Yet it's heavy and catchy and overall, it's good for Rock because it connects to people.. It's one thing to not like it that much.. but to call it "shit" ?? The bands and genres that Finn loves, nobody has ever heard of .. and when he plays examples or shows videos of these bands, the music is true shit in every way.. takes no talent to create and is completely unknown.. as it should be. It's shitty garage rock from punks.. basically noisy., talentless and thrown together and has nobody listening to it.. I'd like to see one of Finn's favorite bands attempt to write music that connects to anyone other than some teenage punks.. These "butt rock" bands are big time, signed bands that have been around for a long time. Many of them have toured with huge legacy acts. The first time I saw Shinedown was with VH on a world tour. These bands have sold millions of albums and have worldwide fans.. it's like Finn thinks that if something is popular that it automatically sucks.. This, along with Finn's obsession with clothing makes me drop comments on his videos like this.. Finn is not the arbiter of what's "cool" in the Rock genre.. He only pretends to be. The fact that he disses these bands shows that he is out to lunch.. and.. with all that said.. I'm not even a fan of any of these bands.. But when I check in on them and hear what they are putting out.. I respect it.. It's heavy, it's catchy, the production is great.. I mean.. go and listen to Breaking Benjamin's last album.. It's badass in every way! Heavy, fresh, complex.. everything you want a band to be.. and.. accessible
The fact that you guys use the term “butt rock” to describe this music is laughable. Music is great, badass and somehow bands like Linkin Park aren’t included in this when they’re pretty much the same thing.
lmfao, we need more of these. One opinion I have - I think Chevelle doesn’t really fit the butt rock mold anymore and they never really looked the part - it was three kinda nerdy brothers playing rock and a lot of pretty heavy screaming parts in some of their music.
“Yahrling in the grass” and “Butt Rockin on the beach” are some of the funniest phrases I’ve heard lol although you’ve got tons of great one liners lol love the channel Finn!
I definitely bump chevelle up in my tier list, I genuinely really like this band. Chat definitely choose wrong song for finn to react, they have harder songs that he might've liked
You say "butt rock sucks" and I will personally contest this if no one else does. I love punk and metal but sometimes I just wanna rock out and not think about my music taste nor my hairline. All jokes aside, I love this video and I appreciate that you appreciate Godsmack, keep up the great work Finn.
Same for me. Sometimes I don't want to Cradle of Filth, Amon Amarth or anything like that and just want to chill. Plus my wife likes it so get brownie points.
"You guys are nerds and I'm a Chad, so we won't see eye to eye." That's the most alpha thing I've ever heard. I'm happy to line up behind you and follow your lead, sir. Teach me your ways.
Breaking Benjamin actually puts on an insane show. I had low expectations and bought another band's t-shirt the day I saw them. I bought the wrong shirt.
It shouldn’t be called that way because they’re not different to bands like Linkin Park or Papa Roach. It’s pretty much hard rock from the 2000s. The term butt rock makes it seem like it’s bad music
Godsmack has put on a killer live show both times I’ve seen them. I never really listen to them anymore but if they’re in town, I’ll happily go see them. Sully is an electric frontman and when they do the dueling drums it’s a blast to watch. The crowd has also been the exact stereotypes Finn talks about every time, which makes me smile lol
100%, they were kinda buttrock-y when they first came out but it's just crazy to call them that now. They're one of those rare bands that have got better and better with every album release
They are the best of them live as well. When I was in high school I saw Chevelle 3 times and they always did well. Dean is a beast on bass. I also saw 3DG 3 times and they were bad live all 3 times unfortunately. Could have been the festival setups tho but idk. Then they replaced their singer so it made more sense later.
I listen to death metal all day every day and it’s my favorite type of music by a long shot, but I will champion Breaking Benjamin until the day I’m toasted into ashes. They’re catchy and fun as hell to listen to. They’re the easiest rock music to put on in the car with a mix of people who don’t like my taste in metal.
These tier lists are definitely my favorite content of yours. You could literally do one of these for anything (even non-music lol) and I would watch it. Also, shout out to you for uploading stream highlights that are on the level of other folks’ actual videos Love to see it!
We did the same thing. Even managed to do it in our Bradley as well. My BC and driver were black dudes so our music was always gangsta rap and Slayer lol. Blew their minds when I showed them Body Count and that Ice T played metal lol
A Butt Rock tier list isn't complete without Seether, Saliva, and Evanescence. Some people consider Disturbed and Drowning Pool more nu-metal, but I consider them Butt Rock.
I see Breaking Benjamin as more wasted talent. Burnley is a fantastic vocalist but they make the most aggressively uninspired music out there. Every album sounds exactly the same, no experimentation, all the songs are almost exactly 3:30 long, the lyrics are just a bunch of vague angsty words strung together in a way that's not even grammatically correct half the time. I used to listen to them a lot when I was a teenager but then when I got older they started to sound cringey and silly. I can get why people like them, and I do think they're overall good musicians, but sometimes you just want more than they can offer.

My mom's favorite bands are Godsmack and Disturbed, she loves Breaking Benjamin and Three Days Grace as well. With a black dad, If it wasn't for her and butt rock I never would've gotten into metal music.
@@kingexclusivo Their first album is pretty butt rock-y. One X and Life Starts Now are a little different. And Transit of Venus is okay. But one thing I will say is that they have a certain sound. Whether it be guitar tone or Adam's singing, they may be butt rock but they have a specific sound to them.
Fact about 5FDP, they're very humble guys. I got to work their show at Bridgestone this year and all of them came up to us stagehands and shook our hands and thanked us. Very cool sign of honor from that band.
They're my favorite band of all time. I bumped them a lot during middle and high school. I moved on to metal (anything from classic heavy metal to death metal to black metal) and I still love them. The song he played is called Rawkfist and it's from their album Phenomenon. Great starting point.
I unabashedly love Godsmack. Probably because they're the first non-"classic rock"/modern-ish rock/metal band I discovered. All of the band members are super talented, too. 😃 And Breaking Benjamin is amazing, especially live. Both Godsmack and Breaking Benjamin have actually continued to grow and make better music.
Godsmack has gotten decidedly more mellow in my opinion over the years. Bulletproof doesn’t hold a candle to their old stuff like I Stand Alone. Still a great band tho I wish them the best
Godsmacks arguably in my top 5 without question, sure they changed there sound and went in the same lane as Shinedown/Theory but it’s albums like there debut/awake/faceless that keeps me going back. Breaking Benjamin imo is one band that never switched up or ‘souled out’ as most people quote it. You listen to dark before dawn/ember and still sound like something recorded from 2002-2004 that’s how ahead they are. This might be wrong comparison but far as consistency/longevity goes I’d put them in the Linkin Park of 2022 category
I can admit I’ve never really been into Godsmack. I can remember when they were a local band getting pushed by WAAF seeing them at early shows. Couldn’t believe it when they were up on the bill at Woodstock. After seeing them at their millennium show New Years night 99 I think I maybe saw them twice after that.
Dependinf on what you mean by hard, they definitely do. Both lyrically and musically. The clincher has some of my favorite drop D guitars and screaming in the genre
I would put money on the origin of the name Godsmack being that one of them heard someone say "gobsmacked" and they were like "...almost onto something"
I admittedly have a soft spot for all these bands but for Chevelle being a radio alt/nu metal band they we’re actually really heavy at times and had some great songs.
I feel like Chevelle is not butt rock, way too creative and progressive, easily better than all the other bands on this list imho. Honestly more Tool-esque than anything. They are one of the few on this list actually still going pretty strong too.
All of these have an argument for being buttrock (and I love most of them), except for Chevelle. I've never once thought they sound the way they do to be cool, edgy or tough. I wouldn't call them super commercial either, as being palatable isn't the same as being commercial. They've got a killer tone and they can write a good riff. The main riff of Humanoid is one of my favorites ever.
Hilarious but I gotta disagree with Shinedown, they’re a solid A tier band. They’re one of the most commercially successful bands ever, most #1 singles ever, something like that
You like what you like! No shame. Unless we catch you in a TJ Maxx suit that your wife helped you pick out, complete lack of wrist accessories, playing a PRS SE at Wilbert's Food & Music on a Tuesday.
I have a funny story about Five Finger Death Punch. I had no idea who they were when one of their songs came on the jukebox at a very packed pool hall on a Friday or Saturday night. I zeroed in on a repetitive lyric, “NO ONE GETS LEFT BEHIND!” Realizing what I was hearing, I went to my friend at an adjacent table and said, “do you hear this? This is total war propaganda,” to which he said, “I don’t know what that means, but I think those guys put it on,” as he pointed to a bunch of guys, one of whom looked like he was on the verge and was wearing a Dysfunctional Veteran shirt. They threatened to kick my ass and I just thanked him for his service and all was good.
The fifteen year old version of myself is not upset I'm investing 30 minutes for a Butt Rock video, just disappointed. I only watch them to support Finn and his content. I swear! Lol! 🤣😜
Growing up in middle school, we called it Trailer Trash Metal. It just seemed like everyone we knew at the time who LOVED these bands lived in the trailer park by our neighborhood.
Always get super nostalgic hearing old 3 Days Grace. They were my first concert in like 2010 and I remember going to Target the next day and getting their first two albums. I listened to those babies nonstop for a solid year. Huge gateway band for me. They S tier easy imo. Also, you did Shinedown dirtyyy putting them down there with Fozzy lol.
I've always called this stuff, "Stripper Rock." I used to DJ in a strip club late 90's early 2000's and this the stuff dancers asked for, all the damn time.
Good video! Somehow, I’ve managed to meet 3 of the singers mentioned here…Sully from Godsmack, Chris Jericho, and Ivan from Five Finger Death Punch. All three were genuinely friendly and nice dudes.
@@kingexclusivo linkin park is ABSOLITELY included in this genre
lmfao, we need more of these.
Butt Rock Beach with Hulk Hogan in the video by the latest alt rock band Yahrler.
Dude I gotta say... Breaking Benjamin still has some absolute slammers. Simple Design is an absolute unit
Chevelle kicks ass! Butt rock isn't bad at all actually, I personally love it.
@@christinalopez2487 agreed. Chevelle has been putting out bangars this whole time
I'm not saying i like buttrock, but it's the best i can do when my ps2 won't read the discs for motocross superfly or ATV offroad fury
Same for me. Sometimes I don't want to Cradle of Filth, Amon Amarth or anything like that and just want to chill.
Plus my wife likes it so get brownie points.
Butt rock is such a mean genre, these are all great bands dude! Shinedown slaps!
"You guys are nerds and I'm a Chad, so we won't see eye to eye." That's the most alpha thing I've ever heard. I'm happy to line up behind you and follow your lead, sir. Teach me your ways.
Apparently if you join his Discord he has a 10 step method to getting a Stacey...
Breaking Benjamin actually puts on an insane show. I had low expectations and bought another band's t-shirt the day I saw them. I bought the wrong shirt.
Man idc if its called butt rock or ass rock. Breaking benjamin, three days grace and shinedown are all absolutely fucking awesome bands.
Exactly great bands
It shouldn’t be called that way because they’re not different to bands like Linkin Park or Papa Roach. It’s pretty much hard rock from the 2000s. The term butt rock makes it seem like it’s bad music
@@kingexclusivo yes. That's exactly the connotation it carries.
Chevelle are more TOOL-Core than buttrock, that's why it's more boring. I personally think they're the best buttrock in terms of songs.
Anything inspired or adjacent to Tool is amazing.
I wouldn't label Chevelle as being butt rock but what do I know
100%, they were kinda buttrock-y when they first came out but it's just crazy to call them that now. They're one of those rare bands that have got better and better with every album release
@@Vinsanity09 Soen disagrees . . .
Me: hehe, butt rock bad
Finn: Places Shinedown in E tier
Me: I can't believe you've done this
I listen to death metal all day every day and it’s my favorite type of music by a long shot, but I will champion Breaking Benjamin until the day I’m toasted into ashes. They’re catchy and fun as hell to listen to. They’re the easiest rock music to put on in the car with a mix of people who don’t like my taste in metal.
💯
These tier lists are definitely my favorite content of yours. You could literally do one of these for anything (even non-music lol) and I would watch it.
Also, shout out to you for uploading stream highlights that are on the level of other folks’ actual videos
Love to see it!
Loved the puddle of mudd ‘low level pot dealer’ look. The other 3 were his top customers.
They've had to cancel tours multiple times due to him going back to jail for probation violations. 'nuff said.
@@thefivewoundsofchrist the band are legit cool guys that understand the business. However Wes, good lord, to say he has issues is a understatement.
We would literally splice an audio cable into our truck radios and listen to butt rock on patrol, you hit the nail on the head Finn!
We did the same thing. Even managed to do it in our Bradley as well. My BC and driver were black dudes so our music was always gangsta rap and Slayer lol. Blew their minds when I showed them Body Count and that Ice T played metal lol
Ben Burnley is in recovery too, so I have to give him props for that. They were great in concert.
“Suboxone energy” had me SCREAMING. How are you so accurate with these comparisons. Part 2 desperately needed
Definitely need a part 2. Disturbed, Drowning Pool, Seether, Evanescence. I think we also need a tier list of metal bands who went butt rock.
Also Creed
And Papa Roach
A Butt Rock tier list isn't complete without Seether, Saliva, and Evanescence. Some people consider Disturbed and Drowning Pool more nu-metal, but I consider them Butt Rock.
Please, please, part 2...
@@thebuckethatguy papa roach - scars is the greatest hook in any butt rock song ever written. i will fight and die on that hill
“Butt Rockin’ at the beach” would make a great bumper sticker.
Breaking Benjamin is still one of the best bands around in my opinion. Great voice, great instrumentals.
Yeah the best band to cope with depression and anxiety
They made a dope song for the Halo 2 soundtrack back when that came out, Blow Me Away.
@@psychotropictraveler514 blow me away is a goddam banger. The scream in that with the blasting drums and guitar? So damn good
I see Breaking Benjamin as more wasted talent.
I saw them live. They still sound like they did in 2009 and it was a great show! The entire crowd was singing along to almost all their songs.
Finn, you are so diplomatic…. There’s not a chance in this God given earth that the lead singer of Godsmack is a good guy.
No he really seems like he is!
I'm pretty sure he is. Go read about all the shit that happened with the kid he hit with his car... Truly brutal and heartstring tugging.
He actually is a great guy.
@@Lucasryan I looked it up and found nothing heartstring tugging. Dude hit a car and gave a girl brain damage while blaming..the design of the road? Then he settled for $3.3M. Where's the "good guy" part?
Also, he frequently airs his political views-like how Covid would magically disappear if Trump lost the election and how Bernie is evil because he supposedly wants to raise income tax to 52% on everyone making >$29K (LMAO)-while also seeing fit to say that celebrities and musicians should stop talking politics.
The dude is a douchebag. Not necessarily a bigger douchebag than the average buttrocker, but still a douchebag.
I hear he kills babies...
Idk if I'd call Chevelle Butt Rock but that have a better discography than anyone on this list
Dude Breaking Benjamin and Chevelle are some of my top bands of all time!
Yes
I must admit, I am infatuated by that song they did for Halo 2, Blow Me Away. I have already completed Halo 3, Halo ODST and Halo Reach as a gamer, especially an FPS gamer and I have completed roughly a score of FPS games minimum.
You hit me with the 1-2 punch with bedazzled and rhinestone jeans, but then you gave the fatal blow of backing into parking spots lolololololol I'm actually ded.
Literally a tier list of my 2007 deployment. Love it! Thanks Finn.
Putting Chevelle in the c tier makes me wonder if you listen to music at all.
Putting Chevelle in this list at all lets me know he has no knowledge of music
Thank you
@@josh_h812 Exactly!
Makes me wonder what’s next
I don't care what anyone says shinedown is one of my top bands and they've gotten pretty experimental on their last 3 albums, in my opinion they haven't written a single bad song
I very much agree. I was surprised to see them on this list I would not have classified them in that way at all.
I agree, Shinedown is awesome! Love Diamond Eyes, Fly From the Inside, Leave a Whisper, really most of their early stuff and some of their ladder stuff.
No matter what happens, we all know that when any of these band’s songs come on we’re all singing and partying along.
It's me Finn saying music that into sucks and saying that i sucks as a person
Chevelle was butt rock back in the day but they have proven to be solid over the years.
Chevelle is so good and they remind me of deftones
My mom's favorite bands are Godsmack and Disturbed, she loves Breaking Benjamin and Three Days Grace as well. With a black dad, If it wasn't for her and butt rock I never would've gotten into metal music.
I don't see the connection with your dad's skin color
@@Szczauqa of course you don't.

Probably because her Dad is into R an B and rap? Oh no someone is being demographic!
Whoa whoa whoaaaaa Chevelle is a fucking sick band man..
Cardinal sin to have missed Saliva in this list. Josey Scott defines the Butt Rock drip aesthetic.
Agree! BTW-He’s coming back in July with Brett Scallions from Fuel. :)
Saliva would of gotten s tier for the drip alone the music idk about that
This video is S tier. Finn, you have major comedy chops! I laughed out loud consistently, way more than the last stand-up I watched. We need a part 2.
I maintain that Chevelle is the only legit good band on this list. I’ll take the slings and arrows lol
Chevelle is not even a butt rock band I don't understand why he put them on this list
Three Days Grace?
@@kingexclusivo Their first album is pretty butt rock-y. One X and Life Starts Now are a little different. And Transit of Venus is okay. But one thing I will say is that they have a certain sound. Whether it be guitar tone or Adam's singing, they may be butt rock but they have a specific sound to them.
@@megadouche Whattt? Their first album is their heaviest. If anything Life Starts Now is the most butt rock out of them
Fact about 5FDP, they're very humble guys. I got to work their show at Bridgestone this year and all of them came up to us stagehands and shook our hands and thanked us. Very cool sign of honor from that band.
I'm listening to my Butt Rock playlist on our road trip back to Florida 😂
Florida man pregame bath salt and tail murderin music
“They’ve leveled up in this picture” lmao I love the angle of the humor you’re going for in these videos. So good

Underrated comment
Man, Thousand Foot Krutch are actually pretty bouncy! Good energy in the vocals also! Never heard of them before, but sounds fun.
They're my favorite band of all time. I bumped them a lot during middle and high school. I moved on to metal (anything from classic heavy metal to death metal to black metal) and I still love them. The song he played is called Rawkfist and it's from their album Phenomenon. Great starting point.
@@richardsinclair7661 Throw up your rock fist!!!!
I unabashedly love Godsmack. Probably because they're the first non-"classic rock"/modern-ish rock/metal band I discovered. All of the band members are super talented, too. 😃
And Breaking Benjamin is amazing, especially live.
@@acenine8149 of course, they have low T now
Finn's black metal fans in the comments are evolving
I wouldn’t consider Chevelle to be butt rock.
Butt rock actually is any band that when they sing it sounds like they are using their ass muscles instead of their diaphragm.
That's what I always thought. Hemorrhoid music
Nah that's screamo.
Godsmack is my go-to band when I'm at the gym.
It's no brain but full of energy.
Can't explain but the magic works
Breaking Benjamin number one for me. Band has always ripped.
Adam from 3DG has one of the best voices in rock. Live and in the studio. Natural roughness. 🤘🏻
The life of the party ❤️🔥🎸🍺
dude ben deserves a point for having an autobot symbol patched on his polo
Chevelle goes hard af tho their pretty unique compared to the rest
They have some decent songs. But hard af? Naah 😂
Actually they got the idea from Alice in Chains who has a song of the same name. Sully is a huge AIC fan
I admittedly have a soft spot for all these bands but for Chevelle being a radio alt/nu metal band they we’re actually really heavy at times and had some great songs.
The vocalist for Breaking Benjamin looks like he “vonts to zuck my blood”
You joke around but Modern Warfare VMVs are half the reason my bumbass joined the army.
I feel like Chevelle is not butt rock, way too creative and progressive, easily better than all the other bands on this list imho. Honestly more Tool-esque than anything. They are one of the few on this list actually still going pretty strong too.
EXACTLY!!!! 🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁
The thinking man’s butt-rock, if you will…
All of these have an argument for being buttrock (and I love most of them), except for Chevelle. I've never once thought they sound the way they do to be cool, edgy or tough. I wouldn't call them super commercial either, as being palatable isn't the same as being commercial. They've got a killer tone and they can write a good riff. The main riff of Humanoid is one of my favorites ever.

TFK was my favorite band in high school and I still rock that Phenomenon album from time to time haha
Good video! Somehow, I’ve managed to meet 3 of the singers mentioned here…Sully from Godsmack, Chris Jericho, and Ivan from Five Finger Death Punch. All three were genuinely friendly and nice dudes. Sully threw up a peace sign in the pic we took, Chris was dressed as Danny Zuko from Grease, and Ivan gave me props on my Creepshow t-shirt. 😅
