I've seen these little cars for years and always enjoyed seeing them parked as I walked by. My wife and I went car shopping with a couple of my kids this past Memorial Day weekend and nothing I test drove really spoke to me. At our last dealership, I test drove a red 2011 NC MIata with my 15 year old son. He said, "I get it Dad, you got to get this car". My wife said it was impractical, but I told my son to work on his mother. LOL. Long story short, a few days later, with her blessing, I bought it. I am 60. I never knew a car could be so much fun. I just love it. Shifting through the gears, driving around curves, just brings a smile to your face. Just looking at it in my garage puts a smile on my face. First thing I did was get a set of rx sunglasses and my wife bought a long scarf so we could ride in it like in the movies, I know, corny! Watched 1 youtube video, must have hit the like button, now I've seen a ton of these reviews. I had no idea the Miata had such a following. I totally get it. In all these youtube videos, the recurring word is "fun". I can see myself buying a newer model some years in the future. I would recommend any version of a Mazda Miata to anyone. Chuckle, I just love it, so much fun!
So many amateur car enthusiasts get hung up on the numbers(HP, Torque, Gs, etc) and they ignore that it's about driver engagement, not straight line speed. Aside from the Miata which proves that fun performance driving is about engagement and sensory input, many classic Porsche enthusiasts prefer the older late 60's early 70's 911s for their engaging driving experience. despite the low power outputs of that 911 era. The old adage applies for people who truly enjoy spirited daily commute street driving; it's more fun to drive a slow car fast, then to drive a fast car slow.
driver engagement is exactly why I won't spend 30-40k on a miata, I'll wait for them to depreciate and if I want one go with an old one because they're still fun, rn in a c5 vette and it's so fun

He bailed so 2 hours later I showed up with a cheque and bought it. I sold it since and looking to buy an ND2 club soon 😁 Miata Is Always The Answer

In March of 2017 I test drove a 2016 Club with the Brembo / BBS package in Artic White with the Black aero bits really shows the contrast between the 2. Also while most people buy these for good weather weekend toys this would be my daily in 4 season Northern Illinois. Going on 4.5 years now & when snow days happen the winter tires make it almost as much fun as the sunny warm days to drive. Mazda does the manual gearbox & super light clutch to perfection. Really didn't think it would be so good in bad weather but it impresses me everyday. So much fun wrapped up in a very small package.
Agreed. I used to winter drive my 94 Miata in Chicago winters and leave my quattro Audi A4 in the garage. Snow tires makes it as fun in winter as in summer.
Agree , too many garage queens or weekend toys. I daily drive my 2016 Club soft top on some of the worst weather days & its always been nothing but spectacular ! My only problem so far was the windshield wipers do not keep up in monsoon type rains ! That was one time I had to pull over into a parking lot LOL & wait for 5 minutes !
Amazing what little/no rev-hang does for enjoyment... Honda, take a lesson and stop the BS with the asinine, CRAZY rev-hang! Have owned 3 Mazda vehicles, all manual trans and all were great vehicles. Mazda just 'gets it'.
That Orange 🍊 Anniversary edition is the only color I would have chosen instead of the red. Although, I will say even though I am not a grey guy especially on sports cars, their grey when it was combined with the red interior was a nice combo.
Great review. I've driven every gen of the Miata or MX-5. The ND2 MX-5 is my favorite without question. Has enough power you don't have to make excuses on why you own it. Handles great, looks great, reliable, and fantastic fuel economy.
Great video Kirk. You would tell me years ago (previously muscle cars owner) that I would own one day an MX-5 and I would laugh out loud. Since I own a soul red ND2 RF Club I enjoy every moment I drive that car without driving to an excessive speed that I would lose my license. You are right about the wow effect of the RF. Every weekend I park at the mall, there is always somebody who compliment me about my car... no specific consumer age - kids to retired persons !!! Like other MX-5 owners I will keep this car for a long time!
Driving this car makes me cackle. That ability at almost any speed is one of its greatest assets. Just be careful on hard lefts with the top up if you are 6’ and above, ouch! Great review.
Honestly the infotainment is really simple and easy to use, it might not be the most current system but as you say, who cares when the rest of the car is so good, mine just connect to Bluetooth with no drama, car play is wired in my market but again no drama to plug it in. It also sounds pretty good.
Definitely a vehicle I will have to consider for my fun daily driver that I don’t have to worry about fuel mileage and being too fast for the local traffic.
I'm also quite interested in a potential RX-9, especially with the recent rotary emblem leaks and the patents showing the back structure of an RX-9. Perhaps they can overcome the downfalls of the rotary with some sort of hybrid or plug in hybrid setup. Kind of like a reverse MX-30 with rotary range extender, but instead the RX-9 will have a primary rotary engine with an electric motor to assist. If Mazda can keep the price in the $30k to $40k range, I'm gonna have a really hard time choosing between the Miata, RX-9, GR86, and Integra.
Totally agree ! Mazda if your reading this , the MX 5 is a fun car so you have to have fun colours ! Bright colours equally as good as the soul red . Grey tones are more luxury oriented colours. This car stands out and so should the colors ! Yellow, Orange (not 30th), bright sky or baby blue, metallic 70s green (would look good with a basic stock car black rim ) , gold. (Make a gold edition for the final gas mx5 ). Also have an option for white letters on the tire rubber ! Makes the car more racey and more true to its heritage Mazda do this please.
Been watching for a few months, nice to see someone else on the younger side who also lives in Naples! I have a black-on-black 15' 911 Carerra S (the last of the n/a engines) if you ever feel like reviewing a german sports car, feel free to message me!
@@KirkKreifels I hear ya! Welcome back to Naples. It gets younger here every year. Wife and I are in our late 30's, we notice more and more younger people here all the time. P.S. Man, Venetian Village is gorgeous, seeing this vid (and other recent vids) makes me want to take a drive down there. Hopefully this weekend. Keep up the good work!
I added Flyin Miata sways, and a active exhaust, few other mods. Not that I needed it - more for fun. I just preferred the flat cornering, it just grabs and digs into corners now. The Brembo package- you can do better, 4 Wilwoods (instead of two Brembo) and lighter stronger wheels for less money . There are a ton of after market choices if you like to personalize this little car. Stock or Modified this car is just so much fun! Drive one, bring your checkbook:)
What is it about this one we don’t get? I’m pretty sure the color is available, and the brembo brakes as well. I recall this color (or similar) for the 2020 version. Do you mean the seats?
My 2018 ND2 RF has a lot of the things this one has. Really only missing BBS wheels/Brembo breaks, and the little wing. And we dont get the ugly sharkfin here! So nice. Love my Mx-5 :)
Another sports car is the Mazda 3 turbo hatch you get alil more room plus your quicker at 5.6 0-60 . I test drove that same one at my dealership however my wife said she wasn’t comfortable. To small so we went and test drove a WRX, a JCW mini copper, a GTI, and a type R Honda . Out of all of them I test drove the Mazda 3 wins hands down. That’s why I bought it and my wife fits and is comfortable plus we have some room to put stuff in the trunk!
@@KirkKreifels it’s definitely fun. And looks amazing it’s my first Mazda ever in my life and I can say I truly love my car. My wife says I love it more then her lmao. It’s only cause the Mazda does what I want and never talks back !! 🤣🤣🤣👍🏻
If only the turbo came with a MT. I'm driving the last gen 3 hatch with MT and it's so fun to drive. Being 6'2" I can't go smaller than the 3 though. Hopefully they'll make the turbo available in manual in the near future.
@@jaquatics it has a auto stick, plus you can use paddles, plus you can drive just auto so you have 3 option on how to drive it. And you have sport mode so plenty of things to do to keep the fun going don’t always need a MT to have fun Mazda prove this in 2021 Mazda 3 turbo. Close ratio six speed auto a very tough transmission well hold up to a lot of abuse.
Definitely a guaranteed like from me on this video. That’s my exact color/configuration… without the Recaro/BBS/Brembo goodies. Just bought the side skirts and the rear diffuser. Great review! I wonder how much more comfortable the GT is? Never test drove one.
Having ridden 1000cc super sport motorcycles for nearly 20 years, I can confirm. Straight line speed is fun at first, but eventually you realize all the fun happens between 30 and 60 mph. Slow car fast for life.
Ok, so I have a 2021 RF. I don’t understand people saying it has big blind spots. Sure the rear window is a slit but I never have a problem knowing what’s around me. I had a ton of blind spot learning when I first got my Mini Cooper but not this car. People please stop saying this car has blind spot issues.
well said and fully agree! not to mention either mx-5s have the 'blindspot assist' that is a very bright amber/orange color even in the daytime,so yea i cant see either why ppl talk about the 'blindspots' while having the blindspot assist.the 350z HAS HUGE blindspots and does NOT come with any blindspot-assist..i test drove that car and that was a huge concern for me about it then,so i passed on it,i couldnt believe nissan never offered that even in the 'touring' trim i drove.but the mx-5 has it =)
For me soft top is the way to go: - 2s for closnig or opening the top - Significantly less noisy on the highway So in the long term of the ownership for the above mentioned resons you will be driving more often with a top down (soft top) or top up (RF). So It’s a matter of wanting roadster or coupé with a big sun roof option. RF has better looks, but you buy MX-5 for your pleasure not to impress others
Fair point. Anyway, you can’t go wrong with Miata so long so you go for manual 🙂 It’s a brilliant car. Regarding seats, I am 6 ‘3 and I have recaros. They seat a little bit lower than regular ones which makes that important difference for me. And thanks to them being alcantara I don’t slid and hit my knees under heavier braking. And they do their job on track days. The regular ones are more comfortable thou.
You'll be having more pleasure driving the RF in winter or when it's raining, it's much more livable with the roof up than a soft top. If I lived in someplace like California or Arizona I'd get a soft top, anywhere where it rains routinely or that has 4 seasons, I'd get the RF unless your only using the MX-5 as a 3 season car.
@Brandon You’re right. Having 4 seasons I would probably go for RF it it was my only car. And yes I use it from Spring to Autumn. For winter I use 300hp manual AWD :)
there is no blind spot on the driver side if your mirror is set up properly It feels like there is,, but I guarantee you if you actually go test it as soon as the car leaves your mirror you'll be able to see it on your left without craning your head. I think it's a mental artifact of driving bigger cars. The MX-5 competes with the Toyota GR86/Subaru BRZ, not so much Supras. That choice essentially comes down to whether you want a convertible or a little extra practicality (ie storage space).
Hey! What a coincidence! I have been watching MX-5 reviews and happened upon yours. I have a place in Naples. Heading there on Wednesday. It was fun to watch your review and see that you were in Gulf Shore Blvd and even drove by the Haverty’s where I bought furniture. It also looked like maybe you were in Park Shore near the village shops on Venetian Bay. (Your parked shots.)
Good review, i feel right like you with my ND RF. Just have fun with it. Specialy in the mountains. I am from europe, and the alpes is wonderful with this car!
It seems that the direct competitors are the BRZ/GR86 siblings, not the Supra or Z. The BRZ/GR86 have more power, quicker, great handling, great manual trans, more practical space and come in at less than 30k.
@@brandoncomer6492 gr86 has a more aggressive front bumper and the suspension tuning gives more oversteer for drifts. The brz feels incredibly planted and stable 🤟🏻
If you live in Japan, there are no 25-year restrictions, so it's fun. If you want to buy a car, it must be a used car. You can buy a used car (new car) that looks like a new car at a reasonable price.
The base Miata or the club soft top are pretty good values. The RF is pretty overpriced plus I don't care for top down so I would've rather just had a cheaper hard top.
Give me the soft top all day every day. Cheaper, lighter, more open top, looks better when the top is down, no chassis rigidity loss, and hardly any more NVH. It's cool the RF is an option, but ain't for me.
@@ohroonoko I think you misread my comment. The soft top and RF have equal chassis rigidity, to my knowledge. Or, any decrease in rigidity in the soft top is negligible, and can be cleaned up with chassis bracing that a lot of us will add anyway.
I really enjoyed watching this video. If I didn't also need some practicality out of my only car I would be very compelled to buy a Miata - I currently drive a 2018 Mazda 3 sedan 6MT to fulfill that need. Miata is such an amazing car
Great video Kirk! You mentioned it would be nice to have more colors for the Miata. I'm a grass is always greener guy, any idea what Mazda plans for the next Miata? Or when to expect it?
2020 ND2 RF GT - you’re correct - hits about 62 mph in 2nd just before redline at 7500 rpm at under 6s easily and consistently. And the engine is very smooth the whole trip to 7500. Not numbers to brag about, but the sensation of speed under 80 mph isn’t a complete illusion. 😆 Playing with tuning, it’ll do considerably better. I’ve seen 60 in 5.4, and I think I would see better with other tires. I don’t want to drive around on a regular basis with that kind of tuning, but will set it up that way for my next track day soon.
Its not for everybody .... it fits like a glove to most people under 6 foot. I don't feel cramped & the space it gives between both the passenger seat plus the trunk is very good.
Great video, very honest review. I wonder what the video would be like if you drove a Toyota MR2 Spyder, 2003 or above, 6 speed manual with the top down...I know it's an old car, but soo much fun, and way cheaper !!!
Great casual review, more about daily driving experience and engaging with the car 😄👍. As much as I like the MX-5 soft top and the more free open space driving experience, I believe I will buy the hardtop due my cervical neck pain. I'm a bit worried to the buffet noise do, with open hard top 🤔🙄
I’ve had multiple MX-5s, all soft tops, and was concerned about this, too. Almost skipped the RF because of comments in reviews, and I’m a 90% top down type person. Have a 2020 RF GT, noticed it initially, but after a few months, it seems the same to me now. I think reviewers are looking for points of contrast, so it comes across a little exaggerated compared to actual experience. All convertibles are noisy above 50. The RF has 3 very distinctive feels. Top and windows down, it feels exactly the same as a soft top. The buttresses are completely out of awareness. I had an NB with a roll bar that I was more conscious of. Top down windows up, it feels more like a large sun roof compared to a soft top, but LESS noisy than every sun roof I’ve owned, including my current Mercedes and Stinger GT2. Top and windows up - it’s pretty nice. Not BMW/Mercedes nice, but much nicer than any soft top I’ve owned. It’s also cooler and warmer than a soft top in more extreme temperatures. Hope that helps.
@@kgm5330 Thank you so much for your valuable experience and feedback. The GT, if I well recall, it has leather seats, instead of Recaro seats. I was wondering about seat comfort/head space when combined RF with leather or Recaro seats. I'm about 1.87m or 6,13ft tall...
This or the GR86? Honestly Toyota/Subaru had the chance to make something that looks better than the MX-5 on both the inside and outside but unfortunately both fall short of the Miata. Having driven my friend's RF grand touring a great many times, I had so much freaking fun, I just wish the speedometer was easier to read. The numbers are very crammed together and there's a digital screen on the left but it doesn't show speed for some reason. I look forward to seeing how Mazda will handle making the hybrid next gen Miata without pissing all the purists off lol
@@calcal2030the new z is a bloated pig with an underpinning that is from the 350z (so two generations old). It weighs too much and you need to pony up $50k to get an LSD. I wouldn’t pick a z over either the gr86 or Miata if they were both free
I love the mx5. But the gr86 is more useable everyday because of that and overall gr86 is not that behind the mx5 well in terms of handling and has more power because of that gr86 is better in my book
86 will have Aisin transmissions(not to say Mazda's are bad), port injection negates some valve maintenance, and they have room for spare wheels "allegedly." Granted it's a flat four and that comes with it's own issues. Long term I'm more interested in the gr86 than the miata.
thank you! how tall are you? interesting you say you prefer leather seas to recaros. Also people say the wheel is too "big" but you say it is too small. For taller people it might be a good idea to be even smaller? Does anyone know if you can get a smaller Alcatara after market starring whee.?
There is always a gray one parked across the street from me. I would like to see one of these in dark blue, best color on a curvy roadster. They look nice but the design looks somewhat 'squished'. You under-drive your car. Push it a bit, and only down-shift when really necessary; light cars with good brakes don't need the tranny help. I'd still buy an older Solstice for way less money; quality aside.
Nissan z would be a better buy for 40k in terms of power. 40k isn't worth it imo. better off buying a used base and modifying. If money has no limits. Having a hard top is like having another passenger in the car. Cup car with a flying miata v8 package would be cool. Stock club is a good car. Full bolt ons is awesome. Nd2 with supercharger or turbo would be nice with tires, suspension, brakes and sway bars. Top down is the best drivers experience.
I'm 6'2". Otherwise I'd love one of these. I've tried and it's just too small to fit my long legs...that and I'm staring at the frame of the windshield.
@@jaquatics Guardian Designs and Paco Motorsports sells seat lowering rails that will fix all your issues. You will actually fit in the car and your long legs will no longer hit the dash. Don’t let being tall cheat you out of owning the best little affordable pure sports car on the road.
Do you want the convertible or something with a little more room for practical purposes, that's really about all that question comes down to beyond aesthetic preferences. On a performance level they are super close, the Subaru makes more power but weighs more, the result is pretty much a wash from an acceleration perspective, they're both around 6 second 0-60s. The Subaru has a little more room stretch it legs at higher speeds. They fixed the low end torque issue that was holding the GR86 back in previous years. The only other things that might be notable is that the Mazda Skyactive has a little better reputation for reliability than the Subaru boxer engines, and the Mazda gets significantly better gas mileage. The Mazda has a more premium interior, but I suspect most people would prefer the Subaru infotainment.
@@brandoncomer6492 Thanks for the reply. Gonna go with the GR86 because of the space and it being better to daily. Definitely a difficult choice. Miata is such a beautiful car haha
Is the slot-in optical disc deck (behind center console and below rear cemter storage) available for the USDM model? Also (just to confirm) is the Torsen diff standard on the Club model?
@@KirkKreifels What about the ODD? It will be disappointing if it's not being offered in this type of "lifestyle" vehicle... As for Bilstein, I dunno, besides being a famous brand name for shocks, is there any added advantage utilizing these "yellow" dampers in such vehicular (ie. MX-5) setup? Are other brands (eg. KYB) not good enough? BTW, I've heard that the LSD is not available on all AT models, is that still the case?
I hate to say this, you can't find an ND Miata RF with a club BBR (Brembos, BBS, Recaros) under 40k (new). I currently own a Club ND2 Miata and I love it, but I just can't find a BBR under $40,000. And at $40,000, you could just into some better cars or upcoming cars. That aside, love the video bro
I have a 2016 Club soft top with the Brembo / BBS package & when I bought it in 2017 it was under $29,000. The seats feel almost hammock like as they work very well for me. I've heard of complaints on the Recaros by more muscular guys on the forum. The seat is not for everybody.
I've negotiated 2023 RF Clubs with BBR package down to $35,500 + TTL = OTD price of $37,700. You just have to be willing to play hardball. Picking it up this week!
Mazda just need to put the 2.5 liter engine in the Mazda 6 into the Miata that will just be enough power for that car. The Mazda 6 engine is not that much bigger than the Miata engine, so it will fit fine. The 2.5 liter has Bore 89 mm and 100mm stroke and the 2.0 liter 87.5 mm bore and 83.1 mm stroke.
If they put a 2.5 liter it will make the car sell worse. The 2 liter version already sells worse than it's 1.5 brother because it's more expensive and because a lot of countries tax engine size
Same price as it’s always been, adjusted for inflation. You can’t compare it to cheap economy car pricing… because it’s not a cheap economy car. Getting a modern car down to 2,300 lbs. okay takes time, tech, and money.
I love the looks of this car and I have always been a fan of the RX-7 manual. And the gearbox was awesome. The twin turbos would kick in from second to third gear and you fly . So much fun. And this car looks a fun car to drive. Great review again. Thanks
I really want the Miata he’s go but it’s manual I don’t know how to drive manual and I live in Cali with California traffic , I am aware that there are automatic miatas but I am a leaning a little on learning manual. Can anyone give me advice weather to either drive manual or automatic
If your buying something sporty like a Miata, learn manual. It’s much more fun and rewarding. Not the best for commuting in stop and go but when you hit twisty roads you will really appreciate it.
I bought a manual nd Miata and I also live in Cali by San Jose, traffic really hasn’t been as annoying and tedious as I thought it would be. And this is my first ever time buying and driving a manual car.
Japan's population is declining rapidly, so I hope that many people will come to Japan to increase the population. A really small apartment costs $1,000 in the center of Tokyo. Bad people get caught easily. Sometimes there are some bad people in the east side of Tokyo, but it's still not a big deal. Like drinking and fighting. There are many fights a day in Kabukicho in Shinjuku and Roppongi in the morning. There are many fights a day. What's more dangerous is that if you go out to have a drink with someone dressed like a normal person in Kabukicho and they tell you that there is a good place to drink, it's a yakuza place and they will suddenly charge you $2,000. The only people who go there are those who drink too much in Shinjuku and get drunk without remembering and get taken away. In Japan, women can walk alone on the street at night 24 hours a day. If you are molested in Tokyo, just shout and you will be saved. In the morning rush hour, when the trains are like canned sardines before work, there are perverts, so it is better for women to take the women-only train. But it's important not to do anything wrong. You can finally get permanent residency with four inches of paperwork, a Japanese language exam, and an interview. It's really tough. If you get a job, you can get a work visa for a long time. In Japan, there is no difficulty in finding a job. In the beginning, you may want to practice your Japanese by working as a clerk at a convenience store or an izakaya. You will learn in no time. It's great!

I'm waiting for mine to come. 2023 in 4-6 months according to the dealer! Love watching your videos, Kirk
Great review. I've driven every gen of the Miata or MX-5. The ND2 MX-5 is my favorite without question. Has enough power you don't have to make excuses on why you own it. Handles great, looks great, reliable, and fantastic fuel economy.
Mazda should never stop building this special vehicle. It’s very unique and it represents Mazda.
Who cares about the infotertainment system, when we are having this amount of fun driving this lovely car.
Honestly the infotainment is really simple and easy to use, it might not be the most current system but as you say, who cares when the rest of the car is so good, mine just connect to Bluetooth with no drama, car play is wired in my market but again no drama to plug it in. It also sounds pretty good.
Thats right, the car itself is your best entertainment. I love my ND RF, my daily driver!
What
As someone who owned an RX-8 for five years, there are some major flaws that Mazda would have to remedy in an RX-9.
As someone who owned a RX7 FD, I loved that car to death even with some faults.
Makes the car more racey and more true to its heritage
Mazda do this please.
In a Miata on your way to buy some new shoes, that's a life worth living
It's the soft top for me, but you really can't go wrong with any Miata 👍
MX5 the perfect car AS IT IS .❤️. It’s wonderful.
Just test drove a 22 RF. Love the drive. Trying to decide if I can live with the tight cockpit.
Been watching for a few months, nice to see someone else on the younger side who also lives in Naples!
I have a black-on-black 15' 911 Carerra S (the last of the n/a engines) if you ever feel like reviewing a german sports car, feel free to message me!
Thanks George! Sounds like you have a beauty. I'll let you know. Considering covering Porsches as well but I only have so much time!
I’d be throwing my cup holders out because no one is drink or eating in my ND Mx5 ever 😎
i'll be glad if you notice, two years later, I'm taking that advice
That review was a treat 😎
I hold conversations in my Nd soft top all the time . No problem at all with sound.
Wow.... Looks great!! You in the US get all the best ones.... In Europe it wont get shiped 😔 this version of the miata
I’ll trade you a Honda E!
we have the yaris gr so its a better deal imo
Congratulations! Loved my time with the M3 hatch turbo
@@nachomandetailingservices1057- glad you like yours, but for me and many others, the manual adds to the fun in a way an automatic can never equal
You are missing out on the joy of heel-toeing even at low speeds on the road.
Definitely a guaranteed like from me on this video. That’s my exact color/configuration… without the Recaro/BBS/Brembo goodies. Just bought the side skirts and the rear diffuser. Great review! I wonder how much more comfortable the GT is? Never test drove one.
Hi Mister Miyada! I subscribe to your channel. I highly recommend it for those Miata enthusiasts. :)
People please stop saying this car has blind spot issues.
well said and fully agree! not to mention either mx-5s have the 'blindspot assist' that is a very bright amber/orange color even in the daytime,so yea i cant see either why ppl talk about the 'blindspots' while having the blindspot assist.the 350z HAS HUGE blindspots and does NOT come with any blindspot-assist..i test drove that car and that was a huge concern for me about it then,so i passed on it,i couldnt believe nissan never offered that even in the 'touring' trim i drove.but the mx-5 has it =)
For me soft top is the way to go:
- 2s for closnig or opening the top
- Significantly less noisy on the highway
So in the long term of the ownership for the above mentioned resons you will be driving more often with a top down (soft top) or top up (RF). So It’s a matter of wanting roadster or coupé with a big sun roof option.
RF has better looks, but you buy MX-5 for your pleasure not to impress others
I agree! But the RF also makes me happier looking at it, and that's totally for my pleasure :)
@@mkkoper RF automatic for me lol. Different strokes I guess they say.
For winter I use 300hp manual AWD :)
there is no blind spot on the driver side if your mirror is set up properly
It feels like there is,, but I guarantee you if you actually go test it as soon as the car leaves your mirror you'll be able to see it on your left without craning your head.
Hi neighbor! Yes, I was around all those spots 🙂
Very good review. The "RF" shows considerable evolution in performance and design. Thank you.
Dispit driving a bmw m140i and loving it, a mx5 was my first car and will allways be my personal benchmark in terms of fun to drive
Likely to be my post chip-shortage toy!
Furniture such as refrigerators can be found in many recycling stores. They are almost like new.
I would take the GR86 over this. But I'm a hardtop guy. If I was a convertible guy, this would be it.
the real question is why you'd take the GR86 over the BRZ
@@brandoncomer6492 Shots fired 😂
@@brandoncomer6492 gr86 has a more aggressive front bumper and the suspension tuning gives more oversteer for drifts. The brz feels incredibly planted and stable 🤟🏻
I have both. The gr86 is a better drivers car imho. Both are great
I love the grey shoes!
Thanks! I actually returned them as you can see a stain on the side in the video hahahaha. Got some caramel suede cole haans instead
If you live in Japan, there are no 25-year restrictions, so it's fun. If you want to buy a car, it must be a used car. You can buy a used car (new car) that looks like a new car at a reasonable price.
It's gorgeous. But it's a little pricey for what it is.
The base Miata or the club soft top are pretty good values. The RF is pretty overpriced plus I don't care for top down so I would've rather just had a cheaper hard top.
Best car for the price! Name a better car thats a hard top conv sports car for under 60k?
@@Jorge_moya bmw z4?

Blind spots on the RF are horrendous.
i saw one on the road and i had to take a second to think if it was a lotus
Have a shot of vodka every time he says "vehicle" and you'll be dead 1/4 way thru the video. Nice car though!
Great video Kirk! You mentioned it would be nice to have more colors for the Miata. I'm a grass is always greener guy, any idea what Mazda plans for the next Miata? Or when to expect it?
I'd take the soft top. Great car either way.
So torn between this and the new GR 86. My Corolla hatch is surprisingly sporty feeling but my CVT is sucking a bit of fun out of it
Love all your miata reviews! The RF looks amazing. The ND miata should hit 60 in 2nd gear, try max RPMs next time.
Playing with tuning, it’ll do considerably better. I’ve seen 60 in 5.4, and I think I would see better with other tires. I don’t want to drive around on a regular basis with that kind of tuning, but will set it up that way for my next track day soon.
This sweet car and the 2023 Nissan Z both have my attention. Not crazy about how tight the fit is in there for you though.
Its not for everybody .... it fits like a glove to most people under 6 foot. I don't feel cramped & the space it gives between both the passenger seat plus the trunk is very good.
It’s there an option to get the GT with the Brembo package? Or this same club but with leather seats instead of the recado?
Next Miata could just become a mild-hybrid to make it more efficient. A Skyactiv-X might go into it also for more torque. No need for heavy batteries.
Can't go wrong with either.
What about this or the new Z? If both are 40k, it is hard to choose. I have a 13 Club before and it was great but also 27k. For 40k, i dont know man.
86 will have Aisin transmissions(not to say Mazda's are bad), port injection negates some valve maintenance, and they have room for spare wheels "allegedly."
Granted it's a flat four and that comes with it's own issues.
Long term I'm more interested in the gr86 than the miata.
One review says the steering is big. Another says it's small.
Wtf
thank you! how tall are you? interesting you say you prefer leather seas to recaros. Also people say the wheel is too "big" but you say it is too small. For taller people it might be a good idea to be even smaller? Does anyone know if you can get a smaller Alcatara after market starring whee.?
When is this company going to make a car for Men instead of kids in go-carts
Imagine wanting a Miata in orange or yellow? Wtf does this dude smoke?
I found the hardtop to be louder under speed versus the soft top.
What would you said in a match mx-5 vs GR86 or there is no comparation between them 🤔
They could have upgraded the infotainment system interms of performance and screen resolution
I'd still buy an older Solstice for way less money; quality aside.
i just bought a new 21 RF GT in this color with white leather.
25 years, you can look at it!
How does the Nazda3 hatchback drive with a manual transmission? In comparison to this?
I never understood the limited colors Japanese manufacturers provide.
why spend 40k on a mx-5 when the nissan Z is around the corner.
I thought I would like being inside the Miata. Im 5 10, I felt claustrophobic, and I drive a corolla.
Haha it depends on the person. I fit like a glove at 6'1 but the recaro seats aren't as comfortable as the grand touring nappa leather seats.
MX-5 is a kind of car that a big company (like Toyota) can never make.
Please make a video about the future of the Nissan LEAF
Sadly Mrs. Bärbocks BABVVO law wont allow this in the next year without massive fines in Germany
I'm 6'2'' - 260 lbs. Do you think it could be too small for comfort due to my size? The car is absolutely stunning.
Yes. Car will be too small most likely. The grand touring seats might be most accommodating

Probably a loaded question, but which would you get between a 22 GR86 or 21 MX 5 RF?

I have a 2016 Club soft top with the Brembo / BBS
package & when I bought it in 2017 it was under $29,000.

Meh. Mazda has to make BIG changed to the ND to compete with the new 86/BRZ & Z in sales….
The car handles well. But it's way too overpriced.
Not really .get a lower trim level
Same price as it’s always been, adjusted for inflation. You can’t compare it to cheap economy car pricing… because it’s not a cheap economy car. Getting a modern car down to 2,300 lbs. okay takes time, tech, and money.
