My dad passed 14 years ago tomorrow, he was a WW2 veteran. This song was played at his service. One of the most profound things I ever heard him say, "My 3 brothers and I fought for your right to act like an ass. That don't mean you've gotta do it."
Vince Gill thanked HF for doing this song and told Tim that they need to do this song together at the Opry. The number of original artists that want to collaborate on a song or even ask that HF cover their song is a testament to their talents and their attitudes.
Vince started writing this song for Keith Whitley, but couldn’t finish it. He finished it when his brother died for his funeral. It’s a very sad heartfelt song.
I'm Canadian and believe that if someone can't respect the flag (and laws) of the country in which they're living - leave. Nobody's making such a person stay - go somewhere/anywhere else. I have nothing against someone expressing their opinion but if you have such disrespect for where you're living - just leave. Thank you and all veterans of any country for their service to their nation.
I agree with you that my favorite version is by Vince Gill, but HomeFree did an amazing job on this as well. I come from a big military family as well. Grandpa-WW1 My Dad and his 6 brothers served in WWII. My uncle lost over the sea of Japan MIA. cousins- Korea My brother and brother-in-law Vietnam. My son-in-law 2 tours in Iraq. So yes I can't help but cry no matter who sings it. Loved your reactions and thank you for your service. My dad flew a flag in his yard till the day he died. 🇺🇸🇺🇲🇺🇸🦅🦅
Home Free always does such incredible videos....the quality Is impeccable. Their trademarks are their video quality & those incredible harmonies. I'm gonna request again, their cover of "I can't outrun you" by Trace Adkins, and also their cover of The Driver & also their cover of Paul Cauthen's Everybody walkin' this Land.
I come from a family of military members. My dad (Army Air Corps, WW2, Normandy); cousins (Marines, Desert Storm); cousin (Navy); nephew (Army); youngest daughter (Air Force, Iraq, Afghanistan, Oman, Qatar); and oldest grandson (Air Force, currently serving). I understand your feelings about the disrespect people give our beautiful flag, as it also angers me! I love America and cry whenever I hear a patriotic song. Thank you for your service and for your wonderful reaction to this amazing song.
Such a good rendition and video. Really touching. I don’t think they let brothers serve together anymore since the Sullivan brothers all died on the USS Juneau in WWII. All 5 brothers perished. Just awful.
Others here have told you the story of this song but you should watch the video of Vince Gill and Patty Lovelace singing it at George Jones' funeral. I don't think there's person alive that can watch it without at least getting teary. Thanks for your awesome reactions, especially of Home Free.
I couldn't agree with you more! We are a big military family. My grandpa served in WW1, my dad in the Korean war, my hubby spent 6 years in the Air Force and 23 years in the Ks. Air National Guard, one son-in-law did a tour in Iraq and Afghanistan and our other son-in-law is currently serving in the Ks. Air National Guard.
Another great cover of Home Free. They give it a Home Free twist, but keep the respect for the original. The voice of Rob with so much Soul and Gospel. A voice like velvet with so much emotion. And then that part of Tim where he sings Amazing Grace. The harmonies so perfect. Beautiful and emotional. I'm Dutch but I have such respect for you Americans who honor their flag and country so much. We don't have that here in the Netherlands.
Isn't this gorgeous!? The harmonies hit you straight in your soul. ❤🎶 They did another version of this with them just sitting there singing in a church...no video like this one - look for this title with key words "church sessions"! We played this song at my son's funeral. Brings me tears every time. *sighs* Another song we played that I know you'd really like is Brad Paisley & Dolly Parton "When I Get to Where I'm Going"! It's beautiful, lyrically and vocally. The video is perfect for the song, too. 💕
I actually prefer the church session live video for reactors because it lets them focus on the music. The video is powerful, and shows HF's respect for our military quite well, but as an introduction to their arrangement it is distracting.
I never subscribe but you got mine. You're a good man! Thank you for your service! My nephew just went in to boot camp last month. Comes out March 1. Headed for Space Force as an E3 after some special training. It means more when it's personal. God bless!
The guys did a wonderful job with this song. I have listened to it a lot. My husband, Dad, father-in-law, great grandad and lots of uncles in the military. They were able to return. Thank you so much for your service. Greatly appreciated.
AMEN!! PREACH!! Thank you for your service! Never apologize for how you feel for our country , the flag and what it represents..Keep on Keep on..and more home free please.. check out land of the free and my country tis of thee by home free. Our guys are very patriotic, humble and appreciate their fan base. I llove your reactions to these very multi talented gentlemen.
I am a veteran as well. Here is the secret you don't tell the flag burners. We all know that when I flag becomes unserviceable, it should be destroyed. One method is by burning. So, they are actually without knowing, paying the ultimate respect by doing so. So just laugh and thank them for doing the right thing no matter what they want to say about their politics or protest. Just thank them. You can sit back and know there was no dishonor in what they do. Love and respect.
Thanks for your service. Homefree is AMAZING. I've been to Arlington. Sobering. My son has a music video about to come out about a mother being notified about her son was killed in combat. Jimmy Fortune sings it. My son Anthony Ritthaler wrote it. And a man in Nashville is producing it. It should be ready in about a week if you want to check it out. It's called The Cost of Freedom. He has a you tube channel with his songs on it.
I'm sure you know that Sargent didn't make him and his brother fold the flag every morning!! The director is an idiot?!! The flag goes up every morning. Gets folded every evening!
@@nancyholter5646 that's not what he was saying. And it really doesn't take any practice at all. 9 years, I never saw anyone practice folding the flag.

Rant on... totally agree!!! Rob singing this is amazing and the harmonies are fantastic! 😊
Great reaction. They do this justice, didn't they?

Tissue time. Love your thoughts on the flag! I'm with you!

Thank you for reacting to this beautiful heart wrenching song.I cry every time I hear It and it makes it harder with Amazing Grace added in 😢
I saw Vince perform in Chattanooga, TN several years ago. I got him singing this on video. It's a beautiful song, and Home Free did it masterfully. 🥰🥰
Traveling Soilder, Brothers In Arms!! Rob does an incredible job on this one!! Most patriotic band out there today!! Great bunch of guys

Greg, I want to thank you for your service ! I also agree with you and feel my blood boil when I see someone disrespect our American flag !

Home Free has a CD called "Land Of The Free" Tim wrote the title track, which is very good, you might want to check out their video on it.
I second that request. Tim wrote this song. Its awesome. I love that these guys are so patriotic.
