Fun fact: Tungsten just means heavy stone in Swedish, because a Swede found the element and named it. There's a few other elements named after Swedish things, but they're much rarer so most people probably haven't heard of them. :)
2:37 The channel “how to make everything” actually proved that a properly constructed kiln made of nothing but mud, sticks, and a hand powered cloth bellows could get hot enough to smelt iron. And was actually the first ancient method that was used to make it widely available.
What they didn't show was how later on Chrome was told to figure out how to melt tungsten- which takes over 4 times as much heat as iron- and he did it, by haphazardly using all their different science tools to raise the heat, and of course it worked! Since heat is just energy, it's cumulative based on how much you put into it, so no matter what you do in what order all those additional things will make it go crazy hot 100% of the time
Is the powder in that container of a fine texture? If so, that's why it is hard to light. A counter-intuitive trick to making it easier to light is to mix it with water until damp and press it into blocks. Then, break them into small clumps called "corns," hence the name "corning." These corns are shaped in a way that allows gaps of air to flow between the corns. The air allows oxygen in between, and the fire shoots between the corns. Like I said, counter-intuitive, but it works.
Fun fact: Boichi was a major in Physics in college, to prepare himself to better write science fiction. He didn't just do a little research, he went in knowing he wanted to be an artist for science fiction manga.
Fun fact: Boichi is a korean artist who's drawn hentai before, while Riichiro Inagaki is the writer of Dr. STONE, who also wrote and drew Eyeshield 21, a sports series about football. Dunno about Boichi, but Riichiro Inagaki has never been to college, meaning he doesn't have the advantage of college students who has learned and gotten familiar with certain chemistry and physics concepts. He has to do all his research from scratch. And that's damn impressive.

I DID love this show, I will point out, by the time they had gotten to the loss-wax casting of the steam boiler, they had upgraded their air input to the smeltery twice! once time as piston plunger type, but ultimately they used a large water wheel, so they could use mechanical power for iron production. the "gasp bellows" was the rough draft, "tier 1!!" as I think they put it in the show.
I had never thought about watching this show but Kari co-signing it and finding so many parallels to her time in mythbusters made me want to watch it! Here I go!
Its nice to see some simultaneous appreciation for the science that the show while also holding on to some skepticism. I think the show is cool to show a couple old school methods of doing real material science/chemistry but I also go crazy thinking about how impossible it would be in their actual conditions. Like its satisfying to see them achieve electricity but also I was mad enough to actually do some stoichiometry to confirm that theres no way they could perform electrolysis on enough sweat to start breaking down rope
Dr stone has to be my favorite anime of all time, i love how simple they make science feel, and the way senku explains stuff is so interesting and inventive. Id love to see this Anime go for years, so many cool ways to teach science to the youth by just watching this anime. I think ive retained more knowledge through watching these 2 seasons and starting season 3, then i learned through out highschool.
Dr. Stone is easily one of my favorite shows to come out over the past couple years. Great characters and story, and actual science lessons, what's not to love?
just fyi by the time they are doing stuff like engines they have upgraded the bellow system twice ones for more efficient pumps instead of bellows and then they upgraded the pumps to be hydro powered by a water wheel by connecting a half gear on a track on ever side you turn rotation energy into back and forth
the great thing about Dr Stone, is the core of story that is a "Watch and learn" type, sure that there are some experiments like pushing to the edge, but is great to see this kind of arguments in anime.
I really loved the way the show shows the intricate and creative creations of senku and Co. And their step by step map of what to do to be able to do the next step. Glad that Season 3 is comibg nect year! 2023!!!

It would serve well in a history class as well, showing off how some important material or device was first made, since they often use primitive tech, rather than simply recreating modern tech, like using Bakelite instead of Polyethylene.
Her reactions and enjoyment to the show’s science projects is quite cute. Really shows she’s having fun with the memories and experience she gained in the past
Now I think we need to see the rest of Mythbusters watching some new and old anime just to hear their thoughts and maybe see Jamie actually laugh so hard he can't even speak.
I don't see Jamie liking anime in general though? He has that stern and serious side.
Adam on the other hand likes fictional stuff.
@@dra6o0n Adam is a known anime fan (in fact cosplayer haha)
Jamie doesn't laugh.... he giggles... like a highschool girl
Adam laughs... like the savage madman he is
Jamie doesn't like the spotlight, we'd get Adam and Tory for sure though. Hell I bet you anyhting Kari's already told those 2 cause she legitimately looked like she was enjoying the show
I cried and then cried more when Suika got her glasses
i've watched s1 3 times. cry every time.
I've only had glasses for just over a year, so when I saw that, I immediately fell apart, remembering how emotional I was when I first put on my glasses and could see my mom's face clearly from across the room and down the hallway. I didn't know it until the year previous that I was straining my eyes to force myself to see for over a decade.
I cry every time they there's the scene of Byakuya's tomb
Because not only of the feels of the scene, but the fact that voice actor died
The steam engine here is actually one of oldest versions called the wobble engine or better known as the oscillating cylinder steam engine. It’s not in use today as the more reliable multi cylinder gas engine is much better though the foundation design is there just with better fuel efficiency and more control over the in and out.
Can we get her to watch the whole thing? I really enjoy her comments.
6:10 "I've made rocket fuel before but if I went a little bit further maybe I could've have made cotton candy." yep she understands the hierarchy of needs.
Senkuu makes space, science, and chemistry to be so fun and entertaining, yet educating at the same time. Definitely my favorite from all time
"magnets are the closest thing to magic we have on earth"
Yeeeeessss!
I LOVE how she's clearly enjoying herself in this and the show, what a great match-up for this
They should do the next video after she watches Senku made the first "cellphone".
That would be awesome and hilarious.
Someone make it happen: Mythbusters x Dr. Stone
If the Mythbusters were a thing in his world
Guarantee you he'd res them the moment he laid eyes on any one of them.
Adam Savage and Jamie Hynamen would take priority though due ti well.. with both you are basically guarnateed to restart civilization.... and even advance it
Those clips showing Grant Imahara though...
I miss him.
It would be nice if Senku gets to revive a petrified anime version of grant. Like maybe in this universe he didn't die because he got petrified. Kinda like a tribute to the man
@@Maramara13Fly Well seeing as how the manga started in 2017, which is presumably when this series takes place (Trump is shown to be president in a manga-only cameo in Chapter 1, so presumably it takes place somewhere around there) and Grant died in 2020, this would mean that in this world, he would have been petrified before his death in 2020. And since petrification is shown to cure diseases and ailments, it may have even improved his health enough afterwards so that he never would have had that aneurysm in the first place.
@@AtariDad Yes exactly!
Like they would need another engineer for the rocket.
This will be a great way of honouring him ....
@@Maramara13Fly Yeah, but I don't really think the show was ever really big in Japan. Between this and Jamie building a Gundam model, however, it is amusing to see the Mythbusters crew get in touch with their inner-weeb.
@@AtariDad Yeah, sadly that might be the case..
:(
6:50 Kari remembering shocking Adam with their ancient battery shrine thingy probably.
Reacting to doctor stone? This is gonna be fun!
She didn't watch it though, she reacted to clips of it. She might have watched it now though, who knows
I'd like to have seen the reaction to how Chrome ended up melting the tungsten, and how after pumping the bellows for a while Senku replies they need to keep at it for several more hours. And maybe the sulfa drug part. I think my biggest peeve in the series so far was igniting Magma's tunic, though.
Damn it's making me wish MythBusters had been a thing in my country so I could've watched it, Kari seem insanely smart and entertaining
in one of my survival training camps we had found out the powdered drink mixes were all highly flammable so we kept a few packs and aced the fire starting contest lol
10:45 Note to the editor. Bless this cut here! 😂
Dr. Stone is an amazing show. Binged it almost in one swoop and the science is great. They went to great lengths to get it down and still deliver a delightful and fun show.
The best part is her doubt about the bellows when it in fact did not work. They had to get a lot more manpower before successfully using bellows to make iron
Her reactions being rooted in relatability! I frickin Love this!!! Her guesses are always spot on and it’s astounding!!! The glasses before the zoomed in and the cotton candy before the strings!! Aaaaaaagh I’m having a nerdgasm
OMG, I think Inagaki is going to freak out if he sees this
I can only imagen how much research the creators in Dr stone go through and hours of studying everything to bring the whole series together 😁 makes you love it even more 🥰
Now we need to drop the manga writers and artists in the woods and see them test their knowledge
I've known her since I was a kid and loved the show even if I didn't understand anything 😂 glad to see her still smiley
Fun fact: Tungsten just means heavy stone in Swedish, because a Swede found the element and named it. There's a few other elements named after Swedish things, but they're much rarer so most people probably haven't heard of them. :)
KARI BYRON HOLY SHIT
SHE MADE MY CHILDHOOD GREAT I LOVED WATCHING MYTHBUSTERS ALL THE TIME EVERY WEEK BRUH
Always loved watching your work Kari. Sadly it’s hard to watch your more recent stuff in Australia
2:37
The channel “how to make everything” actually proved that a properly constructed kiln made of nothing but mud, sticks, and a hand powered cloth bellows could get hot enough to smelt iron. And was actually the first ancient method that was used to make it widely available.
What they didn't show was how later on Chrome was told to figure out how to melt tungsten- which takes over 4 times as much heat as iron- and he did it, by haphazardly using all their different science tools to raise the heat, and of course it worked! Since heat is just energy, it's cumulative based on how much you put into it, so no matter what you do in what order all those additional things will make it go crazy hot 100% of the time
This was a really fun video! I always loved Mythbusters!
Like I said, counter-intuitive, but it works.
kari in general just brang back nostalgia! i remember watching mythbusters when it came out and i was obsessed
@@ARMYALEX1869 oh wow now i know why there expression were like that lol. I was honestly surprised when one of the characters in eyeshield 21 had a little cameo in dr stone I immediately searched the creator.
@@ARMYALEX1869 I think Murata (One punch man artist) drew eye shield 21
It be awesome if someone did Mythbuster style anime science and Dr. Stone.
I've been a fan of hers for many years and I would love to hear her voice come out of one of the characters in dr. Stone
i love this anime 🥺🥺 im not a science expert in this type of stuff but the show is really enjoyable !! and the manga is absolutely amazing
I've made gunpowder using the same formula (learned it from Star Trek!) and yes, it works. Didn't add a pinch of sugar.
The hardest part was actually sourcing the potassium nitrate as a high schooler.
We ground the ingredients and mixed it in our basement, because we were stupid. Nothing bad happened, which I will attribute mostly to luck.
Dr. Stone's fascinating storyline and scientific concepts will undoubtedly spark curiosity in countless young minds, driving them towards a newfound interest in science.
That's such a great show.
My headcannon is that Mythbusters was a show that affected Senku's love for science and he learned some of the stuff that he makes from the show.
If I was a science teacher I'd make my students watch Dr. Stone for homework
Yk my former science teacher is actually the one that recommended dr stone to me lmao
The part where senku and his friends just looks closely at the gunpowder when it sparkled is truly monke moment
god this brings me back, mythbusters was one of my favourite show and to see kari herself reacts to dr stone is a blessing
The cotton candy reaction is on par with what that characters experienced
Whoa, friendly face! Need to see her more!!
*But I also have never had fire emit from my eyes because I've worked that hard.*
Rengoku: *How about setting your heart ablaze?*
I feel like they should test some of these in real life and just see how accurate it is.
Wow. I was a huge Mythbusters fan as a kid. It's good to see that my enthusiasm was well placed, because apparently Kari's even cooler than I thought back then. I'd love to see more from her. 🙂
The fact that Kari Byron casually has a bottle of black powder sitting around the house is hilarious 😂
after watching this just hit me the Old Mythbusters times ... damn i wish they could reunite again for 1 more ep ... the 'new' one went total bust ... didnt had the soul the old one had ... was raw compared to the insane old was ... damn i wish i had a time machine of being a kid instead watching cartoons was watching either Mythbusters or How its made
I DID love this show, I will point out, by the time they had gotten to the loss-wax casting of the steam boiler, they had upgraded their air input to the smeltery twice! once time as piston plunger type, but ultimately they used a large water wheel, so they could use mechanical power for iron production. the "gasp bellows" was the rough draft, "tier 1!!" as I think they put it in the show.
I had never thought about watching this show but Kari co-signing it and finding so many parallels to her time in mythbusters made me want to watch it! Here I go!
One of the few Dr Stone reaction videos where we definitely know the person reacting has experience in the field.
Kari was my childhood crush, now she is an inspiration for my grown self :)
I absolutely love Dr. Stone excellent show 👏 I hope they do more seasons soon.
we need MUCH more of these kari dr stone reacts. this was 2y ago though, maybe there's more? i'll check
7:18 Scheelite (sp?) An ore of tungsten. Perfect for incandescent bulb filaments and vacuum tubes.
This made me so very happy 😭
Science Crossover :O
Dr. Stone is easily one of my favorite shows to come out over the past couple years. Great characters and story, and actual science lessons, what's not to love?
Seeing Kari watch anime and look as though she genuinely enjoyed it, was so cool! 😁
just fyi by the time they are doing stuff like engines they have upgraded the bellow system twice ones for more efficient pumps instead of bellows and then they upgraded the pumps to be hydro powered by a water wheel by connecting a half gear on a track on ever side you turn rotation energy into back and forth
OH MY GOD ITS KARI BYRON. AN ABSOLUTE LEGEND!!!!
Such an awesome anime. Just finished season 3.
Man I love Kari Byron. It's always a treat to see her :) especially something like this
the great thing about Dr Stone, is the core of story that is a "Watch and learn" type, sure that there are some experiments like pushing to the edge, but is great to see this kind of arguments in anime.
Kari reacting to senku Dr Stone? This is a legendary content right here!
ohmy god the love of my childhood, love her so much
I really loved the way the show shows the intricate and creative creations of senku and Co. And their step by step map of what to do to be able to do the next step. Glad that Season 3 is comibg nect year! 2023!!!
