Dr. Sugai Compares: Tinted vs Non-Tinted La Roche-Posay Anthelios 50 Sunscreen
Вставка
- Опубліковано 19 вер 2020
- This is the second video in the Dr. Sugai Compares...Series and it’s discussing one of my favorite sunscreens of 2020.
They are mineral based but the ingredients are understandably different as one is tinted and the other is not. What is the key difference besides the appearance of your skin once the sunscreen is rubbed in? Does one of them protect you from the Blue light emitted from your electronic devices (iPads, phones, computers)?? Watch the video to see which one has the ingredient that will protect you from aging/worsening dark spots on the face from our devices.
Also please remember: do not forget to apply sunscreen on your neck, ears and eyelids. These are commonly missed areas and I am finding skin cancers in these areas quite a bit.
Wear your spf 30 and above all year round!
In general, tinted sunscreens are great for those with darker skin types (I am skin type III and it blends in well) and so the goal of the video is to not tell you which one to buy but to show how it blends into my skin type and to discuss how ingredients can differ between tinted and non-tinted sunscreens!

Thank you for this video. I started using the tinted sunscreen just over a month ago and my forehead has almost no dark spots left. I love love love this sunscreen that’s why I wanted to learn more about it. I’m grateful I can learn from your work. Thank you again!!
Thank you so much for discussing the potential piling and staining masks, clothes, etc! Those are important points most sunscreen reviews don’t talk about. Keep up the amazing content, doc!
Thank you so much for saying that! I try to give each product several weeks of use before making a video and these are the little things I notice and good to hear that it’s helpful! Take care and thanks for watching, my friend 🙏🏼🤙🙏🏼🤙
Thank you for comparing. I use the tinted one but I was wondering about the non tinted. Like how you explain the video.
My dermatologist recommended the tinted sunscreen. I take medications and one of them gave me a side effect of light sensitivity which later, it causes my skin to turn red because of sun explosion and blue light from TV, phones, and lights which now it lead to pigmentation. Now I will be on tinted sunscreen for more protection. Thank you for the video. GREAT information to find out!
I purchased the La Roche-Posay 50 SPF Tinted Mineral at Target (San Antonio, TX) because of a prior video in which you discussed several sunscreens. I have been getting tons of age spots and the sun is intense in the Southwest. I do like the tinted on you more than the other.
I’ve decided to buy tinted version 😅 thank you it was very helpful 😊
Dang, his skin looks gorgeous!
Stormie Weather oh you’re awesome 😊🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼💯
Love their SPFs! Haven't tried the tinted though!
Been using this for 3 years now. I absolutely love it and have it on stock
I got the tinted version yesterday here in England. Price is £19,90. It is great. And it has both titanium dioxide and Iron oxide. Love it
This is super helpful! I didn’t even think about blue light. Thank you!!
Good to hear you learned about blue light! Thanks for watching! 🙏🏼🙏🏼🤙🤙
My favorites! I buy both and mix depending on the season.
I swear he has the best thumbnails.
Dylan Williams thank you so much! I have an excellent manager who does a great job. I’ll let him know you said that. Appreciate it, my friend🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
Yes you tan!!! ;) Love your videos !!!! Thank you so much dr.
OMG that blue screen!! I think I'll get tinted sunscreen when I'm done with my current one. Thanks for the tips, Dr. Dan!
Great! Hope you like it! Thanks for watching 🙏🏼🙏🏼🤙🤙
The only thing is that the white cast with mineral sunscreens is more noticeable when exposed to sunlight, it gives me a ghost face look. So maybe show what they look like out in the sun too.
I love LaRochePosay, but also having sun allergy I cannot use the sunscreen from this branche (sun allergy protector). To white, block pores, too much heavy, sticky, shinny very uncomfortable. I appreciate your information as Dr. Thank you.
OMG I LOVE BOTH PF THESE PRODUCTS!!!!❤
Hey i love your video, They’re very informative! But may i ask if it causes any sensitivity on the eyes? Cause some sunscreen I used made my eyes tearing up after 30-60 minutes of use, and i wonder if this one does that, thank you so much!
I really like his reviews
Thanks! I was debating between tinted or not! This helps a lot!
So good to hear! Thank you so much for letting me know that it was helpful to you and hope you like the sunscreen. Take care 🙏🏼🙏🏼🤙🤙
thanks for this video. it helps to compare since i also have skin type 3
Of course- thank you so much for watching!🤙🤙🤙
Interesting tinted seemed to blend in better but I’d rather use the more effective one especially in Hawaii! ! Have a nice day Doc!🤙🌈🌺🌴got my sunscreen on and going out now!
ayame Naka thanks for watching and take care!! Aloha and mahalo nui 🤙🤙😊❤️
I'm pale AF so the nontinted white cast is the perfect tint for me 😃 I've literally used cornstarch as a setting powder before and it worked 😩😩
Love be pallid
It is a Universal tint! I thought it was crazy dark when I saw it. And I Am extremely fair. But it worked amazing and totally blurred my skin, I don't wear regular makeup ever.
The tinted side really seems to have made a nice difference.
Informative and simple video, thanks ! The tinted one is not fragrance free though? What's your take on sunscreens with fragrance ?
Yes, they’re both fragrance free. I’m at rite aide looking at them now lol
Thank you for sharing!
Thank you for watching!🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
Amazing how it works on different types of skins.
I use the "invisible" (non tinted) one and it doesn't leave a single white layer on my face, it's very comfy for my face. I use a different type from same brand for the rest of my body and that one is kind of oily and do leave some kind of white layer.
It's sad for me the fact that I can't wear the tinted one, on my face it looks ridiculous, like I was trying some kind of light "black face". Not cool at all. It makes me sad because I struggle with melasma.
I had several samples but I honestly look ridiculous. I gave those samples to my mum, who doesn't have melasma fortunately, but she's also fair skinned and she felt ridiculous too. Like she was putting on a very fake tan.
I wish the "invisible" one had the same protection against the factors that causes melasma than the tinted one.
What are we, faired skinned people supposed to do? I cannot quit contraception pills because of endometriosis.
I'm from a third world country, I'm not even "white" in US terms, yet I'm very fair skinned because my skin is super sensitive. Neither my brother nor me were ever able to tan, we always got blisters and fever if we didn't cover ourselves on sunscreen. I use it all year.
After watching your videos, I buy tinted one today. Hopefully will work..
@Dr. Sugai is it enough to use BB cream. For example, la roche anthelios also have bb cream line that have spf50... Thank you for all your videos
Thank you Dr. for this video it was very helpful, I have very bad discoloration due to Melasma I never knew of the differnt causes that can make it worst. I just brought the tinted one. I am going to be trying it now 😁
Thanks Doc, Imma get the tinted one
Dr Sugai you should make a skin type video, I don't know my exact tone and undertone and I think that I'm not the only one.
Meli de O. That’s a great idea! Thanks for watching! 🤙🙏🏼🤙🙏🏼
Do you think titanium only is enough to protect us from UVA and UVB? What about zinc? thank you dr.
Thank you
Was very helpful
Thank u for another great content. I’ve been using Anthelios recommended by my dermatologist in Canada since early 90s. But since I’ve discovered Asian sunscreens, I’ve been using them more. Can u do a review on Asian sunscreens like Aqua Biore and Shiseido Anessa line? Also can u do a vlog on how to take care of or prevent hyperpigmentation and melasma especially among Asian skin. TIA.
JNG Mom all great suggestions and I am noting those products now! Thanks for watching and see you for the next video! 🤙🤙👍👍
The Anessa Perfect Milk is some of the best in the world along with Bioderma and P20
@@dylaustin8 yup, but anessa don't have tinted sunscreen. Im looking for tinted one. Confuse between la roche and innisfree
Both look O.K. Tinted ones are great for making the skin look more uniform and flawless👍. My favorite sunscreen is EltaMD Physical tinted=looks great and gives me UV protection in one product😁
Wendy Campbell I love that one too! Thanks for watching! 👍🙏🏼🤙
What about the la roche posays mineral 50 spf which contains talc as one of its ingredients? Is it considered safe for everyday use since talc is carcinogenic?
Did you find the tinted to be any “heavier “ than the non tinted? This non tinted is the ONLY sunscreen I have found that my sensitive, oily skin tolerates and has a cast that I can deal with. I tried another tinted brand but hated how you could see the tint on my mask, so I am glad you mentioned that happened with this one as well.
Diana Johnson great question- I feel like it comes out as a thin liquid as well like its non tinted counterpart but it definitely can collect into thick tinted clumps when my face is dry that becomes very noticeable. The mask tint is real and thank you for appreciating that part. Thanks for watching, friend! 🙏🏼🙏🏼🤙🤙
Dr. Daniel Sugai I’d also love to hear your thoughts on Sun Bum Original sunscreen. 😉
Do you find the non tinted to work well under makeup? And, i know u have oily skin, but do u find it to be hydrating?
@@dianajohnson738koo(i
@@clisaa6974 I don’t wear face makeup, so I’m not sure.
Gracias por sus videos con subtítulos en español
Me gusto mucho más con tinte❤
I can't find the mineral La Roche available in NZ :(. I am going to try their sensitive eye range as that's my main concern with SPF.
A popular dermatologist on UA-cam claims that in order to protect yourelf from visible light, you need a specific type of zinc oxide - that is pretty difficult to find in most sunscreens because it is cosmeticaly difficult to apply - and also, iron oxide which is found in tinted sunscreens. Conversely, I have watched other dermatologists, such as yourself, that claim an iron oxide is plenty to protect against visible light. Which is it? There is a ton of conflicting information on the internet about it.
I don’t usually used tinted sunscreen but love this tinted one. I have very stubborn melasma and this helps to mask it. I did read that titanium dioxide does not protect against uva rays as well as zinc oxide? Is that true? Does that mean the tinted sunscreen is worse since it only has titanium dioxide? I love the product but if it’s not protecting against the sun as well then that’s not helpful! Thank you! I really enjoy your videos!!
Sadly that's why u stopped using it, titanium dioxide isn't the strongest for uva 1 , it blocks some but it's still very weak compare to zinc!!
Hi Dr Sugai, my morning routine is I apply HA & Niacinamide, Vit C, & moisturizer and when I apply the Tinted Laroche Posay Anthelios sunscreen SPF 50 it starts to flake or somewhat peeling?
PS: My nightly routine is Cleanse, lactic acid and moisturize.
Hope you can help. Thank you in advance.
I prefer the look of the tinted as an African-American but titanium dioxide only is a dealbreaker for me 😩
Since the tinted one only has titanium dioxide, should we be concerned about broad spectrum coverage?
I as well wish He would have responded to that question ⁉️
You could have tried both on the same side after as well.
How can I figure out if I'm skin type 1,2,3, or 4? Thanks!
when would I used tinted vs non? still kind of confused between the 2
Hi Dr. Daniel would you recommend wearing tinted sunscreen under mask? Will it give breakouts?
Thanks!!! This is so helpful!!
Thank you for the video. Dear Doctor my skin tone is 1. Can I use the tinted one? Plz answer 😊
Dr.Sugai can you please do a review on tinted Elta MD sunscreen?
Thanks for this video, is the tinted not bad for your skin though Because it's like foundation?
Will it still be as effective if the tinted one doesn't have the zinc like the non tinted one? And is the tinted one non comodogenic?
Tinted one suits your skin tone better
Which one is the best for dry skin non Tinted or tinted.
Great video dr😊
Sandeep Mangat thank you so much Sandeep! Appreciate it 🙏🏼🙏🏼🤙🤙
I'm fair with pink undertones "redheaded" ...what about mixing the two?
I love this sunscreen fluid but doctor what about denatured alcohol on the third place :(
Thanks lots lots Doctor I
But what about applying tinted to your neck? It might ruin some clothes’ necklines. I think st that point you’d want to have both which can get expensive..
Is there one that doesn't have zinc in the ingredients? I got one for $ 30 at walgreens but I don't see the ingredient in there? Or is called something else jw. Im hearing good things but not sure if the ingredient is in there. Please let me know.
Omg bestie were the same Fitzpatrick types x
I just purchased mine today and I bought the wrong one. I bought the non tinted one😭 when I have a medium tan skin. When I swatched it on my arm, there’s definitely mild cast. I couldn’t return it because I bought it at CVS in different city like super far away from my city. I guess imma keep using it until I ran out lol
You might be able to return it at any CVS! I’ve done that with Rite Aid lol
Neutrogena has a great tinted moisturizer
Does aluminium oxide also world like iron oxide.
Tinted looks great! Maybe I’ll give it a try after my Elta md runs out
Susan Sugai yes- I think you will like it!! Thanks for watching ❤️🙏🏼❤️🙏🏼
@@danielsugaimd Is the tinted one make up or is it a moisturizer? For example, do I need to use make up remover and then cleanse with the tinted one? Can you sleep with the tinted one on? Usually I avoid foundation & powder because my skin is sensitive to make up. I also have an olive skin tone so I’d like to avoid a white cast that makes my face color look different than my neck.
Is it moisturizing? Or should you still apply moisturizer before or after sunscreen?
Thanks doctor
My experience with tinted sunscreens is that they stain washcloths, towels, white shirts, etc.
Ulysses Payne thanks for sharing your experience with tinted sunscreen and thx for watching 🤙🙏🏼
Sunscreens with iron oxide stain like crazy and are difficult to wash off. Japanese sunscreens and titanium-zinc only sunscreens don't stain which is why I like them. Some chemical sunscreens stain as well (one I recently used was the Altruist).
Hi. I follow you on tiktok also and you are so amazing. Is that sunscreen is for combination skin too? Thanks
Hi, Mary- thank you for supporting on my other social media channels!! This sunscreen is great for combo skin but dry areas can pill/clump at times esp if peeling. I still love it though - both tinted and non. Take care and thanks again!
Another video should be the best affordable tinted sunscreen, cerave, laroche, supergoop, cotz... based on the skin tone...In my case I'm Hispanic and I need a tinted sunscreen similar to my skin tone.
Meli de O. Great suggestion! Affordability is everything too 👍thx for watching 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
I see dr vanita video- she says anthelious light fluid sunscreen tinted has alcohol and bad for skin ????
Between elta Md and this la roche Tinted which one u find better ?
Can you mix these together without risk of compromising the effectiveness of the uv protective ingredients?
Same question!
Can you recommend me a mineral tinted sunscreen that doesn't have a matte finish because I’ve dry skin so I already have that matte look. Btw my skin colour is pretty similar to yours.
Does it seems ok to use tinted sunscreen if u have oily combination acne prone skin and currently using tretinoin acne treatment cream which is making the skin to flare, little dry and mild peel?
I guess I shouldn’t use the tinted if I’m about to start retinol because my dr. said it may cause dryness?? Thanks
It seems the elta md clear tinted has dried out my face, could it be the zinc oxide? If so would this tinted sunscreen be best since it doesn't have zinc oxide?
Which one is the best for mens.
Non tinted personally! Both look good though.
Charlie Z 👍👍👍thanks for watching Charlie! 🙏🏼🤙🙏🏼🤙
Wondering if it suits on brown skin or does it adjust to skin colour which I doubt …
I love tined sunscreen because I'm heavy-handed with the sunscreen.
Hi Dr, is the tinted version suitable for oily acne prone skin type?
Gracias!
Great video! Can you review Colorescience face shield? I’d appreciate it so much. Thanks!
Thank you and I will add to the list! Thank you for watching 🙏🏼🤙
Any concerns with the fact that the tinted sunscreen is missing zinc? I know titanium dioxide doesn't provide UVA1 protection (only UVAII and UVB). Do the other ingredients (like the iron oxide you mentioned) make up for that?
This is what I'm concerned about! I'm not getting no info.
Me too
Came here to comment the same thing :/
What does Zinc do?
Dr. Daniel is the review for DRMTLGY broad spectrum spf 45 review coming soon?
Luis Cabrera hello my friend- I will film this soon and release! I wanted to give it several weeks of use before making a judgment. Thanks for checking in! 🙏🏼🤙
I like the non tinted on you, but this is what I normally do: I use a sunscreen without tint and then add the DRMTLGY tinted spf 46 universal tint on top. (I used the DRDANIEL code to buy mine BTW :)
Do you recommend wearing a non tinted sunscreen under a tinted sun screen? What are your thoughts?
I was wondering the same exact thing
people typically do not apply the correct amount of sunscreen needed for adequate protection, so a second layer is recommended by Dr. Ray here on youtube. She says to apply one layer than wait 5 mins to reapply again and from there just reapply for the rest day. You only need to apply two layers when you wake up and later in your day when you NEED to reapply sunscreen you just need one layer.
Isn't titanium dioxide an inferior UV filter that does not cover the full spectrum of aging rays of UVA1 and UVA2? I think the non-tinted product with zinc is better in terms of UV protection
FJ yes- uva1 and 2 are covered better by zinc. But non tinted does not have iron oxide (no visible light coverage) and thus there’s a trade off for anti-aging purposes. But in regards to uva protection, probably could say that there is a theoretical benefit of using zinc for skin cancer prevention purposes since UVA can induce dna damage (more so with UVB). Thanks for the comment. 🙏🏼🤙
@@danielsugaimd love that you respond to every comment. May I request a review of purito comfy water sun block spf 50? Would also really enjoy more scientific commentary in your reviews eg. Bioavailability of antioxidants in suncreen.
Dr. Daniel Sugai can we use both together (tinted and not tinted) to get the full protection?
I have oily skin so would either of this good for oily skin? Thanks
Doc, why sunscreen burns always my eyes???
It looks like the white cast disappears mostly very quickly
Hello dr . . Is it good for oily combination skin
Can I mix the two?
Does the tinted one oxidize? I have really fair skin
