Undervolt your Laptop RTX 3050 for more FPS - HP Victus 16

- Опубліковано 5 лют 2023
- Most laptops are thermal constrained, so even if they have powerful hardware they tend to run slower due to overheating. Either that or they're power limited via software to avoid overloading the battery charger. Well, undervolting solves both of these problems! It also increases CPU power, since by reducing the power drawn by the GPU there's more headroom for the CPU. This time I'm using a HP Victus which is a very thin laptop and so undervolting REALLY makes a difference. The specs are: RTX 3050, i5 11400H, 16GB RAM, 512GB NvMe SSD. In case you have the model with the Ryzen 5 5600H, I also have a video on the channel about how to undervolt your CPU too!
The tutorial works for every RTX 3050 and even RTX 3050 Ti laptop. I have a different tutorial for desktop models on my channel! Let me know if you like the results!
We used MSI Afterburner, here's the download link: www.msi.com/page/Afterburner
The software in the background is Heaven Benchmark, here's the link: benchmark.unigine.com/heaven

I recently got a second hand tuf laptop with a Ryzen 4800h and 3050, I managed to get 1820 at 825 and definitely a good 7-10 degrees cooler, the turbo setting from Asus software allows the card to to 1950 but any sort of undervolt at that power crashes games instantly.
Great results there! 1950 is definitely too high for a laptop, it’s probably sustained for just a handful of seconds. Some desktop cards don’t even go that high😂 Great job with the UV!

Why did you not go for 800mV? Can I use 800mV?
@@ImWateringPSUs Can I use 800 mV for the same specs laptop mentioned above? will it cause trouble? Or I just hit and try with 800mV/825mV?
Update: while playing overwatch, the game froze. The game hasn't frozen ever in my life except just now.
Settings were 825mV at 1800mhz with -300.
@@sahilk.shinoda I tried 800mV but the card started to give me trouble, for me 825mV just made the trick.
@@sahilk.shinoda Unstable overclock you need to go higher mv try 825 and work your way up if it keeps crashing or lower the mhz at 800. This is a normal part of testing an undervolt for stability. Your laptop is fine. It's not getting hurt; for testing, I don't recommend enabling the start with Windows function until you ensure it's 100% stable across a few games.
Hey!!
wanted to tell you that this helped me but when i did the first method after that when i launched the game the usage and temp of GPU from the MSI Monitoring disappeared but the game worked fine no FPS drops everything was good, then i did that 825 and 1800 method that worked too, when i played the game after some hours (i shutdown my laptop) on the monitoring the usage and temp appeared automatically and after playing for 30-40 mins the fps dropped and game started lagging
then i went back to the curve and took it to 775 and 1700 after that no stutters were seen
any idea why that happened and why GPU usage and temp were lost when i first did the tutorial?
My GPU wattage is limited at 75W but it's not using more than 20W in games. What can I do to increase my GPU wattage in games?
Thank you! Temperature is now normal, but I have a question. Sometimes, even rarely, only a single game "New World" can suddenly stop responding together with some programms, so I cannot even restart my laptop without holding power button. In all other games everything is perfect. Should I change something or isn't it bad for my laptop, when it freezes like that?
I’d say lower the core clock my 50Mhz aaaand subscribe to support the page😂💪
Thanks man, im on an rtx 3050ti and was able to get as low as 0.845mv, my temps dropped like 10°c when gaming, unigine benchmark scores did improve slightly and I noticed the temps were stable and not fluctuating like before which indicates there's less thermal throttling.
One other thing I would advise others is after you've observed that the GPU is stable, before you save the settings in MSI afterburner use those settings and play any demanding game for like an hour, sometimes you might go 30-40 minutes before experiencing a crash, in which case increase the voltage by 10-15mv and try again.
If after 1 hour of playing a demanding game you have no crashes then the undervolt is perfectly stable.
Another thing you can also do to control your gpu temps is by limiting your fps, for example if a game is getting 90-100 fps, the temps will drop if you limit the fps to 80

Oh yeah actually I just found out/forgot that my or that specific laptop mentioned has a performance mode which automatically undervolts it, previously I was using turbo mode which utilizes 100% of the resources (instead of limiting the MHz/clockspeed of my GPU, the performance mode I believe this dynamically adjust the clockspeed based on temps probably it tries to keep it under 85 degrees which results in my laptop being quiter, it hovers around 1500-1800MHz while not limiting the GPU wattage).
Also for the turbo mode/unrestricted mode, the clockspeed hovers around 1900-2000+MHz. It seems that it suffers a major throttling though? The FPS drastically drops compared to undervolted or performance mode, maybe this is really how a GPU works but not sure, but I’m just going to mention that.

Yo bro!!❤❤
Would this work with a vivobook pro 15 (rtx 3050 50w) ?
Yup, pretty much same settings!
Does this fix fps drops ? Is there undervolt for cpu i7 12700 h ???😊
Yes it does, try it out, it works wonderfully! For the 12700H unfortunately you’d need to bios mod the laptop, I wouldn’t reeeaaally recommend it. But you can disable the turbo via throttlestop!
How about VRAM overclocking for RTX 3050 GPUs? Most 3050 users on the forums are able to OC their video memory by +600. But is it worth? Should I try OCing Vram?
oc it but dont to much i do only +150 but alr significant drastic fps boost and stable in game dont overclock to much or u end up messing your gpu,
A slight overclock is recommended!
@@ImWateringPSUs I tried +300 and +600 memory clock and it gave me only 2 fps. I think memory OC not worth.
Didn't work for me. Have tried 775mV with 1700MHz, 600 with 1800, 825 with 1800 too and the benchamark software just stopped suddenly, when i reset the setting, it backs to normal. Any suggestion? My laptop is victus 15 fa0008tx with i7 and rtx 3050.
Try 825mV with 1700Mhz, it means your card is a bit unlucky but we can still make it work!
@@ImWateringPSUs I got a random crash at some points in games applying those settings, eventhough the benchmark runs fine. Any suggestions?
@@faizulurrasyadi1893 850mv
fisrt try 1.0v with 1800mhz , then start down the voltage a bit like 0.025mv peer run , until crash , crash is you stable voltage with 1800mhz
Does this work with hp victus 15 rtx 3050 16gb ram i5 12450h ?
Yes it does!
should i still undervolt my rtx 3050 laptop? it rarely hits 80+ temp my GIGABYTE 3050 laptop has great cooling system.
I think it makes the system run better overall! :)
@@ImWateringPSUs it doesn't affect the fps when i undervolt my laptop?
Hey.
I have a dell g15 i5 12500h with rtx 3050 8 gb of ram.
When i play games with charger pluged in i get around 350-400 fps but as soon as i remove charger and try to play on battery i get like 10-15 fps.
Pls help 😖🥲
It means that it’s switching your GPU to the iGPU or tuning on a power saving setting. Check that, but generally laptops are not meant to be played on battery
@@ImWateringPSUs how to check the igpu setting please?
when i do the performance sitting my gpu temp reduced but my cpu temp increase to 97 - 99 c
Now try to undervolt tour cpu, or overclock it too
Is there a way to stop thermal throttling in this laptop ? I have the same HP Victus 16 Intel version. As soon as it reaches 82 - 86°C it starts thermal throttling and that's even annoying 😢.
Well this is what the video is about! If that's not enough, you do need to replace the thermal paste!
@@ImWateringPSUs no actually my GPU stays below 80°C but my CPU temp skyrockets to 86°C and starts thermal throttling on CPU intensive games.
im using nitro 5 with spec in i5-10gen ,rtx3060,my normal temperature if play AAA game or high setting i got max 93-94,here i thought 90 c is normal for laptop gaming😅😅
@@zan_chox LOL it's a step before death. Atleast yours wasn't throttling. Mine starts throttling at 85°C.
@@saintsfrowits base on the model of the laptop bro, me it go over 100°c and still be able to work ok :v
