Thank you for showing the first layer of contrast looking so messy, then applying the second layer and having it look good. I’ve seen so many contrast tutorials for DA and they seem to just apply one layer and it looks perfect.
Next level stuff this dude, the fact you’ve included some of the more basic ways of calling it complete and then elevating has really added to this one!
You have the BEST step-by-step guides on how to paint 40k, so far I've been following your Ork guides and, with enough practice, the results are out of this world, my Ork army is looking GREAT! Thank you! Your content is a gold mine! P.S. Ghaghskull guide next maybe?
brilliant I'm glad my content has been helping :D that means a lot. your doing the hard work though so well done and I hope you continue to get better and better. Gaz would be a massive task, so maybe in the future
You've done it again.... This is an amazing guide. I love it, keep em coming. I've completed my first space Marines watching your tutorials. And I am extremely happy. Wish I could show them to you. Where I struggle the most it's edge highlights. But these are my first minis. And you said it, I'll learn it and get better at it with time. So I don't beat myself over it I push myself to get better.
awesome I'm really glad your enjoying painting and I've been able to help. Highlighting is probably the skill that takes the longest to get to grips with but you'll get it. I'm sure you have already but make sure to watch my highlighting video :) If you want to show me what you've done then you can e-mail me at contactus@tabletopready.co.uk
16:35 A little tip of mine: before red contrast, paint a little line of bright silver in both of lenses filled with white. It will make bright more natural 😊
I just got into miniature painting a month ago and im loving it. This tutorial is really helpful as I was struggling with the highlighting. I'm gonna use it to help me paint disciples of caliban chapter
I’ve also just finished building my Dark Angels Combat Patrol, so this painting guide is a gem for me! This will be my first step into the WH universe 🤩🤟🏻 thanks for this! Your Deathwing Knight painting guide is also fantastic!
Thank you, Michael. I didn’t watch the video yet but I am quite sure it will be useful for me. I am new to the hobby and recently I got the previous Combat Patrol box of Dark Angels.
This was great to watch and learn, thanks! Especially helpful for me as I'm getting back into painting after taking a 25 year break lol. Really loving contrast/speed paints. They are such a game changer for painting :D
welcome back to the hobby :D I love the contrast paints and for my own personal armies its what I mostly use. paint some highlights on them and they look great. similer to the marine at the end of this video
Found myself enjoying the contrast version the best. Little deeper blacks, with a bit less of the light green highlighting, lead to a more DA feeling mini. Sometimes when there's a bit too much highlighting it can start to, at a glance, look more like a Salamander. Great work and thanks for the video!
I love this video and I love you. This video is on repeat while I paint, starting my very first army. I saw you did another DA video with the deathwing terminators, so if you ever fancy doing Ravenwing bikes I’ll be there, every day lol
I'm very new into this hobby and thank you soooo much for the tutorial. Crystal clear guidelines and easy to follow, liked and subscribed to your channel!
Man, i love your tutorials. You are my go to for Dark Angels and my Krieg army. I cant get the highlighting and red gun casing down like yours. Same for my plasma coils. So frustrating
Thank you for your work❤ I have always been painting them neon-like due to using GW's tutorial 😅 Can't wait to try your method-both classic and contrast one🤩
thank you. I do have a dedicated tutorial for highlighting, otherwise its just a matter of practicing and gaining that experiance, everyone works differenlty
@@TableTopReadyUA-cam yea me to don't get me wrong still looks great but the skarsnick highlight is what I'll be doing and thank you for that particular video also.
Hi, excuse my ignorance but how do you, and what do you use, to mount the various parts of the figure and how do you manage to avoid damaging the finished part during dismount and assembly? Great Channel!
most kits will come with a transfer sheet with all the icons on them. I talk about transfers in my beginner ultramarines and my very first video on the channel
I just cannot get on with Dark Angels Green. It’s just too dark for me. I love most contrast paints and am happy to use them but I feel like Dark Angels Green is just a smidge too dark. Much prefer the traditional method in that case. On the opposite end of the spectrum, Flesh Tearers Red is just *chef’s kiss*
The only flaw with your tutorial is that the Squig Orange color was discontinued a few years ago. Otherwise, an excellent tutorial for painters of any skill level.
wow, that dark angels contrast paint looks absolutely horrendous. Not talking about your painting skills but more about the paint itself. Definitely not going for that one

Same 😂
thats because I knew :P

I love your tutorials so much! They're so clear and easy to follow, and give such great results.

I cant believe you are doing this banger of a guide with my favourite chapter. Thank you Michael.
no problem. I'm painting some deathwing at the moment and really enjoying them

This tutorials really are the best and most approachable. Would love more help with paint consistency for highlighting. Seems to be the hardest part.
thank you. I do have a dedicated tutorial for highlighting, otherwise its just a matter of practicing and gaining that experiance, everyone works differenlty
Great video as always Michael. I think I prefer the darker look of the contrast painted marine. It's a bit more grim dark.
I love how the contrast marine turned out as well. just shows what you can do with contrasts :D
Lovely tutorial mate! Been great seeing you and your style develop and the channel grow. Hope you’re good, and will have to meet up sometime! Dave ☺️
thank you. I'm going to be at black dragon more playing games soon so hopefully I'll be able to catch up with everyone
@@TableTopReadyUA-cam look forward to it mate!
If I was painting a face without helmet for DA, what colours and order would you recommend?
go check out my beginner ultramarine tutroail or my terminator captain video for skin recipes
I'm doing commissions for someone, and this guide was super helpful in learning how to properly paint the first legion. Thanks for a great tutorial!
awsome :) I'm glad I could help
Next video how to paint deathwing, please.... Thanks by the way
I'm working on it right now
Where did you get that mold line removal tool with the long handle.
its a citedal scraping tool and I also like to use a needle file
Great video mate. Do you prefer moot green to skarsnick green for edge highlight? Think I prefer skarsnick
hmmm actually I prefered the skarsnik green. it was more regal and suited dark angels more. moot green is the current studio method
@@TableTopReadyUA-cam yea me to don't get me wrong still looks great but the skarsnick highlight is what I'll be doing and thank you for that particular video also.

Great Channel!
I have a dedicated video on assembling and getting miniatures ready for painting where i cover all of this :)
Sorry could i ask what do you use to attach the models to the jenga blocks, like blue tack?
its all explained in my getting your miniatures ready for painting video :) go check it out
@@TableTopReadyUA-cam Solid, Many thanks!
can you do that tutorial to orc?
I've got so many orc tutorials now, you should already find what your looking for :D but don't be surprised if I do more ork stuff in the future
How do you do the icons on the pauldrons?
most kits will come with a transfer sheet with all the icons on them. I talk about transfers in my beginner ultramarines and my very first video on the channel
@@TableTopReadyUA-cam thank you, big help.
how long should one wait to let a thin layer dry before adding on another layer?
not many painting youtubers reply to this btw…
It doesn’t take too long to dry. I always say dry to the touch. It will also look glossy where it’s wet
@@TableTopReadyUA-camthank you so much! I'll try this alternative method :D
Anyone else love dark angels green as a color. It's my favorite green
I love highlighting Moot Green onto Dark Angels Green. Feels fun.
mot greens a nice colour. maybe my favorite green infact
Can this be done using AP Speedpaints 2.0?
I've not used speedpaints but I'm sure it can. The steps and techniques are the more important thing I want people to take away from my videos
What files do you use?
i like to use a curved needle file with a flat side
As always your highlighting has no equal Michael.
your too kind
