      @@02hockeystick19 well believe or not airlines would have the expectancy that the problem will be fixed. The GTF advantages are pretty big and airlines won’t just order the LEAP because “it’ll never be fixed”. The problem is how long it’s taking to fix and it’s not common for airlines to order mixed engine fleets

      This issue affects only previously delivered (2015-2021) and some of the aircraft, not the new ones.
      PW is 100% American company (CFM is 50%) and most of the affected airlines like Frontier, Spirit and Jetblue are also American. This has its own advantages.
      And PW accepts responsibility, pays compensation. So why not order new A320s with PW now when problem has been resolved?

    I don't know why the airlines such as Wizz air is still choosing Pratt and Whitney engines to power their upcoming A320neo aircrafts instead of Leap CFM engines.
    Do Pratt and Whitney engines offer some more things than Leap CFM engines?

    • @Prodagist
      @Prodagist 2 дні тому

      The P&W engines do, in fact, offer a couple of things that make them superior to the leap. For starters, they're a decent bit more fuel efficient than the Leap. As problematic as those geared turbofans are, they do significantly reduce fuel burn. The second big thing is the superior heat management system compared to the Leap. The PW engine can regulate its temperature extremely reliably to ensure the engine remains at peak performance regardless of whether it's extremely hot out, or extremely cold out, which makes the engine the superior choice for airlines that consistently operate in areas with poor flight conditions.
      Obviously the reliability issues make the benefits of the PW engine seem pointless, but if they can work the issues out then the PW engines may be simply the superior choice later down the line.

    Wizz Air is rightfully complaining, because competitor and LCC market leaser Ryanair has its own 737 delivery issues and not having enough aircraft prevents them to gain easy market share.
    Vueling has some aircraft with affected PW engines.
    Obviously Easyjet having an A320 fleet with CFM engines is the winner here.

  • @jfmezei
    @jfmezei 2 дні тому +1

    OUt of curiosity, are the A220 and the Embreay E2 also affected because they sue the same family GTDF engine? or are the flaws very particular to the variat done for the A320 ? If all GTF are involved how come we don,t hear horror stories about 220 and E2 jet operators?

    • @Prodagist
      @Prodagist 2 дні тому

      The A220 and E2's are both having problems aswell, just not as much at the A320's. The big contributing factor is WHO is operating the 220's and E2's compared to the 320 neos.
      The A320 Neo is popular worldwide, primarily outside of North America. Many of these airlines are expirencing the engine issues. Many of the A220 and E2's biggest operators are North American.
      Some huge A220 operators in NA include: Delta Airlines, Air Canada, Jet Blue, and Breeze.
      As for the E2, while it isn't as popular as the A220, the largest operator of the E2 in the world is Porter airlines in Canada.
      Why is this important? Well Pratt and Whitney is an American company. It primarily operates in the US but also has a huge division dedicated to Canada. All these North American Airlines basically get special matinence and easy access to parts directly from Pratt and Whitney, so when an engine has problems, it's fixed within a few days rather than the longer times airlines in Europe or Asia expirence. Thus, the problems aren't reported. This means that you're just naturally going to see less A220 and E2 issues reported since so many of these aircraft reside in a continent that has easy access to the matinence require to get the aircraft airborne again.

  • @kevindigo22
    @kevindigo22 2 дні тому +1

    Why is Wizz Air affected by this more so than their competitors? Did they elect to have their new NEO planes supplied with the P&W GTF's and the others don't have these engines? I thought the idea behind GTF technology was to get better fuel efficiency by slowing the fan down with the gearing.....maybe not such a great idea if the gearing is not reliable. Also, out of curiosity....is the assembly footage in this video from the Airbus Hamburg plant?

  • @j.c.k.0
    @j.c.k.0 2 дні тому

    Air New Zealand have forked out over $40m for a new MRO Engine facility for the GTF to aid P&W in overhauling the engines. Air NZ have many grounded A320 and A321 due to this issue also along with grounded 78s with the RR Trent issue.

  • @jacobnathanielzpayag3885
    @jacobnathanielzpayag3885 2 дні тому

    That's the tradeoff you get when being the first to receive new generation products. I do believe PW sort of saw this coming as they introduced a relatively new concept for turbofans on an airplane that flies many hours on a single day. However, no one could have ever expected how this has affected carriers globally. Where I live, Cebu Pacific has resorted to leasing A320ceo units as they have already retired their older A320ceo before the mass groundings of the GTF took place, They are expected to lease more aircraft as more GTF-powered ones are grounded in the coming months. Philippine Airlines meanwhile took this as an opportunity to also perform a cabin upgrade for their A321neos by fitting them with IFE displays on all classes while the aircraft are grounded. I think PW may have fixed the issue starting with 2023 units as airlines keep ordering the GTF in mass quantities.
