When he started to talk about having a constant force to drive the escapement, I was thinking, nah it's already complicated enough with a tourbillion, hacking function, retrograde minutes, 3 separate sub dials and a section of the hour sub dial that pops in and out of view that no way in hell is there a Fusee and Chain. And then I saw the little ⛓️ what a stunning piece of watchmaking.
One of my favorite Lange watches. I just love the sweeping seconds rotating around the tourbillon carriage in such a large diameter and dis/re-appearing dial is just pure genius.
Sorry but not the Height. This is good but not nearly the best in any imaginable way. I say this from the perspective of an engineer I can see all the cost cutting efforts taken to produce a piece such as this and it kinda saddens me they can take advantage of people who know no better what they are looking at.

Just when I think my adoration towards Lange’s are already at its absolute peak, you came and showed this, and make me adore as well as astonished at A Lange & Sohne even more.
This is what I like about A. Lange & Söhne, as well as Porsche for that matter. They are not facing the laws of physic, they're playing with them in a very mechanical, German way.
Love the shot of the tourbillon lit from behind. The finishing of the calibre is typical Lange - in a word, superlative. This is a watch that I can only dream about for now.
I used to sell this brand in a very beautiful environment. I still love the brand forever and I have seen many complications, but this particular one takes my greatest fancy as it is simple and complicated at the same time. It only shows time, no date, no calendar, or moonphase, chronograph, or otherwise 'complicated' but it is so wonderfully retro yet modern with the most accurate start/stop tourbillion there is! KUDOS to the watchmakers! Holy grail watch par excellence.
Love it! Lange and their craftsmanship are truly amazing! 1,000 parts! Stunning! The problem with something so grand, it would be worrisome to wear it! An example needs to be kept safe like a fine work of art. The problem I have as an engineer who loves to work with their hands, is that to me simplicity equals reliability. My fine watches whose name starts with a P, typically have about 130-150 parts with little or no complications. They are not only beautiful but reliable, year after year. Considering the tolerances and precision of such a wondrous piece with 1,000 parts would worry me beyond measure! Bravo!
True car enthusiasts don't buy a Ferrari to leave it in the garage. Beautiful, expensive performance cars were built to be Driven. Exotic cars and exotic watches aren't that much different, even by price. 200,000 Pounds for an Aston Martin, or an A. Lange & Sohne. Same levels of design, engineering, and wizardry. Drive it. Wear it. Enjoy It. If you can afford it, that likely means you earned it. You should always be able to enjoy the fruits of your labours.
There is soooo much to discuss on this watch and it truly is a marvel. I gotta admit the whole lack of constant force thing confused me for a long time in mechanical watches (Hooke sucks sometimes), but I always figured the escapement helped to regulate that force and anything extra would be lost as heat or sound or something like that. Now you got me re-questioning what I know... and now a conical spiral? I assume it narrows at the same rate that energy lost in mainspring weakness, but it confuses me so much that I think I am going to now start buying quartz watches again! Thanks for nothing!! Great video!!
It’s breathtakingly amazing to watch you explain how such beautiful masterpieces work .I 've watched the video delicately for more than an hour to enjoy every second of it because no one does what you do in the way you do it.Thank you for what you’re doing and be well.
Lovely shot from the bottom up into the mechanics of the watch! Any way a brilliant masterpiece of craftsmanship, when I see a Rolex I see just a watch with a name that expresses itself as a status symbol of affordability but not understanding true value than name! Lange & Sohne, is totally opposite of that, to have one demonstrates the pure luxury we have left in our lives and we celebrate time in a Jubilant way.
Me before the Lotto: this is merely an exercise in self-indulgence for the self-absorbed bourgeoisie. Me after winning said Lotto: I’ll take two...I’m worth it.
Absolutely amazing!!! I can't afford this level of Lange, but I'd love to just simply see one or even have it on loan for a day and I'd be happy. Great videos and story telling!! Thanks
Indeed, and if you look on Chrono24, there’s about a hundred blinged out pieces for more money, and some lesser watches as well. I’m not saying this is a great watch value like a corvette is for cars, but it’s certainly a much more impressive piece for the $ IMO, like a Singer Porsche vs whatever special edition Lambo tops their price list these days.
Well, it’s basic supply and demand. If there’s no or little demand for a product it won’t fetch a high premium like Richard Mille, Patek, Audemars and Rolex do by hyping up their watches with marketing making them more desirable. If there’s a lot of demand but very little supply prices will skyrocket.

This is the most impressive and beautiful watch I have ever seen! If only we could have it in non-precious metals an have that level of engineering at a lower price...
Amazing both in design and engineering. Other watches have like Zenith have a fusee as well but this execution looks brilliant. I do have a question though - mechanically, which is better - the fusee or GP’s constant escapement?
I see a lot of so called "Watch Experts" on UA-cam here slagging Lange. They are all Rolex this and that. I'm not a Rolex person. It's mostly hype followed by a decent timepiece. Depending on the day, I might aver that £200,000 is simply too much to spend on a wristwatch. It is beyond the pale for any one person to spend more on a watch than the vast majority of people earn in a year or paid for their home. You've made the comment more than once that a tourbillon is not a complication. Anything above and beyond the telling of time is by definition a watch complication. Going further, some even consider seconds hands a complication, which is logical, since early watches didn't have them. A separate second hand on a subdial is actually easier to make than a centrally mounted one.
