  • Part 1 of the SKS project involves removing the duraCoat and the Bluing underneath it. Here we used paint stripper for the duracoat and Birchwood Casey Blue and Rust removal.
    Stick around for the rest of the project.

    Glad your doing this video, going to do the same in the future. Find another wooden stock to replace that one. Wood looks so much better that cheap plastic. You'll never be happy with plastic. Make it look new again. Thumbs up

    Wood stock that rifle! Years ago I tried the whole poly-stock nonsense learned fast it looks good in wood!

    • @ZRUSOutdoorsChannel
      @ZRUSOutdoorsChannel  3 роки тому +1

      problem is that I find the factory wood to be very uncomfortable. Tapco stopped making their Timbersmith wood stocks and Boyds is a bit pricey. so for now its gonna have to be a polymer stock.

    For future reference; toilet cleaner works great for bluing removal. Apply with a rubber or sponge brush and, after a couple of minutes, wipe off and rinse.

      @@ZRUSOutdoorsChannel please don't, toilet cleaners have vastly different ingredients for different brands. Use 50/50 hydrochloric acid and distilled water for blueing removal but make sure you rinse and fully remove all acid after you're done or it will rust to shit in no time .

    Don't cut the lugs off, you can get another action online an use that. Maybe one day you mite want to turn it back in to its original state with the wood stock, its just to easy to get another receiver with a barrel an bubba that. Their only going up in value if left all original, right now in original configuration they sell for 500, an those are beat up Vietnam era rifles, in its stock self even reblued, its still worth a chunk of change, DON'T BUBBA IT.

      @@williammccaslin8527 yeah I get the reason that some believe a C&R firearm shouldn’t be modified. For me, I like the design and function of the SKS, but in a slightly more comfortable form. All of my firearms do work, I don’t own anything that is only meant to be admired, shot a couple rounds then put away. But I get why others would.

    No offense, but cold blues really don't work for a complete finish as it is just a thin layer of copper ferric acid that has poor rust resistance and can actually promote rust on the steel. A better, but more time consuming process is real slow rust bluing as it is the most durable bluing finish that has superior results.

    • @ZRUSOutdoorsChannel
      @ZRUSOutdoorsChannel  2 роки тому

      I can tell that this bluing is shallow, but as of yet, i have no issues with it of the 3-4 times that i have had it out shooting. But i will report back if need be.
