I've only recently started learning to paint with oils. But I've been watching a ton of short acrylic speed paint videos. I always kept thinking to myself that I wouldn't want to paint with acrylics because it looked like the blending process was a pain. This video makes me want to give acrylics a try even more. Because I get frustrated when painting with oils how sometimes I just want to easily paint over a surface but have difficulty getting crisp or fine lines working on top of wet paint. Thanks for the video!

I have friends who are artists who have encouraged me to just have fun.
So I began taking acrylic art classes a couple of years ago.
My first teacher was acryllic impressionism... and it set me free from the idea that painting had to be perfect!

I enjoyed this. Good tips. Thank you. The sponge blending is my favorite. You can get a neat effect for a background by putting a three or four different colors just on the edges of a slightly damp sponge and then swirling. It works best if the colors are not touching each other for the first use. After that it doesn't matter that much. I've done a couple backgrounds that way.

Adding so much water to heavy body paint,
can really, effect the final result!
Adding too much water often makes artist/premium grade paint
look more like craft or student grade paint in the end.
It can look like a paint with varying or uneven pigment load,
or one with a higher amount of filler.
And that’s a shame, after paying top dollar.
    Wouldn’t it be better,
to use a soft body acrylic-
if you want the paint to be thinner
(move more easily over the canvas or painting surface)?
I’m thinking heavy body acrylic paint-
is more fitting for impasto work, or where/when
you need the paint to hold shape, be stiffer.
You actually want that lower viscosity.
I’m thinking that if you have to add water, **to get it to move the way you want**,
    it’s the wrong paint.
However, if the paint is **drying too fast**, then using a tiny amount of water (or medium) can help.
So adding water regularly to thin =
    wrong paint.
(Adding water regularly to cream or
half and half = wrong dairy. It just means what you actually want is whole, 2%, 1%, etc.)
The stiffer heavy body paint definitely has it’s occasions,
but it seems like for a lot of general paintings/usage,
soft body or more fluid forms might work better for many common paintings,
because usually nothing is added to change the consistency (unless for purposefulful effect such as a glaze, etc.),
thus the paint is being used, as designed.
Choosing the best fitting paint in this respect,
could also broaden the choices of brushes to use.
    Wiith heavy body paint,
brush choices are (best) limited to
    firm, or extra firm.
If you don’t use the firm/firmest brushes w/hb,
then you have to use ..even more water,
    making it worse again.
Soft/er brushes can create subtlety different effects,
    and allow different degrees of control of the paint;
    a different painting experience.
The (most likely) limitation with brushes-that more than half of all brushes
are best not used w/hb paint
seems a shame for those who use it mostly or only.
    Maybe especially for beginning artists,
    but any artists really.
    It’s a limitation that’s probably unnecessary,
in that it doesn’t apply to the other paints.
    Would it sometimes,
    or even often/generally
(depending on the artist and project)
be better to choose a soft body acrylic,
or even a fluid acrylic in the first place?
