I am an older woman. A while ago, I realized that I could get a big project (like this) done, if I broke it down to smaller steps. I do smaller sections or parts, one or a few at a time, and in a few days of a few hours each, I can complete projects alone. We need to be sensible in our individual performance limits. If it takes 6 days, instead of 1 or 2, who cares! It is getting the project done PROPERLY, not fast, that is important. Who cares when other people come buy and say "Are you STILL doing that"?. Just say " Yeah, I am doing it right, MY way". In a big project, every work session is an achievement to be proud of. Small bites, also, get a big job done. You don't have to kill yourself, trying to preform to other people's criteria. Go at your own pace with the directions of the project in mind. Don't hurt yourself, or waste product by hurrying.. Be the Turtle, not the Hare. Slow and steady.
This is great advice and I totally agree. This project took me a few days because I have other things to do in life including resting. Thanks for watching and commenting
@@thetraveltrailerguy Thank You for a wonderful program. I plan to Tropicool my roof once it gets cooler, and past the rainy season. Your program showed what I WANT to do to make it a job well done. No one else on the net has gone in to such detail. I am hoping that if I REALLY get this project done in the right sequence or proper reinforcement, the roof recoating will be leak free and cool for several years (not needing a redo every year or two). Sometimes you have to spend some $$ and extra time to do it right. Your easily understandable tips will help me immensely. Thank You, again.

@@thetraveltrailerguy My all aluminum gooseneck horse trailer with living quarters used an Eternabond like tape when built. It’s finally failing after 9 years. Some of it has become really brittle and coming up on one side. As soon as it’s warm enough next week I’m gonna do exactly what you did… exactly the way you did it. I put down dicor a few days ago just to get the leaking to stop in the areas that had totally failed. I hope mine turns out as clean and nice as yours. I DO have a screen tool! Again, great job. @@ReactorFour Thank you, the key to it all is the prep work making sure the surface is totally clean before applying and then rolling the tape real good to make sure it adheres and all air pockets are gone. Tank your time and all will go well.
Thank you, I agree all factory's should be doing this but I bet they never will because it would slow down their production and applying the liquid sealant is much faster than applying the tape. I do know if we ever buy another RV I will be installing the tape right when I get it home while everything is new and clean

"Eternabond doesn't stick to silicone." Best piece of info in this video. None of the other videos I've watched mention this. So I was planning to use eternabond with tropicool which is 100% silicone. Good thing I watched this first.
@@thetraveltrailerguy I did the perimeter seems of the roof membrane with eternabond tape. All the other seams around the roof accessories and skylight were recaulked with tropicool in caulking tube form. Then the tropicool roof sealer was applied with a roller over the rest of the roof membrane. So far we are very pleased with the results.

Excellent job, Michael, and a very informative how to video. I used 6 inch Eternabond tape on the front and rear and around the vents, skylights and fan. Next I will be using 4 inch Eternabond along the sides using the roller and screen tool to properly seal it to the roofing membrane, metal edging, and vinyl gasket. I also rounded the edges.

I painted our propane tank cover as well, BUT I painted ours white because as our RV is stored parked nose towards the sunset down here in middle GA, the sun was (in my opinion) overheating the propane tanks under that black, heat absorbing tank cover, and it's not even the peak of summer but the propane tanks were at 125°F which puts the internal pressures of the propane at over 225 PSI, which I am not comfortable with. Excellent job with the EternaBond project.

NOTE: Scroll Down To see the links to the materials I used for this project I finally did a project on our 4 year old travel trailer that I've been wanting to do for several years and am very happy with how this project turned out. I installed Eterna Bond Tape over all sealant caulked areas on the roof to help prevent future water leaks. The Dicor I use for patching and the sealant compound that the factory uses on the roof seams breaks down with time and with this leaks can develop and I found myself always inspecting our roof and applying Dicor to troubled areas. Installing this tape "Should" eliminate any future leaks from developing in the areas where I applied the tape. "Warning this video is long and is very detailed with tips to show you how I sealed each area on the roof so feel free to skip through it if you like but doing so you might miss out on some useful information" How long does EternaBond® last? Because EternaBond® is made using MicroSealant Technology®, depending on surrounding conditions, EternaBond® has an estimated life expectancy of 18-35 years if applied correctly. The "pre-activated" shelf life of EternaBond®, stored correctly, is 5 years! www.eternabond.com/articles.a... Hello Brenda thank you so much for your compliments you just made my day. I'm very happy with how it all turned out and most of all my worries of having water leaks through the roof area are gone :)
Excellent work. I have seen a couple of videos using eternal bond tape to seal the roof. Your video completely sold me doing the roof on my trailer. I especially like the little roller wheel to get in the tight areas. Absolutely a great job !!
Great video! We just purchased a 2010 5th wheel, and the first thing I will do is inspect and reseal everything that looks like it could possibly be a future leak. Just one tip on using the Eternabond tape......you should always start at the back of the roof, and work your way towards the front. The reason being, the tape overlaps will always be facing the rear, so that when you're pulling your camper down the road in the rain, the water will run off one piece of tape onto the top of the other, moving towards the back of the camper. Your overlaps should always direct the water onto the TOP of the next piece. And......thanks for the roller tip!!! That was genius!!!! Happy camping!
This is the best video I've seen where it's being installed very nicely done. A few years back I used cool seal on my cargo trailer and it started leaking at the back end. I pressured washed the it whole roof, used acetone to remove the cool seal sealant and then whipped it down with denatured alcohol, then waited for it to dry before installing the Eterna Bond Tape. Great stuff for sure... Great tips and thank you for posting...

@@thetraveltrailerguy Today I cleaned the roof with "Totally Awesome" cleaner that I purchased at the dollar store. This cleaner is truly totally awesome. The roof looks almost brand new. It cleaned the black stains completely from the sealer and the TPO is also almost free from the black stains. I can't recommend this cleaner enough. Give it a try if you haven't already and if you get the same results maybe mention it to your views in some future video.
Thank you so much for watching and feedback. You are so right on rounding all the corners. I thought about this right after finishing the project :) Good catch. www.youtube.com/@thetraveltrailerguy/videos
Thank you, I'm sure happy I did this project. Now I don't have to worry about roof water leaks. So far its all holding up like the day I installed it. www.youtube.com/@thetraveltrailerguy/videos
Excellent video I learned a few things. I also painted my refrigerator vent cover but I did it in white Then instead of using silicone in the holes I put rubber stoppers in to be able to remove them easily
Thanks for watching and sharing what you did. I like that you painted the vent white, it helps hide it on the roof and by being white it doesn't not get as hot, And installing rubber stoppers in the holes instead of silicone is a lot better than what I did. Awesome, thanks for sharing. I like it! www.youtube.com/@thetraveltrailerguy/videos
Thanks David, I am so happy with how this project turned out and how its holding up. It still looks like the day I installed it. I hope to do a follow up video on how its holding up in the near future so keep an eye out for it. ua-cam.com/users/MichaelBracewellTheTravelTrailerGuyvideos

Very detailed and thorough…well done. My RV dealer recommended eternabond, he stored it in the service dept. refrigerator to “extend” to preserve. It is expensive. I just applied to the front and rear end caps.
Thank you so much for watching and your kind comments. I really like how this project turned out and is holding up. No more worries :) ua-cam.com/users/MichaelBracewellTheTravelTrailerGuyvideos
We just did ours the last two days, looks good, but.... Sure wish I would have seen your video first. yours is so professional. looks great!! Great video!
That's great Pam, you won't regret doing this to your RV. No more roof water leak worries. Thank you for watching and your kind comments. If you have this type of side lights you might want to take a look and seal behind them before wall damage occurs, they are good leak points. This has to be the best video on this procedure, I wish i would of seen it before I did mine.......lots of good tips..especially the screen tool. I did my edges the same as yours went over the screw cover. I used black eternabond which matched better then the white..
@@TC-tw5zk I decided to do it all but before taping everything I replaced my clear skylight with a white one and I'm so happy I did, it lets in a lot of light but less heat than the clear one we had. Also the clear one I had was letting in so much UV light that I'm pretty sure it was starting to break down the the plastic shower surround siding
Sorry your left handed. 😂 You have a fantastic wife to get up there and help you. ❤.I can't even get mine in the camper. You did a fantastic job and a great explanation of why you did what you did, how you did it and what it will prevent. And the tools you used of which I have already. I've watched a lot of videos and most will jump from I'm going to put this on and then it's done. Guessing at why or how they did it. I'm working on my roof now and because of the heat, 92°, I had to stop and was surfing and came across this. Glad I did. A compass will make those circles without trying to find something the right circumference. Also nothing will stick to silicone so be careful spraying it or sealing with it. It won't even stick to itself Cool coffee cup by the way.
Thanks for watching and all the compliments :) Yep this video is long, I just wanted to show everything I did to help others. I know what you mean when you say a lot of people make videos and just show the beginning and the end result, drives me nuts since it want to see it all. This is an excellent tutorial, I just purchased a 6 year old motorhome and the previous owner had done a similar job on the roof. I was skeptical as to weather there had been any leakage but he told me he did it as a precautionary exercise. I saw zero evidence of any leaks inside. I wish we could have some feedback on the effective life time of a job like this.
Congratulations on your purchase and thanks for watching Todd, is this you first RV? I hope to so a follow up video in a year or two about how the Eterna Bond Tape is holding up but I feel confident it will be fine. Here's what Eterna Bond says how long it will last (this is written along with the stuff I used in the description below my UA-cam video - How long does EternaBond® last? Because EternaBond® is made using MicroSealant Technology®, depending on surrounding conditions, EternaBond® has an estimated life expectancy of 18-35 years if applied correctly. The "pre-activated" shelf life of EternaBond®, stored correctly, is 5 years! www.eternabond.com/articles.a...

Thanks for the feedback, I appreciate it. Yep that roller worked awesome for the tight areas. You might want to use a string and use a pencil to make marks every 3 inches or so along it instead of a chalk line, the chalk may get all over the place and may stop the tape adhesive from sticking to the roof. Just something to think about. Have fun, you will be happy you did this to your roof. Thank you and you are welcome, I'm happy to help. I wish I did this project right after getting our trailer when it was brand new, there would be less cleaning required to install the tape :) You must live in California like us and see little rain :( We have traveled in heavy rain at times and once we woke up to snow at the grand canyon so knowing we are well protected now gives me piece of mind. Absolutely the best video I've seen showing how to best apply Eternabond, thank you!!! My only question is I always thought you couldn't combine different sealant products with one another. Dicor with Eternabond or vice versa. Did you verify with Eternabond that it was perfectly OK to use Eternabond directly over old Dicor? You are a consumate professional Sir!
Thank you so much for watching, comment, and compliment Stephen. Eterna Bond tape will stick to Dicor as long as it is cleaned very well along with the roof area where it is applied. If you apply any Dicor prior to installing the tape make sure you allow the Dicor to fully cure for a minimum of 30 days. Eterna Bond will not stick to Silicone so if you have it then remove it and clean the area very well prior to installing the tape. Make sure you roll the tape like I did in the video to make sure you get a good bond. Good choice sealing your roof with bulletproof eternabond. Their primer is a great product. It makes the surface tacky but their cleaner is a waste of money. Blue dawn does just as good of a job.

What a great job I've been watching a lot of videos on this tape. You did an awesome job on this project ! My skylight has been leaking firva while. I've patched it many times with flex seal tape & spray but it doesn't last. Im gonna be using Eterna Bond to fix it this time. Thanks for a great video!!👍👏
Thank you for watching and appreciating my video. I'm really happy how well it turned out. It was a long video but I felt it was important to share as much as I could so others would feel comfortable taking the project on themselves instead of hiring someone to do it for them. Yep Flex Seal tape and spray is not as good as Eterna Bond Tape, its made to stick and stay in place. Thanks again.
You're welcome Andrew, congratulations on buy a trailer soon. If you don't want to worry about water leaks in the future causing damage to your investment this is the way to go. Thorough job Michael - I'm on mini lite site on FB your on - ole roofer/carpenter many years so did many roofs plus commercial rubber roofs. We only used Sika brand - way more UV protectant over time vs Dicor. Going to recaulk my roof probably later this summer but be using Sika 715 self leveling. Love your videos - so helpful - thanks
Your welcome Harry, thanks so much for watching, comment, and advice :) I've heard about the Sika brand but have never used it. From what I have heard form others its a lot better than Dicor. When you rechalk your roof will you be removing all the other sealant first? Is this what you use? amzn.to/3qDcdAK What FB group are you in?
Using bowls and round cups was a great idea to get those shaped out. Having a slab of wood to trim on is another great tip. I'd like to do this and then coat the rest of the roof with something, I have a TPO roof, so Im not sure yet what to coat it with.
Thank you :) sometimes you need to use what is around you to create shapes and for a tool. I'm not sure about coatings but looking at Amazon I see several kinds that are available to use. amzn.to/3GMg4PS ua-cam.com/users/MichaelBracewellTheTravelTrailerGuyvideos
Rubber roof coating. DO NOT USE FLEX SEAL even if your friends, buddies or other campers say you can. In the future nothing else will stick to it and it breaks down to quick
You did a fantastic job on that roof. Im in the process of doing mine now and learned a few tricks. After taping with the Eternabond I will use a product call Tropi-cool to coat the TPO in between the tape. Would go over everything but from what I've been reading the coating will not adhere to the tape.

@@fonzierosea Great question I know I have answered this question before somewhere. I should have covered this in the video. I will when I make a follow up video in the near future on how its all holding up (it still looks like the day I installed it).
@@thetraveltrailerguy do you think if we laid a thin layer of silicon on top of the eterna bond, that it would provide an extra layer of protection from the eterna bond pulling up and curling?
@@fonzierosea If you do a very good job preparing the surface prior to putting the Eterna Bond Tape and rolling it as you go with rollers you should not have any problem of the tape lifting up. I've seen videos of some people applying a thin layer of Dicor self-leveling sealant amzn.to/2PUIFfs along the edges but I personally don't feel its necessary. One of the reasons I installed the tape was so I wouldn't have to mess around with patching the failing Dicor up on a regular basis. Here's a video I found were someone applied Dicor along the edges. ua-cam.com/video/spdYGUtZVcU/v-deo.html Never use silicone on the roof or to patch existing sealant on the roof. At first I was sceptical of the video length since I've seen some that are poorly edited. However the slow and casual pace is really helpful and detailed but doesn't seem like an overload of information. I'm excited to use this on my new skylight and perhaps the rest of the edges this summer or next. Also thank you for the product list, I'm in Canada so I won't be able to buy from the links but at least I'll have the names.
Thanks Sam.

Amazing video. What a superb job. I've watched many videos and yours is definitely the best good job
Thank you so much Kaylene you made my day. The tape is still looking like the day I installed it.
Thank you so much and thank you for watching :) So with the 6 & 4 inch tape you should never see any water ever getting into your RV through your roof :) I like it and I know you will also :)

Quality work, quality video. Great application of the seal tape using the backing to advantage. That helps reduce air bubble a LOT.
That wooden handled roller with the steel wheels is called "Spline Roller for Window and Door Bug Screen", sometimes its hard to find on websites because most searches with "roller" only return paint supplies. Stay gold.

Great video...the best I have seen on how to do this RIGHT! No shortcuts were taken...simply excellent!
Thank you for the nice compliments George and for watching :) ua-cam.com/users/MichaelBracewellTheTravelTrailerGuyvideos
Wow your tanks were getting hot with the black cover, how are they doing with the white cover now that you have painted them? Thank you so much for commenting and watching the video, I hope it was helpful to you. It's still holding up great like the day I installed it, I'm so happy I did this project because it gives me piece of mind knowing my roof is sealed up.
@@thetraveltrailerguy The white cover keeps the tanks substantially cooler, barely any warmer than the white cover itself. Much better & more peace of mind!

one of the finer procedures ive seen online. just purchased a brand new trailer off the lot. i will follow this procedure to the T. thanks for the great video
Thank you so much for watching and the compliment Antonio. Sorry this video was long, and I hope it wasn't to boring. I wanted to show this project from start to finish so it would help lots of people out. the tape looks like I just installed it (I installed it just over a year ago) the key to doing this is to make sure the surfaces are clean and you take your time applying it. I hope to come out with a follow up video in the near future to show how its held up. You are smart installing this tape right after buying the trailer, it saves on cleaning prep work time. I finally did a project on our 4 year old travel trailer that I've been wanting to do for several years and am very happy with how this project turned out.
"Warning this video is long and is very detailed with tips to show you how I sealed each area on the roof so feel free to skip through it if you like but doing so you might miss out on some useful information"
How long does EternaBond® last?
Because EternaBond® is made using MicroSealant Technology®, depending on surrounding conditions, EternaBond® has an estimated life expectancy of 18-35 years if applied correctly. The "pre-activated" shelf life of EternaBond®, stored correctly, is 5 years!

Thank you for sharing this. You are a very patient man and it shows in your work. Your attention to detail and patience makes all the difference to the outcome of the job. The roof will be watertight for many years and you can spend more time fishing!! I'm gonna follow your lead! Thanks again ❤️
Thanks Randy and thank you for watching :) That's a great tip you shared
I was checking out his over laps also and noticed that he was doing good until near the end of the video and then he lapped front then back.
Thank you so much I appreciate the feedback. I really like how this project turned out and how its holding up :) No more worrying about possible leaks. ua-cam.com/users/MichaelBracewellTheTravelTrailerGuyvideos

@@thetraveltrailerguy Today I cleaned the roof with "Totally Awesome" cleaner that I purchased at the dollar store. This cleaner is truly totally awesome. The roof looks almost brand new. Give it a try if you haven't already and if you get the same results maybe mention it to your views in some future video.

Excellent video I learned a few things. I also painted my refrigerator vent cover but I did it in white Then instead of using silicone in the holes I put rubber stoppers in to be able to remove them easily
Thanks for watching and sharing what you did.
Here's what Eterna Bond says how long it will last (this is written along with the stuff I used in the description below my UA-cam video -
How long does EternaBond® last?
Because EternaBond® is made using MicroSealant Technology®, depending on surrounding conditions, EternaBond® has an estimated life expectancy of 18-35 years if applied correctly. The "pre-activated" shelf life of EternaBond®, stored correctly, is 5 years!

I've read that before you put it down be sure it's where you want it because it's almost impossible to remove and last longer than most marriages.😂

Great tips on the window screen roller and level as a straight edge. I don't have one but I'm hoping a chalk line will suffice. Thanks!
I'm not sure if you saw my list of supplies I used in the project so I listed them below with links.

You are a good trainer 😉
You are very welcome, I'm happy it helped you. www.youtube.com/@thetraveltrailerguy/videos
Thanks for the Video! I just bought an RV with my wife. I'm going to re-seal everything. It doesn't rain here but it will on the road!
One more thing, congratulations on buying a new camper. Its one of the best things my wife and I did in our lives, we use it all the time and see so many things while using it.
Thank you for making this video. It was informative and helped me understand the tools and materials needed. Excellent job!!

Dang good video, well thought out and explained! One of the best I’ve seen on this subject. Very helpful.
Thank you so much Kevin, you made my day. I sure appreciate you watching and taking the time to comment. - www.youtube.com/@thetraveltrailerguy/videos

Thank you so much for commenting, watching, and you good tips. I'm really happy how this turned out.
Wow I thought I was the only perfectionist, good job. I would do Henry’s white tropicool roof coating and it’s done ✅ for along time.
Thanks Jose, I believe in taking my time and doing projects right the first time like you :) The roof is still in good shape (Like New because I take care of it ua-cam.com/video/KyZa4wiavto/v-deo.html ) When the trailer roof gets older and I see it needs help I'll be doing just what you mentioned in protecting it :) Thanks so much for watching a commenting
Thank you for this very helpful video. We happen to own a Micro-Lite as well and I will try to do the same with Eternabound tape as I am tired of dealing with Dicor. Again, great video!!

Your welcome and thanks for watching :) LOL on the Cyber Truck
This is an excellent video with great tips and DIY information. Would you consider a follow-up video detailing how the Eternabond has held up?
Hello Leslie, We are very happy with this tape. I hope to do a follow up video when time allows in the near future so keep an eye out for it (I hope to come out with it on a Friday within the next 3 weeks). It still looks like the day I installed it.
Outstanding video. I’m about to try the same with my toy hauler. Spline roller looks like a winner.
Thank you, its one of the best improvements I've made to the RV and I would do it again if I bought another one someday. The spline roller is the ticket :)

It’s good to see a video done on travel trailers with the squarer roof ledges , I’ve got one .
Yep :) Thanks for watching & commenting. Happy Camping
Thank you for the video. I will be buying a used trailer soon. This is good info.
You're welcome Andrew, congratulations on buy a trailer soon. If you don't want to worry about water leaks in the future causing damage to your investment this is the way to go. Just make sure you do a good job in preparing the roof to accept the tape before applying and you will be fine. I appreciate you watching and your comments.

Henry 887 Tropi-Cool White Roof Coating
You did a fantastic job on that roof. Im in the process of doing mine now and learned
a few tricks. After taping with the Eternabond I will use a product call Tropi-cool to
coat the TPO in between the tape. Would go over everything but from what I've been
reading the coating will not adhere to the tape.
Thank you for watching and taking the time to comment and share what you are doing. You're going to be really happy you taped the roof like so many others have done. I've also heard that Tropi-Cool will not stick to the tape so your plan should work.

@@thetraveltrailerguy How is the Eterna bond holding up today?
Here's a video I found were someone applied Dicor along the edges. ua-cam.com/video/spdYGUtZVcU/v-deo.html
Never use silicone on the roof or to patch existing sealant on the roof. It will not stick and will come right off.
Use this or its equal - Dicor Self Leveling Sealant (Roof)

Excellent video.
I will be doing this to my 5th wheel in the spring. I taped my slides last fall before putting slide toppers on them.
Thanks for commenting. I think this is one project everyone should do to protect their trailer from water damage
Nice detail, thanks!
Thank you Vince, I appreciate the feed back. Here's my 2 year review video on how its all holding up - ua-cam.com/video/s7mjuCgLZkE/v-deo.htmlsi=thEf_bo9FJLjnUVE
I thank you for taking your time and doing this for us , it has helped me a lot.
You're welcome Vanessa, you made my day, I appreciate the feedback. I'm so happy it helped you out. It has been around 2+ years since I did this project and it still looks like I did it yesterday :) Keep an eye out for my follow up video on how its holding up in the near future :) Happy Camping www.youtube.com/@thetraveltrailerguy/videos
Thanks Sam. Yeah I know the video is long but I wanted to show in detail what I did in hopes people would feel comfortable taking on this project on their own rather than paying a lot of money and hiring someone. This tape is awesome and still looks like the day I installed it. Have fun and you won't regret installing this tape. Thanks so much for commenting and watching. ua-cam.com/users/MichaelBracewellTheTravelTrailerGuyvideos
Fantastic vid. THANKYOU!
Thank you Rona, sorry its so long but I wanted to show every detail so I would be more helpful than a short video. :) I hope you subscribe to my channel if you have not done so already - www.youtube.com/@thetraveltrailerguy/videos
