I'm a Steelers fan and became a low key Baker fan when he was with the Browns. The move to kick the first QB that was actually decent is such an epitomizing move for the Browns. His first 6 years in the league is pretty much a mirror of what Stafford did with the Lions; I would not be surprised at all if Baker has a good career like Stafford has.

Imma disagree with the "most hated team with Brady" because I'm not a Bucs fan by any means, but I'm pretty sure the vast majority of people had come around to Brady by that time and were secretly excited to see the GOAT do what he does.
It was very cool (as an NFL fan) to see Brady make a run and win the Superbowl with another team, completely solidifying his GOAT status.
Brady was hated, yes. However, he gained everyone's respect towards the end of his career because there was no questions anymore. Brady is and probably will always be THE GOAT.

Lifelong Browns fan here and LOVED Baker on the team and defended him as QB longer than my friends but I had to finally admit they and the front office were right and Baker had to go.
Best way I can explain it is that Baker wasn’t one of the boys with the other players. NONE of them defended his departure. It seems Baker couldn’t get over the excessive chip on his shoulder which limited his play on the field and rather than bonding with his teammates he was busy making commercials in isolation.
I hope Baker has learned how to be a better leader and that with this new maturity and leadership he has massive success with the Bucs.
But the Browns were in the right and not the villian in this story

    • @SilentJay8

Getting rid of Baker may or may not have been the right call, but Cleveland is very much the villain. Not for who they moved on FROM, but TO. Trading every asset you’ve ever had or will have and giving the largest guaranteed deal in history to a sexual predator that hadn’t thrown a pass in two years is firmly in the villain camp.

@@OffensiveFarmer This one always frustrates me as well. Both Allen and Lamar have developed into 2 of the top QBs in the league, but the key word is DEVELOPED. Both had stability in the first 4 or 5 years of their careers. Both still have the Same Head Coach, and both had the same Offensive Coordinator for the first 4/5 years of their player careers. By the time Lamar and Allen were onto their 2nd OCs, Baker was onto his 7th. Baker has also had 7 different Head Coaches and 2 Interims at Cleveland and Carolina. Buffalo had found its feet a couple seasons before Allen was Drafted, and Baltimore which has been on of the most consistently good teams in the league for over 2 decades. Baker has had to play for Cleveland, Carolina, a short stint in LA, and now Tampa.
Name me one player that could suffer through all this stuff and come out the other end not only still a stable no. 1 QB for a team but also manage to have a couple playoff wins under his belt and a new contract under his name, and that players name will be Baker freaking Mayfield. Lamar would probably still be in the league but would not be reaching the statistical heights he has, at best he'd be RGIII 2.0. Allen would be out of the league by now because he wouldn't have had both a HC and OC that would've given him time to develop and kick his nasty Interception kick, or Allen would at best be another Sam Darnold but more athletic and a perennial backup.

You missed the highlight of that game where the Browns beat the Jets on Thursday night. The Browns were so pathetic at that point, hadn't won a game in forever that Budweiser promised free beer when they finally got a win. They had free beer fridges setup in Cleveland bars, ready to be unlocked when they won. When Baker and the Browns beat the Jets (against Sam Darnold, the player many thought they should have drafted), they showed the Bud Light Knight in a Cleveland bar, unlocking a fridge, and Browns fans going berserk over finally getting a win.
On a side note, I always thought that Baker and Jarvis had great chemistry and when they brought in Odell it was the beginning of the end of Baker in Cleveland.

I'm a long time Browns fan and I can tell you there was nothing wrong with Baker while he was here. Other than some bad coaching and his injured shoulder (which happens) he was fine. He turned a 1-31 team into a playoff team. Unfortunately for Browns fans, he was undermined by an owner who doesn't know what he is doing (Haslam) and then sent to a terrible team. If it was not for Haslam and sending him to a terrible team, he would have never had a hiccup in his career. His "resurrection" was inevitable since he was never bad to begin with. He was just, foolishly, cast aside by a dumb owner.

I remember when my Bucs got Baker after the Brady retirement and a lot of “experts” and uninformed fans of other teams were predicting the Bucs to win 4 or 5 games, which I thought was ridiculous. A lot of the Super Bowl core was still on the team and Baker is a guy who you know is going to give it his absolute best effort week in and week out. Did I expect him to be as good as he’s been? No. But there was absolutely no way that this team was going to just collapse considering all of the talent still on the roster. Baker is a stud, and I’m so happy that the fan base was so quick to latch onto his competitive fire and rally around him.

Baker just has that extra "something" that you just don't know which Baker is going to show up on GameDay. He could be an absolute unit and crush you. OR he could shit the bed and throw 4 picks and 0 touchdowns.
I think he's become more mature (gameplay-wise) and is better than he was before in Cleveland. He just needs the solid support behind him. It can't be easy to know that basically every single game you play could be your last. I think with the Bucs signing him as a starter is going to pay dividends for that team. Now he can focus on playing to win and not playing for his career.

I really have believed baker has been a top 10 QB just waiting to emerge his whole career. What he did in Cleveland in just his rookie season would have been enough for me to keep him for 10 years, Not for every team but Cleveland needed that consistency. I had hope for the carolina experiment but it became so clear so quick that Matt Rhule was not an NFL head coach but again I saw most of the slander go to Baker. I hope Tampa keeps him and lets him actually develop. Idk what his ceiling could be anymore but a guy who can have the stats he's had with the track record of coaches and coordinators that he's had is a guy I'm still willing to take a chance on. The only answer is that he is just that good naturally. At his worst, he's a 5-6 win QB who will light a fire under your teams ass and be competitive as hell. At his best, he's a few throws away from beating pat mahomes or Jared Goff, two of the better younger QBs, in the playoffs. I think Tampa will be an interesting team to keep eyes on these next few seasons
