Apologies at the time of recording, I was led to believe the launch model S-Class had Rear Wheel Steering. Currently right now in the UK it's not available but from what I've heard it's coming soon. Check with your local dealership to be sure before ordering!

As always, great presentation Nick! I’m located in the U.S. and I have a 2016 S550 4Matic. I’ve watched more videos than I care to count on the W223. Your presentation along with that of Schmee’s were the first to pique my interest in the new model. If I’m being honest, I’m disappointed in the overall styling of the interior and the exterior reminds me far too much of high-end offerings from Japanese automakers. However, the tech in the car is sensational. I suspect that I’ll still buy one day and love it, but the W223 is the first S-Class that hasn’t left me breathless the moment it was unveiled. Hoping that the mid-model refresh in a few years changes that. Thank you for your assessment and demonstration!

Absolutely excellent video Nick. I particularly liked the editing and dramatic music at the start of the video. This car is way out of my price range but it just shows the very best of Mercedes. I love the new interior and have heard that the next c class will be based on this model so I'm so looking forward to the mercedes range in the near future.

First of all, nice to see a right-hand drive version on video. This is very interesting, lol.
I have my enjoyed my time with this S-Class. It is my one of my favourite models ever. Definitely one of my favourite, if not my favourite, S-Class models ever. It is so clever and comfortable. Truly a flagship model.
Let's talk a bit about the S-Class. I can go on forever, but let's just go through some of my highlights:
(S500)
It is so comfortable and quiet. Definitely the quietest and most comfortable S-Class.
The 4D sound is absolutely amazing. I listened to a couple of songs, mostly from my favourite video game series. Mercedes-Benz's Burmester 3D sound system is already amazing, but the 4D sound takes it to a new level.
The voice assistant is excellent. They have improved on perfection. That is Mercedes-Benz wizardry right there.
There is so much to talk about. So much!
The S-Class will be coming with a plug-in hybrid. The range will be 100KM, and this is reportedly a value you can actually reach in real life. There will not be a hump in the trunk, I believe, due to this new clever platform.
The EQS will have the Hyperscreen, yes, but it is actually an option, not standard. So, the EQS (based on spyshots) seems to have a similar interior to its gasoline sibling.
I can guarantee that many of this S-Class's new innovations and such will be distrusted to other Mercedes-Benz cars in the future. Then, the new S-Class will get a massive update as W224, and will come with even more awesomeness.
The rear-axle steering reduces this car's turning circle by almost two meters. It has the same agility and turning radius of an A-Class hatchback. Yes, it really does, and you will notice while driving how small it is, then be shocked when looking at it. Truly clever.
I would not consider buying this S-Class, I would just flat-out buy it with no hesitation! Great video, Nick.
I know it is an amazing model, definitely my favourite model right now. Can’t wait for the EQS (again another one out of my price range 😅) but it would be good to see!
Interesting stuff about the hybrid, hopefully we get it in the UK, nothing officially confirmed yet though.
I haven’t managed to drive one yet but I’m sure it’s an experience like no other.

Well nothing has been announced by Mercedes-Benz yet, however the C-Class is due a new model launch either this year or next year based on previous launch schedules...we’ll have to keep our eyes peeled!

I was tempted by the new onyx black but without seeing it first - it’s too much of a gamble... i’ve only just seen the demonstrator and couldn’t drive it... car arrived at my local dealer last week and i’ve just been given the registration number!! 10 days to go!

Hi Nick, i have watched many of your videos now on Mercedes and i got to tell you are the best by a mile!!. So well explained on the extras that the dealers don't have the time to explain it all. (5 Star) So my dealer gave me a new S580 for 3 days my god what a car. My GLE63s is only 9 months old however i had to have the S580. Deal done arrives next week however i could not get the 4D only the 3D Hifi. How's the 3D sound to you.?? Got the 4 wheel steer which i think will be nice extra.

I haven’t tried the 4D personally, but it is my dream to have a sound system like the 3D. It is unbelievably good! I’m sure you’ll love it!

Im holding my order for Mercedes Gwagon until this comes to G-class with the Heads up Display.
What a shame for Mercedes for marking up so high price tag for G-class without the latest tech in it.

Hey Soamjena,
Mercedes have over 30 models in their range, ranging from coupes, cabriolets, estates, saloons and even hatchbacks.
Believe it or not, when one gets updated, they all don’t get an update at the same time. The G-Class had a facelift a couple of years ago so technically speaking based on previous launches, there could be something announced within the next year or so.
It’s price isn’t just because it’s a G-Class, this car can travel to many terrains that would leave normal cars stranded. I know a lot people don’t use them to their full potential, but they have 3 locking differentials, can climb almost 45° angles on slopes, the list goes on.
It’s been engineered in such a way that the engine is as close to the front of the car as possible so it’s large mass would keep the car planted even when driving up a slope with a 100% grade incline.
Is it over the top for me if I was considering one? Probably. But it’s not for me because of this. I’ve had very interesting chats with people who genuinely use them to their full potential because of where they live and it’s incredible what it can do all while being a luxury SUV.

Unfortunately no, the UK can only order specification from the brochures. The UK have opted for things called Premium / Premium Plus Packages which incorporate a nice and easy simple way to spec a car up so individual items are not possible. There is no mention of the 4D surround sound system anywhere which leads me to believe it will come out somewhen but not yet. We’ll have to keep our eyes peeled!

The car I hat I had my eyes on was the GT 4 door but this new s class looks really special, however I am really surprised not on by that policy the UK has adapted by the packages, but having items omitted for the items available in the packages is somewhat of an insult to us as buying customers.
Hey Angus, don’t worry many manufacturers do this. Some options on cars aren’t allowed in certain countries due to local laws and regulations, it could be due to availability or even if the market is suitable for a particular feature.
The premium packages I know were designed to make choices easier when selecting and I believe other countries also do this too 🤓
Do you know when mercedes will bring the package with rear TV-s with execute rear sets(with the footrest behing the front passenger seat if you know what I'm talking about :)) on the new s-class?

Sorry I’m not sure, I saw them in the global trailer for the car. However the UK specification does not include them. Dealerships in the UK would usually get a month or two’s heads up if specification changes although I don’t think it will change for a while as it’s only just come out.
Hey Nick, thanks for a great review, love the car. I have a question please. The flush door handles look nice and all, but it seems like Mercedes-Benz has added an additional step to unlocking and opening the door (swipe door handle, grab door handle, pull door handle) as opposed to other keyless go Mercs (grab door handle, pull door handle). To
solve this I heard somewhere that the door handles will pop-out automatically when the car detects you approaching with the key in your pocket. Is that true? Thank you!
Yes absolutely, I was testing this during filming.
So I mention in the video, as you approach the car, the handles will automatically pop out ready to grab. A very neat feature!

I noticed it was about 10 metres away / walking toward the car made them pop out. I only tested this very quickly inside so might be slightly different outside. But yeah a pretty cool neat feature!
Oh great! I know BMW’s range for keyless entry is between 2.5 and 5 meters. If Mercedes-Benz is 10 meters then one can probably adjust it
Hi Nick, I have a 2021 Mercedes S500 4 Matic. As I won't be using it a lot should I keep A CTEK Charger on it on a constant trickle charge. If so could you let me know where to put the cables please. Also can I keep the charger on full time.

I haven’t used a CTEK charger before but I have seen Mercedes do sell their own.
Most trickle chargers are safe to keep on as they will condition the battery (let it drain a little and top it back up automatically).
They’ll be a couple of points under the bonnet, positive and negative are usually on the right hand side when looking at the car.
Hi Nick. Another great video. I have a question which appertains both to the new S Class & my own CLA Shooting Brake. It's regarding the self parking tech which is this. If like me have parking spaces outside my block but for want of a better description is 'resessed' so it's off the road, cars are parked length wide, nose in or boot in. The question is, as I drive horizontally along the spaces, I turn on my parking tech to search for a space & when I see a free one, the car does not, wild you guess this would happen no matter which model, us it because spaces are ressed or does this seem like a fault?
Hi Stuart, the parking tech in all cars basically uses ultrasound which scans spaces as you drive by. Just double check also as I know Parking Assist is not available on new cars as of last year, wasn’t sure if yours was brand new or not.
It will only detect typically big objects but it’s main feature / function is to assist with parking on the road between two cars.
@@npoleary Ah right! My car was registered in March 2020, it has the button marked with a car & camera. If I read your reply correctly, I cannot expect it to assist in a Multi Storey type parking scenario just on street/along kerbside parking? I specified this option as my partner worries about parking the car & not dinging it, being a brand new vehicle, am I correct in what I understand from your reply?
Ah sorry Stuart think I misunderstood you when you said recessed. It can do Bay Parking and Parallel parking but ideally with two cars either side. It can do multi story ones as long as there’s a car either side with a space in the middle :)

@@npoleary hi, sorry, will try to be clearer, imagine you are walking on a pavement at the side of a main road which comes to an end(as though you have come to where a side road meets the main road you are walking along) the parking bays that belong to my block are recessed (so if they were all full, you would be waking along all the fronts or rears of the cars, as if in bay parking in a multi storey) you would then step back up onto the pavement (as if you had crossed a side road) This being the case,if I want to park nose in to a space & try to use, park assist(as ai am driving along the front/rear of parked cars) my park assist does not detect the empty space I can see. I hope this is clearer if not, please tell me how I can clarify.

Sorry Stuart, probably won’t to be honest. It might be too far away as you do have to be quite close to the spaces for your car to detect it.

Hi Nick, I have a quick question: can the rear seat passenger still control the front passenger seat even when there is someone sitting in the front seat? I've always been curious about that. Is there some sort of a lockout to prevent the rear seat passenger from operating the front seat? For instance, if I am using this car as a family car, I certainly wouldn't want the kids to play around with the front seats!

Sadly there’s no way to permanently switch it off, however the rear passengers can only control the front passenger seat. They can’t operate the driver’s one for safety.

So if there's no *permanent* way to disable the front passenger seat controls from the back seat, does that also mean that the rear seat passenger can still control the front passenger seat even when there's someone sitting in it? I would've thought it would make sense for the car to sense that someone is sitting there and not move the seat that far forward that it becomes impossible to sit in.
Hey BF31, Hmmm…I don’t think I’ve tried it with someone sat in the front seat too. There is of course the button underneath the rear window switch on the driver’s door which disables the rear windows (and blinds if fitted). However I can’t recall if that disabled the seat in the rear. From memory I’m sure it still worked like normal.

Just had an update for you. The S-Class currently does not have rear wheel steering so apologies for the confusion as I was lead to believe it did.
However...from what I have heard there is a strong possibility that it will become available soon (possibly even this year!)

Good question! Personally I like the LWB as they’re desirable but...if you need a shorter wheel space for parking at home or in the city then it’s always there as an option.
Also depends if you’re going to be in the back or not I guess! 🤓

This a first for the UK :)
The UK has never had 4MATIC on the S-Class. Specs can vary so much from country to country, I had no idea it even existed elsewhere on the S-Class. The UK has always had rear wheel drive previously.
@@npoleary OMG, the hardships you guys had to suffer. I do forget sometimes that Germany gets all of the options and all of the engines. I remember some American youtuber talking about a C or E class saying there was only two engine types and I'd been on the configurator that day and there was like 10 options.
Does this car or the S class range have parking mode camera to record against vandalism or parked car accidents?

Hi Nick , just took delivery of an S 500, nice car as described in your video,, only one thing that really bugs me, and that is the touch control in the steering wheel, this is so distracting, almost to the point of being dangerous, as it does not always respond to your finger touch, I find myself taking my eyes off the road to try and see why the control is not responding,
Bad move Mercedes, and whoever thought of this system has made a big mistake.

This was in fact due to customer feedback, the previous touch controls were very sensitive so feedback was given to tone them down a bit.
You may be able to adjust the sensitivity in settings though

Sorry mate but this pimpmobile isn’t a luxury car, it’s a boys toy! The instrument panel looks like somebody stuck an I Pad on the steering wheel and the centre screen like a laptop left out! All those flashing trim lights just aren’t cool at this market level! I can imagine it might tempt a few rappers or hip hop stars if you can do an aftermarket suspension jiggle! Mercedes has totally lost their way!
You will definitely say otherwise when you actually experience it in person and drive it. Guaranteed. Kind of rude what you say about rappers and hip-hop stars. What a tired stereotype.
@@ClaireYunFarronXIII Accurate stereotypes never get tired! I’m sure the ride is just great, if you close your eyes and imagine you’re in something else!
Don’t worry if the Ambient Lighting isn’t for you it can be turned down a bit and you can customise the thin strips and thicker strips brightness separately. I did have it on Max brightness to show it off on camera so that isn’t it’s normal setting.
With dashboard design, the S-Class has had double screens for a number of years so I guess a change was inevitable, I really like it though! Definitely my favourite model to date! Sadly I wouldn’t be able to afford one though! 😅
