@PeteTheWargamer Great video, but ... Aren't they called "The RISEN?" I'm, like, 95% sure that's the term that The Lion and other Dark Angels use in the lore.
I have a challenge for you Pete! (That I may very well be willing to buy the result from you if/when completed) - A Chaos Corupted Inquisitor! The idea is a rogue Ordos-Maleus (Daemonhunter) Inquisitor who after years upon years of exposure decided "if you can't beat them, enslave them in your own insane plot to achieve god-hood!" - He very much still considers himself an Inquisitor, just not one loyal to the Imperium. I'm curious to see how you'd create something like this - Would you make him in his 'mortal' form? Or as some sort of Daemon-Prince? Up to you (if you decide to take up this challenge at all that is)!
The six wings would be an interesting sight. The Dark Angels are already masters of weapons and equipment that is extinct to most of the Galaxy, it would be nice seeing them bring that stuff out again when the Lion reopens their vaults. Plus, the Hekatonistika, which is less of an official thing and more like many different orders within the DA that each dedicate themselves to specific threats that the rest of their brothers might not be prepared to face.
I read somewhere the Consecrator successor chapter were previously the Firewing of the hexagrammaton - guess which scheme I'm painting up my incursors as 🤌
I hope the Redeemed fold into the DA proper along with the Primaris. It would be pretty cool if they kinda got involved in the "we're redeemed. We must expunge the rest of the fallen." They paint their armour the green of the Dark angels. And hence, the DA continue on as they always have. The Risen and the Unforgiven moving together to hunt down the Fallen. The flavour is too cool to lose bro!
@@catcadev well, at least the lion is still his asocial, not taking responsibility, shitebag self And we know that he, like the DA is too spineless to deal in facts.
I absolutely loved seeing the lion both regain his memory and his legion - i can't wait to get more lore on him post-arks of omen, especially the fated Guilliman meeting. Especially since both men have had time to mellow and reflect, and also seeing how happy Lion was to just not be alone
A truly glorious conversion! Perfect even for a kill team haha. My one and only nitpick is to maybe had some of their powerpacks be from the mk 6 marines of 30K and maybe some more pouches because of years of getting used to scavenging anything and everything! But a helluva fine work! And when the new World Eaters models come out I reckon they'd be a good base for even more Redeemed Fallen marine conversions!
You should do a defiler/soul grinder conversion that brings them into line with the modern look of chaos models. Right now they’re very dated designs that don’t suit the organic look of more recent daemon engines at all

This is how I've been painting my homebrew Dark Angels...but I like how you've incorporated more of the checkerboard. Mine however are more pale in the robes and hoods ❤️
As there are in lore supposedly a few Deathwatch Black Shields that were Dark Angels, I'm hoping at some point in lore there will be a Deathwatch Black Shield who was a Dark Angel and he meets the Lion and kneels, the Lion knows he is one of his sons and his heart is loyal. So brings him back into the fold. Not a Redeemed, as he was never a Fallen (though perhaps his unit is), but a son of the Lion all the same... Also a Dark Angel, turned Deathwatch Black Shield, turned back into a Dark Angel, would be a pretty cool conversion if he kept both the black shoulder and Deathwatch shoulder but went full on Dark Angels iconography on the rest of his gear. Like the tilt shield, helmet, rosary arm, sword and bits from the Dark Angels Primaris upgrades sprue and various veteran kit pieces.
I started my own chapter during December last year and I made them all loyalist veterans from the great crusade that got to 40k after some warp shenanigans just so I could make dark angels in their original colors I loved them so much… and six months later GW introduces these Redeemed/Risen. Well… I’m too attached to my own boys now
Hey There Pete! You know, last night I had a vision: You were doing a video on converting a new Vlad von Carstein and or Necrarch model and it was glorious. You actually won an Oscar for it and were hailed as the greatest artist of all time. Sadly, when I woke up, no such thing was the case. Maybe in the future. (Day 19/60+)
Bruh. "The fallen would probably go through the Primaris process for the physical benefits" A minute later: "The fallen have had to make do with whatever equipment they could find so their armor is a mismatch of different parts" which one is it?
That guy toting all the weapons (Bolter, pistol, ANOTHER pistol, knife...) is one of the coolest kitbashes I've seen. Dude looks like he's ready for anything.
Its probably weird, but since I had never seen it before, but the green wax on the purity seals catches my eye so much. I love that detail. But overall I really dig these as a whole too.
I absolutely love this kit bash. I was thinking about turning a set of Dark Angels Vets into fallen/ redeemed, but after watching this, now I want to wait for this kit to come out so I can copy this kit bash.
While the kitbash is well done, I don't know if it fits the lore. I was kind of thinking "pick a lane" while I was watching that. If groups of the Fallen were trying to rejoin the Dark Angels, I could see them wanting to go Primaris as a show of good faith. But I could likewise see them not doing so, either because theye didn't want to or didn't feel like they deserved it. For me, this makes the lore and decisions you were making very confusing. If they went Primaris, they wouldn't keep their salvaged armour and wouldn't maintain that "anything that isn't nailed down" approach to wargear. They be properly outfitted for the first time in a long time and would fall in step. The idea of keeping their salvaged gear only really works if they stayed in pre-Mk8 armour. Otherwise it's just needless.
I understand and somewhat agree with your reasoning but if every space marine followed that logic then they'd all look pretty boring and samey. We'd lose those purely aesthetic choices simply because 'they'd just have the best of the best'. Take for instance the new Black Templars. Their armour, in many cases, has that archaic flair for no other reason than it looks cool (in the real world) and separates the chapters aesthetic from the Imperial Fists for example. Fur for the wolves, these leather straps for Imperial Fists and Ultramarines, lizzard skin for the Salamanders and so on. these kits are so expensive and GW could really go the extra mile to make these fitting for more than 2 oder 3 Chapters
Your modifications are both skillful and inspiring. One question, though. It seems many of your cutting and filing steps could be simplified with a Dremel (or similar) tool. Any reason why you stick with a blade and file?
I... really don't feel the primaris aesthetic for these guys. Like, lore questions aside, the whole point of the redeemed asethetically is they'd be old-tech, like Mark 2, 3 and 4 armour. I don't really get the point of making these guys if you convert them to what is esentially generic post-primaris dark angels veterans. The conversion's still good, I just feel like the point's kinda been missed.
I have a humble request. Converting up the Leviathan Terminator Captain into a Chaos Lord (the current one is pretty weedy). I keep looking at it and considering it, but just can't wrap my mind around what I want to do and how to make it properly chaosy. Thanks.
What do you mean "grey area between loyalist and traitor"? Of course they are loyal to the Emperor, unlike some other Dark Angels (not to point fingers) :P.
Love em to bits but sorry it feels like the flat black armor needs more than just an edge highlight, Even just a few swipes of a very dark grey drybrush would be an improvement.
The other question while I am on a role, instead of grey was there a reason not to use a dark blue? With black I like to hint at shade rather than the bright highlight and I started using the old midnight blue GW used to sell. I have since hunted for a similar colour and found that watering it down and mixing with black followed by a straight blue allows for that shading. By comparison the grey comes off really bright and the boots look like scuffed leather. Just a suggestion to an alternative.
OK, so this is not just you and I am genuinely interested in what the answer might be. But why do people paint grenades in 40k with metallic silver? It is not a thing in the real world and the primary reason grenades are painted to resist rust. So most are painted in the colours of the army they are made for, Australia for example using US grenades get them in a sort of flat olive green. So if you can pop and answer in the reply I would appreciate it.
Those Redeemed look absolutely spiffing; except for the checker pattern. Those look a bit busy to my eye. I feel that a simpler treatment would look more natural, and not detract from the rest of work. Still, these are great.
Hey Pete, unrelated question - how would I go about varnishing my custodes? Don't want to use gloss as it'll make it too shiny but don't want to use Matte either - anybody got any suggestions??
I love this video it really helped me with starting to paint the same project im doing with 20 spair primaris crusaders. The initiates a great intersessors and hell blasters, with neophytes looking really good as scouts for the redeemed. If your looking for a budget kit bash it is something i recommend, it didnt even feel like a kit bash because I magnetis everthing i have because been slowly driven mad by this hobby. but it was will worth the effort in this case.only thing thats going to be hard to do is getting some dark angels hoods to mix in as they havent been released yet. I think lt really ties together an army of mostly deathwing.
The big problem is that no redeemed should sport an Aquila on the breastplate: this become common in the post heresy times, but only the Emperor's children's were allowed to wear one during the crusade.
I really liked the video and the paint job. Although one thing that I would change is that I wouldn't use the primer as the base coat because if you make a mistake and get paint on it you are going to have to fix it with black and black paint are actually deferent from each other you might get deferent shades of black on the armor then.
Never heard of a fallen carrying two pistols or anything 😂 is there any other space marines that carry two pistols? I know it's possible with the old berserker kit but I was wondering if a character comes that way
I keep coming back to this video because it entertains me. It’s probably my favorite kitbash I’ve seen because you didn’t try and do anything crazy unrealistic and all of the artistic choices make sense for these marines. They really do look like commandos and that’s exactly what I’d expect. The next sternguard vets I make, I’ll be taking some inspiration from these
If yer intimidated by the cutting, you can always just modify the ones that only have the arms attached by the pegs and do some head swaps. Remember a little bit goes a long way.

What do you mean "grey area between loyalist and traitor"? Of course they are loyal to the Emperor, unlike some other Dark Angels (not to point fingers) :P.
You put the bladeguard shoulder pads on backwards. Beautiful conversions and beautifully painted btw 🤌
Are ya gonna convert a Stormcast Eternal hero into Sigrun, the protagonist of the upcoming Age Of Sigmar: Realms Of Ruin video game?
Love em to bits but sorry it feels like the flat black armor needs more than just an edge highlight, Even just a few swipes of a very dark grey drybrush would be an improvement.
Every time you make a new video, and I see the thumbnail and check the date, I feel absolute joy!
Thank you!
These look awesome! Think a mk3 helmet & power pack, and maybe a corvus helmet would look pretty good tho, with the whole knightley theme of the HH DA
maybe you should used black templar box. And have alongside that also a squad of thematic scouts.
I think lt really ties together an army of mostly deathwing.
at 1130, I wonder if these scavenger boys have diffrent colored guns. Some white, some red and some black since those are the most common to find.
you should kitbash the risen from the Lion book. and maybe the "lionguard", the small human militia from camarth
Fuck yes ! Riot space marine with shield and gun for maximum cheese ! We don't have enough of this aesthetic !
just when i thougt ... would be nice to watch a nice SM kitbash before bedtime 😅😅😅😅
I know it's possible with the old berserker kit but I was wondering if a character comes that way
This is awesome. I'm now debating changing my Dark Angels scheme. 😂
Great design. Also pretty nice that you picked a soundtrack that sounded like "dark knight" aka Batman 😅
I keep coming back to this video because it entertains me. It’s probably my favorite kitbash I’ve seen because you didn’t try and do anything crazy unrealistic and all of the artistic choices make sense for these marines. They really do look like commandos and that’s exactly what I’d expect. The next sternguard vets I make, I’ll be taking some inspiration from these
Can please a Krok model like in Trayzn's collection 12m tall, thank you.
If yer intimidated by the cutting, you can always just modify the ones that only have the arms attached by the pegs and do some head swaps.
Remember a little bit goes a long way.
Buuuuut... When they get the primaris treatment, they won't have to salvage armor pieces anymore 😁
Great kitbash, but could it be, that you attached the Bladeguard shoulder pads the wrong way round (on the shield guy and the leader)?
Kitbash Wolf Guard Terminators with the new sculpts !
Hey Pete I want to make a new kinda vehicle or character model for my Tau. Do you think you could make a video on that or let me know what kit(s) to start with?
Awesome stuff! Where did you get the hooded heads? From the old DA Veteran Squad?
"Looks like black's back on the menu boys!"
Good time to be a fan of the First.
could you make some chaos primaris terminators? we chaos players want some bigger boys too!
I think the bladeguard shield would have been better if you cut out a small chunk for the combi plas to sit in like those ww1 rifle shields
Any chance you could assist me in doing a similar scheme, but for deathwing terminators ?
Since no one seems to have mentioned it: you put the Bladeguard shoulders on backwards
Day 30 of asking for tyberos the red wake convertion (first month lets gooo)
