    A little about me:
Sean Daniel is a man. A man of simple needs and desires. And the one desire, no, the one NEED, that stands above all is to spread the challenges, joy and intellectual stimulus of music to people of Earth and beyond.
Born on the mean streets of upper middle class suburban Chicago, Sean learned the ways of the world through the dizzying heights of success to the lonesome depths of failure and emerged with the promise of a better tomorrow reflecting in his eyes and fiery passion in his belly.
He plays and teaches guitar on his UA-cam channel where he regularly releases original music and projects to the adulation of legions of fans, who often compare him to Chris Pratt and one time Ryan Reynolds. He’s currently in the market for a nice leather jacket.

The way you explained how all of it comes together is exactly the experience Ive had. First came the fluidity on the Guitar, then my ear , then the whole mechanical thing. The singing slowly fell into place. Ive also developed to the point where I can sit at a Piano and play simple arrangements by ear. Amazing thing the way the mind works.

Holy Shi* -- the play only on the 1st beat to learn the rhythm is genius! I have really been struggling with rhythm and fell flat on my face trying to sing at a country jam because I didn't know the songs well ebnough and couldn't fake my way through where to change chords. . I tried your suggestion on some songs to practice and it was hard at first but it really started to click. Switch chords on the first beat too! Geez, no one ever really explained that, the chord changes were suddenly something I could feel instead of trying to memorize where in the vocals the chord switched. I also tried a metronome app that lets me only play the first beat and the other three beats are silent, that's a (good) beating as well!! I sound like an idiot but something really clicked here, THANKS GUYS!

Been working on this a lot lately. All it basically comes down to is just practice/repetition. At first it seemed impossible to do but just powered through it and have improved so much in the last couple of months. I have tried to have a conversation with someone while playing though and I just can't do it! Anyway great tips guys! ✌️

Thank u again for all the videos & the help that U have given the ones of us struggling.

I'm writing this while driving. Thanks for the inspiration. JK. Being able to sing and play at the same time just came with practice practice practice. Now it's become almost natural, I can separate the two which is key. I don't even think about it anymore. And often thinking about is a problem in itself. I can finally read music on the fly, play it, and sing the lyrics. It's a very wonderful thing! People ask me to play for them now, which honestly is very humbling.

I think you’re hitting on It Sean. It’s not about concentrating on the words. It’s not not about concentrating on the chord. It’s about concentrating on the beat. It’s really 3 things at once, and as with all things music, rhythmic context is always the pinnacle of importance

For me, there was a huge difference between playing other people's songs/singing & writing my own. Each had their own pros & cons. With other people's songs, you can kinda do both independently & slowly work the 2 together. As for writing my own songs, I looked at it like doing leads, simple rhythms during the lyrics(leads, mainly so they don't stomp on each other). Then more complex attention grabbing rhythm when they have to stand alone. Recording & playing along to either helps too... Hope all is well, take it easy...

I'm not Sean but I would recommend you to try imitating a singer you like (it's better if you do this with a lot of singers). He or she is doing certain coordinations (like placement of sound, intensity of sound, vowels, etc) try to copy them. Record yourself a lot while doing this. Over time you'll start to identify which sounds sound good or pleasant and also the ones that do not sound good.
      Hope it helps

Do you have any advice for playing fingerstyle and singing?

    • @mwj5368
      @mwj5368 3 роки тому

Hi Kojo! I learned as a boy to play fingerstyle because my instructor didn't like strumming, so I learned different fingerpicking patterns. Even to this day I'd much rather fingerpick and sing. I also like it better if there is sometimes a story or something interesting to say about my song. Last evening I played at an open mic. As I was picking I said how strange it was I ended up without planning one day blending in an original song of mine, a song still in progress, with the cover song. Like with many other times I performed I often had a story or comment. I blended in my original song "Signals" and told the audience my song was influenced from when I was a child I tinkered with electronics and with 5 watts used Morse Code (dots and dashes type of communication) and in my song I pick so it sounds like a radio "signal" so to speak. I also sent, with my playing, actual Morse Code for the word "love".
What is my advice for fingerstyle and singing or talking? I play harmonica and fingerpick too. Maybe that's why I can talk or sing and fingerpick at the same time. Get a neck brace and play harmonica while you pick. Also I don't have to think too much about fingerpicking because I've done it for so long.
Now a year has passed since your comment. Have you found anything about why most can't talk and play at the same time? Is there some neurological reason for it? Maybe it's something with my brain ha! Let me know with your searching what you found out so far. Also, when you're practicing at home fingerpick and talk about anything, practice doing it. At home I just think of things to say that are interesting that relates to the song I hope to perform... but maybe I'm not interesting ha! For example... like during the part of the song I played last night, there is this part about hitchhiking to San Francisco, California. I say while I'm playing how I've hitched many times in my life and would love to hitch to "San Fran", then the lyrics go... "Thought I'd hitch a ride to San Francisco. Gotta do the things I wanna do"... Spelling might be bad because in English I'm using "slang" words, like "wanna" instead of "want to", or "gotta" instead of "got to".
Wow this is long! I hope I helped in some small way. Actually I played terribly last night and still now the next day feeling bad about it, thinking about what I could have done better, and about why I get so nervous and have a hard time controlling it, "stage fright".

@Andres. You are a talented musician and vocalist. I have watched several videos of your performances and I am definitely a fan. Have you considered trying a more "relaxed" look on camera than using all the product in your hair? This is not a criticism. I think you may be even more handsome and appealing without the product in your hair , while demonstrating your command of the instrument and your vocal range. Again, this is not a criticism. Consider it a suggestion. Ignore it if you don't like it. With much respect and a desire for even more success...God bless my friend.
