Super late to this video! I'm about to start a computer science degree and there will be maths. Thing is I'm 32 and it's been AGES since I've done maths. I'm nervous because the gap will be even greater, but I'm excited! I always enjoyed maths growing up, so I hope I can also find some enjoyment in it. Anyway, THANK YOU for the pdf. I am greek so the first tip is already ok with me lol! I am having the final exams that will depend if I will pass to the University I want or not. My dream is to study maths so hopefully everything goes as planned
My degree in mathematics is from UT Austin, but I learned a lot more on my own from physics books after I finished. You work with a heck of a lot of proofs in math classes. I would have sank if my instructors didn't give me partial credit. But now that I do math just for myself, I can ignore conventional notation rules and write the notation however I want. I call my stuff derivations instead of proofs because I'm not always sure they're correct. My style is much less rigid and much more prone to error than most styles, but I'm in accounting by trade, so who cares. You want it done a certain way, pay me for it. Otherwise I'll do it the way I want. I mentioned a country singer in the last derivation I put on youtube.
I am in my third year at math degree. But now, after finish this bachelor, I think I will take other route. But seriously, not because I hate math, but I don't know what I can do to help people with that. Hehehe, but I still wanna meet with that euphoria of math, but maybe beside my other route. See this video made miss my year at uni struggle with math. Math really interesting actually. Its give you butterfly whenever you can solve problem.
A few years ago I was fucked up, and so had to find a distraction. Called my local college and asked them how much it would cost me to do a GCSE Maths Course expecting it to be about £400 :00. They told me it would cost me nowt, if I didn`t have a GCSE in Maths. `Next day I went to the college and signed up for the job, not knowing whether I`d be any good at maths. 8 months later I sat the exam and a month after that I was given an A*. It was simple stuff. Then I read a couple of textbooks Years 1 ( AS ) and 2 ( A ) Level Maths. It was a challenge, but it was still recognisably Maths. After that I decided to go and find some First Year Undergraduate Maths Textbooks. Its fucking rediculous.
Hi beth, cheers for the pdf will come handy at some point. Im starting Bsc Maths course, but have seen i have stats modules. I dont really like stats, how much of it will i be doing? (I never signed on for a maths AND stats course, just a 3 year Bsc maths)
Hi, not Beth here but I'm in my second year of studying maths at Newcastle. Each university differs and sometimes you can switch modules. But I'm pretty sure the majority of maths degrees will contain stats modules. Just a Maths and Stats degree will have more stats modules, hope this helps!
I’m currently in year 13 studying maths, biology chemistry and further maths. I’m loving studying both maths and chemistry and for the life of me can’t decide which to chose for uni. How should I know which one is right for me because looking at the courses online they both really seem to interest me. Even when I looked around the unis I still couldn’t decide which I’d rather do as I just love both subjects? X
Lol its a bit late but if you are still wondering i would advise purely going off your gut instinct. As they are both highly rated degrees it really is down to what you'd rather do and the way i judge it is by asking yourself in 10 years time would you rather say 'im a chemist' or 'im a mathematician'
