Loved the video! Having just returned from a trip to Shanghai and the Philippines, it’s fantastic to see Shanghai’s dynamic spirit and architectural beauty showcased so well. Your video really highlights the city’s unique blend of tradition and modernity.
My guy is brutally honest lol😂
I lived in SH for 5 years, still miss it 👍
What’s so good about it?
@@michaeldellorso889I lived there for 8. It has a good vibe. If you live there as an expat, there are always events, parties and in my experience I had a great time with locals. And it’s just a good variety of an adventure of living in a different place learning a culture, and it has enough to escape to western comforts if you miss those.
If the government wasn’t so fickle with their immigration laws and I had a permanent visa, I wouldn’t have left.
@@sloppynyuszi You should have resisted a little bit, now it's much easier if you want to stay long term here. I got the permanent residency with no issues, people always say it's ¨impossible¨ to get but it is definitely not true. Most of the expats simply cry about it but don't even try to apply. The pace of change in Shanghai is really amazing, and the city is getting better and better every day.
Welcome to come back. ;)
Haven’t been to Shanghai since 2009. Sounds like it is time to return.
欢迎哦😊时间允许的话可以带你们玩)
Kim, Glad to see you are going out tying the local food and exploring the cities you visit on the calendar.
Kym, I love these types of videos as well as all of your F1 stuff. What I’d really like is someone following you around at an F1 weekend, to do a “behind the scenes” look at how you do it. I have no idea how you get all of the amazing shots and videos that you get. It seems like it would take a team of 20 people to do everything that you do. You must get up at 0500, and stay up until after midnight. As a PS..Any thoughts on where to stay for F1 Qatar to get the best of both…walking around and seeing Qatar, but also somewhat convenient to get to the track ?
Mondrian Hotel is my Qatar favourite
Having been to bunch of F1 races and seen Kym in action repeatedly at them (you can’t miss seeing him if you are in the Paddock Club or the F1 Paddock) I can tell you that he works incredibly hard during these race weekends and from what I have observed, his work ethic is second to none among photographers.
He is in constant motion all over the paddock, paddock club and the track trying to get the best photos usually carrying 3 heavy cameras at the same time. The amount of miles walked every day during a race weekend has to be massive. “Stay passionate” for him seems like more than just a moniker but a way of life.
@@teamredgutz399 me as well. He is definitely the hardest working photographer across the board. It just amazes me how many shots he gets, and how many angles he gets. That why I said it would take a team of 20! I I do know that he does it all himself. Or sometimes with his son. He is the absolute best UA-camr when it comes to following F1, and now for travel too!
Thanks and love Shanghai
The Roewe cars were originally Rover cars. The Chinese bought all of the car manufacturing gear and pressing machinery when Rover closed down in the UK. They originally produced the old Rover 75 under the Roewe name, which I believe is pronounced Rower, as the Roewe 750. If you compare the Rover badge and the Roewe badge, you will see the similarities.

There's a lot more to explore here! But it is always fun to see Shanghai from an outsider's perspective❤👍
It has changed a lot since last time I was there
@@KymIllmancould you please be more pacific what have been changed in Shanghai from your own point of view. People? Economic? Or anything else? Lots of foreigners left Shanghai and never comeback since Covid. It’s very sad for the city. Your videos are absolutely great!👍
I lost it when you started drinking jiangxiaobai in the convenient store 😭
Hope you found "it" again.
@@NeboReveyou must be fun at parties
Thank you Kim for showing our city to the world! There’s certainly a lot more interesting stuff about Shanghai, looking forward for your return next year!
Pure entertainment again Kym. Love them!
Love these videos as well Kim !
Kym, Thank You for sharing this wonderful video. Looking forward to the Miami F1 posting. Stay Passionate! Cheers!🥂
This is brilliant. More of this please.
2:18 That reminds me of the flat iron building in New York. 😃
love the vlog!
I liked the inetraction with John,,,
Great content Kym, you give us a good insight into a bit of local culture, keep up the good work.
Thank you! Will do!
These are my favourite of your videos
Hope to run into you in Miami! Great content!
Once again best content very well done
Much appreciated
2:28 AliPay bikes... 🤩
Great video Kym! Remembering me my weekend in Shanghai this summer... sooooooooo hot!
5:18 That's "bingjiling"... ice cream
good times in shanghai... it never ends the exploring
Living the dream... 😊
Kym, thanks a lot for telling what it's really like in Shanghai.
I've never been to Shanghai & enjoyed watching this V more than your F1 Vs😂
I wish I had a chance to enjoy real Chinese cuisine in China🤤
Thanks for sharing.
You bet
Kym i love what you’re doing with the channel long time follower , we were at the train station with you in the Suzuka aftermath & got as star stuck as when we bumped into Alonso 😂
Nice to hear. Cheers.
love you kym ❤
bing chilling kim 👍
G’ Day Kym!
Appreciate you not forgetting us and offering us a piece of candy. Don’t mind if I do. Could use something to wash it down with too. 😉
my fav youtube notification by far
Kim, your concierge, John, has probably gotten some sort of a kickback in one way or another for taking you to the restaurant he took you to. That’s why he walked you there and that’s why he said he liked the ice cream thing. So he can get whatever compensation in person.
Just $60USD, bro, this even ain't much for eating out in Australia, let alone you get a dude who accompanies and translates for you
I'm sorry for what happened to you, the world is not that dark
Kym, on your international travels do you use your Aussie mobile providers data or limit yourself to wifi? TYIA
Love your content Kym! Great video!
Thanks so much!!
The chinese whiseky you had looks like what is called the yellow wine. People usually warm it up to drink instead of on the rocks.😂 I might be wrong, it might be the whiskely produced in China.
The Chinese don't keep their whiskey in porcelain bottles.
Excellent video.
Thank you very much!
5:19 lol👍👍👍
I think you should bring more local people like the concierge man. he's plain but funny hahaha
I don't know how you travel and make it look effortless. I will be traveling to Brisbane next week from the US. Wish me luck.
That is a long journey! Good luck!
Your background vids are far more interesting than the actual races.
I thought the shower door says "Pull"😂
So many times we came close to the greatness of a succulent Chinese meal but alas never close enough to matter
We need F1 in Kyalami, South Africa!
Did Kym just got photo bombed 😂 5:05
I did
John is epic
Kym are having a meet and greet in miami? Its my first grand prix! Keep us posted
I am!
At 9:02 it seems like the couple behind you are having a good time
Just a hunch… but I suspect ‘Summer’ is more of a *minder than a guide. But Kym was managing to present things with honesty regardless. Great video.
Minder from where?
@@lukeh2440 China is incredibly strict about media coverage and filming, and that includes UA-camrs. She was most likely a minder from local government, to ensure he didn’t go anywhere/film anything they didn’t want him to, and to guide him towards things they think paint China/Shanghai in a good light.
When I visited China in 2009 there were no minders shadowing me. I opted for one guided tour to the Great Wall with an English speaking guide. Other than that I was on my own In Beijing and Shanghai.
@@teamredgutz399 China has changed a lot since ‘09.
that is what i called "paranoia"
14 day forecast for Miami shows 28-29C for the daytime high. No hats or heavy jackets, Kym. Get those shorts ready.
What’s the animal / food you find rubbery and you can get 5 times a year for free in WA? Couldn’t understand it.
Is there a flight review coming as well for the return flights to Perth as well or was that it?
No.
As someone who frequently flies out of Pudong I cannot convey my distaste for the Pudong Terminal 2 departure area. Weird upstairs construction and terrible lounge. The Satellite port is much much better and much newer, but long distance flights are usually at the main terminal. Shame to see they still haven’t fixed the construction and lounge issues. Crazy expensive food outside of the lounged as well.
1:19 its a rover "jeremy clarkson"
Did you go to the French district and see the ‘Eifeltower’?
He was in the French concession, and the fake Eiffel Tower isn’t there. It’s I think in a suburb of Hangzhou somewhere.
The famous fake city in Shanghai is Thames town which is a fake English village. It’s now a popular tourist spot and famous for having wedding photos taken. It was sold as a ghost town and I went there to check it out (I lived in Shanghai for a few years), was surprised how busy it was.
Urgh I can relate to paying for things there. Astounding how hard it was to spend my money in China!
6:31
Would you say it was a succulent chinese meal?
That building in the French part of town looks like a miniature "Flat Iron" building in NYC.
I thought the same
Can we trade lives? Yours looks like so much more fun than mine.
Not sure what you did with Alipay, took me 2 min and it doesn't charge fee before a limit, which I never read at a restaurant at least
It took me 2 mins too. The 3% was probably charged by his bank/credit card company.
I was there a few months ago. Significantly less foreigners.
That’s impressive concierge service! How much of a tip would be appropriate for that?
2 dogs and a dimsim
Correct me if I'm wrong, but It seemed to me that you were escorted by someone wherever you went in Shanghai. (love your travel videos).
Well looked after.
@@KymIllman Looked after or "kept an eye on"?
What's this restaurant called?
Quickly moves on to next scene without attempting to repeat it lol
if most chinese only have a general idea of f1, thats a mega market to tap into.
They have the idea of F1, after all that's where most of counterfeit F1 merchandise were made
That’s like the issue. Ppl everywhere know what F1 is, they usually don’t have a reason to get into it unless it was somehow made appealing to them. (Such as presenting a hometown hero or having a spectacular champions race)
边喝白酒边录视频,你可真牛🤣
First!
Fun Fact: The building everone is looking at is called the Wukang Mansion and is modeled after the Flatiron building in New York
Designed by Hudec Laszlo. A Hungarian Architect who really left a mark in Shanghai.
You should have tried this famous, expensive Chinese spirit that has over 80% alcohol. I had to try it at a wedding, and it tasted like gasoline. But the Chinese love it. 😅
over 80%, wow! I've tried some 50-55%.
The variety of food there is actually shockingly massive. One cultural difference is that most amazing food or restaurants chains are all now in places like shopping malls, where locals actually go to for great food. That soupdumpling place looks a bit underwhelming.
I bet he has like 20 minders following him around
Heading back to Oz must be a relief. 😆👍
“China and Australia used to be friendly countries”……..yeah nah don’t go back there next year Kym haha 😂 😝 maybe skip that one lol 😝
Kym, I read a "conspiracy theory" that VCARB actually switched chasis among their drivers. Media reports said Daniel Riccardo was getting a "new" chasis for the race. Daniel Riccardo's performance clearly improved over his previous races, while Yuki Tsunoda's performance was uncharacteristially bad---a complete reversal from before. Is there a way you can learn whether VCARB gave Daniel a brand new chasis, or if they instead switched chasis as a means to test performance? This is something not being reported in the media, and I'm interested in learning the truth of why there was a complete reversal in performance for VCARB drivers instead of Daniel's performance rising to the level of Yuki's.
It’s not a conspiracy theory. It was officially announced. It was Ricciardo’s last chance.
Washed 😂
I have thought about that my self a good call
@@A.D.D.O.C.D.T hmm... maybe. Most people have three seats opening at both Red Bull teams. Horner may just clean house.
@@Dazzerdt1885 Yes, it's not unprecedented that two chasis contructed in exactly the same way have completely different performance characteristics. A great example are motorcycles. You can have two exactly the same, but each has their own unique foibles.
The girl in the car reminds me of the youtuber ricegum.
You could say you a succulent chinese meal
9:32 was this dirt on the shower floor? 😭😖
What a lovely smoggy view.
It’s pretty amazing how they made a dog look like a crab 🦀
when and how can I buy your bucket hat???
Very soon
@@KymIllman Thanks
You're having a meal, a succulent Chinese meal!
Btw John is probably IPA
Avoiding Alipay to safe 3% commission (ca. USD 2 on your evening meal) does not match with 1st/Business class flying.
How much money do you have? I'm asking because youre living my dream life
I’m spending plenty of it doing this
in the B roll, Kym tells us about all the foods that he could'nt talk about in china that made him feel crook.
"Eating a meal, a succulent Chinese meal"
john should be ur secretary
I wonder how much "editorial control" Summer+John had over the video?
Zero
"Used to be friendly countries..." lmao
In Chinese official terms. That is, "the earth is big enough to accommodate the common development of China and the United States, as well as independent development." . . China's world. China's future. There can be no United States, no Australia, and no Canada. . The world is big enough.
(The relationship between China and Australia changes depending on the relationship between China and the United States. We Chinese don’t even care about the United States. Do we care about the opinions of the dog in his hand?)
(China is a big country. The most important task is internal development. Countries that can influence China from the outside do not exist yet. Including the United States)
I think many countries. Overconfidence. Too arrogant.
Earth now. There is no cooperation from China. any international rights. In fact it doesn't exist.
Western countries have jointly imposed sanctions on Russia. China is not cooperating. The Russian economy is even developing rapidly. Not affected at all
THaml you Kym. But - no thanks
understandable from all those white media
Your video’s are super, I watch as soon as you upload them. But I hear your teeth scraping the chopsticks……….they shouldn’t touch the inside of your mouth 😅
Thanks for the tip
Not sure why F1 would ever go to China. But, Miami in about 10 days. Great that F1 will be in the state where I live. Food should be very good in Miami. Enjoy your videos. Would not like to do all the flying you do!!😲
I married a hairy crab
ngl that star whatever chinese restaurant looks terrible lol, definitely better foods out there then that one
Man that's NOT China !!!! not even close

I've had the same liquor before and I do not suggest drinking it. It tastes like Methanol.
Generally speaking, if a vodka or similar clear liquor tastes sweet it's because They failed to separate the methanol from the ethanol. Drinking that stuff too much can cause to serious health issues.
Generally it's only countries with bad food regulation that sell this type of alcohol. Only time you see it in western countries is when people make Vodka at home.
Get a proper guide next time. You ordered all the wrong items at the wrong restaurants.
Agreed, obviously it’s not a good restaurant, and the Chinese guy he knows absolutely nothing but good food.
No seat belt for the beautiful young lady…
Not for nothin Kym but if you're gonna run around attempting to be a food critic I think you can do better than just calling stuff terrible, thats what kids do 😆
Your comment is what kids do. 🙄
Oh, so it’s like being in the West-
absolutely not
Basically the same, still on the same planet. Some things are better, some are not as good. If you have a chance, just go and take a trip. Nothing too difficult, just don’t believe everything you heard from the media.
