That Bee monster is actually like level 10.
Maple was level 2 then and she was poisoned by a level 10 monster of course her resistance will increase fast because of the level gap.
The Hydra is also considered the strongest monster in the current floor. So Maple soloing it on her first try is actually a world record in itself.
The anime doesn't state it but Maple stood there getting poisoned for 3 hours and then she ate it for about another 3 which means she spent at least 6 hours fighting that boss.
The reason why she got that unique armor set is because she soloed the boss while defeating it using drain damage (I think her bite attack is 1 damage) for the first time she fought it.
Thank god they patched it, even though it's still broken as fuck.

I was just scrolling UA-cam and saw the shortened clip of the first battle royal and was like sure I’ll watch this it looks fun and it’s pretty short. Ends of series I fricken fell in love with the show and for some reason super attached to they’re friendship lol

@@xArt_16 Same here, love the characters, Maple, Sally, and all the others, especially the hyper strength twins.
To explain her shield eating people, its her devour skill, she attached the skill into the shield skill slot so the skill activates automatically when she defends. Devour does life steal damage and converts the life stolen to mana, so she can reuse the mana to keep activating Devour.
her skill devour is actually infinite due she create it and the game system accept it but the game developer find it out thus they feel unfair so it got limited into 10 uses only for one day.
Broken as fuck. That's a Doomfist punch for ya. Broken!!!!
The Cheese is fucking real.
The poison dragon fight is my favorite. In the anime, she kinds just used potions, but in The manga, she used a combo of her mediation skill and her potions and other health increases and barely made it.
But the funniest part is that since put 0 skill points into attack, even with a sword, she couldn't do much damage, but when she bites the poison dragon, she isnt attacking because it counts as Life Steal. She wittled its life away and unlocked secret skills for winning that way. On top of that, she was the first person to beat the dungeon, and people who first beat the dungeon get a rare Armour set.
So because she realizes that she does more damage and gets more skills from eating the monsters, she literally goes around beating a bunch of weak monsters and eating them, because of that, she unlocked the savage skill.
That's not totally right. She's not the first to beat the dungeon, others peoples already did it. The loot she got is a unique loot, given with those requirements : The first Person who beat the Hydra in solo, at his first attempts.

@@hecatelios That's true, I should've specified that the game only awards you the unique gear when you beat the dungeon as a single player.
I just assumed everyone knew Maple was solo because she was the only one in the dungeon.
the dungeon always have a secret and a certain condition only to require it.actuall her skill eat the monster doesnt exist in game but she create it.
@@chomusukemegumin2984 Its not that it didn't exist, its that its an unconventional attack. The New World system takes in all forms of attack, had she just bitten the poison dragon she wouldn't have done Life Steal but a bite attack that would've done minimum damage, but because she bit off and consumed the poison dragon it counts as a Life Steal attack

iirc this game has a LOT of op skills because the devs are trolls and left a fuckton of easter eggs in the game while coding going "nah, people wont find it that easily. if one or two find them it's probably fine"
Like maple's total defense skill. normally people would NEVER have gotten it. Anyone with ANY sort of common sense (maple doesnt), would have at least played or heard of RPGs, and would just kill and attack mobs on sight. they would never have thought of standing still and taking attacks from a weak lvl 1 bunny for > 1 hour straight. Even if they "thought" of it, they would have taken damage. only a ridiculous build like maple with her starting lvl 1 stats and equipment would have taken 0 damage from monsters. If i remember correctly the exact requirement is to "take no damage while being attacked by a monster AND deal no dmg to them for 1 hour straight" which is very counter intuitive. If maple joined the game with her friend she would never had found that skill ever.
You mustn't actually understand gaming communities if you think Total Defense wouldn't have been discovered day 1. All it'd take is even one theorycrafter to think "What happens if I pump defense completely?" and then piss around being swarmed by weak level monsters and find it in due course. Once the existence of weird-ass traits from questionable behaviour is known, players would be doing all kinds of nutty shit to find hidden traits.
Beyond that, literally any datamining would ruin all surprises. There would be no secrets, all the busted OP traits in the game would be known and everyone would be able to easily make use of them. It's quite literally the shittiest designed game ever and would be ruined completely in less than a year.
@@Domura and you seems to fail to understand that most gamers, especially in a progression MMO, would RUSH the hell out of grinding mobs on the first day of server opening. Everyone wants to get ahead of the curve, get a high level, have access to higher level mobs, monopolize the good exp areas for farming, in turn get more and better loot, and have a monopoly over the game's crafting materials and top tier equipment.
Theory crafters will NOT be likely to appear on the very first day where it's a mad rush. Even if they do and someone ended up putting ALL points into vit, they would LITERALLY walk like a snail, do 1 dmg to all monsters, etc. That's a VERY stupid build. Also you literally need to pump EVERY single point into vit, or else the rabbit will STILL do like 1 dmg to you per hit iirc. even if you keep pumping vit forever the higher level monsters will still do damage to you. iirc, HP is also a stat that needs stat points. even if you went full tank you would split hp and vit. nobody in their right mind would put 100 full points into vit and not have ANY HP, str or what not. how are you even supposed to level up then? you do no dmg. The most likely scenario would be party play. Even then you would be 99% useless because you would be walking at a speed of crawling on the ground while your teammates will be far ahead. That means you literally cant do your job to reposition and protect your allies. You'd insta reroll at that point.
Also did you forget literally SITTING there for 1 FULL hour without taking dmg OR doing damage? Who the hell does that? if you see a monster attacking you, doing damage or not, wont the first thing is to TRY to hit back? the moment you even do 1 damage to the rabbit it's over. If you were in a party (the only reasonable explaination that you would even go full tank), your party members would kill the rabbit instantly. who the hell would sit there and watch you get hit for an hour straight?
think about it for a second.
edit: forgot to address the datamining aspect. datamining would not happen "on the first day" if in any sort of ease at all. this is not a singleplayer game. it's an MMO, it's a lot harder to datamine anything if stuff is stored server side and not client side. even then there's a lot of ways to mitigate it.
The bunny was also the rarest monster in the forest and the only monster that even with maples build would do no damage. Every other monster in that forest could have still killed her... eventually

Yo, I love this anime. Its queen ridiculousness and her OP newbie strats.
She kept unlocking skills without knowing. So first she unlocked Total defense, which doubles her vitality, by letting the bunny attack her for an hour. This is a hidden skill but she got it because she was goofing
She got a special one of a kind reward for being the first to solo the early level boss. You needed to be a lower level to fight it, and thus people normally had to fight it in groups. She was in a position where the boss couldn’t hurt her, but the bite attack guaranteed doing 1 hp of damage. So she just had to eat it to death, while it was unable to hurt her.
I think you also missed that she put all her original points in vitality alone. No strength, no agility, nothing to balance anything out. That’s why she’s so slow, even while walking.
But this anime is all about Maple literally being a newb at the game and getting skills because of her n00bness.

Just some notes on the Japanese: Her real name Kaede means “maple leaf” so she chose that name as her character name. “Bofuri” is the Japanese nickname for this anime as the real title is really long. It’s actually called “Itai no wa iya nanode BOugyou-ryoku ni kyokuFURIshitai to omoimasu” 痛いのは嫌なので防御力に極振りしたいと思います。

The fight animation in this show is sooo much better than I ever thought it would be. Top tier action.
i think another thing is that since Maple is only LV1 the EXP she gets from getting hit is higher.
a lv1 character gets more EXP from getting hit than a lv10 but no one would just stay lv1 for an hour letting themselves get hit
And that is the main point of the show the game designers put in stuff they did not think people would ever get like a reward for killing a monster by biting it
So the anime skipped over it a bit, but Maple and Sally were in that cave hunting for 3 weeks before Sally decided to take on the monster.
Ok now you've seen it, a major FYI - the chats in the show actually contribute to the story, but you kinda hafta spam the pause/play button to be able to read it. Idunno if you want to do it while reacting, but you'd be encouraged to go back and read those chats.
In the novel specified: Maple gain the hability "murder Hydra" beating the hydra eating it (which was a requirement too) but needed 5 hours to beat in the game. And the ability from the bunny take 1 hour to do it. Meditation 3 hours but that already specified in the anime.
Juuuuuust gonna upvote now. Enjoy once you reach "Maple and the Valley of the Overfiend" (you'll know it when you see it).

Eating/biting is considered stat dam atks or drain.
It was never mentioned in anime.
The LN is hilarious at times with Maple being Maple the idiot savant of a boss monster PC.
Just wait for season end version of her, it's awesome how crazy unfair she gets.
For the record, in the LN it's made more clear, but Maple does have many close calls despite being OP so the series still gives her intense fights where until you see how you do not know how she could win.

If you think about it it’s a really messed up build bec when’s the last time you brought an antidote to a pvp battle. And if you tried to get away to heal after the effect wears off she can just paralyze you it’s some weird status effect tank that’s honestly pretty scary

Andreas Kontio yep. It is the most popular Winter 2020 anime. Though it is not an all time favorite, but it was when it came out. It was consistently on the top ranking, week after week, be it in western or eastern audiences.
Wow, that's great! Although I will say, the way in which they bent the standard layout of mmorpg-s is really weird - and if it's actually popular/anticipated it's even more surprising they got away with bending the standard format this much (imo it's too much for anime that isn't underground).
All the same, I like when shit is casually weird, but that's a bit much. Still enjoyable though!
I love stat-based MMO , there's always the "build" for each stat, the problem is the grinding, but as maple enjoy grinding she doesn't notice that she is slowly building a full defense counter attack build, which do exist in MMO , the only problem with those is that to be balanced they require you to dump all your stats into one, items like "reflect the damage done to you like a 10% of your defense" those kinds of items only work with gargantuan lives in defense, otherwise they get outclassed by more round builds, but as maple is so into defense, she doesn't notice

I really like this anime since its like The Rising of the Shield Hero but more fun and funny since in the other anime its more dramatic. She’s practically clueless in game but that makes her really strong that is why its really good anime to watch if you are done with too much crying and conflict animes.

Kaede/Maple is sorta like a cross between Megumin and Darkness: She puts all her points into one thing, and she is a great defender that can’t hit anything (actually not true as she has attacks like her Hydra)... only, she’s not perverted like Darkness, haha.
In the Manga Maple fought Goblins she Referenced Goblin Slayer but they cut it out cause of what happened . Maple has the title The Nightmare of Goblins

I have no idea if you’ve seen these Anime’s but i’ll just recommend a few of the good ones.
1. Daily Lives of High School Boys (Pure Comedy and honestly, I highly recommend it)
2. Noucome is also another great comedy like the one above. (English name is “My Mental Choices Are Completely Interfering With My School Romantic Comedy)
3. Gabriel Dropout is my top 3 favorite Comedy’s that i’ve seen so far. I did recommend this before but it was back when you have like 3-4 shows to watch at once.

i have two theories about the game in the anime first i believe that the vitality stat effects some ability gains when it comes to status effects its why she got poison resistance so fast. also her class passive might negate damage at or below 1 as most games have 1hp chip damage but she doesnt seem to take any chip damage at all of course those arent stated in the anime or the manga as far as i am aware. i havent read the LN so idk if it has anything

I started following u guy shield hero is like maple with problem on the first ep
If I were to have this game, I would use a Nodachi and max my Agility, Strength, Dexterity, and my Defense, in that order.
Edit: I was planning on going for both of what I like, being a ninja, but using an Odachi/Nodachi.
Edit II: And the fighting style was going to include something like the Ganryu style, but I add my own sword style with it and create a whole new fighting style.
Edit III: My name would either be Subie or Onzai, with the last/family name Hosokawa, if I would...
Edit IV: Actually now that I think about it, maybe I won't include Hosokawa, it might be disrespectful.
Edit V: I just searched up what Subie means, and if I'm right, it means "Suffered" in French. But when I saw "French" a thought came up saying "Th-this is perfect! Holy Sh%t, XD!"
