This Chain Driven Zenith is a Hyperwatch Bargain

- In 2014, the watchmaker Zenith was busy preparing its 150th anniversary celebration, and what better way to do it than by building a commemorative watch. But Zenith didn’t just take an existing watch and tart it up a bit, oh no. It decided to build a rather insane hyperwatch instead. Here’s what you need to know about it.

This may well be the best value high-horology watch available - and 15 minutes ago, I never knew it even existed.
thanks Andrew!
I'm a mechanical engineer. This watch blew my mind. My first time as well. Jus marvelous.
Low key watch
Next, they will make it run on steam.

The amount of external reference you pile in these never ceases to amaze.

This one is really exceptional!
If a Daytona cost's 39000, this one has to be around one million in comparison.
Stunning. My brother has one of my grandfather's old clocks; a brass enamel faced, chain driven ships clock. My grandfather was a German watch and clock maker. My father trained as a watch and clock maker. As a child, I remember him repairing and building watches. My brother and I adore fine watches. I guess it's in the blood.
Congrats on your experienced …that would be nice…
The little chip in the "E" of ZENITH logo kept making me cringe because everything else from the closeups looked fantastic (especially the polished chain and chain pin ends!). If I spent that much on one, I'd send it back to have the E touched up or repaired cause after seeing it look chipped, it would bother me so much.
What are You talking about? There is not a chiped "E"
@@gerardo9052 check 1:54
And @ 1:36.
Definitely would send it back for a service and get that E sorted out. That anomaly would irritate no end!
This is the 'freckle' on the face of a super model, perfect in every way, but for a single mark of distinction.
This has to rank right up there with some of the best content on this channel. Simply brilliant photography and as usual just the right amount of dry humour. "...as rare as pigeon poop at Trafalgar Square" almost destroyed my PC! Anyone who has been to Trafalgar Square will know right away why I nearly inhaled my complete head, ears, nose and all.
Very trying. Invest in a pen and notepad!
After a few weeks home with sick kids, I’m all for selling the children and upgrading to something significantly more well made!
Lol, yes. Where do I exchange them for this beauty.
This possibility has suddenly, completely, altered my view of the world. 🤯

Try not feeding them dairy(unless mother's milk for infant of course).
No milk no cheese no Joghurt..
Not saying it's a cure for sure but try it
💀
That chip on the E is driving me crazy
Me too, I suspect that’s the reason why the original owner is trying to sell this piece
Dear god I watched the video on 360p because I was outdoors and still noticed that.... imagine that being your watch... I mean handcrafted and all but still.. can't unsee that
I love my Zenith watches but that's a no.
Thanks for mentioning it as a fanboy I might have tried to unsee it... 👌
a chip....welcome to collecting, ya little crap will drive you insane....but.....if you repair it, the watch will lose half its value!!...its called time patina....leave it...people like me love it....time patina or color changes add value to a vintage watch...
Same 😢
The tiny chip on the "E" in Zenith can't be unseen though.
Right, it goes straight to the eye. Or the E ……
I saw it and now I cant stop looking at it.
I would bet you that one call to the Zenith offices, saying that you found this on you watch and they'll rather break their fingers than let you run around with a chipped E
For anyone looking for it, it’s at 1:49. You can also notice some imperfections on the seconds hand. Although it is at high magnification. But I bet the chip in the E is still visible with the naked eye, though.
Yes that watch should be send back to be reworked for 80k. This is not seiko territory.
5:00
Actually, it would be rather amazing if someone made a watch that did change gears on a chain. Hyper miniaturized cassette and derailleur system would be epically epic.
Rollhoff speedhub. Nearly that cool.
Epically epic?
A watch that actually has a valid reason for cutouts on the dial, beautiful piece.
I would be proud to wear this on my wrist. Wonderful.
Here here
Absolutely stunning watch but I can't stop looking at the small blemish on the E in Zenith @1:54. Let's not forget it's an 80K watch, you can't have imperfections on the logo!
Yep, and still there at other locations. I believe it was limited to 150 pieces and you’d assume someone would have examined each with magnification before leaving the factory.
Exactly, going on and on about the perfection of every surface and there is something on the 2nd letter of your brand. It can’t just be dust or something either right? You see it from different angles.
First time I've even seen a modern watch that is chain driven. Last watch I've seen that was chain driven was a 1730's pocket watch. Really enjoyed this one! Brilliant work as usual.
The 45mm is the problem.
45mm is for legs.
How, in the name of God, did they manage to chip the paint on the E in Zenith on the seconds?
Zenith really upped the game with this one!! Well done!!
A genuinely impressive piece. The chain links are amazing. Best video I have seen for a good while.
been enjoying your videos for at least a year and a half now and this is the first watch I’ve truly desired. What a masterpiece. Thanks for the content mate, brings a smile to my face especially when you get a little funny 😄
There is a spot on the "E" on the ZENITH logo, I can't unsee it
love this when it came out and still do. Something about that fusee chain mechanism is hypnotic, a complication in itself. Thanks for showing it 👍
This might be the craziest watch I have ever seen, thank you so much for the opportunity to bring it into mine and many others realms.
I had heard about this watch before and nearly forgot it's existance but thanks to your quality videos, it reminded me that it still exists :)
I absolutely love fusee and chain movements. They are undeniably some of the most beautiful and decadent approaches to timekeeping. However all of the currently existing fusee and chain options are housed in cases that are either too wide, too thick, or both. This is a deal killer for me as one of the basic criteria I look for in a timepiece is comfort and wearability, which is mostly about size and thickness/thinness. I would hope that one day perhaps FP Journe or Bulgari takes up the challenge to create a thin, wearable fusee and chain timepiece.
I could never own this, but I must say, the maintenance on such a fine chain must be one heck of a task even on it's own
An absolute masterpiece. Thank you Watchfinder for showing it.
“Chain driven” or shaft drive...Are we taking about Ducati’s 🏍 or Zenith’s here?
I think I just set my life's expectations a little higher. This is truly one of my favorite timepieces ever. What an inspired masterpiece.
That is one of the coolest watch designs I have seen! Thank you for bringing that to us!
Best narration on UA-cam, if you were an RPG character your speech level would be over 9000!
This thing is amazing! I had the honor to actually hold one of these in my own hands as it was presented to the public back then. I still have the 150 years anniversary goodie box from Zenith!
What came in the goodie bag?
Yeah what came in the bag?
As a watch lover and MTB enthusiast, I appreciate your channel even more with the mention of the SRAM group set.
Possibly the best presentation this year! Well done Mr. talking hands
Wow beautiful. So much to learn, I find these unique drive pieces to be spectacular feats of engineering. Consider me behind, but the spring drive on the Grand Seiko blew my socks off. This is another level.
Damaged "E" in Zenith Logo is something you can't unsee. Shouldn't happen in such watch.
I dont believe that's factory flaw...almost every watch seen on thus channel has significant flaws/service damage.
yes very irritating
I agree, but apart from that it's perfect. "Irritating madness."
Where? I can't see it
@@gerardo9052 Pause at 1.50.
That bit of paint chipped off the E in Zenith would drive me mad.
Every details less the "E" in Zenith... But truly remarkable
Spectacular! Love it, thank you Andrew 👍👍
Zenith are so under-rated price wise which is good for us aficionados. A hundred times better than Rolex for a fraction of the price without all the AD bullshit. 👍👍👍
Yet LVMH package it to be a fashion brand. It has all those colour that splashes all over the place.
@@lipinglin1994 what colour splashes? This watch hasn't any colour apart from the gold used to make it.
@@pauln0371 I am talking about the entire line of watches Zenith makes. Don't get me wrong. Zenith produces great watches. My favorites are their A386 line. However, when you see the entire product line and how LVMH get their hands on the product, it just seems a bit too all over the top.
What a watch, a masterpiece of engineering. I have a ships chronometer working on the same chain torque technique but to shrink it down to this size is just amazing. It would be almost a shame to wear it, but I would love to, no harm in dreaming.
I have two grail watches on my list. I hope to one day get one through Watchfinder because what I've learned through this channel over the years deserves my business.
not everything is flawlessly executed, the chipped off E in ZENITH is hard to unsee.
I'd pay 5k for the blemished model.
@@BlackPhillip666 sure, but look at the E in Zenith at 1:26, not very hyperwatchy, surprised the QC missed it.
@@toobalkain @7:35 the blem could be additive, like a fleck or shaving, rather than a chip or missing font.
Perfection, all right.. Except the obvious flaw in the 'E' in 'Zenith'.. The main logo. 😂
This is only UA-cam channel I go full screen for.
Quite seriously, had I watched this presentation earlier and known this was for sale, I would have bought it.
2:32 lol at 2:03 when I saw the E with a chipped paint spot. Only noticable when you are hyperzoomed on it though.
What a treat to learn about this watch! Thank you, Andrew.
Wow, OMG, absolutely gorgeous, beautiful, fantastic, awsome, insane, mind blowing, a watch with swaps cogs is just crazy man.... I've always had total respect for Zenith they just manufacture great quality watches but this is on another level.... Thank you, thank you so much ZENITH WATCH COMPANY, SANTA PLEASE LEAVE THIS MASTERPIECE UNDER MY TREE 🎅🎄👍
If I had kids, I would sell them for this watch.
I’m interested in this watch. Is it located in Hong Kong by any chance?
I love this watch's technical design, and your video on it is very well done. But a 45mm case? That seems to drive it out of most people's wear range.
Don't bother calling to buy as it's already sold after that sales pitch! Great job Andrew. I'd be ticked off if I actually had the money to buy this gem, and missed out. 😁👍✌
Excellent. That needle found the vein. Most pleasurable.
Simply STUNNING macro photography!
Oh my god that is awesome! Absolutely loving what Zenith has been releasing these past few years. Redemption is within their grasp! haha
Spectacular watch. On par with the mastery of the storyteller to enchant every time. Chapeau.
Outstanding. Both the watch and the story telling. 👋👋👋
Loved this watch since I first learned of it. Lovely feature
The "E' is killing me🧐🧐🧐🧐
Lay off the drugs man.
I can't stop seeing the chip in the "E" of Zenith.
*You failed to mention the most important technical aspect to this movement, and it's stairing you right in the face ! This is what is called a high frequency movement. The escapement beats at twice the normal beat (Tick) frequency, which is 4Hz or four "Ticks" per second. This movement is running at least 8 Hz or 8 "Ticks" per second running rate ! The more beats per second the escapement produces, the higher the accuracy of the movement. Also, with a higher beat rate the greater the friction and the "wear," of the movement. High frequency escapements, when combined with a high quality "Fuse" power delivery train, will produce much fewer variances in running speed !*
This watch is a 5hz watch and beats 36000 times per hour. People often get this wrong, but two pulses of the second hand are one oscillation.
It is high frequency, but not the highest. Breguet do a 10hz model of the type XXII, model. 3880, in which the chrono second hand moves twice as fast to allow you to take advantage of the accuracy. There are even faster ones.
@@loaded2820 Cool :) Do you have any links to these faster beat watches ?
@@markjob6354 there is a guy called Tim from the watchbox who uploads videos every day. He has at least two videos. The model you want to search is Breguet 3880.
@Skratch Rapture yeah, you have a 4 hertz watch. Each oscillation is two steps on the second hand. 4x2x60x60=28,800.
i am so happy to be able to look from close (throught this video) this watch that i always anted to possess! thANK
What a watch ! Is there a bump on the E by the second hand ? I saw it from different angles and I’m pretty sure.
What a beautiful piece to have. How about showing us something from Greubel Forsey?
I am sooooo glad it is 45mm because if it was say, 40mm, I might be plundering my watchbox to trade up...
Absolutely brilliant! I own a El Primero but this watch has me captivated! One of the best looking watches I have seen in many years! Like I said forget Richard Mille, there are tons of much nicer options in the Suisse watch word of wonders!
All it needs is some handle bars and thumb shift at the ready!
I love this watch, and I just found out I live an hour away from their factory which can be visited, I'll take the tour and see what's up!
Referring to the AP RO as pigeon poop at Trafalgar square might have won you the internet!!
Absolutely stunning. I must confess, i like it. Compare to RG Logical one, the Zenith use normal sized hands. I am not so a mini dial lover where the main time can be read. Arnold and Sons use also normal sized hands for their constant force watches. The GP three bridges, so nice, i can look for 30 minutes at it when a picture displayed at a website.
Amazing job Andrew, this is truly a top tier watch.
Zenith is also known for the Zenith Defy Inventor, which is the most accurate mechanical (and non-quartz) watch ever made. A chain is all well and good, but if it is supposed to result in improved accuracy it is only any use if it actually does result in higher accuracy. You didn't even mention the accuracy for this one.
Is that a Pentax 50mm lens on your camera there?
Lots of watches shown on this channel are interesting and appreciated if not affordable to us enthusiasts.... this is my pick for Most Interesting and Appreciated of the year. ''Oh I see you have a tourbillion... well check out my new bicycle drive"... awesome.
Assuming you no longer have the watch, you missed the chance to show the chain in action winding it on camera, or making a timelapse of it unwinding.
Jeeze! Simply astounding! Why was there even one on sale pre-owned? I mean if you were lucky enough to have gotten your hands on one KEEP IT!
"As rare as pigeon poop." Excellent, made my week lol
Fantastic watch! Fantastic review! Just a work of art, for the price of a normal car.
Was that a Zenith E camera at the start? Those things were indestructible. I swear I drove a nail in with one and still shot a roll of 35mm after
5:57 Interesting time to mention the high shine as there seems to be a surprising amount of pitting there (still would almost kill for this watch though)
Wow. What's the thickness, by the way?
Beautiful engineering, styling, and finishing 👌👌👌
Just wow... the finish, the touches... simply... wow.. It may not wow a lot with its name... but the craftsmanship...
Gorgeous piece for sure!
Very unique piece!
Imagine if companies would make a wall clock with this much attention and polish. All we get is stamped plastic gears and plastic frames.
Who doesn't love a bit of kit that punches way above its weight?
“. . .as rare as pigeon poop at Trafalgar Square.” Anyone who could come up with a line such as that has earned my subscription many times over.
I’m a bike builder. This is my dream watch, can’t wait to own one.
Absolutely stunning piece, simply Zeniths best
Just picked up a vintage Zenith 28800 automatic "disco volante" from a vintage dealer. It was - new old stock..so brand new and 45 years old. Absolutely cannot believe the quality of the watch and runs perfectly. I am a fan of Zenith now !
This watch is way, way, way out of my budget!
But I love it!
What a master piece of mechanical engineering!
I'm a citizen fan and have a small collection because I admire their technology and it's within my budget.
This zenith is just something else!👌

God I always love watching these videos but everytime I google the price I realize I will never be able to afford one lol
What´s the accuracy of this watch? i mean, i appreciate the beauty of the constant force mechanism, but what´s the real impact it has, other than visual?
Best video yall did
Love the balance assemblies, like a beating heart. Finally sent my Rolex GMT II for service, after 20 years.
