      My husband was so annoyed early in our relationship whenever he sneezed and I didn’t say “bless you”-he would wait a few seconds and then say “you didn’t say bless you” 😂 Now it’s automatic on my part for any sneeze 😁

    1: sorry, please and thank you.
    2: greet people.

    4:open door.
    5: give people grace.

    It is a sad commentary on our present society that someone has to teach adults to use common polite phrases. This used to be the cultural norm. I am glad that you are trying to bring classy back!

    One of the greatest pieces of advice I heard growing up was not to say "no problem" and use "you're welcome." Take pride in the effort you put in to something and don't brush it off, no matter how small.

    • @junior6447
      @junior6447 3 роки тому +5

      I say no problem, not because I am not prideful in helping someone, but it literally was not a problem to me to come and help. And I would be happy to help again.

    • @nilnil7325
      @nilnil7325 3 роки тому +2

      Saying 'no problem' isn't being dismissive. Its just a casual, friendly way of saying "Don't worry about it, I was happy to help". Its intended to put the other person at ease so that they don't feel indebted to you for the help you offered.

    The reason why I came to this video is because lately I feel stupid when I say thank you or you’re welcome to people. The way they respond to me saying thank you is as though they don’t want to hear it. They don’t say you’re welcome either. I observe people’s behavior and every year people just seem to get more rude. Perhaps is where I live, Miami, Florida 🤨

    • @b.b.4850
      @b.b.4850 2 роки тому

      I've been in Orlando since the pandemic, but I lived in Miami for ten years and people are definitely ruder there. It was always a shock when someone would hold a door open for me, it seldom happens there. Miami is a city full of opportunists for sure. As much as I miss my dear friends and my former life, I don't think I will be returning there at this point.

    For me, everything is about psychology. Most people have "inner demons" that affect their actions toward other people. As a self-taught psycho-analyst, I can see these demons clearly, so I try to be considerate of the fact that the majority of people cannot sort through their personal issues with either themselves or with anyone else as I can, because they are often not aware of these issues to begin with. I am a person who cannot stand to be disrespected, but after moments pass and I meditate on a situation, I let it go and I'm OK. Anywho, understanding others helps - even though, as mentioned in the video, certain behavior is unnecessary, and certain behavior will not be overlooked by me if it's too extreme or creates a victim - and it keeps me humble. I am proud to be the person who can ease the minds of those around me by helping them to also understand others' points of view and their feelings, but also to help those understand their own feelings and actions.

    When I first watched this video, I didn’t understand why she was stating the obvious. This is pretty much how everyone I knew grew-up. To sum it up, “be nice to everyone.” Unfortunately, later or earlier in life, people become complacent or just go with the flow. It’s not easy to stay being nice. I was once confused when someone commented that they had never heard me swear. That gave me a lot to think about. Different jobs also have different people. Not everyone likes nice people. They get suspicious.

      In the Netherlands we say: "gezondheid" which means "healthiness". So you kind off wish for the person to be/get healthy (and happy).
      I think the "problem" some have with bless you is for its religious perspective. I'm really happy we are using a "health term" instead of a "religious term", nobody gets hurt or feels left out this way.

      Yes, it did have a superstitious past, but I think that is no longer the case. At least I presume when most people say 'bless you' they aren't hoping that the person doesn't drop dead. Nowadays, it's more of a ' don't feel bad, we all sneeze from time to time.' Do you think the majority still holds to the superstitious meaning of the past?

    Dear Modern Lady, my daughter has her friend over everyday for hours and hours and leaves around 5or 6 am. Tonight this person took a shower in our home and I told my daughter I was not comfortable with this. He lives around the corner with his father. There's not a need. Please any advice will help.

    • @laurenlilliewilson3646
      @laurenlilliewilson3646 3 роки тому

      Hello Susannah. It sounds like your daughter might have a very special friend there! While this is great for many reasons, obviously this is a little intrusive without set rules or without you (being the parent and homeowner) being aware! That's bad manners for sure! I'd start by giving your daughter benefit of the doubt, but talk to her and express that this makes you uncomfortable. What is their relationship? Official? Just hanging out? That's fine, but maybe boundaries could be set about visits/times. Is he staying for dinner? That's fine but she should give you a heads up! Leaving the house at 5am? Either he should stay over or not at all? When its still dark out, that could be dangerous too. The fact his parents don't seem to notice him coming home at 5/6am makes me wonder what kind of relationship he has with his parents. Is he ok? Could some hospitality be set between yourself , him and your daughter ? Maybe some grace is required here. But one that sets a defined limit, and allows all parties to be aware of comings and goings in your house (which is proper and polite!). Best not to let the situation fester, but better understand what's going on and act accordingly. That allows you to take charge of things a little better. It sounds like you're trying to look for the best etiquette options so good on you! Best of luck

    People originally started saying bless you because they though when you sneezed your soul left your body and a demon entered it so they would bless them, and I don’t believe that lol so I don’t feel it necessary to say

      Not totally true. There are still plenty of New Yorkers with manners. Not so much among the youth, but the older adults and middle aged, yes.

    Some religions (Jehovah Witnesses) don’t practice and teach their members to say Bless You when someone sneezes.

      Thank you for watching my video! You make an excellent point, when religious principles are taught - those that follow that religion should certainly choose to live in a manner that best fits their preferences. I agree with you!

    But “bless you “is related to religion that doesn’t make sense for non religious people , we need a new way to honor when someone sneezes. In the Latin culture they say salud which means to your health. Bless means to be less than. It also means to consecrate with blood . You can check the true meaning of bless.

      Would you or someone not religious not want to have favor with the eternal beings? Is “God bless you” really that offensive to you?
