining us during the quarantine! Stay safe beautiful lady. This has certainly been Rob's year and well deserved.
Thanks fgor the reaction, I loved it

Love you as always, stay safe and see you soon.

Vince wrote the first verse to honor his friend Keith Whitley but wrote the second verse when he lost his brother.

Great performance and reaction. Did they ever show Austin actually standing with the group ?? Still feeling sad for Austin and his break up though.
Yes, Austin is in most of the full group shots. Just a couple towards the end that the angle cut him out.
Kleenex, please. I loved the original by Vince and this one has its own special place.
Please react to Chris Stapleton Daddy doesn't pray anymore

I think it was for his son that died
I do not understand how anyone can react to or review music without using headphones. Dollar Store speakers in a phone or tablet just dont cut it.
