Trying to sing and play at the same time gives you a greater appreciation for just how talented people like Jimi Hendrix, SRV, Lindsay, Brad Paisley, Billy Gibbons, Hetfield and on and on really are! ✌🏻🎸🎼
I'm not a good singer by any means, but definitely and surely a great lesson to anyone who wants to pursue singing and playing. Definitely not an easy thing to do, great work!
@@joandrumz3176 Well, if you like nirvana, I'd probably recommend something like About a Girl first, if you haven't done that already. Playing melody and singing at the same time seems quite hard, though. Keep going, I guess.
Ffs do you really need a video for that?? just look for tabs It's very easy and repetitive, not to mention in general its better for you than looking at someone and doing exactly what he does
It took me over a year to get confident enough to play and sing together. It really is a different thought process. There are still so many songs that I cannot play and sing together. Just gotta keep at it. Great lesson, Lindsay! Awesome stuff, Marty!
Fantastic! Marty, this just makes me appreciate you more! Your generosity, sharing space on your channel, to allow Lindsey opportunity to gain some exposure and promote herself. I am a big fan and now a bigger fan. Good luck Lindsay and thank you for the lesson. I will be looking for you in future lessons.
This is so hard, and frustrating to do well. First I had to get over the embarrassment and self consciousness, then I started recording myself sing ling and playing and jesus.. my voice is horrible. I sound so much more high pitched than I thought my voice was. The strangeness of multitasking is the least of my issues, I can do that NP. But I just hate the sound of my own voice on a recording, hopefully if I keep at it then I'll get better. Hey, if bob Dylan can do it then I can do it.
Practice practice... the more you sing the more it strengthens the vocal chords. Also check your singing style. I tried to do really complicated singing styles and failed miserably. Now I sing more along the lines of my capabilities my singing is much better.
@@the_original_Bilb_Ono Well, just writing is probably the most important thing. You can go back and change the lines you dislike later or even rewrite the verses or something like that. The stuff I write sucks too, but it'll probably get better with practise. And you can write about anything you want, you can write about that the new coffee tastes bad or how much you love chocolate or something like that. Just write is probably the best way to not sound emo and cliche. And also reading great lyrics and analyzing what's great about them.
I would be SO HAPPY if Lindsay would do a lesson in which she teaches her song Waiting On You, and maybe include some loop pedal ideas for those of us who play alone without a band.
I learn so much from you. Massive appreciation. Thank you so much. “Play it … like talking to your talking to your friends” struck my brain because one of my magical academic and work superpowers is to touch type one thing, and have a completely different conversation at the same time. I can play guitar and make a grilled cheese sandwich at the same time, and now I just realized why. I’m really doing counterpoint; I’m not doing two different things simultaneously; I’m doing them together.
I always struggle with sing when I focus too much on playing the guitar right, so instead feeling the song, I end up thinking too much about what chords come next.
Your vids have been such a help while learning to play and thanks for keeping. I think the next tutorial you should is dragonfly by shamans harvest, it's one of my favorite songs
Most of the problems is you need to break it down into parts. Make it simple and take slow, just sing the best part for a while, just a few verses or even just the chorus. Learn 1 part playing and singing, once you get it to sound good, you can choose to take the next part of the song on, or even just keep playing the part you already know, until you feel comfortable, before you take on too much. Eventually you would have unintionally practice playing and singing enough that it just become second nature without you stressing about what comes next, because you have already memorize it by heart now. Just don't stress it.
I’m not even at the point where I can play that riff yet-I’ll get there-but it’s a great choice because when I see pros singing while playing lines even half as difficult, if I didn’t actually see it I would assume someone else was playing the guitar while they do it. Thanks so much for this lesson.
I like this song and she make it look easy to sing it and play it. I managed to pick up how she was playing this song quick on my guitar and I think I will use it to practice my singing and playing guitar together exercise thank I for the help
Thanks Marty and Lindsay, it appears that the guitar playing must rely more on muscle memory moreso than the lyrics which relies on brain memory. Both must be learned and practiced separately and then joined together.
What helped me a little bit with singing and playing was watching Dave Grohl preform everlong by himself live on UA-cam. And I say the same for many other singing guitarist just watch them live and see what they do.
Thank you, that's exactly what I was looking for. You should add 'lead' in the title so people that are looking to learn how to sing while playing lead find it easier. There's a bunch of videos out there.
Sounds like what you do is very similar to what my method has evolved into over the years. An interesting thing that I've noticed, is after the guitar and lyrics have been merged long enough, they fuse into a gestalt. I can't really separate them out again. I can't play the guitar part without the lyrics running in my head and if I don't have my guitar, I forget lyrics like mad! LOL
You rock Lindsay this makes great sense to me I can and do talk while playing at times with ease as long as I don't over think it. I will start practicing this at once and let you know if I have any breakthroughs. Thanks 1❤
One thing to try is transcribing a solo that has some big bends and change the bends by sliding up to notes instead of bending on acoustic guitar can get sone different sounds ,and also learn al the notes for each chord in the open position
Marty should make a Marty music without context video, because some of the stuff in his video are funny. An example is the freebird acoustic tutorial. Marty does a solo.
This isnt really how the clavicord part goes. They usually just rest for that syncopated part which is easier and sounds more like the recording. Occasionally I do hear that second quick note in there but not usually. There is more muting and staccato going on in the original.
I guess my question is, do you have to do this very deliberate process for every song, or does the brain get used to it and do subsequent songs become easier to pull off?
I just looked this up last night how do you know, this is the second time. And the first time I said you predicted something you told me you wired up my house and you were spying on me. I’m starting to thing you actually are Marty!
