Jim Stafford had several hits in the mid 70s. Swamp Witch, Wildwood Weed, Spiders And Snakes and Your Bulldog Drinks Champagne all graced the airwaves along with My Girl Bill.
I love him so much. Got his autograph in person. 😊 I told him I would never forget his version of the Star Spangled Banner. It was when he first came to notice on the Smother's Brothers show. Doing that show, he said, "If i had written the Star Spangled Banner, it would go something like this: He strummed a chord and then hollered "Oh my god we're all gonna die!" He was stunned that I remembered that. 💖💖
Back when music didn't take itself so seriously... Jim Stafford had a range of comical songs. This song is clever. My favourite is Wildwood Weed. I remember buying a K-Tel album for a couple of favourite songs that WW was also on and it eventually became my favourite on that album.
Hi Harri! A Great choice and a very personal one to me. In the early 1980’s I worked with Mr. Stafford. I was already a fan and had his wonderful album on vinyl. I worked at a TV and Film production company and they produced a TV Show called Those Amazing Animals. The three hosts were Priscilla Presley (Elvis’ former wife), Burgess Meredith (Rocky and The Penguin from TV Batman) and Jim Stafford. I was put in charge of the runners who were production assistants on taping day. Before tape day there was a need to pick up Mr. Stafford From LAX airport and bring him home. I grabbed that one. It was in a Sunday early evening, about 5:30pm. I took the company Cadillac home and went to get him the next evening. It was uneventful and I had Mr. Stafford in the car and going home a little after 6pm. In Los Angeles on Sunday night was Dr. Demento on the radio, a show full of crazy and funny songs. He is responsible for bringing fame to Weird Al Yankovic. So I set the mood and Jim was happy and talkative the whole ride home. It was a highlight of my 4 years at the company. That and a film credit getting me into what would be the IMDB. 😊 Great reaction and obviously no surprise to me, just watching you was a joy. PUNCTUATION MATTERS should be the secondary title. Did you notice Jim starting to giggle at the end. And yes he’s a master guitarist. I’m the guy who requested Tori and hope she’s coming up soon but I sit here and anxiously await your reaction. ❤️ Be well and thank you for Jim! Brought back a ton of memories. Joe
From 1974, this was the 3rd of 4, top 40 US hits from his eponymous debut album. The verses are spoken, not sung, lyrics employ a double entendre that suggests romance. In the last verse the twist occurs and he explains the real situation, "(She's), my girl, Bill. Reached Number 12 on the Billboard Hot 100's, Number 7 in Canada and Number 20 in the UK. Jimmy was known for his comical side and this song shows it well. Good fun tune. Great reaction Harri. Thanks Harri and Craig. 👏👏 Cheers from Canada 🇨🇦
My late husband's name was Bill, and we were dating when this song came out. Needless to say, he had this song jokingly sung to him by some of the boys I went to high school with. I'm still your girl, Bill. ❤
Master guitarist, singer and entertainer; he (along with Jerry Reed) brought us some of the funniest and most entertaining hits of the early '70s. I especially like his not-funny-but-eeery hit song from 1973, "Swamp Witch," a perfect tune to keep in mind for next Halloween.
Jim Stafford wrote the scariest song ever called 'Swamp Witch'. As much as I have requested, I've never seen any one react to it, not even for Halloween. You should check it out. It will sends shivers down your spine but you will love it, I promise!
Stafford's songs are pleasantly twisted. " I Don't Like Spiders and Snakes" is another funny one. And there's "Rub It In Rub It In". Give those a listen for a laugh Harri.
You should check out his live version of " Cow Patty" he did on the Smothers Brothers TV show. He is a very creative entertainer. Nothing like that anymore. I miss the old days.
Wow I had forgotten about this guy. When I was a kid he was one of those artists that would turn up as a guest star on a lot of different variety TV shows. I don't remember this particular song though. Funny reaction :) And would you look at the size of that collar! Oh 70's.
I have loved Jim Stafford and his music for most of my life. His humor is on point, but Harri, look up him playing the guitar in Branson, Missouri. He's a great musician! Wildwood Weed was before it's time. He still performs in Branson and he will be 80 this year. Thanks for the reaction!
Thanks for the reaction. Anyone who grew up in the seventies knew this guy and a lot of us loved him. He also was a self taught guitar and fiddle player, and he really could rip: ua-cam.com/video/xdWXo-mMjZk/v-deo.html
This is simply another song that made different genres obsolete in the 1970's. It really didn't matter what radio station I listened to. I was gifted with great songs like this one.
❤❤❤ Try "None Of Us Are Here" (2nd favorite song) and "Swamp Witch". You probably have heard "Spiders And Snakes", but if not it's a good one. My absolute favorite song by him is "Mr. Bojangles, A Visit With An Old Friend".
what a difference punctuation makes! my girl bill or my girl, bill? so clever. jim stafford always adds a touch of humor (sometimes more than a touch) to his songs. something so lacking in today's music. also, as some have said, he's a great guitarist. check out him doing mason williams' "classical gas".
Harri Harri- you need to react to Tracy Chapman "For my Lover." It is an epiphany. -- And if you like that, follow it with "The Promise" by Tracy Chapman. both songs hurt and heal.
Jim Stafford is very comical and entertaining. But, he is also quite an accomplished musician. Most people don’t know that.
I saw him open up for the Smothers Brothers back in the 90s
Saw him in concert and he was great. Played Classical gas...great guitarist.
Yes, he's a remarkable player.
The twinkle in his eyes, the smirk on his face, said it all!
ABSOLUTELY LOVE JIM STAFFORD
Great guitarists and master showman at a concert. He has several other songs like Spiders and Snakes, Cow PATTY,
❤Omg haven't heard this in ages😂😂❤love his music😂❤

I did too in Branson, MO. about 25 years ago. Great, funny performance and friendly in person.)
I remember the song as a child but never paid attention to the lyrics....or I just can't remember. Very clever! I always liked Jim Stafford's music. 😊
Back when music didn't take itself so seriously...

Check out Wildwood Weed
It's amazing what punctuation can do
Jim has a great catalog. ❤
You should listen to the studio version as well!
Needed a comma there.
"Let's eat kids."
"Let's eat, kids."
Punctuation saves lives.
Actually, there would be a comma in either case. I could be wrong!?!😒🙃🤔
Capitalization and punctuation is what separates "Helping your Uncle,Jack, off a horse" and "Helping your Uncle jack off a horse."😉😁
He was married to Bobby Gentry.
It’s about time a reactor discovered Jim Stafford. I echo the other comments. Lots of great songs whether comical or serious.
I don't remember this one. He wrote "Spiders & snakes."
I love Conway Twitty & Loretta Lynns version of it. C & L had so much fun with the song.

Awesome reaction of my favorite song!!!!😊😊😊😊
Please listen to Wildwood weed by Jim Stafford

You’re welcome!
@@craigaust3306it was your choice! Well done and thanks for bringing back memories. See my post! ✅✅✅
Nice! Thanks Craig and Harri 🌺✌️
You’re welcome!
Jim Stafford had 4 top 40 hits off this first album of his which is quite impressive for '74.
Sarcasm at it's finest! Gotta love it.
My late husband's name was Bill, and we were dating when this song came out. Needless to say, he had this song jokingly sung to him by some of the boys I went to high school with. I'm still your girl, Bill. ❤
Beautiful love forever.
I know and like Spiders & Snakes as well as Swamp Witch
I liked the 45 release of this tune
Spiders and Snakes❤my favorite.

Yes! Scariest song ever! I've yet to see a reaction to it from anyone.
When this song first came out way back when and I heard it on the radio, like you, I definitely wondered what was going on - lol. 😊😅
Ha Ha, never heard this before, what a hoot, but my favorite of all time was LOLA.
Thanks Harri
Wildwood weed is his best-although his biggest hit was spiders And Snakes. also had a hit called I got Stoned and I Missed It.
Jim also co-starred on the Love Boat TV series a couple of times as a passenger.

yes it was good and about two friends in love with the same girl
I remember that! Those Staffords were Dukes of Buckinghamshire, and possessors of great libraries. No wonder he is clever and handsome...like you!
I had to look it up to see what you were talking about! 🤣
You should check out his live version of " Cow Patty" he did on the Smothers Brothers TV show. He is a very creative entertainer. Nothing like that anymore. I miss the old days.

Great comical song and entertainer, check out his Wildwood Weed please, great reaction.
This guy is so funny. I watched tim a lot.😊😊😊😊😊😊😊
Always enjoyed This song. Makes you smile 😊

Did you ever react to the Wildwood Weed? If not, you've gotta.
Jim did a lot of funny songs, so waiting for the punchline is something we were used to.
This is simply another song that made different genres obsolete in the 1970's.
It really didn't matter what radio station I listened to. I was gifted with great songs like this one.
Crafty! I love this song!
You must watch Jim Stafford " Wildwood Flowers ""!!!lol
❤❤❤ Try "None Of Us Are Here" (2nd favorite song) and "Swamp Witch". You probably have heard "Spiders And Snakes", but if not it's a good one. My absolute favorite song by him is "Mr. Bojangles, A Visit With An Old Friend".
Not unlike Roy Clark, Jim is a self taught multi-instrumentalist who achieved success in the 1970's and plays in Branson Missouri on a regular basis.
what a difference punctuation makes! my girl bill or my girl, bill? so clever. jim stafford always adds a touch of humor (sometimes more than a touch) to his songs. something so lacking in today's music. also, as some have said, he's a great guitarist. check out him doing mason williams' "classical gas".
My Girl Bill is a clever song by Jim Stafford. A much better song by Jim S. is 'Spiders and Snakes'. Add to your future watch list. Enjoy!
Harri Harri- you need to react to Tracy Chapman "For my Lover." It is an epiphany. -- And if you like that, follow it with "The Promise" by Tracy Chapman. both songs hurt and heal.
He did this song on David Letterman . I bout fell out of my seat .
Listen to "I Don't Like Spiders and Snake" by Jim Stafford.
Here’s a funny my Mom in law was called Bill by my father in law. Her actual name was Willa. My husband called me Bob instead of Bobbie. Weird men
I knew a girl in the 1970s named Billy.
No. The singer is telling Bill she’s his girl and Bill will have to find his own girl. You see, Bill wanted the singer’s girl, but the girl said no.
Way ahead of the times
Punctuation means a lot. lol
A song about the importance of commas.
9 out of 10 people on the internet need to learn to respect the comma. I love the comma kids.
Whoops, I meant to say: I love the comma, kids.
Check his song Big Bad Bruce.
He was almost as handsome as Elvis......almost but no cigar.
