Quick tip, if you live near a Harbor Freight store, they carry it. Side note this stuff works wonders. Just note that bluing on guns is a form of rust and it will take it all of which is fine if you plan on re-bluing.
I have used this product and am very happy with it I cleaned rust off milling cutters ,some of the shanks were not completely submerged and it ate
A groove in it were the air and the evapo rust met so it is important to completely submerge parts.thanks for the video mike
Another great and informative video , Thanks Big Sam.
Interesting and informative, thanks Big Sam!
Hello Sam. You should try boiling for approximately 45 minutes and then use a carding wheel and 0000 steel wool. Works great and dose not damage original finish. For really tough jobs it can be repeated till rust is gone.
I tried this on a S&W .38 that had rust flecking in several areas. I bought this as a car gun so it didn't have to look aesthetically pleasing necessarily. It took the rust & the blueing off. Left a dull gray patina.
I have ordered EVAPO to try on my two .38 revolvers with out fully taking apart, I've been told Evapo will remove the bluing all way to bare steel with using a lil agitating with a soft bristle brush. Then will try some of Vans cold bluing. Ill let you know how goes. Do you have any input as what steps I may need ?
Good job buddy!
Hey Sam!
I recently used this product on a rifle I refinished that was damaged in a flood and was pitted. I submerged it all in this and it took off all the rust off beautifully (including the bluing). I was actually surprised it didn’t take the bluing off the mosin more! I’m wondering if the mosin had more refurbished “paint” on it than bluing maybe? What do you think?
Good question! Sounds like the subject of a future video 🤔
Useing this stuff right now as we speak. Have a 1930s daisy In a bath of it. Hope it works!!
Put this stuff in a heated ultrasonic cleaner from harbor freight and itll clean ANYTHING i swear. Had a desert eagle that i thought was rusted to shit and it got it pretty decent, and then i cerakoted it and it looks better than new almost
Working with my own desert eagle XII that's gone through a house fire then sat for 2 years.
Apple vinegar works quite well also. Less expensive too.
Hi Sam ..... Just a thought, could you clean the barrel with this product, could being interesting.
Too bad about the Mosin. The sling swivel mounted to the magazine body indicates it was a very early year rifle if I'm not mistaken. They later went to sling slots in the stock using the so called 'dog collar' slings.
Wait we are not supposed to use Mosin magazines as cookware?
I tried this on my Remington 870, soaked it for 10 min and it took the parkerized finish off….sucks but lesson learned.
Hey large sam, why do some mosins have the year stamp with an 'r' following? ex 1942r
Howdy Trent! It is actually the Cyrillic character 'Г', which this the Cyrillic equivalent of 'G'. It is short for 'Goda', which is Russian for year. In Russian it is spelled 'Года'. Merry Christmas!
I'm pretty sure that was a Russian cheese slicer with a finger ring grip you were portraying.
It's a Mosin Nagant - you shoot an animal with it, cook the animal on the bayonet and move on - yes, it's also cookware.
Since bluing is a form of rust, does this product remove the bluing as well, leaving only dark grey metal? Hard to tell from the video.
I'm inclined to think it does, at least at some level, we will do more testing in the future to more comprehensively answer this question!
Yes. I can tell you from experience. I was told it would only remove the rust and not effect bluing, but after being submerged for only few short hours, they were both gone. A $300 mistake.
