The Power of Shape Layers: www.udemy.com/course/power-of...
Hey everybody and welcome back to another exciting and informative episode of 13 Minute AE Tutorials where you learn tips, tricks, and shortcuts in 13 Minutes or less. No BS, just AE. For this episode, I'm going to show you how to use Essential Graphics with your After Effects projects. Forget about exporting to Premiere for now - this episode is going to focus on using Essential Graphics as a part of your After Effects workflow. It's not a common use of Essential Grpahics, but it really should be because it is a HUGE time saver. I created a basic design layout in After Effects and you can that project file in the description below. You can download that now, or you can create your own layout and follow along.
Okay, so two episodes ago we created color palettes using CC Libraries. Last episode, we used Essential Graphics to bring a simple lower third into Premiere, where it can be easily edited by you, your co-workers, or your clients. We also applied a cool script to that lower third, and saved it as a preset. In this episode, we are going to be staying inside of After Effects while using Essential Graphics. Keep in mind that the purpose of Essential Graphics is for creating templates inside of After Effects, and then using those templates in Premiere. While Essential Graphics is ideal for creating lower thirds, lists, and other brand assets, that's not the only use for Essential Graphics. We're going to go outside the box and see how it can be beneficial to use Essential Graphics inside of After Effects only, with no intention of using Premiere.
So, you can take advantage of Essential Graphics by using it for a purpose that it wasn't necessarily designed for, which, to me, is super exciting because I love using plug-ins in creative ways. And this is definitely one of those times.
I hope this helped you out. Please comment, like, share, and subscribe. Make sure to click the bell so you're notified every time I upload a new video. I'd love to get your feedback about this course and any other topic you'd like to see covered. Don't forget to check out my new Udemy course, the Power of Shape Layers. It's a comprehensive course that literally covers every aspect of shape layers. And remember to check out the previous two episodes if you haven't done so already, so you can learn how to use CC Libraries to make color palettes, and how to use those color palettes with Essential Graphics.
Thanks for watching, everybody. I'll see you next time.

Super helpful. Saves the time to go through a billion menus and makes it much clearer when coming back to a project after a long time.

Jeff, thank you very much for your Udemy Course and these tutorials!
For me, Shape layers were one of the most difficult parts of AE to understand, but now I am good at that. I like how the logic behind the action is explained; you're not just learning how to do things, but also why those things are done in that way. This makes it easier to learn and commit to memory. Your course is amazing!!! I will wait for the next course.

This is awesome! Thank you so much. Just a question, is there a way that you can use your essential graphics templates on a different ae project?

Yes ... Me too . I guess to find my response here..but not... I think we can use Essential Graphics in After effect like in Premiere ... I have to do scoreboard and wanted to have one essential graphics to duplicate and change score - temas - .... but not direcctly in After effect ?

But how can we add 2 colours (or more) on the same text (a phrase of two words: "Jeff Knight", Jeff > white, Knight > yellow) and save it as a mogrt for premiere?!

That would be a bit more involved. You'd need to make the first name it's own text layer and then add a fill. Pull the text source and fill color into EG. Then do the same for the last name. If you're in AE, you can just select the text and make it whatever color you want from the character panel. But for a mogrt file, you would need to make both names their one layer. I would also put in a position option for the last name so it can be moved based on the length of the first name, or you could add an expression that moves it over. Does that make sense?

@@7MinuteAETutorials Oh god you're an angel, and yes that makes sense and between us that what i was afraid of, making two layers with position property for the second one like you said.
But just to confirm, i saw someone here using an expression on only one fill, the result was a bit like color random generating no matter what was the initial fill color. So would be a way how to modify that expression to settle on a specific chosen color? Or maybe I'm just being silly!!

Back to ZP School I’m not sure if I follow what you mean. You can export an image, which is what I did for my client who wanted multiple variations of the same design.
