The New 2021 MERCEDES S CLASS is a Complete TECH FEST!

- The new 2021 Mercedes-Benz S Class is an absolute technology overload! Every new S Class model has always been a pioneer and the new car is even more extraordinary than ever with features like the automated valet parking, augmented reality heads-up display, 10 degree rear wheel steering and exceptional park pilot and so much more. Let's check it out!
Whenever a new Mercedes S Class model arrives on the market, everyone has to take notice as without fail it brings a host of new technologies that we will eventually see filtering down through the range in future. The new car is no different and features a huge number of safety, driving and comfort features never seen before.
From the exterior, a particular highlight is the rear wheel steering up to 10 degrees which both enables it to have an exceptional short turning circle, but also to 'crab' in and out of parking spaces and offer immense maneuverability. It also offers the E Active Body Control suspension for safety systems like a side impact protection that will jump the car up in order to protect the weaker impact points. Naturally a vast level of autonomous driving capability is on offer including the particularly impressive Automated Valet Parking that we can see demonstrated at Stuttgart Airport; where quite literally you can step out and the car will embark to find a parking space in the garage all of its own accord.
Inside the tech continues, the dashboard itself is a 3D display, the new MBUX system offers 5 screens in total for full control and maximum functionality. New for the car comes the gaze control where it knows you are looking to the left or right mirrors as you go to adjust them or will automatically roll down the rear blind when you face backwards. The navigation system integrates a brilliant system for augmented reality both on the cameras brought up in the central screen and in particular on the gigantic heads-up display to give you a full visual reference of the direction to take.
With plenty of time to demonstrate the features, let's explore the new S Class in full details, firstly with the S500 before moving to the S580 as well.
Thanks for watching, Tim

A new S Class is a big deal, and the tech fest of the latest generation is beyond words! What's your favourite feature that's been introduced for the new model?
The new 🔑
#Shmee150 I like the augmented reality navigation, the large-angle rear wheel steering (from ZF I think). I am glad there is a V8 option for the regular versions (non-AMG / non-Maybach). In the future I think there will be some impressive AMG models S63 AMG and the hybrid S73 AMG and maybe even the good old 36 valve twin-turbo V12 as an Maybach exclusive version.
Thanks for the review and the content, best of luck for the future.
The grill
Incredible Shmee! Autonomous driving is the future and Mercedes-Benz is actually doing it better here than Tesla. Top tech features of any sedan worldwide.
Hi SHMEE..
2021 Mercedes S Class sure is a Beauty! Pristine luxury & latest technology to the max!
Best features I like is the 4wheel steering, its head-up display & interior mood lighting. Something I'm rather wary of is its automated "self valet" parking system. Obviously its a computer controlled system, which has the vulnerability of being "hacked" ???
LoL only way I'd ever own one is if I won Lotto! 😄
LOVE Ya Work, Godbless hava gday 🙂
Don’t love the looks, compared to the previous generation. Still, a very advanced car.
I think S class is a ways more on the interior.
Same ,old gen looks quite better and classy, not a fan of the new merc design language
For me, the best looking S-Class is the W221 facelift, the W222 looks like a C-Class and the W223 looks weird. Maybe it grows on me, if i see it in real, but i can't afford one anyway.
as soon as I fell in love with the w222, this thing came out...
I prefer this looks, it reminds me of an old generation S Class with square lights
Okay, the tech is pretty savage, one question though:
Can it buy itself for me??
If you live in india you cant afford iyT
Ha! That's funny☺️
You can do a review like Shmee does and then program it to park itself outside your house afterwards.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Well, not sure about that but here's the question everyone's been asking:
Will any of the tech gimmicks still work by the end of the warranty period?
Love the tech, not sure about the design..
It looks like a prototype not a production version
2021 hey car can I get a pizza
I'd like most of the tech, but not making such a big deal of itself. I don't want to drive an iPad, I want the tech anticipation with less interaction. Replace the tech interface with smooth luxury and I'm sold.
all cars want to be sports car now, even big luxury cars.
so we need larger grills as well … so here we go
I personally think the design really grows on you. It certainly has subtle Mercedes legacy design language and I think it works
"Sorry my engineers were German"
And I thought Germans weren't supposed to have a sense of humor. They just mocked themselves lmao.
Not bad, hey!
Wow that was A1 comedy
Purely because of that I will buy the car now!
The dashboard looks kinda... unfinished !
I agree, it looks too open for a luxury car, I think it should feel more concealed. Nit sure all the screens etc will age well
@@robo9725 Not just open...
But it looks like sonething is missing
And the interior even though it's nice it lacks character...it just look like a fancy place with screens, nothing very special
The whole car looks cheap
@@GD15555 downgrade from the previous generation
I agree
Seriously, what are those borders on the screens ? They look like 2012 tablets ...
The two "iPAD´s" looks so misplaced
Yeah idkk why tf Mercedes just didn’t intergrate the dash and the infoltamient system within the car. Absolutely disgusting smh
Probably a cost management process. They did NOT want to spend alot of money on this car.
Love the new S class, but maybe to much high tech 😂
Is too much a thing?!
@@Shmee150 sometimes it’s nice just to drive a car
@@Shmee150 it is when it’s out of warranty
@@Shmee150 Does this model include driver and passenger massaging with or without happy ending? That could put it above the 7 Series
@@Shmee150 only when it breaks
Late one tonight! I just don't know if the new interior fits the S class, the previous generation just seemed a bit more high quality and stylish, I think it might be the tesla style screen for MBUX
Gotta follow those embargo times hey
At least it doesn't have the CEO's kids tablets glued together LOL.
Somehow i like the design of the hyundai tucson's dashboard more. It is more elegant and better integrated, although a completely different class
This car will look dated in 1-2 years. The outgoing model is timeless.
Timeless design does not exist on earth besides in your mind. Only UFO is timeless for a reason
@@holymolys7692 That’s not up to you to decide :)
Completely agree 😄😂😂😂
I dont think so. This design seems much more timeless then the current one.
@@tbn22 Also not up to you to decide :)
While I appreciate Shmee’s technical acuity, I, even more so, appreciate his genuine enthusiasm for the vehicles reviewed.
Exterior is ruined. Looks like a genesis, has lost the Mercedes touch
The last one was prettier for sure.
Looks nothing like a Genesis
It does actually I was trying to put my finger on it but I couldn’t but now I know by I recognise it.
the new genesis cars are way prettier
At least not bad as BMW 4 series & M3
Reverse parking is another joy that tech wants to take away. The fist pump of victory...the look of astonishment on your passenger's face...the exquisite coordination between hand and eye...all taken away from us...

Amazing and stupid they ruined the car the interior is garbage and the outside is boring and looks like an A class. The generation before this looks 100 times better inside and out and people are buying the pre-2021 cars up like crazy so that shows you what people think of the new one.

Eh? It's not more than a Maybach though.
Not sure where you're getting your information from
And twin turbo
Man that comment was dumb asf
I’m not a fan of this interior, the old generations looked more luxurious and prestige however this just looks tacky, but it’s a merc so I gotta love it
Not really. The old one looks old already, especially the exterior. And I bet in a year time you'll think the same of the interior also
@@JWil97 not really. the only thing dated about the old mercedes S class is the screen. the bezels are too thick. but the sad thing is that the bezels on the gauge screen is also thick on the new S class. it looks so bad. if they had the bezels as thin as the main screen on the old S class, it will literally be so much better
@@VelocitronVoyager the old interior is classic, more timeless design. The new one is just high tech and futuristic. Wouldnt surprise me if most cars in the near future will have interior similar to the new s class. With that being said, the exterior on the new one is just on another level. It looks so wide, very long has immense presence and not to mention much better wheel choices than w222, those 21" looks miles above anything on the w222.
Looks like a testing prototype
@@JWil97 Absolutely nothing on the "old" (It isn't old) car has aged at all. It actually looks way more modern than this new one, paradoxically. The new one looks like a sickly concept of the W221 car.
Worst exterior ever..and that small screen with those huge bezels is a step back
yeah that gauge cluster is ugly
@@SoapOnTheRope88 maybe that was one sacrifice for the 3d gauge that did not really come across as well in this vid as IRL. Its fine for me
woah I wouldn't go that far- even worse than a Fiat Multipla, BMW iX?- are u high?
The exterior is "ok". Not brilliant. Just "ok". The interior is an atrocity.
Sound like a kid: ''wURsT eveRR comMenT''
Too many tacky tablet like screens and silly ambient light colours to detract from the true luxury features which are great, if a bit of tech overkill. The fact it looks like a fancy Hyundai is neither here nor there. I think I'd still stick with a Bentley or a Rolls for more understaetd technology.
have you seen the new hyundai and genesis? beautiful cars. they basically poached all the german designers and let them have free rein.
nice overview of the new S-class - great video as always - thanks to you, Shmee
This is a stepback of hideous styling inside and out.
If we take a look at your car fleet you don’t have a really really relaxing car just for covering miles in comfort like an S Class, rolls Royce, Bentley etc etc
Have you considered such a car for this purpose?
He bought the M8 Competition for that purpose
@@smar7931 ik he has the M8, i meant cars like a S class coupe, rolls royce wraith, bentley CGT you know like just ultra comfort and luxury
GTC4 Lusso is pretty luxurious
Love the tech, unconvinced by the exterior styling, especially the rear.
Cheers.
As an UX designer myself, I’m completely sold on how the Mercedes designers and engineers fashion those well-thought and immersive experience of tech x real life usabilities. Well done Shmee for pointing out of all the incredible features in this video! Really looking forward to experience it myself soon.
I love Mercedes and also the new S Class.
But I don´t like that every car brand put´s ipads in the interior instead of of integrating the screens into the dachboard.
Moreover, a 3.0 liter 6 cilinder in a S500.. i don´t like that.

A beautiful car for sure. The technology is mind boggling to say the least. I love the 4 wheel turning ability and the hands free parking system. Great demonstration as usual Tim, well done.👍👍
I have watched your videos for a long time but never have subscribed. This video and last video have cemented my faith. Subscriber for life!
Welcome aboard! Thank you
What's going on with car design these days, 4 series gets massive nostrils, S class becomes a big characterless blob on outside with a massive tablet glued to the dash.
Reminds me of an Accord
2020
Back end is literally a fucking CLA. Lazy designs
I Completely agree with the S-Class Design looking bland, 4 Series however i personally love.
@@user-dl8yo3wv1t I couldn't agree more with you. Bentley Conti GT's interior feels like a million dollars' worth. Look at this pile of crap with its cheap interior. All they have done special is added lots of silly LEDs everywhere. Basically, it's a $120K torch light, just like those moronic Audis these days with their childish directional indicators. What a disgrace.
The interior of this Merc is a fingerprint magnet with all that matt plastic all over the place. And that so-called wood feels they were made in village factory in China.
The driver's digital display looks particularly awful and poorly integrated.
It does look futuristic, but in a reeally cheap way. They definitely missed the mark. The backseat area is a little more appropriate though.
Very poor integration. Do not know how this passed. It's awful really
Tim Shmee, what a BEAUTIFUL video! Thank you!
The tachometer display reminds me of the BMW i3 😂
Mercedes really killed it with all the new technology
And bombed when it came to designing a good looking car.
@@Kronos0999 I agree !! A classy car has nothing to do with tech it has to do with quality materials solid build quality a smooth ride that isolates you from the outside world dead quiet and power steering that requires just a pinky finger to steer with. To me that is luxury. Giant tablets and screens are trailer park luxury and luxury for trashy people with bad taste Mercedes targeted the wrong people. Poor people can have more class than rich people money has nothing to do with taste and class but people who like this kind of car believe that only rich people have class and a luxury car is all about giant screens and gimmicks as many as they can cram in. Sorry, you are all wrong! A 2007 Lincoln Town car had few features but it was built well many make it to a million miles which is luxury they had huge trunks comfortable seats smooth rides and were built like tanks simple and reliable which is true luxury.
That sound when you unlocked the car though (Pops & Bangs tune in a S Class 😜)
Am i the only one who admires physical switches n dials more than all screen?
No, you are not but sadly good taste is rare. Good taste and good manners are becoming even more rare in these modern times. To me, the W221 was perfect, unlike many others. I also thought the W221 had a beautiful interior minimal simple and elegant. I liked the W222 less but I still think it was beautiful the new one represents modern times and modern people are shallow and clueless where shiny things and giant screens float their boats and stimulate their tiny brains.
Curious how the new key feels in the hands? Do they offer a keyless option like NFC keys for your phone?
Enjoying the longer videos Shmee!
Glad you like them!
They nailed the exterior styling imo, but I wish they stuck with last year's screen and gauge cluster design. Hoping next time we'll see a single ultrawide screen built into the dash, no tablets or bezels.
Yea, they nailed it if the goal was to look like a Toyota.
Looks so cheap it’s embarrassing
@@TheDougSpot If the grille was twice its size, I would be looking for a TRD badge
Omg it is so cool. I am not in love with the exterior, but if I had the cash I would buy it as a daily driver for sure
My nitpicks: The front end is too aggressive, the rear doesn't look like a Mercedes, and the Mercedes logo on the steering wheel is too big.
How else do you gotta know that you drive a merc? Haha
@Eventus Vantos all subjective... he just stated how he feels about the car... doesn’t mean you have to agree
It looks like a 2017 toyota camry lol. look up a picture of one in silver
@Eventus Vantos In my opinion, the front has too many aggressive cuts and angles for a non-AMG S-Class, the rear looks like something Korean, I'm not sure what about it makes it look Korean, it just kind of does, and the badge on the steering wheel is simply disproportioned to the rest of the wheel.
And looks like a longer CLS

It’s a shame that the previous gen had much better standard equipment. This one has most modern features as an option.
As soon graduating Automotive electrics and electronics engineer, in 10-15 years these cars will be a nightmare to troubleshoot with all those sensors even inside the car :D
I just love this car it’s probably my dream car
I like the new S-Class on the tech side but honestly they took away the almost perfect symmetry of the previous interior, to me it was like everything matches and there was kind of like a flow in the design from the doors to the middle console etc. Now it feels like the opposite.

These cars are made to be more disposable and stuffed with all this nice but quite unnecessary and not so useful tech ..
I’m sorry, design wise, this is a significant step backwards.
