I cant speak for anyone else, but I have ocd and one of the key aspects is that I am NEVER satisfied if i give in with the compulsions. The key is to live with the discomfort. Im very aware of what i do, either after the fact, or even during it. I suspect my mother has ocpd, she is very rigid in what she does and cant seem to recognise that she is inconsistent. I have begged her to see a specialist but she refuses since she believes there is nothing wrong with her. I can kind of see that without any external factors, she probably is satisfied with her life, everything has its place, etc, but there are always going to be outside influences which will mess stuff up for her. Me, on the other hand, im never satisfied, unless i learn to live with the discomfort of resisting. The moment i give in, it opens up a whole world of stuff.

I’m not a specialist in psychology, but I have an interest in it. Just from textbooks, I couldn’t wrap my head around the difference between OCD and OCPD. I’m currently living with a friend and I highly suspects she has OCPD. Everything (and I mean *everything*) has to be done just how she wants it to be done (even if this means turning a 1 minute chore into a 5 minute chore). She sees nothing wrong with her behaviors and thinks her way is the best way to do things. She’s elderly and recently disabled which means she needs help to continue to live in her home.
She gets upset, anxious, and irritable if things aren’t done the way she likes and she is constantly ordering me around and constantly nagging me, as everything she wants done must be done *now.*
Sadly her OCPD has driven most of her friends and all of her family away, and soon I will be moving out in order to save my own sanity.
She has no insight into why they can’t stand her and don’t come to help. It’s really sad because underneath it all she is a nice lady. I can tell her OCPD and the consequences it has on her relationships causes her to be anxious, depressed, and very lonely. But she doesn’t think she is the problem and won’t get help.

Interestingly, I have to make my bed immediately BEFORE going to sleep. It doesn't bother me if it's not made upon waking up, but I get heightened anxiety if each sheet/blanket isn't evenly distributed in every way imaginable when getting into bed. I have OCPD, severe neuroticism and anxiety, chronic insomnia, and am an addict-all stemming from genetic predispositions and environmental factors related to my narcissistic, alcoholic mother, chronic and pervasive emotional and psychological abuse, emotional neglect, and extended periods of isolation in adolescence.

Interesting, I haven't made my bed in years. Have OCD. but am messy. I think every individual is unique and does not need to try to find labels and boxes so that we can be medicated by a billion dollar industry. In many regions of the world, OCD does not exist and they would say you don't need drugs. They are correct in most cases.. but think about it. How many African nations have a high use of antidepressants in general, let alone OCD? How many of the Eskimos? How many people in simple farming communities? Is it a disorder of primarily middle class Caucasian in the Western world? Bing bing bing bing. Yes!
