Northern Cyprus is a country, albeit a largely unrecognised one. It has all the characteristics of a country except global recognition. Other countries in the same situation are Taiwan, Transnistria, Nagorno-Karabakh, South Ossetia, Abkhazia and Somaliland. Countries that are recognised by either very few or no countries. Even Somaliland, which is recognised by NO country, is very much a country even if people in Mogadishu will go mad at you for calling it a country or even just visiting it. There are only 7 countries of this type in the world and Northern Cyprus is one of them. People may moralise how much they want over this, but Northern Cyprus is a type of country and the people who live there very much sees it as a country. Some people even sees Scotland as a country even though it's part of the UK. I understand though how it sometimes may not count as one of the countries visited by a world traveler as it is not a member of the UN. This usually also apply to Taiwan etc. And Turkish Cypriots are very much a nation in their own right, clearly linguistically (dialect) and culturally distinct from Anatolian Turks and almost everyone in the Northern Cyprus Government cabinet including the President and Prime Minister are Turkish Cypriots. Yes, some of the houses used to be inhabited by Greek Cypriots who had to flee, just like some houses in Paphos, Limassol and Larnaca used to be inhabited by Turkish Cypriots, who also had to flee. And I have yet to hear anyone calling tourism there immoral or unethical so far for that reason.

Should you be upset (not you, Gabriel) with Turkey that this island has changed hands as to whom ruled over it for millenia? History, is said, to repeat, and it absolutely did here. It's unlikely in this century that the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus will change hands, as weaponry has become so deadly as to make war such an unpleasant and undesirable undertaking.
Always amazed by ancient architecture, without modern equipment. How long did it take to construct such fascinating buildings. Love the archway style doorways throughout.😊❤
Nice video again Gabriel ! 😀 Make a first impression of the city of the Neum , the only Bosnian - Herzegovinian city on the sea , the Bosnian Monte Carlo ! 😀
Yes, I've considered it for thirty three years, since my first trip to Greece in 1990. Hopefully I can make it happen one of these years. It will require some advanced planning because you have to get a permit.
I have a question to the rest of the world, how would you feel if your local church was turned into a bar, a farm for animals or a mosque? Is this fair? Is there justice in this world? How would you feel if your country has 4000 years old history but it was attacked and completely ruined? Yes Cyprus was colonised by many empires but we never changed our language and culture. How does Turkey want to enter the EU if they don't respect other cultures? They didn't leave anything Greek.
You mean the occupied side of Cyprus by Turkey. In 1974 Turkey occupied 36.2% of the island and displaced 120 thousand Greek Cypriots (another 20 thousand remained trapped), while in total approximately 3 thousand Greek-speaking Cypriots were killed. In 1983, the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus was declared recognized only by Turkey.
I really enjoyed this one, Gabriel! Really interesting old buildings and ruins, and beautiful shots of the sea. I liked the music you chose, too, it really added to the experience. Wow, the food at the end looked amazing and delicious! Do you eat most of your meals at restaurants? Do you ever get accommodations with a kitchen, so you can prepare some of your own food? It would be less expensive probably but with your schedule, it might not be feasible. I know you don't stay in one place very long!
Thanks. All the songs are listed in the description below the video. I never cook for myself while traveling other than buying simple breakfast stuff and snacks at a supermarket. But when it comes to dinner, I don't want to cook for myself for a bunch of reasons: 1. I'm not a great cook. 2. I want to eat the local food. 3. Buying a bunch of items at the supermarket to cook dinner for one person would probably be more expensive than going out, since I wouldn't use everything and can't carry food with me when I leave. 4. At the end of the day I'm generally exhausted and the thought of both shopping and cooking is a very simple hard no. 5. I do my video editing in the evening, so I don't have time to shop and cook, or I wouldn't get my work done. 6. I like to edit videos at a nice restaurant with some atmosphere while waiting for someone else to cook some good local food for me.

10:51 The even brazenly called a street "Atilla sokak", after the so-called "peace operations" Atilla 1 and 2, which destroyed the constitution of Repubic of Cyprus and split the country in two.
To stop the Greek Cypriots genociding the Turkish Cypriots, refrain from commenting if you don't have a clue what you're talking about.
@@mrkartalinvestments6299 Turks committed actual genocide in Anatolia, whereas Greek Cypriots only committed imagined one, and also imagined future one, only imagined by Turks, and no one else.
Cool
Destroyed the junta’s fascist constitution
@@tombuddy100we’re talking about cyprus
But if you want to talk about Anatolia, there hasn’t been a genocide for many centuries.
What do you film on?
DJI Osmo, I always list the camera I use below the video.
The occupied side from Turks is not recognised for any country of the world expect turkey !
23:28 Is that the dome or roof of the church you were in?
Should you be upset (not you, Gabriel) with Turkey that this island has changed hands as to whom ruled over it for millenia? History, is said, to repeat, and it absolutely did here. It's unlikely in this century that the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus will change hands, as weaponry has become so deadly as to make war such an unpleasant and undesirable undertaking.
Always amazed by ancient architecture, without modern equipment. How long did it take to construct such fascinating buildings. Love the archway style doorways throughout.😊❤
Gabriel , Very interesting . Thank you for continuing to educating us !
Nice video again Gabriel ! 😀 Make a first impression of the city of the Neum , the only Bosnian - Herzegovinian city on the sea , the Bosnian Monte Carlo ! 😀
Hey gab.. ever consider going to mount Athos? We’d love to see that!
Not many tourists around
You mean the occupied side of Cyprus by Turkey. In 1974 Turkey occupied 36.2% of the island and displaced 120 thousand Greek Cypriots (another 20 thousand remained trapped), while in total approximately 3 thousand Greek-speaking Cypriots were killed. In 1983, the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus was declared recognized only by Turkey.
Nonsense. Cyprus is under the occupation of the Greek Cypriots and Greeks.

@@GabrielTravelerVideos That makes so much sense, Gabriel! I figured that was probably the case.
Anyway, it really is nice to try out the local cuisine, isn't it? I love it when you show what you had for your meals, it always looks so delicious! 😊
..Vacationing in occupied lands from 50 years ago..go to Donbas and Crimea for hiking next ..
Turkish people were also living on the greek side before the justice Turkey did. Bothnsides have casualties. Get over it.
@@john-mq8wjwhat do you mean return?
Greek Cypriots can come north there is no problem.
@@TaySplatoon They can come visit?
No, they want to be given back their property and live in them.
@@john-mq8wj if you guys decide to reunite then yes why not? You can then return ours too. We Turks are and always are willing to reunite but tour government doesn't want to. We had our chance in the referandum but the Greeks said no. What can we do? We can't do more than that.
Bhutan just cut the visitor fee in half … it’s time to see that kingdom
Awesome news, that's great to hear.
👍👍👍
whats that noise in the background? is anybody else hearing it
At what point in the video?
@@GabrielTravelerVideos about the first 4 minutes then it stopped i have a feeling it might have been my Headphones or my Laptop
Maybe the hum of waves hitting the pier.
@@garyrigby21 I have the same feeling. 😁
Watched a couple minutes of it and I knew it would have biased incorrect information. It was not a invasion! You mention when Turkey came the Greeks fled to the south. You forgot to mention the Turks who lived in the south had to fled to north. The Ottomans ruled the island the Greeks have never ruled the island. Before the Ottomans it was the Venetians ruling. Before Turkey army came in 1979 the Greeks Cypriots were killing everyone who got in their way of ENOSIS (union with Greece) killing Turkish Cypriots
the greek eoka were not killing turkish cypriots only. they were also killing leftist greek cypriots (akel supporters) too.. if turkish military operation was made a few weeks later there would not be any leftist greek cypriot or turkish cypriot alive
Will you go to the rave later at the beer/church thing? The guy looked kind of sketchy..
Crazy prices, Gabe....🙂
