what you referred to as the turkish part of cyprus is the illigaly occupied part of cyprus and that's the way you should refer to it to avoid supporting the turkish propaganda and misinforming the people that dont know.. The Turkish army violently forced a third of the island's Greek population from their homes in the occupied North, preventing their return and settling dirty turks from the mainland, ethnic cleansing. Also, as a result of the invasion, over 2000 Greek-Cypriot prisoners of war were taken to Turkey and detained in Turkish prisons. Some of them were not released and are still missing Since 1974, at least 55 churches have been converted into mosques and another 50 churches and monasteries have been converted into stables, stores, hostels, or museums, or have been demolished.
I hear what you're saying but to actually say in my videos "the illegally occupied part of Cyprus" would be taking a political position on an issue that I don't know much about. I've learned the basics but it's complicating and it's not the focus of my videos to go into the politics in-depth. So I'm just referring to it as Turkish to get the basic point across that Turkish people live there as differentiated from the Greeks in the south. It's a sad situation. At the restaurant in Paphos where I showed the prices in my video "How expensive is Cyprus" there was a story on their menu telling how they came to Paphos. They were from Famagusta and were forced out in 1974 and fled and ended up in Paphos.
So, it sounds similar to what happened to the Armenians? I heard that those people were just about wiped out completely. It's understandable though that Gabriel doesn't want or need to get into political discussions--his job is to do interesting travel videos--which he does so well. He doesn't have the time for political debate. However, I thank you spyro-for your explanation...because I was kind of wondering what happened, and why the country is divided.
I am a Turkish Cypriot living in Northern Cyprus and most Turkish Cypriots including me would agree with you about the Turkish army occupying the northern part of the island. However, we(Turkish Cypriots) have every right to be citizens of Cyprus. My parents were citizens of Republic of Cyprus before the island was divided and my mom was living in the Greek side town called Mari but forced to leave her home. While writing all these stuff you seem to forget that the main conflict started because mainly Greeks and some Greek Cypriots wanted make the whole island Greek by killing or forcing the Turkish Cypriots out of the island. At that point Turkey had all the rights to interfere in war because Turkey, Greece and the UK were the guarantor states.(If you need more info about this check this out: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Treaty_of_Guarantee_(1960) ). However, as I said before they have no rights to still keep their forces on the island and most of the Turkish Cypriots have negative opinions about Turkey because Turkish people keep coming to the northern part and spreading like a tumor. I don't understand why Greeks and Turks have this pissing contest between them, I know there were many conflicts between them in the past but this shouldn't affect the relations between them/us now. Also, I don't have any problems with Greek Cypriots and consider them and myself as Cypriots not Greek Cypriots or Turkish Cypriots.
Berk Topcu Frankly for you, your opinion on this matter is completely unsignificant since your whole "goverment" is fake, recognised by no one but the Turkish "people". You have no right to be a citizen here since you very clearly don't belong here. Turkish "Cypriots" belong in Turkey and Greek Cypriot belong in Cyprus, very simply put so your under developed mind can comprehend it.
Thank you so much for showing my beautiful Cyprus, Cyprus is my home land that I ones live ,now I am working on going ones again, ones again thank you, for showing this beautiful country :) to the world :)
I love Cyprus. Have been going there for holidays since 2009. If possible we go every year, sometimes even twice a year. I'm thinking of buying an appartement in Paphos so I can go more often and longer.
Trodos in the Mountains looked so beautiful even in the "snow storm" you encountered. The lunch of souvlaki that you enjoyed including the small "Greek salad" included for $9.50 was amazing. Love the prices and the "atmosphere" of Cyprus from the Sea to the Mountains...unpretentious, down to earth and majestic in it's natural beauty....doesn't get much better than that....
I've watched a few different travel blog channels, and I always come back to yours. I enjoy the simplicity, unpretentious, informative, off the beaten track videos. Keep it up!!!
Wow...Cyprus as you filmed it so well....looks like a great place for, as you would say, Gabriel...a "cool vacation"...Yes! Not overpriced like the French and Italian Riviera or even some of the Greek Island "hot spots" like Crete; but so reasonably priced for just untarnished natural beauty. Even during the "high Season", I can see that Cyprus would still be relaxing and not "over-run" with tacky "junk kiosks" and agressive vendors on the waterfront. Thank you for such an informative and well-filmed array of videos of Cyprus.......Can't wait to visit...
Just as you turn towards Avdimou, if you had turned right and then left further on, up the mountains you would have found my lovely OLIVE FARM RETREAT BED AND BREAKFAST, in a village not often marked on maps called Sterkavou (Half way up towards Kivides. Lovely high panoramic sea views and rural (only 6 residents and lots of goats farms!) Check it out on Airbnb if you come again. Very good prices with a pool (far cheaper than the apartments and very private farmhouse with lots of wildlife and tranquil. Glad you liked Omodos (but you need to go in the summer when there is a good village vibe). Also there you went past Socrates house (sign says this in the vlog where you saw wines in a row outside) - when his house is open (free to visit) he shows you inside and it is left as the original house would have been with loom, old documents etc. A must to visit. Best wishes.
Hi Gabriel, an excellent travelogue of Cyprus where my ancestors are from and where I have family. You really captured the essence of the parts you visited and recorded in your record!
Please please make your videos longer, I hate it when they end. They are just so awesome and I'm learning so much in readiness for my travels around the med. I'm hooked on all your uploads. A big huge thank you.
J Mm best place ever, I was made there in the 60’s, I get a very very homely feeling when I go back, unfortunately I was born in the U.K. I hope to make Cyprus my home one day😎👍🏽
I made my son in Cyprus :-) i lived in Paphos for nearly 10 years. Now I'm in the UK. If only it was easy to find a decent job, not just restaurant/hotel vacancy I guess I would return and my son would enjoy his swimming even more in the sea and swimming pools. I assume you will be retired once you move to Cy?
So nice to see you there Gabriel. My best friend is from Cyprus (Lemessos) and i've been there several times. It's a small country so you can go almost everywhere in 2-3 weeks. It's funny to see that we have been to same places. You have been in Greece and Albania which are my two countries, then all the adriatic coast and now Cyprus. So nice.
Those smoothie or yogurt drinks always look so good!! Having a smoothie is one of my favorites to have.. wow it snowing!! That's That's surprise holy moly
what you referred to as trash burner is actuallu a traditional oven made from mud. you start a fire in there so it gets hot and you remove the branches so you can bake food or bread and pies. the best thing to have is Ofto that is goat meat that takes hours to bake and gets tender!!
at 10:00 is not a burner trusher but a traditional oven that works with woods :), great job by the way and we epreciate your work :) Thanks for advertising our Country thats so nice of you
The right prononciation of the mountain is tr.o. o.dos. not trudos (as in kudos). Double -o- in the world troodos does not make an -u- . So it's tr o o dos not tr(u)dos.
So pretty and peaceful! Really interesting to see the climate diversity on a small island like that. I loved those two kitty cats that came up! Sweet. Have a good trip to the next destination. 👍🏼✌🏼
Dieter Fischer Compared to the state I live in, Colorado, it’s .03% of the size. I drive 70 km to work everyday, to and from, and Cyprus is 225 km across. To me, it’s small! 😃
Gabriel, I am impressed that you have been a traveling vlogger for as long as you have been without a girl to accompany you to stave off loneliness and to enhance the enjoyment of exploring the world.
Glad that you enjoyed my country :) nice to see your perspective. Platres is wonderful, it's where I got married. I'm from Limassol but paphos is our favorite place.
There is pin drop silence in cyprus?? Where do people live...i am not seeing even a single man/woman/ children on steets oe roads...but country is awesome...calm n peaceful
Ashish Rattanpal ..cities my friend, or very closed to one. Where he go is up to the mountains! Limassol and Nicosia are the biggest cities on island with combined population around 650k
Ashish Rattanpal. People take naps afyer their main meal, home cooked of course. Especially in the hot summer, like many countries, except USA, etc. Were they work you to death. No family time.
Ashish Rattanpal it was February and at daytime. People were either at home or at work, children at school! It’s a lot different during the summer. There are tourists and many locals who live in town but spend their holidays at the villages they come from.
@Dj Jimmys I am from Turkey and i live Famagusta , emu campus all people speak Turkish use Turkish Lira sign language is Turkish , Cyprus is not greek :))
Perry Jones You get used to it pretty quickly. South Africa drives on the left too and after a day you're used to it. The thing i couldn't get used to was the swapped turn signal and windscreen wiper. I always ended up turning on the wiper before making a turn.
At 9.54 that thing is a clay oven we slow cook the kleftiko wrapped in silver foil when you eat it the meat slides off the bone it is absolutely the best 👌
I have never seen snow in Cyprus before, amazing! Thank you for sharing. I'm excited to find out where your heading next, your so close to Greece but I know you love summers in Greece so not sure. Maybe Malta then Italy?! There's so many places to visit Haha
Bro 9.50 for that plate of food is not a good deal , trust me on that . Food in tourist areas is more expensive . If you go into more rural , sub-urban areas you can get food thats atleast cheaper than that , or at best more portion for your buck.
Re Gabriel, you really missed a lot in Cyprus if this is the best that you came up with, sorry bud. Come back for part 2, (ping me) for the real Cyprus any time of year off season or not. Good luck with your travels. :)
Gabe, you do such a beautiful job making videos & editing. What kind of music to add & what not. You should be proud of yourself, especially driving on the wrong side of the car. Haha.
love your video bro.you just fall me in my back days in 2003 days when i was in cyprus. I Love Cyprus a lot. i was there an international student in inter collage Larnaca and i just love.
We drive on the right side as well In Australia, my partner and I many years ago were in a country with left hand drive and when he was driving my heart was racing, I guess you just adapt to whichever country you live in! I have learnt I had ancestors from this region which I wasn't aware of so this makes Cyprus a very interesting place for me. It also looks quite beautiful!!!
Gabriel Go to Somaliland not to be confused to Somalia. Somaliland is very peaceful place and people are very welcoming and open minded. Alot of vloggers went there recently and I would like u to be one of them cuz u r my favourite vlogger.
I m glad to see someone from🇺🇸 I knew Californians like to explore and you right about the similarity with Ca. Just for your info Turkey invated the island Greek Cypriots we had to moved out by forced no choice move out or get killed. Cyprus is pretty from one side to another. Also the thing you called burner we bake roast and village bread you should have tried is so yummy.
Hi Gabriel, Love your videos. Love seeing an upload in my sub box. I was in Cyprus a few years ago, I did Ayia Napa and Nicosia. I went on a tour to 'Famagusta' it was a bus tour to the northern turkish part, you bring your passports and its a closed area that tourists can visit safely. I loved it. Just an idea for you!
Yes, but you can also find good deals. I paid about $80 including luggage and taxes for my flight from Jerusalem to Cyprus and from Cyprus to Greece, even though I booked them both just a few days before. There are usually random cheap deals if you're flexible.
Gabe, it's nice to see your editing improve and channel grow. It looks like your recent growth has coincided with your step up in effort with the new cam and conscious editing. Looks like your making some more money from it now, never seen you rent a car before ;)
The first art work is actually an electronic shop called public. The dome thing that you said it might be a trash burner is actually a traditional oven that you put burning wood on one side and lamp meat in pan and leave it for few hours to cook...
Ezra Cyprus is a very safe and clean country. It 's peak holiday season is between May -September and it s particularly hot ( over 35 ° C ). Beaches are lovely in Larnaca, limassol, Pafos but the best beaches are located in Protaras and Ayia Napa. It gets more quiet in October - November and weather is more pleasant. Mountains are spectacular and villages very charming too.
What you read wasn't referencing the the invasion, coop and general conflict between Greek and Turkish Cypriots. That started afte 1963. In 1821 Cyprus was still under ottoman rule like Greece. In 1821 Greek people revolted against the Turks to become independent. Because the Turks did not want the Greek Cypriots to revolt as well, they beheaded and hang priests and monks all around Cyprus as a "warning" to Cypriots as well as pay back for what was happening in Greece because the war in Greece was started and supported by the Greek church
Yes, although I don't remember what exactly I said in the video. I do know the history is very complicated and little known by most of the world. I did my best to learn a bit about it in my short time there, but it was undoubtedly cursory.
Yes I have a few ski videos, both cross country and downhill. In fact I got started on youtube with cross-country skiing videos, they're my first ones: ua-cam.com/users/gabejedmosearch?query=skiing
Loved this video, only wish it had been longer!! Makes me want to travel there in February. Perfect weather for me. I'm going to finish any videos you have on this area during your 2018 visit and then see how Jerusalem is, since you mentioned you had just been there!!
Hey Gabriel, did you ever feel lonely while traveling alone? By the way, great vlogs, showing not just the tourist popular places, but the actual countryside as well
That thing you didn't know what it was it's call fournos and we use it to cook kleftiko or make bread...we use woods to burn the fournos and then we put the food inside after it reach a certain temperature
HEY GABRIEL, VERY NICE VIDEO. TOO BAD ABOUT SO MUCH WIND. I LIKE ALL OF THE CATS BUT OF COURSE I'M A CAT PERSON. LOOKING FORWARD TO YOUR NEXT DESTINATION. BROCK
Right now I'm on the Turkish side of Cyprus. Everything is cheaper on the Turkish side, but everything seems to be rather rundown. I'm having fun here, but will visit the Greek side next. It's interesting to compare ❤
@@GabrielTravelerVideos lots to see on the Turkish side of Cyprus too Gabriel and there are two different viewpoints on the division of the Island Depending on whether you are of Greek or Turkish descent.
Next time head for TALA village. Just .15 minutes out of PAPHOS .some good bars and restraunts. Better prices than in PAPHOS .. avoid high summer far to hot .
just to say people in cyprus say we are greek yes we are but our language differs from the greek we speak more like slang plus people here stay most of time in their home
I'ts not slang its a dialect. There is a huge difference between the two. Slang reffers to the informal use of language, specifically, words or phrases, whilst dilects concern variations of different languages depending on their place of origin.
1:33 you know this is a real word video when a cat marks his territory. LOL Its funny I have no problems driving on the left, I lived in the UK for a few years, My problem was when I went back home to the USA after the second or third day I was driving on the left side without thinking about it.
That nissan note is identical to the one I had there. I was initially confused driving there as they drive on the left like the UK (where I'm from) but I didnt realise they used KPH instead of MPH for a while.
My grandfather was a world traveler in the 70s and 80s and his all time favorite country was Cyprus :)
❤
Your grandfather is a naughty man

I lived Cyprus for 3 years its such a beautiful place .. it will definitely touch ur soul
99oo
i lived there for just 1 year and i fall in love with Cyprus for ever.
haha at 10:00 is not a trash burner, is a traditional oven, you can make the best food from that
The "trash burner" you mentioned, is actually a hand built traditional oven. :) you're welcome
I'm half Cypriot I live in Cyprus and I'm happy I do

Steve Wilkins it’s not like that in the capital
to your question at 10 min... that is a oven. you can cook kleftiko in there. you burn wood in it and put the meat in and cooks for hours.
9:50 it's used mostly by the elderly to bake bread or kleftiko. My grandma has one and I've seen her use it a few times.
Very calm n clean town with lot of cats 🐱 🐱 🐱 😄 ... Snowfall was so good 😍

Thanks for the excellent video on Cyprus. I really had the feeling of having visited the island. Inland towns look very nice and cozy.

I think Cyprus is the most beautifull n safe country at this part of europe and the sky is amazing
I love the cobbled pathways near the restaurants. They make things feel so natural compared to asphalt and cement.

Great, thanks for the info Elena.
@@GabrielTravelerVideoswill be great to see more Americans🇺🇲 here. Enjoy your travels
Wow Cyprus is beautiful, we went there a few years ago but not in villages ,we missed out didn't we we did do a mountain safari, never again!!
Congratulations, beautiful Cyprus 🇨🇾
Greetings from the beautiful Hawaii islands 🏝
Pretty cool video Gabriel... Like the place as well... Loved the snow.. Safe Travels *Greg*
the roads are so good and so well preserved
Do you typically book your airline tickets just a few days before departure? Isn't that more expensive than booking a few weeks ahead?
Yes, but you can also find good deals. I paid about $80 including luggage and taxes for my flight from Jerusalem to Cyprus and from Cyprus to Greece, even though I booked them both just a few days before. There are usually random cheap deals if you're flexible.
Greece it is😎
Great video gab tbh i got rely inspired from your videos and we doing our first euro trip for 2 months this coming summer cant wait . Thanks a lot 😊
Dude!! That music background at 7:56! What is it?
Awesome vid, very cozy place. Keep going!
Found it in the description. Should've checked out there first. Cool, man!
I've got to tell you that very few days snows here and you are damn lucky to get caught in a snowy like situation especially that month
plot twist :cat gonna kill Gabe . 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Welcome to Cyprus!
Hi I was skiing ⛷ last January on troodos to rent skis boots pegs and a ski pass 20 euros decent little slopes
Gabe, it's nice to see your editing improve and channel grow. It looks like your recent growth has coincided with your step up in effort with the new cam and conscious editing. Looks like your making some more money from it now, never seen you rent a car before ;)
The "trash burner" is were we cook the traditional Ofto that you saw in the restaurant menus :)
The first art work is actually an electronic shop called public. The dome thing that you said it might be a trash burner is actually a traditional oven that you put burning wood on one side and lamp meat in pan and leave it for few hours to cook...
Thanks. So why is the oven on the street like that? Do people actually do their cooking there?
Now I'm researching Cyprus and planning a trip haha. Looks like a beautiful island!
Cool, go for it, it's definitely worth exploring.
Thanks for the info.
@@GabrielTravelerVideos hope what i wrote makes sense I'm a bit rubbish at explaining stuff especially in texts
Yes, although I don't remember what exactly I said in the video. I do know the history is very complicated and little known by most of the world. I did my best to learn a bit about it in my short time there, but it was undoubtedly cursory.
Ski resort, snow in Cyprus?! Awesome. You got me. Had to subscribe. Btw, do you ever ski? Not in Cyprus :)
Yes I have a few ski videos, both cross country and downhill. In fact I got started on youtube with cross-country skiing videos, they're my first ones: ua-cam.com/users/gabejedmosearch?query=skiing
Cool, thanks, looking forward to see them. I love your adventures and your videos.
Σαν την Κύπρο δεν έχει. Μακάρι να καταφέρω να μετακομίσω εκεί κάποια μέρα. Η Βρετανία είναι ένα τρελοκομείο, τίποτα παραπάνω.
Loved this video, only wish it had been longer!! Makes me want to travel there in February. Perfect weather for me. I'm going to finish any videos you have on this area during your 2018 visit and then see how Jerusalem is, since you mentioned you had just been there!!
Great. Here are my Jerusalem vids:

Hey Gabriel, did you ever feel lonely while traveling alone? By the way, great vlogs, showing not just the tourist popular places, but the actual countryside as well
Euro is same as usd now... so cheaper for US travelers. BUT Cyprus still expensive overall.
That thing you didn't know what it was it's call fournos and we use it to cook kleftiko or make bread...we use woods to burn the fournos and then we put the food inside after it reach a certain temperature
Coming from Ireland driving on the left feels normal for me 😆
HEY GABRIEL, VERY NICE VIDEO. TOO BAD ABOUT SO MUCH WIND. I LIKE ALL OF THE CATS BUT OF COURSE I'M A CAT PERSON. LOOKING FORWARD TO YOUR NEXT DESTINATION.
BROCK
You probably have already been told but the trash burning thing is a traditional oven :0 great great video as always cant wait for the next one
Wow is so beautiful place in the Cyprus country,,,, I want to go in Cyprus 💯🚶
Sound was great no problem!
Cool, thanks.
Very nice freaking island well worth the cost$.🏝👌
Right now I'm on the Turkish side of Cyprus. Everything is cheaper on the Turkish side, but everything seems to be rather rundown. I'm having fun here, but will visit the Greek side next. It's interesting to compare ❤
Cool, thanks for the info. I'm curious to see the Turkish side sometime.
@@GabrielTravelerVideos lots to see on the Turkish side of Cyprus too Gabriel and there are two different viewpoints on the division of the Island Depending on whether you are of Greek or Turkish descent.
spring time in february. nice touch!
Snow in Cyprus?! who'd have thunk it
Winter in Cyprus is just for 3 months! January- march, and its snows on troodos mountain....
@@NearchouEntertainment we actually had a snowstorm this May in Troodos
the snow in december and january reach up to like 30 cm so u missed that
At 10.00 that thing is for cook!!
Cyprus is also partly Turkish and has a big Turkish community.
LOL
Its funny I have no problems driving on the left, I lived in the UK for a few years, My problem was when I went back home to the USA after the second or third day I was driving on the left side without thinking about it.
This thing you saw and didnt know what it is, its actualy a sealed oven for lamp and thats what kleftiko means :D
That nissan note is identical to the one I had there. I was initially confused driving there as they drive on the left like the UK (where I'm from) but I didnt realise they used KPH instead of MPH for a while.
