The skeletonized version already has that vibe. I'm quite sure I've seen something like that in some advertising. One with the mantra "we make luxury affordable by cutting the man in the middle."
I actually like this watch, and I've never liked an AP before. The equally weird thing is that I wouldn't get the skeletonized version. I would have thought that if I had a watch with all these complications that I would want to see all the parts moving. Instead, I find myself preferring the simplicity of the dial version. Nice one, AP!
absolutely agree. Can't believe that I am actually saying this, but I also prefer the non-skeleton version. Gorgeous little thing. Sadly not in my price range, but I can acknowledge beauty.
A magnificent creation of horological mastery. Not exactly price friendly and much more than average pockets could endure but nonetheless a masterpiece.
Thank you for another excellent video. I am fascinated by the amount of precision and creativity needed to produce such a complex mechanical timepiece. I always look forward to your next video. 🥃
A magnificent display of their capabilities by AP. Actually like this version over the RO design. And must say the “extra” paint tin opening complication made me realize I need one desperately.
I have just asked my wife to consider buying it for my birthday in April. She even wrote it down to check it out, bless her. Even if I could afford any of the top three, it would be a Vacheron or a Patek I'm not an AP fan at all, but I quite like this.
8:40 I would guess is to let the saphire vibrate. If you have it against your wrist it would be like trying to play the guitar while pressing all the strings.
Perhaps AP added the lid to protect the sapphire crystal which, as I understand, is extra thin for better gong accoustics. Maybe the thinness makes it less shatterproof. Not sure how it would fall on its back though. At 1.7 million, however, it’s better to be safe than sorry :)
AP really stepped up their game. There are no PP wrist watches that have a minute repeater, tourbillon, perpetual calendar and a chronograph (let alone a split chrono).
@@laszlos4892 that watch does not have a chrono, let alone a split chrono, also no tourbillon, it's also in a gigantic 47mm case and 18mm thick. not really a watch is it anymore?
Every time I get a Royal Oak flash on the internet, I look away! Shielding my peripheral vision with my hand, as if I opened a door just to be surprised by 2 men going at it. It's an eyesore! This grand complication is a beautiful mutant. Like Kate Upton with a double chin. It would've been perfect without the Chronograph. Thank you for your content
So I've just bought an 8k monitor and some of this video was in 8k so I really enjoyed it. The CAD they used to do explode animations is fantastic, so photo realistic. I would never buy a watch like that, but I'm really glad that there are people out there that fund my entertainment in such an interesting way, as if they didn't have 1.7m in change to keep the R&D and manufacturing above water I wouldn't be able to spend a few cents watching it on UA-cam.
Wowzer is all I can say! Technically rich, beautifully engineered and finished perfectly. Would be curious to know how many get sold. Thanks for sharing.
So, they did all this work for years to create the most complicated watch, they fitted a minute repeater and a grand sonnerie whatever, and they couldn't show the year with 4 digit in a perpetual calendar that should not be reset until 2400? How will I know if it is 2023 or 2223???? I am very disappointed!
Can't believe that I am actually saying this, but I prefer the non-skeleton version. Gorgeous little thing. Sadly not in my price range, but I can acknowledge beauty.

@@garyboyle695 At 05:25 I clearly hear "...I think..." They should KNOW. But a watch like that surely gives you bragging rights! In the end, it is just a make-believe thing this whole watches thing. They are on the right side of it: selling and making money.
I love these so much. I just wish the editer would add little notes on some “sorry what?!” So that’s it’s more of a 3 way conversation especially for the UA-cam gang. Could add some variety every once in a while 🤷🏾♂️ anyway I love this shit!
This looks fantastic, at long last I know what to save up my Nectar points up for. Servicing costs would be an interesting one though along with how long it would take, I wonder if it's inclusive to the cost of the watch otherwise at a guess you could probably buy another luxury watch or two for the cost. Also I wonder if they would give you a loan watch while yours in away being serviced. I doubt of my local watchmaker a certain Mr Horace Ology would be able to service it.
Imagine spending 1.7 million on this phenomenal timepiece! Then you experience a problem with a function or function’s, you give to your AP dealer for warranty service! Then AP advises you the warranty isn’t covered, how much would the bill! $10k, 30k, or 100k!😮
It was the least they could do try forgive the customers they have and the damages they do to good taste. Yes they saved the Swiss watch industry in the 70s but it is canceled for having inspired Hublot.

I love the idea of some Crazy Mushroom Farmer & Psychedelics user in the future falling asleep at his mate's place in the city at say 10pm on the 31st of December 2099 after going hard at the Mushrooms and LSD then waking up the next day and seeing on television everyone celebrating it being 2101 and freaking out as he tries to figure out how he just lost a year of time whilst out of his mind.
Hoy! That's the SECOND time that you didn't mention that Jaeger Lecoultre used the sapphire as a speaker, FIRST. In 2014. Andrew, you reviewed that watch 2 or 3 years ago. Patek and AP are simply copiers.:)
Very impressive. But you left out the main function of a watch. Keeping accurate time. 1 second a month? 5? 10......for that kind of money it damn well better be as accurate as a 75 dollar Timex quartz.
this watch in and of itself isn’t that interesting, but with some of the innovations they’ve made, particularly making use of the crown and chrono pushers for setting functions, would be great to build into other models or inspire other brands to try the same at lower price points
it is good, but I don´t like that it has an advert for the Western Digital harddrives on the side, I have decided that just because of that, I will not buy one of these... 😀
I had my debit card out and was just about to click checkout, when I learned how chucky it is. It sits to far off the wrist for my liking. It could have been a costly mistake.
$1.7 milion sounds like a ludicrous price for a watch but if you think about it that probably coverts to just under £1 million, so it all equals out really.
This watch really is a conversation starter, with the conversation being "gimme the watch and nobody will get hurt".
Just think, for $1.7 million you could buy 34 million Invictas. You could own every single model, like, twice over.

Quick set perpetual calendar function! That alone almost is worth the price. 😮 I am particularly impressed by how clean AP kept the dial layout.
It’s pretty cool, kind of. If they release a blue dial version I’ll get it. Or a green.
A blue sunburst dial gradually darkening from the center would look killer.

Cheers to the one dude in 2399 is an expert in archaic mechanics when this walks through his door hoping for a service

Why do no mechanical watches have a daylight savings setting? Hour adder and subractor complications?
Ok but what on earth is that flying man in the promo video at the end?!? Was busy listening and took me a while to realise what I was watching too 😂
Mind blowing craftsmanship and very well described Andrew.
JRR Tolkien once proclaimed that 'cellar door' was the most beautiful phrase in the English language. He was wrong: it's pop-up backhatch.
I'm holding out for the quartz model. It should be thinner.
it's a beast ..... a very expensive one. Big love to the both of you and the show ..the best at describing the romance in watch collecting.
I will take two, but I will need a sizable 99.975% discount.
Very interesting watch. And great for AP to remind itself that they are more than the Royal Oak
I wonder if the back hatch is also there to protect what is fairly thin sapphire crystal on the back of the watch . . .?

I like the Code 1159 line, out of my price range. Should have opened it up more on the caseback.... Nice timepiece..
No rear viewing window? I refuse to get it. If you have to open the back to see it, then its too much trouble.
Jlc reverso did it better tbh. All it's missing is the sonnerie, split second, and secular calendar but adds other functions with better size.

the creme dial with yellow gold is the stuff of legends. Not quite for the common man with this price tag, though...
