Hard to believe this song is over 200 years old. Even when WB used it, the song was well over 100.

Believe me, if all those endearing young charms,
Which I gaze on so fondly today,
Were to change by tomorrow and fleet in my arms,
    Like fairy gifts fading away,
Thou wouldst still be adored, as this moment thou art,
    Let thy loveliness fade as it will;
And around the dear ruin each wish of my heart
    Would entwine itself verdantly still.
It is not while beauty and youth are thine own,
And thy cheeks unprofaned by a tear,
That the fervor and faith of a soul can be known,
To which time will but make thee more dear.
No, the heart that has truly loved never forgets,
But as truly loves on to the close
As the sunflower turns on her God when he sets
The same look which she turned when he rose

When I was a child, I heard the tune for the first time in those Loony Tunes videos, and oh how I cried with laughter!
When I grew up, I heard the tune again in its raw unaltered beauty, and learned it's true meaning; and I cried again, for a completely different reason.

Got here from Looney Tunes also. Amazing how this likely forgotten tune is now immortalized thanks to the clever scripting and scoring from Warner Brothers. BTW: The first version of this was in a 1944 SNAFU cartoon.
Now let's enjoy some opera: "Kill da wabbit, kill da wabbit…."

Je viens de corée du sud.
J'avais l'habitude de chanter cette jolie chanson depuis quand j'avais dix ou onze ans.
Je ne savais même pas que c'était une chanson irlandaise.
Cette chanson est toujours dans mon cœur et le sera.
    And for ur infos.
    Forget about "KABOOM"
    I've already removed detonator.

Fair Harvard! we join in thy Jubilee throng,
And with blessings surrender thee o’er
By these Festival-rites, from the Age that is past,
To the Age that is waiting before.
O Relic and Type of our ancestors’ worth,
That hast long kept their memory warm,
First flow’r of their wilderness! Star of their night!
Calm rising thro’ change and thro’ storm.
Farewell! be thy destinies onward and bright!
To thy children the lesson still give,
With freedom to think, and with patience to bear,
And for Right ever bravely to live.
Let not moss-covered Error moor thee at its side,
As the world on Truth’s current glides by,
Be the herald of Light, and the bearer of Love,
Till the stars in the firmament die.

I wonder why this was the song chosen for the Looney Tunes bit.

    • @4Stanzas
      @4Stanzas  6 років тому +3

Hard to say. Maybe because the song was popular, yet old enough that it wasn't copyrighted? There's also a connotation of innocence within the title, which lends itself to the setup - offsetting the evil intent within the gag.

And presumably the fact that anybody with even the slightest ability to play the piano, would know to hit that e flat, since it's one of the easiest notes to guess! XD
