Are you brand new to guitar and not sure where to start? 🤔 Well then, you've clicked on the perfect video! 🎉
My name is Ellen and I create step-by-step guitar tutorials here on my channel, #for3v3rfaithful 🦋 Welcome to the fourth episode of my brand new beginner series, where I'll teach you one of the most popularly used strumming patterns on guitar! 😱 (And stay tuned to the end of the video to play through even more songs with me! ⭐)
Make sure if you haven't seen the first three episodes yet, to start from the beginning so you don't miss a thing! 😉
1️⃣ EPISODE 1: • Guitar Lessons for Beg...
2️⃣ EPISODE 2: • Guitar Lessons for Beg...
3️⃣ EPISODE 3: • Guitar Lessons for Beg...
Through the years, many people have told me on their first day of guitar lessons, "I just want to play a song" - so that's just what we'll focus on! 🎸This series is intended to teach you the basics of guitar by PLAYING ACTUAL SONGS in each video! 🎶 Of course, you'll still learn the foundational stuff along the way, but it'll be sprinkled in so you can still have fun and play your guitar while learning. 🤗
In this episode, we're shifting focus from our left hand to our right so we can learn more about strumming! 🙌 Stick with me to the end of the video to learn one of the MOST POPULAR strumming patterns and then use it to play through even more songs! 💪🏼
Throughout this series, we'll dive deeper into topics like tuning your guitar, practicing chord transitions, and figuring out strumming patterns, but for this lesson, I want you to get comfortable with up strums and learning this first, basic (but extremely applicable!) strumming pattern! 💕
As always, thanks so much for watching, and good luck!! ✌

Hi
Hi my name is Navya gurung and I an neice of Pritika gurung and I love your series very very much
😅😅
Thank you so, so, so much! You are the reason that I am still practicing! It took me two weeks with Episode 3 to feel comfortable to move on ( I can be a perfectionist) but it was so worth it. I love how you have the song medleys at the end. The set up of the music and having you sing while we play has been so helpful! Please make more of these beginner videos!!! And maybe some "campfire" songs videos too? I am so grateful for you. You are a wonderful teacher and generous to have your lessons so accessible!
You first video helped me fall in love with learning how to play. Didn’t put the guitar down for 4 hrs after learning 3 cords lol.
Just started playing guitar a few days ago, I don’t know how but I’m so glad I found this channel! I normally never comment on videos but really these series are amazing for people who are a bit overwhelmed by all the content floating around wondering what to follow. You make it fun and simple and that keeps people motivated to learn an instrument. I feel that I’m improving a little bit every day so I hope u continue these series!

me too this is si helpful
Of all the things you have taught me, this has been by far the hardest thing for me to learn yet.... my brain screams at me for missing the strings every time :') but ill be back tomorrow and hopefully my sleep brain fixes itself.
Thank you for these videos, your explanations and guides on transitions have helped immensely.
So glad to hear these have been helpful to you! 🙌 Strumming patterns can be a difficult concept to get down. Many people understand the counting but have trouble translating that to the actual up and down strums. 🙈 But just take it slowly and keep practicing consistently and soon it'll click for you and become easy! 🎸🎶 Best of luck, and thanks so much for watching and learning with me! 🤗💕
For real man 😭that damn pattern is beating my ass
@@alexart1551 Wow, your comment made me realise iv been playing for 7months.... Feels like no time at all. Though the longer i play the less i know, or the worse i feel :') Improved so much since this video though.
SAME BUT ILL WILL KEEP COMING BACK TO THIS VID
@@alexart1551 keep working on it man, that pattern opens up many songs.
these are so helpful. but for the end, i kept getting lost i think it would be easier if the arrows lit up
YES THAT WOULD BE AMAZING. I thought it was just me who was getting lost.
I was thinking the same thing!
agreed!
Yes!!! I kept getting confused, so I think it would be easier if the arrows lit up

Finally lesson 4😭 thank you soooo much Ellen, ILYSM, you're the bestest teacher ever! Please teach us guitar to advanced level because I cannot imagine anyone learning from anyone else
I soo agree wth you, she is amazing at teaching
Ikr! I'm so proud of myself that I learned how to play guitar because of her 😭
I like her
I've been playing almost every day using other youtube teachers for about a month and have been struggling. Then suddenly your videos came into my feed. In one day, literally, I am able to play soooo much better. I can play chords I couldn't play before, and I can strum and change chords. Your techniques are what changed things for me. Thank you! Much success to you and your channel.
I just bought a guitar three days ago. I’m already strumming 3 out of 4 chords thanks to your videos.
And I guess that will G,C and D😂. Bought mine yesterday.
@@brunokim7022 that’s awesome!!!
@@brunokim7022 hey, Hows your progress? I bought mine 2 days ago..

Best teacher ever. Only four days I started playing and can play along with you now.
That's awesome!! 🎉 Congrats on getting it down so fast and I hope you'll keep learning more songs with me! 🤗💕
O-M-G! You had me at hello. This is the hardest episode by far!!!
She teaches so well! Like literally she's the best guitar teacher I have ever seen.
Yes! I needed this. For me who is completely new to guitar, it is the strumming patterns that always make it difficult. If I practice, I could learn the chords and get used to chord shifts, but not the strumming patterns. I always get stuck at the detailed strumming patterns when I'm trying to learn the whole song. It makes me overwhelmed... This really is useful and I am very looking forward to episode 5 too! Thank you so much!!
The strumming pattern sure put me in a challenge but the feeling of finally getting it right was unconditional. Thankss a lot
I am an intermediate guitarist and I feel like crying because I really struggled when I was a bigginer.
I wish this series was available then....hahaa
Hi miss elen because of you I might begin my guitar lessons very soon thanks for all of your tips and advice on your lesson
6 days ago I didn't know a single chord, today I was able to make every transition cleanly while matching your strumming - you're an incredible teacher, this series is amazing, and I appreciate you so much!! Thank you!!! 💓💓
Wow that's so awesome!! 🎉 Thanks so much for learning guitar with me and this series, and I'm really glad it's been helping you to get a strong start! 💪
Practiced your course every single day for 6 weeks and I'm finally seeing and feeling my progress. I remember spending 10 days on your first video, just practicing until I got it right. Thank you for putting this amazing course out for free on UA-cam
I'm so happy you're making progress with these videos! 🥰 Hopefully by the end you'll have even more confidence on guitar. 🎸 Thanks for learning with me! 🫶
I've been using loads of different online guides and just didn't seem to be getting anything going together, hardly making any progression, then I came.accross these videos and I feel so much better and actually enjoy picking up the guitar. Brilliant, thank you
I've been hating the guitar but i found ur channel accidentally and now I'm trying my best!🍂
This pattern and changing chords with the new pattern is kinda hard but you motivate us to try and try💝
Love u so much🥰🥰
I've been searching for good tutorials for TRUE beginners for quite while and these are by far the best! A lot of videos and apps for learning guitar aren't good at explaining things and assume you're already at a certain skill level, and others move so slow that it's boring. You do an amazing job at pacing, being thorough, and keeping it fun. Thank you!
It’s all fun and games until a notification pops up and you can’t see what your supposed to be playing 😭
noted!! sorry i didn't realize it was covering things up! 🙈 i'll move them 👍
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 it's true
Hey Ellen!!
I watched your tutorials for beginners...and i wanted to try it so bad but i didn't have a guitar...I bought a guitar 1 week ago and i enjoy playing it...thanks a lot for these cool tutorials...it really helps me a lot😁
Okay but we need you to teach until we can play all of Ed Sheeran's songs and all of One Direction's songs!!!!!!

I came across your channel almost a month ago. I’m so happy to say that I’ve been able to learn so much from just the first 3 videos. You make it easy for actual beginners to learn without getting discouraged. Thank you so much!!
Aww thank you so much for the feedback and sweet comment! 🥰 I'm really glad you like my teaching style and am happy to hear these videos have been helpful on your journey so far! 🎸 Hopefully the rest of the episodes will be just as fun and thanks for watching! 💕
thank you so much for these videos, a few months ago i bought my first guitar and got lost and confused and i quit. however, these videos have helped me so much and i cant thank you enough!! you are such a beautiful spirit, thank you for everything you do!!
I bought my guitar like 6 months ago and went straight to learning a couple of Rock/Metal songs (my fav genre) using power chords, and im like "this is easy, i can play a whole Metallica song by using 2 finger power chords"... until i had to start using actual chords, then im like "Oh no, why didnt i start with the basics, and learned actual chords".
A couple days ago i found your channel and here i am, completed episode 4 and it feels so good to be able to actually play real chords and being able to transition between them. And also my strumming has improved too! Im learning on electric guitar as i dont have an acoustic (yet).
I'm now going to tackle the much feared C chord and after some bar chords. Thanks for your videos you really do an excellent job, from the way you teach to the structure of the videos, great work!
And even if im a Metalhead, im excited to play along all these pop/ballad songs that you have on your channel! Cant wait for video number 5. Thank you!
aww thank you so much for the sweet comment! 🥰 power chords are so awesome and i actually learned a few of them early on as well, but i think it's great that you're going back to learn some of these open chords. it's a great place to start! 🙌 and glad you're having fun playing through these songs with me as well. i've got lots more fun play throughs in the rest of the series so hope to see you in the next episode (posting soon!) 🎸🎶
@@for3v3rfaithful hi you are the best!!!!
It's taken me almost 6 months now to get to this video, but this is hands down the BEST guitar tutorial I've ever had! I don't care what people say, what entitled guitarist have to chime in with. This breaks down guitar in a way I can understand.
I am now playing G, C, D, E, A no problem, I can transition them with my eyes closed, I'm very impressed with these lessons. I kind of take each lesson in my own stride. I stuck to ur first lesson for almost a month, until I could play all those chords no problem!
I honestly don't think ur going to find a better way to learn from scratch on UA-cam!
I've come across a lot of "professionals" and my friends have pointed me in directions that all go WAY over my head. I think some people assume I should know how to read and hear music before I pick up a guitar, but with these tutorials; I had no clue how to do either- and now, I can tell when my guitar is out of tune, when I'm muting a string or not applying the right pressure, my fingers don't hurt anymore, my hand doesn't cramp (I thought I couldn't play guitar because maybe I had some kind of cramp problem. Nope, just not use to it!).
I truly do mean this from the bottom of my heart! THANK YOU FOR THESE VIDEOS! You took a father who was hesitant to learn guitar because I was too old for it now, too, helping me become someone who enjoys guitar and everything that comes with it and now an eager learner trying to learn things I told myself I'd never attempt cuz it was way above me!
🥹🥹🥹 I can't tell you how much I enjoyed reading your sweet comment! I'm really proud of and excited for you that you've been able to take these lessons at your own pace and can see how much you're improving over time. 🙌 There's nothing that makes me happier than to read comments like yours that these videos have been helpful in learning how to play your guitar. 🥰 I can't wait to hear how you're doing by the end of this and thank you so much for watching and learning with me! 🤗🎸🎶💕
This video was incredible. Infact, the entire beginner series I have learnt till now. Especially getting to play the songs in the end is absolutely encouraging. You are surely an incredible teacher. Looking forward to learn more from the beginner series.
Thank You! 🙂
Aww thank you so much for the sweet comment! 🥰 I'm really glad you've been having fun with this series so far and it always feels great to have positive feedback. 🤗 Congrats on making it halfway through already and I hope you'll continue to learn and grow with me and my videos! 💕
U are the best teacher i have ever met u are kind and no Strict at all u tell us to practice whenever needed😊

I love your class. I’m practicing with your video everyday. It’s so motivating. Thank you for sharing this for free
You are a teacher which is being found by me for so long
I am such as a beginner
thank you soooooo much. Finally someone who made sure that the dust from that new guitar has disappeared. I hope many more videos will follow because I really enjoy learning to play guitar now. is there a release date for the next video yet?
It sucks when you can’t do a simple strumming pattern 🥲
...YET!!! stick with it; keep practicing. Have you mastered it yet?
Fantastic video! I love this series! For those that are struggling with this pattern, just put down your guitar and come back the next day. It really helped me! Thanks so much!
Ellen, this video is amazing! I second the best teacher comment! As a beginner struggling with strumming, I am so appreciative of your clear step-by-step breakdown of strumming. After watching your video and practicing, strumming is starting to make sense. You make guitar playing fun. Thank you Ellen.
I have a question:
Is it helpful for a beginner to get a Capo? A lot of easy guitar tutorials use Capos, and just wanted to know if you would recommend a beginner to get a Capo.
TY for the lesson as always ❤️❤️❤️
Yes go for it
Out of all the videos I’ve watched about learning guitar, these are the best ones that actually helped, not saying I’m good, but it’s fun to learn this way, thanks
Ohhoo! She knows the struggle! My sound hole was a black hole for my platrums😂
Yayy!! Ep.4 is out! 🤩❤

Thank you for making guitar learning a fun and easy-to-follow learning experience. You're an amazing teacher, Ellen!
Thank you so much your the best teacher I could ask for pls do more pls
i love these lessons! I’ve looked for so many apps but they all cost so much money and now i’ve finally found a youtube channel that explains everything and plays songs with you. Thank you so much these are very helpful!

I tried to find many channels that could help me play the guitar, in my opinion, these series are the easiest I have gone through, thank you so much!
Aww thank you so much! 🥰 I’m really glad you like my teaching style and hope you’ll keep learning with me for the rest of the series! 🙌🏼
You are truly an amazing teacher I can't believe I have made it this far without giving up I've already learned 3 songs, "we'll never ever get back together," "sweet home Alabama," and "let it be" so tysm!
I got my very first guitar for my birthday Oct of last year, my husband who has been playing guitar for 17 years tried teaching me but I immediately felt overwhelmed and quit. I have learned so much these past couple of days watching your videos. Thank you so much!!!
Ellen is an amazing guitar teacher! Super positive, always on time, holds me accountable in a gentle and fun way! So grateful for you Ellen!
Aww thanks so much Dave! 🥰 You've been an awesome student and I've really enjoyed working with you and watching your skills progress! 🙌
I’m back for more! My instructor moved me into strumming, after drinking from a fire hose, learning chords and chord progression etc. It is always a delight to take a break, and pick up on one of your videos. Having an instructor to guide me weekly, helps to keep me focused and regimented. Like anything else, too much repetition can make you chase squirrels after a while. Your videos really help, and this one was great as I could pause & rewind, get it almost right until I finally felt comfortable with the task. I get frustrated easily, so this is a bonus! Thank you once again for sharing your wonderful gift!
Chris H.
Totally - repetition is so necessary but also can get really stale. 😂 I'm glad you're enjoying these videos as a fun practice break! 🙌 Thank you for incorporating this series as part of your journey! 🎸🎶
Ellen! Thank you for sending this link to me!! This is an absolute game changer. This was so clear to follow and makes so much more sense on how to strum. ❤
Yay that's awesome! 🥰 I'm really glad it was helpful to get a starting foundation of strumming patterns and 8th note rhythms. 🙌 Thanks for watching! 💕
The way you taught the strumming sequence reeeaaally really helped compared to other youtube vids thank you!!
I'm so glad you found it helpful and like my teaching style! 🙌 Thanks so much for the feedback and for learning with me! 🎸🎶💕
Great, I need to learn more strumming patterns, thank you
Ellen, thank you so much for this beginner series! I love it so much! I really hope you post in this series as often as you can because I literally wait to learn more until you post! Thank you for all you do :)
I learned so much from these tutorials. They look simple, yet covers all the basics.
Tried lots of different lessons, but yours are pitched just right. You are showing me the way! I'm being constantly challenged, and having fun at the same time. Awesome.
Yay, I'm really glad you like my video format and teaching style! 🎉 I try to have a good mix of presenting information and putting it to use, so comments like yours are really motivating for me to continue this series and plan more in the future! 🤗 Thank you 💕
@@for3v3rfaithful I'm practicing the chord transitions, at 50BPM and it doesn't feel like a chore, because I can see the wider picture, the context. This has always been a stumbling block, but not with your approach. So, a huge thank you. I'm enjoying it.
I'm an absolute beginner and I'm so happy to have found your videos just a week ago. I've been trying to learn guitar for years. But each time after few days I would give up because the strumming really frustrated me. But with your easy to follow step-by-step lessons finally I feel like I can learn guitar. Within a week of following your lessons I can feel the up strumming is improving and beginning to feel easier everyday. Thanks a lot!!!
Hey, can you please give me advice because I get overwhelmed and play faster and the strumming messes up and doesn't go with the beat and the chords are pretty accurate the strumming is what I can't do, can you please give me an advice on how to fix this plss??
I always tell myself that “no I can’t play the guitar, it was too hard for me” until i found your tutorial . Thankssss and i hope you keep on making a tutorial for a beginner like me❤️🥺

I'm really learning from your lessons, already composing with your lessons
It’s took me months to get to lesson 4 😅😂 I bought a metronome.. I skip lesson 3 until the practice which I enjoy the most as it feels like I can play.. I haven’t learnt how to read the patterns yet, as I need them facing the other way for some reason? But I return to lesson 2 a lot.. I have just learnt to relax my arm strumming down 😇 I didn’t realise how tense I was until your guitar lesson’s.. which led me to start meditating more & practice a relaxed breathing pattern.. This all led me to ‘let go’ and relax! Which in turn changed my life.. it hugely impacted in everything I do, even simple tasks of everyday things like washing up, I realised I was always rushing & stressing about everything! I learnt to count everything out.. 1 and 2 and 3 and 4 😂 I do this walking up the stair’s.. cleaning.. even when people are talking to me in my mind I am counting 1 and 2 and 3 and 4 🤣 it helps me stay mindful & calm 🙏 You are helping me in so many way’s I had to share with you & Thank you 💫 My strumming down has immensely improved, my strumming up is hit n miss 🤪 I need to use my plectrum! But I play at all the early hours in the morning so I am quiet 🤫 It’s hard to strum up with a sausage thumb 👍 haha! I’m going to try playing outside by the river with a plectrum 🌱 Thank you again for the life changer! You’re energy is so beautiful n balanced, I can’t wait to advance to the next video but until I master the up strum & learn to read the chords I’ll stay between lesson 3/4 and flip back to 2! 😇 1 and 2 and 3 and 4.. 1 and 2 and 3 and 4 - 😉
Hey, slow and steady wins the race (as they say) and also it means you're really giving yourself time to learn it correctly so your practice sessions are super productive! 🙌 People have a tendency to rush through the early lessons and sometimes that puts them at a disadvantage later on. 🙈 If you're enjoying the counting and metronome process, you should try out my brand new strumming challenge I just released this morning! 🎸 ua-cam.com/video/uWCi62IPi1E/v-deo.html Thanks for watching and learning with me! 🥰

when your strumming do you also have to start at a specific string, for example, for "Em" do you start at to strum at the 5 string or just strum all of the strings. :)
for Em you strum all 6. Yes. Some strings all start and different areas. Like Dsus4 you start strumming at the 4th string. I'm a beginner guitarist and all i have learnt comes from ellen so my info is reliable :)
