Shows how important this deal is for Boeing, they more or less pays Airbus money for not taking this merger to the European competition regulators which can make much problems since the involved factories are in Europe and therefore out of reach for US regulators
At least Airbus and its employees won’t have to deal with Spirit anymore. Airbus will basically be putting together the main parts of its aircraft in their own factories now, which is good. But it’s definitely a good decision by Boeing and I hope that all goes well (but I’m skeptical).
Given how many issues seemed to be secondary effects from Boeing management decisions, it seems questionable how much could improve anything. Plus even if QA problems came from Spirit, that is still something they should have been looking out for when Boeing management decided to spin them off in the first place. Which there should have been plenty of leverage to get QA via contracting process in the window they were a supplier largely dependent on them, unless just was not willing to spend the money to do things properly, which with Boeing seems far more likely in recent decades.
I think this makes a lot of sense. As long as Boeing works very hard to make sure it gets back on track to avoid any future errors, and recover from past problems.
When it comes to Boeing, I have learned to expect the worst. There has been so much happening with the company and it's airplanes that I haven't a positive thing to say after being super loyal for so many years. The buying back of Spirit is a start I suppose. What next I ask?

I'd say this is a positive change. I'm glad that this gives Airbus the opportunity to distance themselves from Spirit and hopefully take ownership more of their production line.
I'm guessing Boeing's beancounters were getting concerned about the possibility of Spirit doing something stupid like hiring more quality assurance inspectors or requiring more worker training or something ridiculous like that.
Boeing should stop for the rest of the year get rid of everyone that Calhoun hired And start from scratch. If Boeing continues with no change hope they go bankrupt
@hwaiskywind5624 If Boeing has any foresight it should bring back as much as the 787 manufacturing in house especially fuselage components as much as possible its maybe a bit difficult now but will really pay dividend in the end. Manufacturing a modern plane is different from assembling an I phone.
This was part of Boeing they spun off like 20 years ago, while they have picked up some subcontracting to other major manufactures over time, even today like 80% of work they are contracted to do is still with Boeing.

Makes sense. Now Boeing can better coordinate covering up any quality escapes without having to leave the "house" they built.
I think this makes a lot of sense. As long as Boeing works very hard to make sure it gets back on track to avoid any future errors, and recover from past problems.
Boeing has to fortify and consolidate manufacturing processes for the sake of safety. Such amalgation is crucial to meet such goal.
It will be very interesting to see how this reintegration pans out. Is it a ruse or a genuine attempt to clean up the Boeing act.

Boeing has always done such great aircraft that i only hope the best for them. Like we say in Spain "El jamón serrano y el avión americano!"
I wonder ho the person who forgot to install those door bolts is mentally affected by the shockwaves of what they set in motion.
But, will it allow for the necessary management changes needed to return Boeing to a product quality focus and away from a profit focus?
Just About time. Would they take the chance and spin off all McDonald & Douglas “leadership”… and we would be back to have a great company: Boeing.

It is a great step forward. Now they only need to stop that "more with less" mentality and hope things will work out for B.

Wonder who AirBus will now go to for parts?
That most likely will be sold to Airbus. Question is under which terms, as Airbus already requested compensation for taking over parts.
Airbus receives the part from Spirit, which produces its parts, for the symbolic price of one dollar. Both manufacturers are therefore satisfied.
According to the Gardian, Airbus will take over all the Spirit factories in Northern Ireland and Boeing will pay Airbus USD 559 million for doing so
