    There actually is a reason for Archen and Archeops to have an overwhelmingly male gender ratio outside of their Pharaoh elements. Prior to Galar, every Fossil Pokémon shared this trait, and I believe it was for the same reason as Starter Pokémon, that being to make these specific Pokémon more difficult to breed for more members of the species and thus give more impact to the events in which they are gifted to the player over the course of the game. Galar's fossils are gender unknown and in the Undiscovered Egg Group, making them unable to breed at all, but they have their own reasons, including but not limited to them essentially being the Frankenstein's Monster of Fossil Pokémon.

    • @Rafael_Oiticica
      @Rafael_Oiticica 2 роки тому +11

      This is seriously very interesting! But why then GF created Ditto? With Ditto this all goes away (except obviously with Galar's fossils). I myself never bred any starter or fossil with two of the same species just because of that. And to think that GF didn't realize that is sad, because they themselves kinda didn't knew wll about their own game. :/
      I think Ditto can be found in any game (with my memory bringing to me that in Ruby/Sapphire it wasn't), if not, at least in a """""difficult""""" area to access. Well... The more I dive into this the more sad I become with GF. u_u

    • @forgerofsouls9126
      @forgerofsouls9126 2 роки тому +2

      @@jvbon646 Ditto has actually not always been an endgame/postgame Pokemon. So, no, you are not remember correctly. Here is the break down:
      In gen 1, Red and Blue/Green, you could find Ditto on Routes 13, 14, 15, 23, and in the Cerulean Cave. Routes 13, 14, and 15 can be accessed as soon as you got the Pokeflute to wake up the snorlaxes. Which can be obtained shortly after beating the 3rd gym. Which makes it a early-mid game Pokemon in those games.
      In gen 2, Gold and Silver, Ditto can be found on routes 34 and 35. These routes are north and south of Goldenrod City, meaning, you can get a Ditto BEFORE you even get your SECOND BADGE. Thus making Ditto an EARLY GAME Pokemon in Gen 2.
      In Gen 3, You had to obtain Ditto in Emerald, Firered, and Leafgreen. In Firered and Leafgreen, Ditto was found in the same spots as it was found in Red and Blue, with another area added being in the Pokemon Mansion Basement. In Emerald you could catch Ditto in the Desert Underpass, which connected to Route 114, which connected to Fallarbor Town, which connected to 113, to 111, to 112 and Mauville City. Mauville City is the city you fought Watson, who is the THIRD gym leader. Meaning in Gen 3's games, Ditto was an early-mid Pokemon.
      In Gen 4's Diamond and Pearl, Ditto was found on Route 218 with the Pokeradar. Which is indeed a Postgame item. This means that Gen 4 is the FIRST time Ditto is an Endgame/Postgame Pokemon.
      In Gen 5's Black and White, Ditto was found in the Giant Chasm. Which, is an area only accessible after beating the Elite Four. This is the second time Ditto is an Endgame/Postgame Pokemon.
      In Gen 6's X and Y, Ditto was found in both the Pokemon Village and the Friend Safari. Pokemon Village is an End Game area that you reach before the 8th Gym and the Friend Safari is in Kiloude City, which requires you to beat the story first. This is the third time Ditto is an Endgame/Postgame Pokemon.
      In Gen 7's Sun and Moon, Ditto is found on Mount Hokulani, which is on the third Island you visit, and is accessible right from the get go as that is the first stop on that island. Mount Hokulani is more or less a mid game area, thus making Ditto am early-mid game Pokemon form Sun and Moon.
      And in Gen 8's Sword and Shield, Ditto was found in the wild only in the Lake of Outrage. BUT! If you threw in a wishing piece into a certain Max Raid, you have a high chance at spawning in a Ditto Raid as that den's rare raids were always ditto. The area Ditto's max raid den could be found in could be accessed the moment you entered the Wild Areas, as the only thing preventing you from traveling further into the wild area, was the level of the wild Pokemon. And yes, that means you do not need to beat even the 1st gym to catch a Ditto in Sword and Shield, if you are brave that is. But, typically, you'd wait until you'd go that direction normally due to the story progression, which means, you'd normally have the first three gym badges under your belt. But, due to how early you can get Ditto in Sword and Shield, it is technically an Early Game Pokemon.
      That means that Ditto is an Early Game Pokemon in 2 Gens, an Early-Mid Pokemon in 3 Gens, and an Endgame Pokemon in 1 Gen, and a Postgame Pokemon in 2 Gens.
      So, your statement of "Ditto is always an endgame/postgame mon, and usually with low encounter rates iirc" is half wrong. The low encounter rate part is true though.

    Just fyi it seems you have totally misread what "upper" and "lower" in geographical terms means.
    Firstly and foremost, these are terms still used today, unlike you claimed, as seen in examples like Lower Saxony, which is more north that regular Saxony.
    This is because "upper" and "lower" do not refer to north and south, but to elevation. While Lower Saxony is more northern, it has almost a complete lack elevation compared to the other Saxony, hence the naming. One look at a topographic map of Egypt and much the same can be seen.
    Anyway, just wanted to share this cuz as a lower saxonian myself you really confused me lol.

      No idea if there’s any interesting reason in it’s lore or design origin but at least from a mechanical balance perspective it may just be because they really wanted that Easter egg with the 567 stat total correlating to the Dewey Decimal number for Feathered Dinosaurs.
      567 is incredibly high and it’s available not really too far into the game, so Defeatist keeps it in check a bit.
      At the time of gen 5, the only Pokémon with a base stat total higher than Archaeops were legendaries, pseudo legendaries, and Slaking (which obviously has it’s own hindering ability)
      The other fossil Pokémon at the time, including it’s counterpart Carracosta, all only had 495 (or 515 for Aerodactyl) and the next Pokémon even really close to 567 are Arcanine and Volcarona with 555 and 550 respectively, which are both only available post game and lore wise are sorta sub legendary Pokémon anyways
      All that said, it was a bit overkill. It’s stat total was high but that was split pretty evenly amongst both it’s physical and special attack (and speed) so it’s not particularly overwhelming in either stat, and it’s defenses are still fairly low. Defeatist may have made more sense if it had a more dedicated offensive stat rather than being mixed. But I at least see where they were probably coming from when looking at the base stat total, which is probably all they were doing when adding in that Easter egg.

    • @albericponcedeleon2696
      @albericponcedeleon2696 2 роки тому +3

      Technically yes, it is possible that feathered flight evolved independently in two groups. Feather-like integuments had been popping up in different taxa, like the picnofibers (sp?) in pterosaurs, before we got modern feathers in birds. The question really lies in how likely a multiple origin model is based on the evidence that paleontologists have.

Avian dinosaurs were theropods, and most theropods are in that "non-avian" dinosaurs group, so what gives? What's with that VERY specific qualification? Because just saying dinosaurs would be a redundancy if we still include birds in the group. All birds fall into the aforementioned theropod group of dinosaurs. Dinosaurs never went extinct.

    Back then, I thought that Tirtouga evolution line was based on turtles from TMNT as it takes place in NY (which is serves as inspo for Unova) and the reason why it's a fossil mon is because of TMNT comics being old (even looking from year 2010 when PKMN B&W was released, 26 years feels old which it makes this statement more sensible)
    Also it does help that it evolves from quadrupedal turtle to bipedal turtle like TMNT evolved into Mutant Ninja Turtles after being exposed to mutagen.

    Another cool bit of trivia surrounding the disparity between Archen and Archeops' lifestyles that...I doubt Pokemon actually intended, but I still think is cool: It resembles a proposed situation for Deinonychus' development in life!
    Some paleontologists have suggested that, based on some subtle differences in the proportions of juvenile Deinonychus compared to their adult counterparts, the baby Deinonychus appear to have been adapted for an arboreal lifestyle, as opposed to the adults' heavily built, ground-dwelling adaptations. Some even argue that the juvenile Deinonychus may have been capable of limited flight (though this is debatable), which naturally they would lose as they grew older. This is thought to have been a form of niche partitioning, preventing the two growth stages from clashing when they encounter each other.

  • @emilypaleo2021

    For vertebrate paleontologists, turtle evolution is VERY confusing and VERY interesting. There is a lot of hypotheses out there on just where turtles fit on the tree of life, and from my understanding, there is so much debate becausethe fossils we can identify as a "turtle-like" just sort of appeared in the fossil record, and there are few "stepping stone" fossils that can clue us into where they came from. From what I understand, the two major hypotheses for turtle phylogeny is that they are either more closely related to archosaurs (crocs, birds and dinosaurs) then they are to other reptiles like lizards, OR they are outside the group "reptile" all together, in the clade parareptiles. A lot of this has to do with the lack of holes in their skull (outside the typical eye sockets and nostrils), as well as the major question of "where did the shell come from?". Turtles are actually super fascinating from a paleontological perspective!

    • @darkonyx6995
      @darkonyx6995 2 роки тому +2

      Turtles likely lost their other holes with time, convergently with anapsids, and their shells came from their ribs, so, yes they are more likely reptiles that lost their diapsid condition and developed som weird-ass ribs for protection

Since the Nile River flows south to north, the literal lower part of Egypt is north near the Mediterranean Sea. We see similar naming conventions in Low and High German where High German is spoken predominantly by inland people away from the lower elevation lands along the sea. Even then, as stated in the video, these conventions are often outcomes of a time before north/south being common to designate geographical relations.
