Guys I'm not sure but I think he's trying to say that computer science is a good degree.
You get the idea 😁
Nahhhh it can’t be
wow, really? i would have never guessed that from Shane!
@@Kevessi How does your phone can possibly perform without programming language?
Why people likes so much to buy the latest phone nowadays?
Why people are talking about so much of artificial intelligence?
How do you think a calculator performs?....
Edit: this are only the very few things that computer science as to offer!!!!!!!
I am happy to have help you 😘✌🏾
Efe Oni i was joking you know that right😐. Im cs major so ik how valuable it is.
Software engineers: *makes the UA-cam algorithm*
Shane: *promotes engineering*
Software engineers: Lol no

thats called job security
It’s sad that anything education related is going to be ranked low.
I am surprised by it and is sad for the teachers have to put up with not only rowdy students but also rowdy parents
You know. Buy a prep school and teach in asia making millions of dollars.
Sad truth. I wish teachers are compensated higher
As education is migrating online, there will be less and less teachers
@@firstname8468 yep. Or those that are change entirely to teaching online classes. But if Ai is included. What you say rapidly speeds up. And happens. Having seen humen trajectory
Its going to happen sooner then later.
New video everyday for 30 days.. and ur still breathing! RESPECT!
Thanks mah man!
Amazing , I really like how you connected the business and the maths degrees. Thank you for your time and research you provide. THE most valuable channel
I appreciate that!
For anyone thinking of becoming a math teacher, the only way you’ll make good income is if u get ur masters and live in CA/NY If u live in any other state switch majors :)👍
One of the best channels in the finance and college degrees topic that is why you have my "thumbs up"
Thanks Paulo!
When the title said math degree, i legit thought thought you were gonna rank the different TYPES of math degrees. Lmaoooo
😂
Yay! Finally there is a video by Shane on math majors!
I have been waiting for this one, and now, I get to enjoy this one all day! Unfortunately, I might have to go get a Master's degree in Math and Physics or something along those lines because I am trying to become a post-secondary teacher or researcher, but from what it seems like that might not be the best thing to do. I admit that I am worried about graduate student loans.
Hope you enjoyed it! Good luck with your plans Jessica. I wish you all the best 😁
Awesome video! Math degrees are one of the best degrees for higher starting salaries out of college. 😊 The skillset is just so versatile and employers really value that. It shows you can think logically.
Couldn't agree more Alex.. Thanks for leaving a nice sensible comment.. Subbed your channel😁
@@ShaneHummus Thank you so much!
Pair it with computer science
I switched from physics to math, I just love math so much more than physics
I am the other way around. Math for me was "yeah its neat and all but so what" but physics actually had reasons for it. it can explain fundamental understanding of our place in the universe/ reality. not saying I am going to be the next einstein to discover these new ideas however, learning about them and trying to apply it in real life is just fascinating to me. math was always kind of a tool for me rather than interest. yea i can own many tools but its more useful when you use the tools instead.
@@kr-sd3ni Yep...
When I was in school 30 years ago, there were so many engineering graduates that you would have to send out 1,000 resumes to get two interviews. You would have to graduate from a top university to get one job offer. When everyone tries to do the same thing, the outcome is never positive.
Thanks for sharing
Hi shane i was wondering if sometime maybe you can make a tier list for masters
+1 Have been wanting this one for a while :)
Maybe in the future Joseph.. Which one specifically do you want me to cover btw?
@@ShaneHummus would really like some business masters.. msc in finance for example and other business areas!

I really like seeing Physics as one of the top major for both Math and Science tier list. I do agree 100 percent that Physics involves alot of mathematics and also computational skills. Great video! :)
Thanks for your input Brian
Same! Kinda wished that I minored in math or CS at least. I minored in biology and am not using it at all at the moment lol
Thanks for covering Math Shane! Awesome video.. Keep it up!
Glad you liked it!
Physics major and mathematics minor here. Physics is very difficult but worth studying. Thanks for the video Shane💪🏿
Thanks for watching Emmanuel
I am currently a freshman hoping of majoring in Physics with a minor in Math. Should I switch my Major and minor?

No that’s not how it works😂😂. This is why most people dropout of cs
Its not that easy and most people don’t know what to expect in cs

I appreciate it!
I really wanna see more Computer science/Economics videos because I'm thinking about studying them both and would like to know the types of things and jobs I can do by pairing those two together in college.
That’s a killer combination... good luck
!
That combination would lean towards Data Science/Business Analytics. I would gladly explain how & why if u want.
John Wig if u can further explain that would be great but u don’t have to. Also do u think I would need a masters?
Good luck
Love these videos Shane! You've done great with this challenge. Quality content for sure, keep it up :)
Thanks a lot David
I’d love to see some more Computer Science related videos!
Haha I'd love to make one too but I already mentioned it a thousand times on this channel 😂
@@ShaneHummus I would actually love one

Awesome vids man. Would love to see a vid about getting higher degrees in Engineering like Masters or PhD and where that would lead. Also instead of an Engineering Masters would it be better to get one in say Business? (Such as the MBA)
Thanks. Stay tuned
Thank you for this, I’m getting an associates in math but for bachelors I’ll choose a different one.
Good luck Jennifer!!
I finished my math undergrad 2 years ago and am now doing a master's in financial engineering. With the way things are going, I don't think simple finance and economics degrees will cut it in the future for a job at hedge funds or investment banks specifically because quants are becoming more and more popular for even the trading positions. And many if not all hedge funds REQUIRE a MS or PhD.
Good point
what major were u ?
You can do a series about double majors or major+minor combinations that support each other. For example, if I want to add a second major after English, what should it be? (let's not say that it depends on my passion. I only go for what is useful and worth it). What other major should I go with Computer Science? Take your times Shane.
Maybe in the future
I am not really good at Math but I smashed the like button anyway
haha thanks
actuarial science A and maths B, not sure this guy actually knows that mathematicians are always preferred over actuarials
What do you mean? Preferred how?
@@Superpaul205 If you know math it won't take you long to learn the specifics needed for actuarial science, while you also have a broader knowledge set knowing more mathematics.
I am shocked at how low you put data science. It's literally the cross over between statistics and computer science. You definatly do not need a masters to get a job. I'm majoring in statistics with a double contration in data analytics and data science and the job outlook is fantastic especially with both skill sets.
It's still good though
Funny thing is that whenever I watch videos on helping me with java, there are advertisements on courses that guarantee I'll get a job in data science if I take their online course.
Plan it out well.. Good luck
Da same.
Shane could you make a tier list for the social sciences (econ, poli sci, etc.)

Hey Shane I’ve been watching your videos since the beginning and I’m a huge fan. However, your recent videos aren’t very entertaining (the recent 2 before this video) you can see through your likes itself. Please make more videos on majors cuz that’s what people want as per the stats and don’t get me wrong I’m just trying to give you my suggestion. Also I requested for an astrophysics major PLS PLS make a video soon. Lots of love all the best
Noted your feedback
You mentioned for the math degree that you recommend doing either a double major or minor. Do you think it’s wise to double with physics if you have a passion and interest for both? Or would doubling with physics be too much ?
That sounds solid. Plan it out. Good luck
Please Shane ,I’m supposed to transfer in the spring can you do a video about how to go to a out-state college and paying in state.Thank you

To those looking for a good first programming language to learn, I recommend python. I’m finishing up my math degree right now and my college makes us take an intro python course in our freshman year. It’s very useful and is easier to learn from my experience than Java or C (for a first language), so if you’re looking to teach yourself programming, python is a good place to begin (again, this is purely my opinion based on my own experience and my colleagues’ experiences in engineering and MIS)
hey I want to study computer science but I also want to learn the business and the mathematics side. Do I double major or do I major in applied mathematics and minor in computer science. Can someone please help?!
Is BS in Math: Applied Computation and a minor in Computer Science worth it, in terms of employment after graduation?
Might as well do double major, only 1 more year no?
I feel like as long as you take extra classes its fine, it doesnt really matter whether you double major or minor.@@ram42
I’ve not seen many committed youtubers like Shane top stuff also Im thinking if the jobs an economics major would take will involve some sort of coding, machine learning or data science? If so would it be beneficial to learn

Hey Shane I love Economics and Math and would love to major in economics and minor in maths to show my proficiency cos nowadays a bachelors in economics isn’t too math heavy. Thoughts?
That could work out. Just stay committed and plan ahead. Good luck
Got my bachelor's degree in Math. Planning on going back to the community college I went to to get my computer science associates. Only need 4 classes to get it. Computer programming 1, Computer programming 2, Data Structures and Discrete Math 2.

Finance degree comes in different forms and shape depending on which subjects you choose. BBA(finance) is exactly matching with what you have just said but a BSc Finance or BSc Quantitative Finance can be a degree that is either maths, statistics or computer programming heavy.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
Why is it a problem when a masters degree is „required“ ? Is this an America-exclusive Problem? In Germany for example, university is free and bachelors only take 3 years (for the most part). Would you say your point still applies?
Thanks for watching Vetrix.. The video is for the American audience actually.
In the US, universities are basically split up into undergraduate and postgraduate, so most people dont go get a graduate degree unless they want to stay in academia. Here in Europe its more common to go for a Masters Degree if ur at a research university, and the only people I know that only get a bachelors go to "high schools"/vocational universities/universities of applied sciences (these are usually 4 years like the US system anyway)

I'm hoping to become an entrepreneur in the future, I'm stuck between doing a degree in Financial Mathematics or Business Management with Economics. It's not in a top 20 University but I just wanted to know which one you think would be best?
It depends Harris.. Best that you plan it out first

What jobs do you think are the best or most obvious for someone with a mathematics and computer science degree??
High Paying Technology Careers
ua-cam.com/video/v-5JiRARd_E/v-deo.html
Economics- the study of using limited resources for unlimited wants. Is very realistic and the closest to what is happening in the real world. You learn the pros and cons of unions, scarcity, when should a company keep selling a product or stop selling say product. The demand vs supply. Is a fascinating subject that I recommend anyone to take. Tax Accounting is 90% reading, 10% math and that is due to very law heavy and knowing if is tax deferred or not. I do not see any AI replacing tax accountants. For everything from one year to the next. For example in 2019 it was 0.54 for mileage regarding if you were using your vehicle as a business or you were a lyft driver. 2020 it went up to0.60 for mileage and now lyft drivers could also include the mileage for driving the vehicle without passengers with the app on.

Education is a lot better when you take graduate-level courses. Cognitive science, assessments, educational management, all the fun stuff. Sadly these courses usually do not form part of your undergrad degree or certificate.
Thanks for your input Andrew
It is true that those who get a bachelor's degree in statistics are not likely to become statisticians, BUT DON'T LET THAT FOOL YOU! When you hear "statistics", think "probability" and "predicting the future". Who doesn't want to do that?? Predicting the future shows up in EEEVVERRRYYTHHIIING. Miners want to ensure adequate redundancy built into their safety precautions, for example. The same holds true in NASA. Businesses want to predict what their investments will do. Manufacturers want to ensure that they are sampling sufficient numbers of products coming off the belt to test for defects. Pharmaceutical companies use combinatorics to determine all the possible chemical combinations. Statistics just shows up in everything. That's why it's so valuable and applicable. This holds especially true in business applications.
Thanks for sharing your insight Mark. I respect that
@@ShaneHummus by the way, when you said the actuary exams are difficult, that is an understatement. There are many actuarial science majors who are spoon fed actuary exam materials who then go on to non-actuarial careers because they can't pass the actuary exams. The pass rate is around 40-45%, which is lower than the Barr Exam, and there are several actuary exams to pass. However, if you can pass them then the payoff is job security for life because of the barrier(s) to entry.
Makes a video about the value kf different Math degrees but doesn't make the distinctions between different types of math
Chill.. More videos to come
@@ShaneHummus hehe, good 😄
pure mathematics is not unless. Many pure mathematicians work as 'functional' programmers using languages like scala and haskell. Scala is the highest paid programming language of 2020, with an average of 143k per year.
Thanks for sharing that Tonio
statistics and data science are really synonymous. Data science or Analytics are just new age buzz words for applying statistics to specific industry problems (which is not a new concept).
So with that fact, data science and statistics should have the same ranking, however we will likely need more employment data on data science degrees to see how employers are perceiving it.
Thanks for watching
Physics with maths is best . I have done it. But i found my skills in mathematics more than physics.. I want to take maths with business or data science. Thanks buddy

why should graduate degrees be avoided?

Dude doesn’t know what he’s talking about lol
Shane Hummus - The Success GPS Didn’t you get a Graduate degree? And how do you feel about having to get a PharmD while there are still people working in Pharmacy with a bachelor degree in pharmacy? Unfortunately there are several jobs that now require Graduate degrees when a bachelors was previously the norm, such as “Doctor” of physical therapy, what a joke.
My guess is that the real issue is if an undergraduate degree requires you to get a graduate degree to find a job, thus lowering flexibility. If you get a CS or Physics degree, for example, getting a higher degree can be helpful depending on what career path you want to pursue, but if after 4 years of school you want to stop, then you aren't trapped, as those degrees can still land you jobs just fine.
If you want to do them, do them. This guy is probably coming from the perspective that grad jobs don't really pay that much more than what a grad or an honours will get you.
Sad how the average salary for engineers in us is like 100k meanwhile in uk they are heavily underpaid 😞
Sad
I have a math degree with a teaching cert for math and CS. If I knew about CS when I was younger, I would be banking right now. If it wasn't for the students, would have left field long ago, but yeah the US sucks for being a teacher. Also student teaching is the worst thing ever, it's an internship you have to pay for.
Thanks for sharing. Good luck!
Can you make a tier list on master degrees
Maybe in the future. Stay tuned for that
Imo Math degree is either an A or S rank. The outcome for these majors in the beginning are stacked higher than some of the math majors that I've seen such as Actuarial math. I know a lot of people with actuarial degree who can't find a single internship with that degree so they end up going other route like any other math majors. The amount of time and money they wasted on materials and exams was not worth it if you can't even land an internship after 2 exams.
Also stats should be S rank without a shadow of a doubt. That major is red fucking hot in the market. It is partly the reason why Math and stats coexist together in S rank. I will never believe someone has a math degree if they hadn't had intermediate understanding of statistics when they graduate. Ask any Math major graduates and they'll tell you the fun starts when statistics are involved.
Thanks for sharing! I actually have a video coming up talking about how stats and math are underrated. Stay tuned, cheers!
