We spent a whole week riffing, criticizing, and pointing out potholes with the teacher and it was honestly one of the most fun and entertaining times in high school. A lot of people assume the actors' performances are terrible, but that's really how Bella and Edward are portrayed in the books. Their act is actually genius
ive never thought the performances were terrible. but i also am old as fuck and saw it with the lens of someone who has been in the theater and knows film well. always seemed to me to be purposely campy and very self aware
I agree, plus if you look at some of the other firms that say, Kristen Stewart has been in, you'd be surprised Speak (2004?) She was a kid in this film but it still breaks my heart, because I went through similar stuff Fierce people (Around the same time period I believe) she does play more of a crazy rich girl here, but you'll notice her characters are different She does often smile, although she has a small smile at that, a kind of awkward one, no offence to the woman, but it's small and not super obvious, but that's her smile and just because her mouth corners aren't ear to ear doesn't mean she's not smiling I remember everyone used to rag on her for not smiling but she was just playing the part, poor thing lol
I mean Robert has said in interviews that he was almost fired from the job because he kept trying to do something different with the character that went against...well what we got on the screen lol

This is so unbelievably cathartic. I was just the right age and demographic to be obsessed with Twilight when the books and movies originally came out, and so are a lot of my friends, so I haven’t met many people who haven’t seen at least the first Twilight movie. This is the reaction content I never knew I needed. The delight in Charlie’s face when he started describing the insane plot just sparks joy in my heart. My boyfriend and I are going to re-watch them all, thanks for the inspiration.
Lmao when i watched the film after years of everyone gushing over it, I literally laughed out loud when Edward makes this whole big deal about "you need to see me in the light/i'm a monster" and then proceeds to *gently glisten*
I watched him as he came out. I was so shocked on the sparkling scene. After rewatching the scene, I laughed until everything hurts. It was so bad, I loved it.
The funniest part about when the Cullens leave in New Moon (at least in the books), is that it says he took everything that could lead back to any of them from her, including pictures and presents whatever. This also includes Edward going out of his way to rip out the new sound system out of Bella’s truck that Emmett had just installed. Hilarious😂
I got my bf at the time to watch all of them w me and at one point he fell asleep but I shook him a little hoping he’d at least get to see the Jacob imprinting thing and I shook and whispered “you have to wake up Jacob just fell in love w a baby” I’ve never seen someone bolt upright like that out of sleep
My gf had me watch the whole series too, and I surprisingly kinda liked it. It had a few good bits sprinkled here and there, the rest of the time was awesomely bad, so I was entertained the whole time, just not how she imagined. If I have to find something to praise, I liked how the blue grey filter was removed when she got turned. (Charlie likely already got spoiler bombed), it was a nice surprise. The absolute highlights were the cursed cgi baby, and the final fight were I was like "Well *now* it gets good!", only to be blueballed, and legit pissed off. Shit was hilarious.

As far as the acting goes, I think that Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson are doing exactly what is asked of them. And it's so amazing how they translated into performance. Because it's been proven that they're both good actors.
Fr, people criticized Stewart for having no charisma and acting too “quirky” but that is literally how Bella is in the books, except even more judgemental and obsessed with being different™️
This is exactly how I felt. In the beginning I was dead set on the film being unwatchable, but a few years later I saw my mom and sister watching it and found it so bad that it was really enjoyable.
These books made every chick in high school suddenly friends. Goth chicks, softball team, stoners, preps. They dropped the care for cliques to all talk about Twilight. Then the movies came out. I remember going to see Eclipse with my ex and all the dudes waiting in line with their dates all looked super defeated.
Charlie, you're sleeping on The Host. Another Stephenie Meyer joint, where the protagonist spends the majority of the movie talking to themselves. Pure gold.

I’ve always loved the Twilight movies, they were so bad that they’re amazing. From Bella’s vapid expressions and she frowns and shakes her head in response to everything, to the sparkly vampires for some reason, to the Mormon overtones. 10/10
My absolute favorite scene in the book is when Edward gets horny over Bella wearing a full-length khaki skirt... he literally describes her as "utterly indecent" 🤣 The Mormon really jumped outta Stephenie Meyer when she wrote that
The goofiest thing about these movies is that whenever Edward isn’t in his angry mode, he has a permanent Zoolander stare and I simply cannot hold even the slightest giggle every time he’s on screen
Every year since i was 15 (im 29 now) i have a Twilight movie marathon night and Its such a good laugh! I started as a teenage twi-hard that read all the books many times over and then I remember driving 2 hrs on a school night with my bff and her mum just to go watch the release of the first movie. We were obsessed to say the least. But all these years later, those movies are a yearly re-watch. Too many hilariously bad but iconic scenes like when Bella walks into class and Edward smells her. With the compost garden scene you’re forgetting how he started that conversation. In the previous scene, Bella rejected a date proposal from one of her friends and told him she can’t because she’s going to Jacksonville. What appears to be an hour later, Edward, who was not in that conversation, walks up to her and , unprompted, asks “what’s in Jacksonville?”
That scene with the blood enticement!!! While I never watched these movies, I remember my cousin who did watch it and came to me saying "Women get on their period, aren't vampires supposed to smell that, why do they lose their balls over a cut" I died laughing for a long time just the way she said it. This memory definitely came to mind watching commentary
I find it so silly that if Jasper goes crazy over a paper cut, WHY LET HIM INTO A HIGHSCHOOL, there's always gonna be someone with a period or a scraped knee
Someone actually asked the creator of twilight (forgot her name) and apparently since the blood isn't fresh like from a cut or something they aren't attracted to it

My god I can not wait for him to watch the rest of the movies if this is his reaction to the first one. They truly get SO MUCH worse. The reveal after the big battle in the last movie genuinely made me laugh for like five minutes straight. Its one of the funniest things ive ever seen.
One time I saw a short comic where, after finding out one guy is a vampire and another guy is a werewolf, Bella starts being paranoid that everyone around her is a mummy or a zombie or some other monster.
Like a bunch of us got hooked on the books back in the day because we couldn't tell how bad it was. And then the movie came out and a lot of us said, "Wait... this is just like the books. And it's bad." This breakdown of the series is going to be glorious.
Mmmmmm I can't really agree that it's the same as the books. From what I remember neither Bella nor Edward are so... dead in the books. I remember enjoying the books very much, where as the movies are like a "guilty pleasure".
I couldnt help laughing at that chemistry introduction because its literally played like she shot her pants in front of the fan and it just blasted his senses like the screwdriver slipped testing the demon core.
The actor didn‘t like the books or characters and portrayed Edward different than what he was described as. In the books he is more melancholic than angry, he is much more romantic and has some kind of humour. He thinks Bella is entertaining because of her clumsiness but it also makes him worried about her. He never gets angry at her, he just looks angry in this one scene when they first meet but later clarifies that he was angry at himself because of his lack of self control. In the movies he looks like he is going to vomit on her constantly.

In my senior year a few weeks before graduation one of my teachers decided to play the Twilight movies as most people in my class hadn't seen it. We spent a whole week riffing, criticizing, and pointing out potholes with the teacher and it was honestly one of the most fun and entertaining times in high school. A lot of people assume the actors' performances are terrible, but that's really how Bella and Edward are portrayed in the books. Their act is actually genius
one of the rare occurances where the movie is significantly better than the book, and both are still shit
ive never thought the performances were terrible. but i also am old as fuck and saw it with the lens of someone who has been in the theater and knows film well. always seemed to me to be purposely campy and very self aware
And I love that Robert makes fun of the movies in his interviews. 😂
I agree, plus if you look at some of the other firms that say, Kristen Stewart has been in, you'd be surprised
Speak (2004?) She was a kid in this film but it still breaks my heart, because I went through similar stuff
Fierce people (Around the same time period I believe) she does play more of a crazy rich girl here, but you'll notice her characters are different
She does often smile, although she has a small smile at that, a kind of awkward one, no offence to the woman, but it's small and not super obvious, but that's her smile and just because her mouth corners aren't ear to ear doesn't mean she's not smiling
I remember everyone used to rag on her for not smiling but she was just playing the part, poor thing lol
I mean Robert has said in interviews that he was almost fired from the job because he kept trying to do something different with the character that went against...well what we got on the screen lol

MY HEART LITERALLY DROPPED I THOUGHT AFTER THE SNEAKO CONVERSATION HE WATCHED CUTIES IN FULL
I mean.... I wanted to vomit. 🤮

It’s like crack, it might not be good for you, but god damn it does it feel good.
He needs to live stream a react video so we can suffer with him!!!
